10. Dragon's Blood Jasper
Jack rolled his eyes at the massive bag of gems sat on his kitchen table. He watched his Mother sift through the bag and started to sort them into their separate piles.
"Why are you doing this again?"
"I like it. It's a good hobby, I like the pretty colours! I don't say anything about your tinkering in the basement…" The woman coily muttered but she knew her son heard her.
Jack retaliated as expected.
"It's not tinkering, Mom! I'm building machines to take over the world!" Serena laughed at her son.
"When will you get it when I'm joking, Jack dear." The woman chuckled. "I hope you do take over, the world needs a smart young man like you to sort the world out."
Jack huffed, he hated it when his Mother made fun of him, but she always respected him and his decisions.
"Besides, I have a new stone to my collection that I have no use for. You can show Chase, if you like?" Jack then seemed interested, he always was when Chase was mentioned.
"What's that?" His Mother pulled out a large ball. It was clearly manipulated by man, as it was too perfect to be made naturally.
Jack took it and examined it. It was a mixture of colours. Red and green. It looked surreal. As he looked at it, turning it in his hand, his Mother started to talk.
"Dragon's Blood Jasper." Jack openly laughed.
"Say what now? Come on!" Jack snickered but his Mother continued.
"Say what you want, Jack. It's quite fascinating. Dragon Blood Jasper, also known as Dragon Stone, stimulates creativity, attracts money and love, and helps you to achieve your goals. In the old days, they used to say that the red was the blood of a dragon and the green was the scales. With this green and red colouring, it connects directly to the Heart Chakra, helping you to hear your heart, and encouraging love, compassion, and forgiveness." Jack yawned and looked at his Mother with a bored and sceptical look.
"Well, dragons don't necessarily have green scales and depending on the purity of them, their blood can be different colours. Red sure, but can be gold or green even. Think I read somewhere that it can even be blue." Serena chose to roll her eyes also.
"I said in the old days, like people believed this. Doesn't mean that it was the truth, just what was written." Jack smirked, wondering if he should invite Chase over for dinner just so he can listen to his Mother's drivel on dragons. Jack would then laugh when Chase would explain in great detail what he did with said dragons.
"Speaking of dragons, why don't you invite Chase over? Haven't seen him in a while." Jack hummed and pulled out his phone. He put the stone in his pocket for the moment.
"I can call him but he might be busy. It is the lunar eclipse, he has issues with magic around this time." Jack started dialling.
"You have that claw thingy don't you? You could use that to get him?" Jack scoffed as he lifted the phone to his ear.
"The Golden Tiger Claws you mean?" The dial tone entered his ear as Jack was surprised when it didn't even ring and Chase had picked up.
"Spicer?" Jack wondered if the warlord would even want to come over.
"Hey Chase, Mom wanted to invite you over for dinner. If you can't make a portal, I have the Golden Tiger Claws if you want me to come get-"
"Already outside, Spicer." The phone cut off and the door bell sounded.
"Wow.. That was fast." Jack said and left to open the door.
"Thank you for the invitation, Spicer. My magic is fine this time round for once." Jack heard the moment he opened the door. Jack noticed that Chase was in a black shirt and with a few buttons opened, showing his collarbones and tight black slacks, his shoes were black also. He looked quite dapper.
"Did you plan on going elsewhere?" Jack said as he stood to one side to let the man in.
"No, but I think my armour is a little over the top just for dinner." Jack smirked and kissed the man on the lips.
"Can I have you for dessert?" The younger one whispered and it caused Chase to smirk himself.
"If you are good." Chase made his way through the house.
"Mom's in the kitchen."
"In here, Chase dear!" Jack and Chase entered the kitchen to see Serena packing up.
"Don't you look fancy!" Serena complimented Chase as she stood to hug the man. Chase accepted the embrace and then noticed the pile of gems on the table.
"A new hobby, Serena?" Chase was always polite when speaking with others, maybe an old habit from his monk days. But it usually followed a sarcastic quip after. "Precious stones?" Small but it was there. Jack grinned.
"What I said, other than they look pretty, no spiritual rubbish here." Jack laughed when his Mother swatted his arm playfully.
"You can shut up and help me clean up while I get dinner started. The boxes leave for now just put the pile on the table back in the bag." Jack snickered and did as he was told.
"Chase dear, why don't you take a seat at the table. Dinner won't be long. Would you like some wine?" Chase took a seat and gave his affirmation to the woman as he watched Jack tidy up. He noticed when Jack stood closer to him that he noticed the strange object in Jack's pocket.
"What's that?" Jack paused to follow Chase's eye line and snickered. He pulled out the stone to show him.
"Dragon Blood Jasper, or Dragon Blood Stone. Mom said she had this come with her little hobby." He gave it to Chase to have a gaze at it while he tidied the rest of the gems from the table.
Chase chuckled and rolled the ball around in his hands.
"I wouldn't scoff at this, Spicer. It is known for its energy. The energy contained within these gemstones is called kundalini, the dragon's energy. Warriors in ancient cultures channelled their inner kundalini in preparation for battle." Jack rolled his eyes.
"You should probably hold onto this stone, Spicer, Lord knows you need it. You still struggle in training."
"Not you too?" Chase chuckled and Serena made a noise that sounded like she was saying 'see?'.
"Magic often requires stones like these. Not all of them, but some of them." Jack groaned.
"Jack shush, go get into a nice outfit. Your boyfriend made the effort, you can too."
"Yes Jack, go make an effort. Lord knows, you can't do that much?" There was the heylin sass coming out.
"Shush your scaly tush!" Chase grinned and accepted the wine glass from Serena as she poured red wine into his glass. Jack ran off to get changed for the evening.
11. Blue Jade
Jack looked at Chase in wonder. Completely in awe of the man in his scaly form, it was utterly terrifying. But so beautiful to look at.
The dragon in question sat in silence and seemed to be meditating. Jack refused to make a noise when Chase was in 'the zone'. It was almost like the man was sleeping, but sat upright.
Jack noticed that there was a large blue stone in front of Chase and Jack watched on curiously.
"Jack. Come here."
Jack felt a shiver up his spine and could have sworn he heard Chase's voice but Chase was very still… and he never referred to him as Jack.
"Yes, it is me, Jack. Come over."
Jack was very apprehensive but made his way over to the dragon-man. The genius was slow in his movements, as if worried that he would disturb Chase.
"It's alright. I'm in a trance. Noise won't affect me."
Jack took more confident strides and sat beside Chase on the floor. Chase was floating in deep meditation, his snout pointed slightly towards the floor.
"Over here." Jack heard the voice more clearly and turned his head to the stone and saw Chase's human reflection. Except, it was a VERY human Chase Young.
"Chase?" The reflection nodded and smiled very kindly.
"Yes, Jack. It's me." Jack looked back at the dragon beside him and then back at the Xiaolin reflection.
"I'm very confused. What is it you are… or both of you… are doing?" Reflection Chase chuckled and explained.
"The stone I'm currently in is blue jade, it's really rare to come across. Its power represents wisdom and balance. Even Heylin warlords like myself need balance." Jack thought for a bit but then asked.
"But the reflection shows you as xiaolin."
"Yin and Yang, Jack." The reflection laughed while heartedly. Jack found it really weird to see Chase so carefree.
"Not gonna lie, you're freaking me out a bit." Chase hummed and agreed.
"Sorry, I suppose Xiaolin me is more open to emotion. But no soul takes those away."
"I guess that makes sense. Would heylin you be mad if I use this opportunity as a way to get to know you better? Or would that make you more paranoid?" Chase laughed and wafted a hand.
"Actually, I did it for you. Ask away." Jack felt touched that Chase would do something so sweet. He had told him in the past he hated affection and romance.
"I know you would never say it, but-"
"I love you." Jack felt his eyes prickle, but held it together. He looked into Chase's reflection and smiled.
"Thank you." Chase looked like he was very much in love with Jack and it almost made the tears fall.
"Easy, Jack. Meditation or not, I am still prone to territorial moments. In other words, if my mate is upset. I act." Jack instantly wiped his eyes carefully, mindful of his eyeliner.
"I know, I'm sorry. It's just…"
"I know, Jack. You do not need to explain that to me. Anything else?" Chase asked.
"Would you ever allow me to…" Jack trailed off wondering if it would offend both sides of Chase.
"Would you allow me to touch you in your dragon form? Not like that! As terrifying as you always look, you look so cool. I never wanted to touch your scales so bad. But you were always funny about it before." The reflection went quiet for a moment.
"I understand the innocence of it, Jack. But because of my temper, it's paranoia on my end. I don't want to hurt you." Jack's shoulders sank a bit.
"Even in a trance like this? Obviously, consent is a thing.. I don't want to make you mad.." Chase paused and appeared to think.
"You can try… I still would not recommend it."
"How about just your hand or arm?" Reflection Chase nodded but looked worried. Jack was very gentle when he placed his hand on Chase's reptilian form. So far no response and Jack took the initiative to slowly glide his fingertips across the scales.
"Feels like a snake skin. Soft. Sticking with the groove of course, I heard it hurts going the opposite direction. At least for snakes. You are so cool…" Chase never replied and Jack paused as he noticed in his peripheral vision that the snout was now close to his forehead, a growl above his head caused him to panic.
"Ch-chase?" The genius looked up to see that Chase was now no longer under a trance and now looking at Jack with a stern expression.
"I'm sorry…" Jack merely bowed his head and took his hands away and went to scuffle backwards to give Chase room. But he didn't get very far when Chase simply plopped into his lap. His head resting on his thighs. A content purr came from the reptile and Jack was confused to hell.
"Er… Chase?"
"You will not be getting another chance." Came the deep rumble on his lap and Jack gently ran his hand slowly over Chase's snout, gently over the ridge between Chase's now closed eyes. Jack felt through the dark spikes that protruded from his spine. Jack loved that Chase gave him this chance.
"Thank you."
12. Snowflake Obsidian
Jack hummed a small tune as he was going through a blueprint for a new battle bot. He decided that he needed to upgrade his bots to high heaven as they never last long enough in showdowns.
"There you are." Jack lifted his head up, pencil in mouth, and gazed up at the voice to find his idol and lover standing there. He removed the pencil and greeted the man happily.
"Hi, Chase! Everything okay?" Jack was still hunched over his desk, but stood straight to seem more attentive to the man.
"All is well, I wanted to show you something." Chase then pulled out a spear from out of nowhere. It always bewildered him how Chase did it, but he learned to never ask. Wasn't worth the headache.
"Woah, a spear? Cool. Is it a wu?" Chase shook his head.
"No but I do know your Father was looking for something like this. It's an obsidian battle spear." Jack gasped.
"No way!" Jack ran to his Master and took a look at the spear.
"Oh wow, not just obsidian but snowflake obsidian!" Chase smirked, Jack was like a walking encyclopaedia.
"Indeed. Any reason why your father was looking for one?" Jack shrugged, not really caring either way.
"Something about black obsidian is for power, protection, and grounding. While snowflake obsidian provides balance for body, mind and spirit. Makes sense for the spear, but no idea for Dad. Couldn't tell you." Chase shrugged and left the spear on a nearby table for Jack to give to his Father later.
"I miss you, Chase. You hardly visit." Chase turned and held his mate to him closely.
"I did offer for you to stay with me. But you chose to stay here."
"Only because my parents are still alive, Chase. I promised that when they die I would pack up my lab and make my way to you. But in time. I want to spend as much time with my folks when they are around." Jack explained, Chase sighed. He knew Jack's wishes.
"I know, I am just as frustrated too. Was trying to find an excuse just so I could see you." Jack snorted and looked up into ember eyes.
"Like you need an excuse you just turn up!" Chase chuckled.
"Ah but but a healthy relationship builds on trust, patience and understanding. Respecting one's privacy is also another thing." Jack sunk into the arms of his lover.
"I know, but I struggle too, you know. I miss you terribly." Jack felt Chase gently kiss the top of his head.
"Pathetic, isn't it?"
"Everyone has a weakness, Chase. Let's hope Bean never catches on." Chase hummed in agreement.
"I won't allow it to happen."
