Ranma raced outside of his house to locate Miyuki as quickly as possible. "Miyuki!" Ranma called as he got outside and rounded the house to the window he had seen Miyuki staring through.
Miyuki glanced over to him slowly, then returned her gaze back through the window. "Hi, Ranma," she said.
"Miyuki, your brother is worried and looking for you," Ranma said, trying to take her attention away from their daughter as he cautiously approached her.
"Ranma, who is that baby?" she asked, calmly and quietly.
"That's.. That's Megami," Ranma said, trying to evade the actual question.
"I've heard Kaze and Arashi mention that name. Who is she?" she asked Ranma again.
"She's," Ranma paused, trying with all of his might to think of an answer that wasn't a lie. "She's my daughter." Ranma finally said.
"Your daughter? She looks so familiar. Have I met her before?" Miyuki asked, her eyes never leaving the baby she was watching through the window.
Ranma shook his head. "No, I don't think you actually ever did," he answered to the best of his knowledge.
Miyuki's face looked pained. "I know this might sound crazy, Ranma, but I feel like I know this baby. Could I meet her?" she asked Ranma.
Ranma began to sweat. What can I do? Tell her she can't meet the baby but her sister and Ukyo can spend time with her? "I'm not sure if that's a good idea, Miyuki," Ranma tried.
"Why not?" Miyuki turned and looked at Ranma, annoyance and frustation obvious on her expression. Her eyes, however, looked sad and confused.
"Because it may be too much for you. You've already met so many people from your past and have been through so much," Ranma explained.
Miyuki scoffed. "Don't treat me like I'm going to break, Ranma. I get enough of that from Kaze and now Arashi. I'm fine. Why do I feel like you're trying to keep me away from this baby? You haven't even mentioned her to me," Miyuki asked.
Ranma started to breathe a little faster. "I.. I don't know. If you think you're going to be fine, then I guess you can meet her," Ranma said, defeated, and offered his hand to lead her inside. Miyuki smiled at him, satisfied with the answer, and took his hand.
As they entered the house, Kaze appeared in the doorway. "Ranma!" he called.
Ranma stopped and turned to look at Kaze. "Hey, man. Sorry, she just showed up and was looking at Megami through the window. I didn't know what else to do. She wants to meet her. She says she's fine," Ranma tried to explain himself.
"She can't. That's too big. This could really set her back. What are you thinking, letting her meet Megami?" Kaze told Ranma.
"I'm right here," Miyuki said sternly. "Why are you trying so hard to keep me away from this baby? What is going on?" Miyuki demanded.
Kaze's face fell and he looked at Ranma. Ranma shrugged and said, "See?"
Kaze looked panicked. "We don't know how this will go, Ranma," he said.
"Why don't we let her try?" Ranma suggested.
"Looks like we aren't going to get much of a choice anymore, I guess," Kaze sighed and looked at Miyuki. "Why are you so stubborn?"
"How would I know? I don't remember anything. Is someone going to tell me what's so special about this baby that you're trying so hard to keep me away from?" Miyuki asked.
Kaze smiled at his sister. "She's definitely a special baby. We can talk more later. Go ahead and meet her, then," Kaze said with obvious anxiety over the situation.
Miyuki nodded, let go of Ranma's hand and walked into the living room. Ukyo and Arashi were busy giggling with Megami on the floor before they both looked up and saw Miyuki. Both of their faces dropped. "Miyuki!" They said in unison.
"Hello girls. If you don't mind, I would like to meet Megami," she said as she approached. Miyuki kneeled down in front of the baby as the other two women moved out of the way. Arashi gave Kaze a look that said clearly said What the hell? Ukyo glanced at Ranma with worry for Miyuki and Megami.
"Hello there, Megami," Miyuki smiled at the baby.
"Mama!" Megami screeched as she reached up to her mother to pick her up. Miyuki looked confused, but decided to pick up the child. Miyuki looked over at Ranma, very confused.
Ranma leaned over to Kaze. "We're going to have to tell her, Kaze. Megami knows what her mother looks like," he reminded him.
Kaze sighed. "I know. I'm just scared for her. Excited that she is meeting her daughter, but scared this will hurt her somehow," Kaze said.
Megami squealed with delight, laughed, and then looked up at her mother's reaction. Miyuki just stared at the child, stunned. Megami looked confused, ye thoughtful, as she watched her mother's face. "Mama?" Megami asked.
Miyuki giggled. "You're such a sweet baby girl, aren't you? I feel a strong connection here, but I don't understand it. Are you sure I haven't met her before?" Miyuki asked as she turned and looked at Ranma.
Ranma looked at Kaze, then back to Miyuki. "Yeah, I'm sure," he answered.
Miyuki looked thoughtful, then brushed some of Megami's curly hair back to look at her green eyes. "Is she related to us?" she asked. "She looks just like.. well, everyone I've met in our family, Kaze." Miyuki looked at Kaze.
Kaze stood in silence without knowing what to say or how to answer his sister without revealing everything. Ranma looked at Kaze. "Can we tell her yet? She deserves to know," he said.
Kaze looked back at Ranma. "I know. You're right. Let's just hold on a little bit and see how she does with this first," Kaze said with a sigh as he lost the battle.
Megami tilted her head and looked up at her mother and stared at her. After a few moments, she reached her hand up to her mother's face and began to lightly glow a white light.
"What's going on?" Ranma asked.
Ukyo looked at Ranma. "Has Megami ever glowed like that before?" she asked. Ranma shook his head to say no, in a mild amount of shock that his daughter was glowing.
"That's divine energy," Arashi said with a smirk, looking proud of her niece.
Miyuki looked confused as she watched the baby reach up and connect with her cheek. The white glow started to envelop Miyuki. The light washed over her slowly at first, picking up speed as it reached further and further around her body. Miyuki stared at the baby, shocked and confused about what was happening. Megami smiled as she watched her work in action. After a few moments, Megami removed her hand and giggled at her mother. Miyuki continued to stare at the baby, not saying a word. A tear fell from her eye, rolled down her face and landed on Megami's leg. Miyuki brought the baby to her chest and hugged her tightly. "My daughter," Miyuki said out loud. "I'm so sorry I haven't been here."
"What just happened?" Ranma asked Kaze.
"I'm not actually sure," Kaze answered, his eyes not leaving the scene in front of him.
Miyuki stood up, Megami still in her embrace, and then turned to look at Ranma, Kaze, Arashi and Ukyo. Her eyes were fighting to hold in tears that were ready to fall, but haven't quite made it out yet.
"Miyuki?" Ranma asked.
Miyuki smiled as another tear fell from her face. "Ranma. We have a daughter," she said as realization spread across Ranma's face. Ranma smiled at Miyuki and nodded.
The others looked confused. Kaze approached Miyuki. "Sister, are you.. do you remember something?" Kaze asked.
Miyuki smiled and nodded. "This is my child. I couldn't tell Ranma about her because the pregnancy was draining my divine energy quickly and I couldn't come back to Earth. You stayed with me. I went into labour and then.. and then I was on Earth, alone. Megami. The name I picked when I was in the heavens. Our little Goddess. I can't believe she's lived this long without her mother," Miyuki said.
Everyone looked to have a touch of relief on their faces. Megami squealed, broke her mother's embrace and started clapping her hands. Miyuki giggled. "You must have had an amazing Daddy for you to have grown into such a sweet girl," Miyuki said as she smiled at Ranma again.
"Mama!" Megami squealed. Megami giggled at her daughter.
"Kaze," Arashi called her brother over. "Her divine energy.. I don't know what Megami did, but I feel a faint amount of it on Miyuki now."
Kaze raised an eyebrow and then looked over at Miyuki. "This is really strange," he responded. Arashi nodded.
Miyuki closed her eyes as she hugged her child again. She turned and opened her eyes to look at Ranma. "Thank you, Ranma. Thank you for letting me meet my daughter."
Akane walked down the street to Ucchan's. As she entered, she noticed Ryoga behind the counter, with his back to her, frantically cleaning the grill. "Hey Ryoga, what's going on?" Akane asked.
Ryoga jumped up. "Oh, hi Akane," Ryoga chuckled nervously. "Have you spoken to Ukyo?"
Akane shook her head. "Not since we saw Machiko," she told him.
Ryoga sighed. "So, you know, too?" he asked. Akane nodded. Ryoga scoffed. "This is so stupid. I didn't ask my parents to try to arrange a marriage for me. I didn't even think this was something they cared about. I guess they were just so grateful to get their directional issues under control that they were willing to give up their own child," Ryoga explained, mostly to himself.
"Machiko said she was trying to help stop the engagement so that your parents would sign the papers for you to marry Ukyo," Akane said as she sat down on the stool.
Ryoga nodded. "Yeah, that's why Ranma took her out. I asked him to. That was her condition. She wanted Ranma. I don't understand what all you girls see in him, honestly. He's a mess most of the time," he said.
Akane nodded. "That makes sense, I guess. I mean, it explains why he was out with her while trying to tell me he wanted to be with me," Akane said.
"I'm sorry I got him wrapped up in this, Akane. How are you doing?" Ryoga asked.
Akane smiled. "It's been a hard day, but it's getting better. Kaze and I made up today," Akane announced.
Ryoga smiled. "That's great. I'm glad you're happy," Ryoga told her honestly.
"I'm concerned about Ranma, though," Akane said.
"Why is that? What's wrong with Ranma? Everything okay with Megami or Miyuki?" Ryoga asked.
"Nothing has changed with them, as far as I know," Akane said. "We did have a big talk today. He definitely opened up more than I ever thought he would, but I guess he didn't expect the conversation to go the way it did and he kind of broke down."
"Ranma broke down?" Ryoga asked, mildly shocked.
"Don't tell him I told you, but yes. I thought that you and Ukyo should know so you could help him as his only other real friends. I've never seen him like this, Ryoga. He was hysterical. I plan to keep my distance for a while," Akane said.
"Your distance? What about our wedding?" Ryoga asked.
Akane's face dropped. "Oh. You're right. I guess I can't keep my distance as much as I was thinking, but I guess outside of wedding stuff and after for a while," Akane said.
"Sorry, Akane. We need you both there," Ryoga said with a smile.
"Hey guys," Ukyo said as she entered Ucchan's.
"Hey, beautiful. Everything okay?" Ryoga asked with a touch of nervousness.
"The strangest thing just happened at Ranma's," Ukyo started.
"What's wrong?" Ryoga asked.
"Yeah, Ukyo. What happened?" Akane asked.
"Miyuki showed up. Kaze couldn't find her, but apparently she found her way to Ranma's house. I can't explain everything, but she met Megami and.. It seems Megami did something and now it appears that Miyuki got her memory back," Ukyo tried her best to explain. Her anger from before faded due to the events of the day.
"She got her memory back? How?" Akane asked.
"I don't know. Megami kind of glowed this white light, then it went over Miyuki and then boom Miyuki knew that was her daughter and seemed to remember everything that happened," Ukyo said.
"Wow. She is such a special little girl," Akane said with a smile.
"She sure is. I'm so happy for her. She knew that was her mother the second she saw her. She's so smart," Ukyo said with a smile, as well.
"That's fantastic news, honey!" Ryoga said.
"What about Ranma?" Akane asked.
"What about him?" Ukyo asked.
"Is he okay?" Akane asked.
"What do you mean? He's fine, I think. We didn't exactly have much time to talk about him or what's going on with him since I was scolding him and then everything with Miyuki," Ukyo said.
"Oh," Akane said.
"What's going on?" Ukyo looked at Ryoga.
Ryoga leaned over to Ukyo. "Seems she and Ranma had a chat earlier and Ranma didn't take it so well," he said quietly.
"Oh, Akane. Are you okay? What happened?" Ukyo asked.
Akane smiled at Ukyo. "I'm just concerned about Ranma. He had a bit of a breakdown when I told him that we couldn't be together and he should be trying to make things work with Megami's mother. Who am I kidding? It wasn't a bit of a breakdown, he was crying his eyes out. I can't even be upset with Miyuki. It's not her fault she lost her memory and they all deserve a chance to be a family. I am just concerned about his mental health while dealing with all this. I may have chosen not to be with him, but I still care about his well being. After all that, Kaze came over to see me," Akane said as she started to smile. "He has chosen to forgive me and work things out."
"That's wonderful, Akane! I was concerned I would have to find a different plus one for you for the wedding," Ukyo laughed. Ryoga raised an eyebrow at his future bride. "What? I'm sorry, but the wedding is almost here! Speaking of, have you gotten in touch with your parents yet?" Ukyo asked.
Ryoga nodded. "They are expecting us tomorrow for lunch. Machiko is going to come to back us up, too, if you're okay with that." Ryoga explained.
Ukyo nodded. "Best to get this all out on the table. We will wait until after we are twenty if they won't sign, but I don't want to wait. We deserve to be married," Ukyo smiled, then leaned over and kissed Ryoga quickly on the lips. Ryoga blushed.
"I'm so happy everything seems to be working out, guys. Ukyo, do you need me to make another appointment for the flowers?" Akane asked.
Ukyo nodded. "I would appreciate that very much. Thank you, Akane."
Kaze and Arashi stayed to the side of the Saotome living room, watching the young parents with their daughter for the first time.
"Miyuki is glowing," Arashi said.
"No, she isn't," Kaze looked at Arashi, confused.
Arashi laughed. "Not literally, brother. I mean, she looks really happy," she explained.
"Oh. Yes, she does. I'm still concerned this is too much too fast, though," Kaze said.
"Hey, she's doing okay. Plus, she remembers us now. Seems Megami is a little healer," Arashi beamed, proud of her niece.
Kaze nodded. "Yeah, she sure is. I've never seen that before. Little halflings are such a mystery," Kaze said as he smiled.
"Ranma, she's so special. You've done so good with her. I'm so happy to be here with you two," Miyuki said, barely able to contain just how happy she was at this moment.
Ranma smiled at her. "I'm really happy for both of you, Miyuki. Megami deserves to have her mother," he said. Miyuki's gaze shifted back to a happy Megami, as Ranma looked away for a moment and thought about the day's earlier events with Akane. This is what Akane wants for Megami. This is what I want for Megami. This is like a dream come true for Megami. I feel like this would have been a dream come true for me, too, but things shifted. I'm so conflicted. I love both of them. Ugh, I can't believe it. I sound like Kuno.
"Ranma?" Miyuki asked. Ranma looked back to Miyuki and smiled. "Are you okay?" she asked him.
"Of course I am. It's just been a long day," Ranma said as he brushed a piece of Miyuki's hair behind her ear.
Miyuki blushed. Megami asked to be lifted up by her mother, so she obliged and held her in her arms. Megami snuggled up to Miyuki and began to fall asleep. Miyuki became incredibly overwhelmed with emotions. "Ranma, she's so sweet. I think she's had a long day, too. Where does she sleep?" Miyuki asked.
Ranma smiled, stood up and then reached his hand out to help Miyuki to her feet as well. Ranma looked over to Kaze and Arashi. "We will be right back, guys. I'm going to show Miyuki where Megami sleeps and put Megami to bed," Ranma said and then yawned.
Arashi giggled. "Sounds like you need to go to bed, too, Ranma."
"I'm a parent, Arashi. I always sound like I need to go to bed," Ranma said with a chuckle. He turned to look at Miyuki. "She's getting heavier. Would you like me to carry her?" Ranma asked.
Miyuki shook her head. "No, I'm okay. I would like to carry her, if you don't mind," she said. Ranma nodded and then led Miyuki to Megami's room.
Miyuki entered and looked around. "Wow, Ranma. What's with all the angel stuff?" Miyuki asked.
Ranma laughed. "That would be my mother," he said. "Here's her crib."
Miyuki carefully put Megami down in her crib while Ranma stood beside her. Ranma reached over and pulled Megami's blanket up over her body and tucked her in. He then reached for her angel stuffed toy and laid it beside her. Miyuki watched lovingly. "Wow, Ranma," Miyuki said. "This is surreal." Ranma smiled at Miyuki. Miyuki smiled back and then started to sing lightly to their sleeping daughter, as she started to stroke the baby's hair.
"Sleep my child and peace attend thee,
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee,
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and dale in slumber sleeping
I my loved ones' watch am keeping,
All through the night
Angels watching, e'er around thee,
All through the night
Midnight slumber close surround thee,
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and dale in slumber sleeping
I my loved ones' watch am keeping,
All through the night"
"Miyuki, that was beautiful. I didn't know you could sing," Ranma said to her.
Miyuki chuckled softly. "I'm tennyo. I was born in the heavens, Ranma. Of course I can sing," Miyuki said and then smiled at Ranma. She started to look around the room and noticed her picture. She walked over to it and picked it up to give it a better look. "You kept this photo of me by her bed?" Miyuki asked.
Ranma nodded. "She deserved to know what her mother looked like," he told her.
Miyuki smiled. "You're such a good man," Miyuki said as she put the photo back down and walked over to Ranma. She lifted her hand to his face and touched him softly. "Thank you for all of this, Ranma. I wouldn't be here able to remember anyone if you didn't let me in to meet my daughter. I don't know why Kaze was so against it, but this saved me," Miyuki said.
Ranma smiled at her. "I'm glad, but I think our daughter is the one that did all the work," he said.
Miyuki looked back to Megami and sighed. "I don't want to leave her," she said.
Ranma looked at her with concern. "You can come back and see her any time, Miyuki," he said.
Miyuki shook her head. "I can't live apart from her, Ranma," she said.
Ranma chuckled nervously. "What do you mean?" he asked.
"I want my daughter to live with me, Ranma," Miyuki said point blank.
Ranma's face dropped. "This is her home, Miyuki," he argued.
"I'm her mother, Ranma. I need to be with her," she said.
"Miyuki, you can't just take her from me," Ranma said, starting to panic.
"Well, then you should come with us," Miyuki said. Ranma started to force himself to breathe deeply. "Ranma, are you okay?" she asked.
"Miyuki, you just met her. Can we take some time to think about all this and discuss it when we aren't so.. overwhelmed?" Ranma asked.
Miyuki nodded. "You're right. I just know that I won't be able to rest being apart from her any longer than I already have been. We have so much time to make up for," she said.
"I understand. Why don't you stay here tonight?" Ranma offered.
Miyuki looked up at him and smiled. "Okay. For tonight."
Later that night, Kaze decided to pay Akane another visit to update her on what was happening with his family.
"Is restoring memory a thing that tennin and tennyo can normally do? Why didn't one of you just do that before?" Akane asked.
"No, it's not. It's actually very rare for half tennyo children to have any powers or usable amounts of celestial energy, let alone instinctively know how to use it. Full blooded tennin and tennyo have no ability to restore memory. That is completely new to me," Kaze explained.
"Wow. She's not even a year old yet. Is it normal for them to be so smart?" Akane asked.
Kaze smiled at her. "Of course. But, let's stop talking about them for a little while. I've spent enough time today worrying about them. They are both at Ranma's tonight," Kaze told her.
"She's spending the night at Ranma's?" Akane asked, a little surprised. I guess he isn't wasting any time there, is he?
"Does that bother you?" Kaze asked.
"No, why would it?" Akane responded quickly.
"I don't expect all of your feelings to just turn off because I've forgiven you, Akane. Miyuki just didn't want to leave Megami. I don't blame her. She's missed almost a year of her life. Nodoka and Genma were very understanding when they arrived back home. She's sleeping in Megami's room," Kaze said reassuringly. "Now, I'd like to talk about us."
Akane sighed. "Okay. What do you want to talk about?" Akane asked, nervous what Kaze may want to bring up.
Kaze smirked and leaned in closer to Akane and slowly brought his head down to hers and kissed her softly on the lips.
Akane's eyes widened. "Wow, what was that for?" she asked as she smiled.
"I am just appreciating you," he said as he brushed Akane's hair back and leaned in and started trailing kisses across her jaw and down her neck. Akane moaned lightly at the touch, which drove Kaze a little crazy inside. Kaze's hand started to stroke Akane's arm, drawing little circles on it as his kisses traveled further down her collar bone. A chill traveled down Akane's spine as she developed goosebumps on her skin and shivered from the touch. This was completely new territory for Akane, and for Kaze as well. Kaze pulled himself back upwards to Akane's lips and pressed down once again before pulling back and looking into Akane's eyes. "You're so beautiful. I love you, Akane." Akane smiled, her face flushed with desire. "I love you, Kaze."
