Chapter 15 The big reveal
Dean came awake feeling the panic of his lungs as he tried to pull in deeper breaths only to be stopped from fully expanding his lungs by the weight on his back. He knew there was no way he could push up on his arms to give his lungs more room but he tried anyway. Pushing up on arms that were spread as far as they could go without being stretched out of joint and only having thin strips of metal to push again was a huge challenge.
It took ten minutes of straining with sweat pouring off him to get him up just two inches. His lungs felt like it was ten inches as they expanded as far as they could. Dean gulped air in as his arms shook. His vision started to blur after a couple of minutes and he worked to control his breathing so he wasn't gulping greedily. The last thing he needed to do was fall and break some ribs. Dean was able to keep himself up for ten minutes before slowly lowering himself those two inches.
Dean had to struggle to keep his breathing shallow and controlled. He could feel hyperventilation and a panic attack on the edge of his mind and knew that's what this kind of torture was designed to do. After half an hour, Dean raised himself again mainly to give himself something to do as his brain was foggy and dull with disuse and drugs. It helped get rid of some of the continuous cramps he had been living with so long he forgot they were even there. He had just lowered himself and was panting harshly when the door opened and two men in ski masks and long black coats came through. They wasted no time in lifting the weights off Dean's back then the taller of the two that Dean recognized by his build and smell as his torturer went to his arms and untapped and removed the IVs from his arms. Yep something was up all right. The men moved around the room for some minutes removing all the medical supplies.
The shackles from his left arm and leg were quickly undone and he was yanked over onto his back. The cold edge of the bed bit into his raw back as it hit knocking the wind out of him slightly. It didn't keep him from trying to fight back against the taller of the two who had rolled him over and now hung onto the cuffs keeping him on his back. The shorter one threw a bucket of water over his crotch area which was embarrassingly wet and smelly. By the smell of it the water had soap in the mix. There was another thrown over his chest then two buckets of clear water for a rinse off all freezing cold. Dean was flipped back over and the handcuffs snapped back on before he could struggle too much. The guys held Dean down and injected something into his arm. Whatever it was, it was strong as it had Dean out within two minutes even though he fought to stay awake.
Sam woke slowly recognizing the taste of drugs in his system. He was standing hanging forward a fair way from the wall on hard manacles on his wrist and automatically stood up fully to take the weight off his wrists. As soon as he was awake enough, he tried to take stock of his situation. He was shackled to the wall by handcuffs on a chain and still dressed from what he could tell. He shivered as he realized he was without his jacket. The room he was in was very dark and there was no wind or sound. His nose told him he was in a factory of some sort and he sniffed to try to work out just what factory it was.
There was a noise in front of him and he called out.
"Dean?"
"No, sorry Sam."
A light clicked on ten meters in front and slightly to the right of him. Sam's heart sank as he saw Joe standing in a pool of light from a single hanging bulb in a dark blue T shirt and black jeans.
"Joe?"
"Jeremy. Sorry Sam couldn't tell you my real name in case it ruined the surprise."
"What surprise? Where's my brother?"
Jeremy clapped his hands slowly with an amused expression.
"Brother huh? I knew you were the smart one. I've got the others running round in circles."
"Dean guessed there was something wrong." Sam jutted his chin in defiance as he defended his brother.
"Dean guessed you say? Let's ask him shall we?"
Jeremy/Joe reached up and flicked a switch on a power board hanging down above him and another bulb turned on two meters from the one that had been on. Dean was lying level with him but ten meters away and close to Jeremy spread-eagled on his back. His wrists and ankles were shackled to the ground with handcuffs. Sam took in the fact Dean had no shirts, boots or socks on with a shiver. He could see blood on his bare chest. Sam was immediately distressed by how far Dean's ribs stood out and what he could see of his face looked thin as well.
Dean's eyes were closed and he didn't move when Sam called out.
"Dean!"
