Chapter One

Burning house

In a rundown town where every other window was boarded up an old owl flew through the town heading towards the edge where a small house stood untouched by the destruction around it but still looking run down and forgotten. The owl flew to the window and pecked at it, a man walked forward with greasy black hair and a hooked nose he opened the window and the owl flew in dropped a letter on the table and left. The man's name was Severus Snape he walked to the table picked up the letter and, on the back, it had his name and address with a stamp that read G.W.B with Gringotts wizarding bank below it in small. Snape looked at the letter puzzled wondering what it could be it was very rear he received any mail from the bank, he opened the letter and started to see it had three parchments included inside the first reading.

Dear Severus Snape

Please find enclosed part of the will of James Potter and Lilly Potter nee Evans, this proceeding of the will was held as requested by the family waiting for two months before their child's eleventh birthday unfortunately the letter was delayed as it was misplaced, we send you are sincerest of apologies for this delay and are happy to inform you that the goblin responsible has been dealt with. Please note the will is in form as a letter to you while irregular it still holds as a legal will and you will not have any troubles with ourselves or the ministry.

Gringotts will department

Snape read the letter with a puzzled expression before finally turning to the next parchment.

Dear Severus

It's both me Lily and James written this letter to you or this will I guess would be the official name we hope it never comes to this but preparations had to be made, we know you are probably wondering why we would include you after all it's been years since we spoke and even longer should you ever find yourself reading this. We had a very long discussion over this as usual I won against James, Severus if anything is to happen to us and Sirius Black and Frank and Alice Longbottom are unable to fulfil their godparent role as taking in Harry, we leave you to raise the boy Albus asked us that we wait till he is eleven until we send this although we never told him who we were entrusting Harry to as we knew he would oppose. Although as you can see, we sent the letter earlier than he requested do to the fact it would only leave Harry with a month to get ready for Hogwarts, I know you probably don't like the idea and you probably will say you haven't the space so we are gunna give you permission to raise him in Potter Manor should the need for you to take him in ever happen Severus I ask you as an old friend to please take him in. END OF WILL

Snape felt a tear run down his cheek as he read the second parchment, he quickly wiped the tear and turned to the next parchment his face looked slightly worried when he read the next parchment "the dark arts that is unexpected" Snape said in no more than a whisper. He walked through his small dark house to his fireplace where he grabbed a hand full of powder and chucked it in saying "Headmasters' office Hogwarts." He stuck his face in to the green flames and was greeted by an old wizard

"Severus this is unexpected to what do I owe the pleasure of this floo call." the old wizard said.

"Dumbledore I just got an owl from Gringotts revealing a withheld part of Lily's and James will they entrusted me with the boy I've come to you asking his address as I know you are one of the few people who know his location." Snape replied.

"I see this is very unexpected but I must insist the boy stays wear he is he is well protected there and I fair moving home would but him in grave danger plus Severus It is my understanding that you live in a single bedroom house is it not?" Dumbledore asked

"Sir the living arrangement has already been sorted I'm allowed to use Potter Manor, so you need not worry I must do it she's asked me to I can't say no to her not after everything." Snape answered.

"A yes I remember Severus but how do you think the boy will feel should he find out about your past?" Dumbledore responded with yet another question.

"I admit I doubt he would be pleased with my actions but I will tell him at least let me see the boy see that he is fine there then I will make a decision after all I didn't have to come to you but I chose to out of respect Albus." Snape said

"Very well I will let you go there it's my understanding that they have just arrived home from an eventful day at the zoo I suspect he might be too tired to talk but you can try oh and please try not to upset the muggles I understand you don't get along with Lily's sister, there address is number four privet drive little Whinging surrey" Dumbledore Said.

"Thank you I hope you have a good evening, Dumbledore." Snape said before taking his head out of the fireplace.

Snape vanished from where he was with a pop and appeared down an alley way in little Whinging, he walked down the street toward private drive wearing black robes when he got to privet drive, he could smell I fire going and muggles looking at a house in panic he looked at that house and quickly realized that that house was number four.

A few hours earlier at number four privet drive the Dursleys pulled up to their drive a large man stepped out his face red in anger his name is Vernon Dursley they handed of a boy who was with them to his parents and walked in the house when they got in Vernon shouted so loud their whole street could probably hear it "WHAT DID I SAY WOULD HAPPEN IF ANY FUNNY BUISNESS HAPPENED AT THAT ZOO BOY!" he roared out.

The boy he was addressing fell to the floor in terror and huddled into a ball he at unruly black hair with green eyes and a scar hidden by his bangs his name is Harry Potter.

"I swear uncle I didn't do anything Dudley leaned on the glass and it vanished it was just like magic." Harry said in a very quiet trembling voice'

"THERES NO SUCH THING AS MAGIC!" the great big man bellowed.

Vernon went to grab the boy by his hair when all of a sudden, the length shorted so there was not enough length to grab.

"You think your so clever don't you, you freak shortening your hair now you've done it." Vernon said in a terrifying whisper at the Harrys face.

He grabbed Harry's arm and threw him into the door of the cupboard under the stairs harry stood up looked at his uncle as his hair went its normal length but his eyes and the color of his hear turned into orange the same as s roaring fire then suddenly an explosion of flames burst out of Harrys throwing Vernon back while getting hit by the flames. The flames moved as if they were alive circling the boy as if protecting him Vernon stood again and marched forward only to be thrown back again by the flames. Petunia his wife and Dudley their son screamed in horror as they watched.

Snape applied a notice me not charm and a muggle rappeler charm to himself then headed for the door for number four. When he got to the door, he tried the handle to find it was already unlocked, he was stunned by what he saw when he opened the door. It looked as if the young boy had created by accident a lesser version of a dark spell called Fiendfyre he looked at the boy with the wild flames circling him and was stunned to see his eyes and most noticeably his hair was the same color as the fire around him. Snape entered the house closed the door and made quick work to stun harry as he did so the spell disappeared leaving only the burned walls and furniture as evidence. He watched as the boy's hair changed into black, he left the boy their a looked around for any possible casualties he ended the living room and saw a half-burnt man laying Infront of a women and child who were both sobbing.

A quick glance revealed the man to be alive for now Snape used a quick healing charm on the man to at least make sure the man lived although he would still need medical care as by no means did Snape know any advanced medical spells after all that was not his field of expertise. He looked at the women and child who both seemed fine physically anyway.

"you" The women said "what are you doing in my house, look what that freak has done we said we would take him in and how does he thank us he tries to burn down are home get out and take that that freak with you"

"Hello Petunia it's been a while how are we on this fine evening" Snape responded with a smirk.

"I see you haven't changed still acting all closed off and emotionless all you freaks act the same" she spat

"Now, now no need to be hostile I will take him with me don't you worry and a suspect damage control will be here soon. Hope you don't mind us freaks coming in to fix your house with our magic, also I just need to collect some information on what happened here since your husband is currently incapacitated, I will have to take it from you view point don't worry this won't hurt a bit." Snape responded "Legilimens"

Soon Snape found himself disgusted at the memories of harry in Petunia the poor boy was treated as a slave and beaten by his cousin regularly and his uncle if he even used accidental magic, he was left with many questions mainly what was Albus thinking leaving the boy here and not doing anything about how he was treated surly he must have known what was going on. Snape picked up Harry pointed his wand at Petunia but thought better of it he left a note explaining what had happened for however turned up from the ministry and made sure to point out about how the child was treated he knew no one would care he used a spell on her especially when they find out what they did to the boy who lived, them he left the house with a pop.

When Snape arrived with the stunned harry at his home he levitated the boy onto the couch, made the stunned Harry consume two potions then lifted the spell, when the spell was lifted Harry opened his eyes for a split second then fell asleep. Snape chucked some powder once again into his fireplace calling for the headmaster again.

"Sir could you please come over, there is a matter I wish to speak about I think it would be best to do it in person" Snape said.

"Very well Severus from what I've been told I do think it is best as well" Dumbledore responded.

The floo call closed and then Dumbledore appeared from the green flames in the fire. He looked around and his eyes hovered over harry where he was laying asleep.

"I see that you took the boy probably best that you did that, so the situation could easily be rectified." Dumbledore said with his twinkling eyes on the boy. "However, I think it would be best if we return him to his home tomorrow his family must be worried about him."

"Sir with all due respect you can't be serious, if I hadn't arrived when I did the boy would have no doubt burned down the whole house with himself and his guardians inside. I think it would be ill advised to return him." Snape replied to the old wizard trying to work out what the man was thinking.

"My dear friend it was just a bit of accidental magic from my understanding these things tend to happen." Dumbledore said finally turning to look at Snape.

"If I may, he manifested Fiendfyre through accidental magic sure it wasn't powerful but still deadly, we both know that such a spell requires a certain mind frame to work, so I took the liberty at discovering what had happened and I was most disgusted of what I saw. They have never been a family to him they treated the boy as nothing more than a house elf, besides I've already left a note there I highly doubt the ministry will allow for him to remain there even if I was to agree with you." Snape responded almost smiling that he knew Dumbledore would not be able to keep Harry there any longer.

"Severus I must say that was a very unwise decision I would have hoped you would have discussed It with me first. If what you say is true then I guess it would be best for you to keep the boy as we both know if you don't take him Malfoy would take him in. I must ask what do you plan on doing when August arrives as you will be needed at the school for preparations." Dumbledore said without the twinkle that was usually in his eyes.

Snape looked at the man as he thought about his response for everything the man said and then it came to him. "Regarding my decision to leave the note I acted in the moment I was more concerned with the child after what I saw in her memories. Also, regarding when August arrives perhaps you could help me find someone, I'm sure you already have a family in mind."

"Yes, I believe I know just the family to look after him I will have to discuss it with them first although I'm sure Molly and Arthur would happily accept, I must leave now Severus there is much I need to do and address please go to the ministry tomorrow to sort out the paper work also remember to get the key from Gringotts for Potter Manor goodbye." Said Dumbledore as he left the room shortly after Snape heard the front door close, he heard a pop.

"As I suspected, he's chosen the Weasleys no doubt to try suade him into becoming a Gryffindor, but I suppose that is to be expected after all he probably fairs his potential as a Slytherin." Snape said as he was watching over Harry.

Snape never left the room in anticipation for Harry to awaken he didn't wont they boy to wake up in an unfamiliar house without anyone to explain. Snape sawn Harry started to stir and walked closing sitting by the chair next to him when the boy opened his eyes, he immediately went in to what snape couldn't only describe as a fit, he was shacking and sweating uncontrollably and was gasping for air then suddenly a wave was released from harry sending snape and much of the items and furniture flying away from harry. Snape has to act quickly and stunned Harry he knew something was wrong he gave the boy a calming drought even with the effects starting to wear off there was no way he would still be that worked up to release uncontrolled magic, Snape knew he had to take harry and apparate with him to the one place that could get him the help he needs St Mungo's.

When Snape arrived with harry, he quickly went to the desk and filled them in on what happened the man behind the desk was shocked by and immediately sent for help for Harry. Harry was taken from Snape and levitated into a private room Snape was told to wait in the waiting room and the med-witch would inform him of what was wrong he was told this shouldn't take long. Snape decided he best alert Dumbledore to this news maybe the headmaster would have some insight on this.

"Expecto Patronum" Snape casted without fear of who heard as it wasn't exactly a subtle spell a doe made from white light appeared before Snape. "Lilly, go inform Dumbledore that I'm at St Mungo's with Harry and I request he comes as quickly as he can." Snape ordered the doe with panic in his voice the doe nodded and disappeared through a wall.

Snape waited for ten minutes before Dumbledore finally arrived at the wizard's hospital. "What happened Severus?" Dumbledore asked the twinkle in his eyes wasn't there.

"I don't know as far as I'm aware they are still trying to figure that out." Snape replied not being able to look the man in the eyes he then proceeded to explain what happened when Harry woke up.

"I see this is very concerning news you did well to bring him here I'm afraid I do not know what would have caused this I only hope there is something we can do." Dumbledore said as he sat next to Snape.

The two men waited in silence they were both to wrapped up in their own thoughts to realize how much time had passed it had been around two hours since Severus had first arrived at the hospital when the door to Harry's room finally opened and a med-wizard stepped out walking over to them.

"Professor Dumbledore I'm most surprised to see you." The man said "I'm afraid the news isn't good the boy is stable for now but when he wakes up, we fair the same will happen again, we ran many tests on him before I was called in it's his brain. It appears that his brain has taken a lot of strain from his magical core the power he has released was too much for him and seeped into his head this is the first I've ever seen or even heard of something like this we not sure what is causing his shock but our best guess is that his magic is playing with his mind we can't be sure as no known spell can read the mind to that level." the med-wizard explained to Albus and Severus.

Before Albus could say anything, Severus spoke up "Is there anything we can do to help him heal"

"Well, there are a few things we can try but I need more information before we try anything, so please tell me what happened to get him in this state?" Asked The med-wizard.

Snape went on in detail to explain how he picked up Harry and all the information he got from the Dursleys "So as you can see it was very high in both terms of magic and emotion." Snape added at the end of his explanation.

"Hmmm, yes that would defiantly cause his mind to weaken enough for his magic to effect it. It must be playing the boys worst memories over and over in his head" he said scratching his head

"Is there anything we can do." Albus said finally able to get in a word.

"I think I know of the solution it won't be cheap although with his name alone I guess that won't be an issue, I will be honest we don't know how long it will take as the hardest part will be getting him in a stable state without the calming droughts to truly begin healing him it could take weeks months or even years we don't know but I promise that it will never be revealed of his condition to anyone as you might have heard we all take a very strong oath to protect our patients if you go to the desk they will have the weekly charge for the first phase of his treatment once it's received we will begin immediately I must be off I have a hospital to run." He then turned and walked away down the corridor.

"Severus I must ask you to give me an oath that you will not seek revenge on the Dursleys on Harry's behalf." Albus said giving Snape a stern look letting him know that he didn't really have a choice in it, Snape only nodded in agreement, they then made an unbreakable vow.

"Now that's taken care of I will take care of Harrys bills as I feel this is my fault that this has happened, I hope one day the boy is able to forgive me for this, but I must ask Severus what is your plan now?" He asked the twinkle finally returning to his eyes.

"I'm going to step down as potions master and intern head of house to be here for him I will return when he is healed should my position be available to me again" Snape said still not meeting Dumbledore's eyes.

"Very well Severus I understand and you will have a place when Harry heals, I will just get a temporary replacement for this year and any future years if needed, Now I'm afraid I must leave you I hope you will keep me informed." Dumbledore said as he left to go over to the desk to pay Harry's bills and then he left leaving a speechless Snape.

Harry was shortly moved to a secure heavily warded section of the hospital where his magic would not affect those around him when he inevitably has those bursts through his healing process. Harry's treatment was seeming to have no effect and it was looking bleak seven months had passed and still no effect was taken place. Snape was hiding himself in research trying to find any possible thing that might help but he couldn't find anything. In March the med-witches and wizards finally decided to try other methods which they said they could not disclose Severus could still only wait for anything then finally one year and two months later the first real step of progress was made Harry was finally leaving stage one of his healing regimes.
