When the bell rang, Wally rushed out of school and to the nearest zeta tube. Today has been a trying day with bullies and rude teachers. Wally finally let out a sigh of relief when he materialized into the cave.
Wally walked into the living room, only to realize that he was one of the first people at the cave. He decided then to pulled his phone out of his pocket, texting the group chat to see when everyone was going to get to the cave,
Pocketing his phone, Wally went over to the fridge to make himself a sandwich before making his way towards his room to unwind before everyone got there and training started. He left his backpack and hoodie on the sofa, reminding himself to get it later.
Passing Robin's room, Wally realized it was cracked just a sliver but just enough that he could see Dick laying on his bed upside down, scrolling on his phone. Dick didn't seem to notice that Wally was even there or that his door was open a crack.
As Wally was about to call out to Robin, he realized that Dick probably wouldn't hear him over the music playing in the background. It was pretty loud even to Wally in the hallway but Dick didn't seem to mind it.
Wally stood there observing for a few moments, pondering what he should do before he recognized the song that way playing. Dick had been going through a somewhat rough time lately so his song choice didn't surprise Wally at the moment.
"Sometimes quiet is violent
I find it hard to hide it
My pride is no longer inside
It's on my sleeve"
Wally leaned back against the opposite wall, closing his eyes and just listened for a few moments. Dick had a hard time expressing himself emotionally but being raised by the Bat, it was understandable. He used music to express how he was feeling, you just had to be aware enough to recognize it.
Dick told Wally before that music was an escape for him. It was comforting. Being able to throw on a pair of headphones and letting the day's trouble and problems just slip away by listening to music was Dick's therapy.
"There's no hiding for me
I'm forced to deal with what I feel
There is no distraction to mask what is real
I could pull the steering wheel"
Wally decided then to open the door and announce his present to Dick. As soon as he opened the door, Dick looked up at him and jumped up from his bed in a hurry.
Dick didn't have his sunglasses on so as he jumped off the bed, he hastily threw them on. It wasn't often that someone was able to catch him off guard like Wally was able to.
Being best friends for so long, Wally read the body language of Dick easily. He was an open book to Wally. Wally held his hands up as a mock sign of surrender before Dick grabbed his phone off the bed and paused the music.
"I didn't know you were here," Dick said, rubbing the back of his head. Wally just shrugged and flopped on the bed, "I sent a message in the group chat when I got here" Dick looked at his phone, "Oh, I didn't see it."
"You okay?" Wally asked. Dick looked away and nodded, "Yeah, just a long day." Wally hummed and patted the bed next to him. Dick hesitated for a moment before laying back down and making himself comfortable on the bed again.
The pair laid in silence for a few minutes before Wally spoke up again, "You can unpause it if you want" Dick studied him for a few moments. Wally simply started scrolling on his phone, unbothered by Dick's staring.
Dick picked his phone back up and the music started playing again midsong. Dick pulled his sunglasses off his face again and settled next to Wally. He started scrolling again like before. His foot slowly started moving to the beat of the song.
"I have these thoughts, so often I ought
To replace that slot with what I once bought
'Cause somebody stole my car radio
And now I just sit in silence"
The pair laid there, comfortable for about an hour before they heard M'gann and Conner come back. Wally got up and stretched, back popping, "Training is in an hour, I'm gonna go get some food."
Dick nodded, sitting up. "Walls?" Dick called. Wally turned around from opening the door, "Yeah?" Dick smiled, "Thanks." Wally smiled back, "Anytime, Dickie."
