"Luna," Chuckie walked into the office with a young girl behind him.
"Who is this?" Luna looked her over. She was wearing a pink hoodie and jeans.
"She says she's Coco's family. I told her she could wait in here if that's okay." He explains.
She did a double-take at the girl when she realized that this had to be his daughter. "Yeah, that's more than fine." She nods to Chuckie.
"Okay, I'll let him know when he gets here." He said before walking out.
"You must be Leticia." Luna smiles at the teen.
She looks at her with wide eyes, before shaking her head with a bitter chuckle. "I didn't think he told anyone about me. The last time I saw him, he made it pretty clear he doesn't want anything to do with me."
"When you find out your boyfriend lied to you about who he was with, you drag it out of him." Luna shrugs.
"Yo-you're his girlfriend." She points at the older woman in shock.
"Yeah, you want a glass of water or cola or something?" Luna got up.
"I'll take a cola." She whispers.
"Okay, take a seat, you don't have to be so nervous." She points to the guest chair before walking out. She went to the back of the bar to grab two glasses. She filled them with ice before pouring cola into them. She walks into the office and puts the cola in front of the teenager before taking a seat with her glass in hand.
"Thanks." She whispers.
"You're welcome… you know it's not that he doesn't want anything to do with you. He didn't want you to get mixed up with the dangerous part of his lifestyle." She took a sip.
"He thought it would be less dangerous to be with his psychotic whore of a mother." She scoffs.
"That wasn't what he wanted either." Luna shook her head.
"Then what did he want?" She sneers.
"That is a conversation for you and him to have. But, just know that the ball is in your court." She rolls over the stress ball she had by the phone towards her.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" She grabs the ball.
"Why wouldn't I be?" She tilts her head.
"Because you're his girlfriend." She put it simply.
"You know life's not a fairytale, not every stepmother is wicked," Luna said. They share a look before making a face. "Even as I said it, it sounds weird. Look, whatever role you want from me I'm willing to play."
"Really?" Her eyes widened.
"Yeah, as pathetic as it sounds I probably need it more than you. I don't have many girlfriends. I always wanted to be a big sister." Luna smiles.
"If I want a mother." Leti rolls the ball around in her hands.
"Then I do my best, but I have to warn you, mine was kind of a hardass." Luna teases.
"Then maybe I'll scratch that off the list." Leti laughs and Luna joins her. The laughter was cut short when the door opened. Coco followed by Angel and Ez came in.
"Hey, you okay?" He asks.
She stood up. "Not really." She shook her head before turning back to face Luna.
"What's going on brother?" Angel asks. As far as he knew Coco had a mother and two older ugly sisters. This girl couldn't be any of them. "Who are you?" He turned to the teen when his friend didn't answer him. She looks at Angel before looking at Coco. When he didn't answer she turned her head forward to look out the window showing the scrap yard.
"This is Leti. She's my kid." Coco finally introduces her. Leti looked at him in surprise that he didn't make up a lie. Luna was beaming with pride that he was stepping up. Angel and Ez looked at each other in shock.
"Bishop and Hank are looking for you." Chuckie came in to tell Coco.
"Give me a minute." He told Leti. She was a little upset that she had to wait, but nod her head. He walks outside with Angel and Ez.
"Does that happen a lot?" She sat back down.
"As the daughter of a club president, I will have to say, unfortunately, yes." Luna nods.
"You're the daughter of one of the presidents?" Leti pushes her eyebrows together.
"Yes, but not of this club. Of the Sons of Anarchy, it's a different club. An ally of the Mayans." She explains.
"You had to wait even if you really needed him." She asks.
"The one good thing about having the club as a family is that if he couldn't take care of it, he would make sure that someone did." Leti looks relieved at hearing those words. "Are you in some kind of trouble?"
"A lot actually." She looks down at her lap.
The roaring of bikes fades away as Ez walks in. "Coco had some club business. He'll be back in a couple of hours. You can wait here." He told her.
"I can't wait. He just left?" She got up.
"Had no choice." He looks down at her.
"Bullshit." She scoffs and walks past him.
"Hey, hey. Where are you going?" He yells at her back.
"She seems troubled," Chuckie told him.
"I'll keep that in mind, Chuckie." He sighs.
"Well, boy scout I'm sure you were put in charge of her, so come on." Luna walks after her. He follows.
"Hold on! Your dad wants you to stick around!" Ez yells.
"Shit that sounds weird. He's only been my dad, for like, a week." She said when they caught up to her.
"What?" He asks.
"I've only known him for a week." She explains.
"Oh." He let out.
Leti look at Luna and remember what she said about other members helping when her dad couldn't. "Can you help me?" She looks up at Ez. He looks off to the side, not believing he had to deal with this. "What is your name?"
"Ez, Ezekiel." He told her.
"Mm… like from the bible." She nods.
"And other places." He didn't feel like he was living up to the guy in the bible. "What's going on, Leti?"
Luna and Ez backed up when she took her hoodie off to leave her in a bra. "Shit." He cursed when he saw the bruises on her.
"Who did that to you?" Luna looks at the bruises that were large and dark.
She opens the trunks to show a dead guy with a screwdriver in his neck. "Fuck!" Ez slammed the trunk shut. "Who the fuck is that?" He points at the closed trunk.
"Albert." She simply said his name.
"Doesn't really paint the whole picture for me." Ez was going to need more than that.
"He gave me a ride. He seemed nice. We hung out for a few days. Last night, we partied and he fell asleep. I was just taking 10 bucks to get something to eat." She told them the story.
"He thought you were rolling him." Ez got the picture now.
Leti nods. "What do we do?"
"We?" Ez shakes his head.
"Yes, WE. Part of being in the club is that their family became your family. Leti is your family too now. You think the prospect when I was a teen wanted to help me with homework instead of chasing pussy, no but he did what he had to do." Luna glares at the prospect.
"Helping with homework and a dead body are two different things." Ez looks at her like she is crazy.
"Some would say that hiding a dead body is easier than trig and chemistry." She folds her arms across her chest.
Ez sighs before turning to Leti. "Where'd it happen?"
"In his truck, a rest stop off of 98. Nobody saw anything." She told him.
"Who's car is this?" Ez asks, seeing that the guy had a truck.
"Celia's, my grandmother." It felt weirdly relieving that the woman wasn't her mother.
"Get in and put your shirt on." Ez points to the car. When he sees Luna move towards the car he grabs her. "Not you." He shook her head.
"Why?" She asks.
"Because it is broad daylight, the fewer people involved the better. You are needed in the office." He points to her four-walled cell.
"Fine, nothing better happens to her or Coco will be the least of your worries." She pokes his chest.
"Keep this safe." He took off his cut and gave it to her.
"Sure." She walked into her office and hung it on the back of the guest's chair. "If he pulls this off, I'll be nice to him from now on." She promised herself before going back to work.
"Thank you so much, Ez. I promise to never call you boy scout again. I'll show you where the good tools are instead of the old rusty ones. I won't give you the crappy shifts anymore." Luna pulls Ez into a long hard hug. She got through talking to Leti and wanted to show her appreciation.
"Alright, calm down, he's still a prospect." Coco pulls her off him. "How are you feeling, boy scout?" He nods to him.
"A little wet, a little tired. Sorry about how this all went down." Ez felt bad that he saved his daughter when it should have been him.
"It's okay, man. That shit that you did for me, my family, I wouldn't expect that from anyone, table or otherwise. Thank you, Ez." He took a drag from his cig.
"Yeah, no worries." He took a glance at the ground before risking it to ask. "Can I ask you something?" Coco nods his head. "Why'd she just find out that you're her dad?"
"I never knew you had another kid." Angel couldn't believe that there was something he didn't know about his best friend.
"I don't know, shame I guess. Pride. See, my family tree it's like… it's like this invasive, bloodsucking weed that drains the life out of every fucking thing it touches. Gotta keep it away from the things I love. You saw what happened when Luna met my mom that one time." He nods to Angel. Angel nods back. His mom pops up at the house one day and the next thing he knew the two women were swinging at each other.
"She's inside." Ez nods to the office. Coco took another drag before going inside.
"Do you like chocolate cake? I make a good chocolate cake." Luna turns to Ez.
"Chocolate cake sounds good." He chuckles. He saw her spoils Angel, Coco, and Gilly but to be the center of her happy vibes was weird after only being under her calculated stare for so long.
"Come on, let's get something to drink?" Angel nods to the clubhouse.
"I'll be there in a minute." He needs some time to clear his head.
"Proud of you." Angel patted him on the back. Luna and he went into the clubhouse to get a drink.
Ez looks off, wondering about the complicated situation he found himself in. The closer he got to the guys the more he wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life. If he could really cut and run when this was over.
Angel and Luna were sitting on the couch, smoking, and drinking. Ez came up to them and whispered. "Is Bishop around?"
"He's in the Temple with Hank. Why?" He put his cig out in the ashtray.
"I was in the bathroom, front office. I heard Bishop and Hank grilling Chuckie about Coco, asking about Leti and if her name's Adelita." He informs making Angel and Luna sit up straight.
"What are you talking about?" Angel asks.
"Bishop thinks Coco's the fucking mole." Ez flat out told him, seeing he wasn't going to read between the lines.
"Shit, that's why he's been separating us." Angel sighs.
"Where's Coco now?" Ez looks around for the guy.
"He went with Leti to get rid of the truck," Luna told them. "What are we going to do?" She ran a hand through her hair as she looked at Angel.
"Don't worry about it. I'll take care of it. Trust me." Angel looks into her eyes to calm her down. Her panicking would make it suspicious to Bishop.
"Okay." She drank the rest of her beer. She got up to grab another round.
