"Hey, do you want to go out for drinks tonight, there's this new rooftop bar called Dukes that just opened up" Kayleigh, Violet's best friend asked as they walked out of the hospital. Violet shifted her bag onto her shoulder as it was slipping off and she sighed softly.
"I would but I have an early shift tomorrow, plus with everything going on I don't think my dad wants me out at the minute, too many people he says" Violet couldn't help roll her eyes as she imitated her dad's voice and Kayleigh giggled.
"Yeah, your probably right, my mom called me the other day and was like asking me loads of questions like does the hospital have security and cameras and all this shit and I'm like, of course mom" Violet laughed at her friend, and they stood just outside the entrance of the hospital. Violet caught sight of the black SUV waiting for her and she turned to Kayleigh, patting her on the shoulder.
"Well, my ride is here".
"Ohhh yeah Mr Sexy driver is here to take you home" she wiggled her brows and Violet scoffed, narrowing her eyes.
"He's like forty years old" she murmured, and Kayleigh shrugged her shoulders.
"So, he's fit… do me a favour and give him my number if you're not interested in him" she joked and Violet stuck her tongue out, retching and the two of them burst into laughter.
"Yeah sure… I'll see you tomorrow" Violet smiled and stepped down the steps of the hospital, making her way to the car. As she arrived there, her bodyguard, Bruno, opened the door, giving her a nod and a polite smile as she swung herself inside, perching on the leather seats. The car was cool with air conditioning and Michael was up front, her driver.
Her father had been the president of the United States for nearly two years now and still Violet wasn't sure if she'd get used to the constant amount of people around her. Especially now with everything going on. Michael had been her driver and bodyguard ever since her father had become elected and to this day, they remained very good friends. She felt extremely comfortable around him, and she often enjoyed her car journeys with him. It was only recently that Bruno had joined them. It wasn't unusual for her to have two people but because she and Michael had become so comfortable with each other, there was no need for anyone else.
But things at the minute were difficult. There were rumours that Hydra were rising again, planning to take over the country and run it the way that wanted to before it was defeated. There were rumours that S.H.I.E.L.D had been compromised, Hydra agents deep within the cracks and planning something big. No one could be trusted. Which was why the security had been multiplied, issuing more staff to protect Violet and her family.
John Fitzgerald had never been more stressed in his life. Being the president was no easy job and with the rumours of Hydra flooding about, it only added to his never-ending list. And without S.H.I.E.L.D to help him, he wasn't left with many options. There was a fine line between stopping all of Hydra's men and accusing every single S.H.I.E.L.D agent of being one. He needed a careful plan to find out who exactly was behind all this without having to interrogate every single person and arresting innocent people who weren't involved.
Violet scrolled on her phone as Michael drove her home, her thumb swiping through Instagram stories and posts unlike her thumb stopped midway at one. Her eyes widened at the post, her mouth dropping open unconsciously.
"Oh my god" she whispered to herself which caught the attention of her bodyguards.
"Everything okay Miss" Bruno asked, looking over his shoulder into the backseat where she was sat. Violet stuttered for a second before she could get her words out clearly.
"Nick Fury's dead, he was shot last night" she was speechless. Nick fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D and creator of the Avengers themselves was dead. He was a powerful and smart man being a spy himself. which meant it was true what they were saying about Hydra. It could only be them. Why would anyone else want him dead. He was the reason why this country was safe from threats such as Hydra and keeping people out of danger. The post was vague and wasn't giving much information or detail, but it was clear and to the point. Nick Fury was dead.
"I thought they weren't going to release the news yet?" Michael said with a serious tone.
"Some journalists much have leaked it" Bruno replied.
"When did you find out?" Violet asked.
"This morning, there was an attack. Captain America was with him when it happened. He was taken to hospital, and they tried to keep him alive, but he didn't make it" Michael explained, and Violet sighed, shaking her head.
"It's awful, all of this. I can't imagine what dad's thinking". Violet couldn't help but feel sorry for her dad and the stress this was bringing down on him. She wished she could help somehow but to be honest, she didn't know a thing about S.H.I.E.L.D, only that it protected the people of this country and that the Avengers were a part of that and even if she did get involved, her dad wouldn't allow it. He couldn't allow anything to happen to her.
"Don't worry Miss, he'll be fine" Bruno said. He wasn't giving much away, probably because he was ordered to. It was important that everything said was kept within the walls of the White house and nothing was to be leaked. They couldn't have Hydra catching on to them and having the advantage.
Violet arrived home shortly. The car journey had turned silent with her staring out the window, her thoughts on the potential threat that was coming to them. She tried not to get too worried about it all, but it did scare her. To think that this organisation could potentially take control of this country and so many innocent people could be killed, including her father scared her to death and she was praying that they would be stopped soon.
Bruno escorted her inside, nodding to the other guards around the white house and she thanked him politely as she entered inside. She didn't feel as comfortable with Bruno as she did with Michael, but he was still friendly enough. Her days of managing to get a few moments of peace and quiet on her own were defiantly gone now that Bruno was around. Although he shouldn't allow it, Michael often let Violet have a few minutes to herself whether it was at the store or taking a walk by herself. He was still around and easily accessible if anything happened, but he knew how jarring it could be to have someone over your shoulder nearly twenty-four seven.
The white house was in full panic mode. Secretaries and government officials and heads of departments scurried around, speed walking down hallways and carrying documents galore. Violet managed to squeeze her way past and she reached the living room, a space designed for her family and her family alone so they could spend time away from the suits and meetings that plagued this house.
"Hey" Violet called as she walked inside, seeing her mother and brother sat on the couch. Her brother had his eyes stuck on the TV, watching the recent football game while her mother was pacing, fingers pressing to her mouth, and she relaxed as Violet walked in.
"Hello darling" she wrapped her arms around her, hugging her softly and Violet could tell she was stressed.
"Everything okay, I just heard about it" she said, and Caroline sighed, slumping down on the couch.
"Yes, your father is running around like mad though".
"How did you hear?" Theo asked, not bothering to turn and look at his sister. Violet sunk into the comfy couch, sinking deep into the leather and she hugged her legs underneath herself.
"There was a post on Instagram, apparently someone leaked the news" she said, and Caroline sighed heavier this time.
"That's all we need".
"Don't stress mom, it will be fine" Violet said to her, although she was saying it to herself as well.
"I know, I know. He's having a meeting with the Avengers tomorrow. I just hope this all ends soon and then your father can sit down and stop stressing me out. You know he didn't sleep at all last night". Violet smiled softly at her mom. She had always been a worrier and she found it sweet how she worried about her dad a lot. She was a caring wife and mom, and Violet wouldn't trade her for the world.
"The Avengers, wow. It must be serious now then" if the Avengers were being called in, it meant that this threat was deadly and dangerous and required the unique skill of them.
The house was packed with guards around every corner and hallway. Violet smiled as she passed every one of them, some replying with the same face and others keeping a straight one. She dragged herself to her bedroom, slinging her bag on the chair and falling onto of her bed, her body bouncing in the mattress. It had been a long day and she couldn't wait to snuggle up in the covers. No doubt her dad would be working all night as well.
She whipped off her clothes and threw them in the corner of her bedroom, searching for a pair of comfy shorts and a t-shirt. There was a light breeze coming from her bedroom window, blowing the curtains softly. She wished she could have gone out for the drank with Kayleigh, just to get away from all this noise and movement in the house but I'm sure her father would forbid it. Especially after Nick Fury's death. Her mom was telling her that her dad was certain they were next or at least going to be a target for Hydra which would mean security was going to be even tighter… if it could get any tighter.
Violet padded across the other side of her bedroom, getting ready to snuggle in bed when she caught something in the corner of her eye. She stopped abruptly and looked out the window, her eyes narrowing. The curtain blew across the window, blocking her vision and she stepped a little closer, slowly bringing her hand up to clear it away.
'Huh' she thought to herself.
She could have sworn she saw something. A man standing on the lawn. It could have easily been one of the guards but something in the dark glinted and the body and structure didn't look like any of the guards. She stared back out the window, but the lawn was clear.
'It's nothing' she said to herself and pulled the window shut; the breeze being cut off immediately. She slipped inside her bed, the warm cosy covers wrapping around her like a caterpillar in a cocoon and soon enough, she was drifting to sleep.
