For the next few days Hiccup was completely and utterly miserable, he kept going back into that room and all the other wardrobes in the house to see if he could go back, but the backs were all solid wood. While the others had been doing the things they had discussed on the first day, such as fishing, or hunting, not that Hiccup was any good at those things anyways. But they did other stuff too.
As Hiccup refused to do anything else other than look for Narnia the others had begun to worry about Hiccup's odd behavior even Hiccup never hunted for trolls intently, except for Snotlout who was always joking about sending Hiccup off to an Insane Asylum or sneering at Hiccup asking if he had found any new lands which Hiccup pointedly annoyed though it's not always easy to ignore him. Once when Hiccup was checking a wardrobe Snotlout pushed him in and slammed the doors shut, needless to say Heather almost broke his arm, and Astrid nearly broke his other arm. They tried everything, sweets, candy, literally dragging him out of the house for a nice summer day he was very slippery though having lots of practice of getting away from people.
They even invited him into their games, which they didn't usually do as he was too weak or too easily distracted or too annoying as Snotlout said and since most of their games were competitive it was usually seen as a weakness having him on their team who would trip on his own feet or come up with some idea that would go wrong and cause them to lose.
Hiccup despite being the skinny and scrawny boy that he was, he could also be quite stubborn, perhaps the stubbornest of them all considering how many times his ideas failed and this time he was set on finding Narnia again, even if he had to do it alone ( like when he went hunting for trolls). Besides he was alone most of the time anyways so it wasn't much of a difference. When he found it though and showed the others they would stop looking at him as if he was crazy, because he Knew that it was true! Though as the days stretched on he wondered if it was just a dream but like I said, this lot of children had stubbornness issues.
Ruffnut and Tuffnut were enjoying this hilarious chaos and kept running out of wardrobes saying they had found Narnia, but since they were downstairs they pronounced it exactly as they had heard it, "Mi -muffled sound - nia!"
The other less mean ones thoughts on this was ranging from worried, ( Dagur and Fishlegs ) to exasperated ( Astrid ) or both ( Heather )
On the 4th night as they declared it, "Insanity," after Hiccup had gone to bed they decided to have a little talk downstairs about the behavior he was displaying.
They sat awkwardly around the table in their pajamas before Dagur started the talk, "Do we have any idea of what must be causing this?"
"Insanity?" suggested the twins which were there go to answer for everything.
"Why would he go insane?" scoffed Astrid lighting up a candle so they could see.
"Well," suggested Snotlout still keeping up his tough guy act, "Fishlegs was talking to me earlier-"
"Fishlegs!?" they all shouted shocked waking up a certain auburn brown haired boy upstairs though he didn't know the reason as he glanced around the empty room wondering if they all got sent to Narnia and he didn't as he shook himself awake.
"I did?" asked Fishlegs before seeing Snotlout's expression of death, "I mean- I did!"
"Well anyways as Fishface was saying, he thinks that maybe the war is what did it, Hiccup ran inside right before the bomb exploded to grab some sort of toy," he said disdainfully, before adding, "I think his Mom gave it to him, it was a really old dragon toy plushie, he called it "Nadder,"
Getting back on topic Snotlout continued, "Maybe the near experience with death or just the bombing and the war in general… broke Hiccup...," said Snotlout quietly trailing off at the last part before adding in his usual voice laughing, "I wonder what he hallucinates next! I am going to borrow my Grandfather's camera and film him going crazy next time!"
This earned him a smack in the head by Astrid but the others agreed with him, or rather "Fishlegs," as Snotlout put it, until the last part.
They continued to talk about the subject while said boy is getting dressed upstairs and tip toeing down only to hear laughing from Snotlout and his name and "Insanity," he knew the others didn't believe him but he didn't think they would go so far to laugh and scoff behind his back at what they believed to be fantasies, sure let's have a secret party and laugh about how useless Hiccup is and how he has gone batty.
Right now all Hiccup wanted was to get to a true friend, not that he really thought him and the others were friends, they put up with him that's it.
He ran away heading towards the wardrobe hardly caring how noisy he was being though taking a detour so they wouldn't find him. He knew this house better than anyone he knew enough that there were 3 staircases on the bottom floor and it was circular, almost meaning you could get around easily. He went down to the bottom floor and went in the opposite direction intending to loop back around and see if the Wardrobe would let him in again, he hoped so.
The others head him and ran after him realizing what he must be thinking falling instantly into his trap, except for Snotlout who paused for a moment wondering why he would be going the wrong way considering he probably would have been heading towards the wardrobe.
Still he followed the others as they started to search the bottom floor for Hiccup who could squeeze in about anywhere, they didn't hear him silently walk back up the other stairs so they kept searching in the wrong place as Hiccup headed towards the wardrobe and this time, this time, when he walked through he started to feel chilly and soon the coats became branches, he had done it! He was back in Narnia!
Back downstairs Snotlout was still trying to figure out his cousins behavior when he remembered the way the house was, after all Hiccup wasn't the only one who came here during Summer Break though he had come a lot less considering Kirk wasn't his Grandfather as he was on Valka's side of the family.
Rushing back upstairs Snotlout went to the wardrobe, which was still left open, perhaps Hiccup had forgotten to shut it all the way and Snotlout poked his head into the wardrobe, "Hiccup? Hiccup? I was just joking ok, i'm- i'm s-sorry… you hear that? I said im sorry, you can gloat about that later just come out! Hiccup? Hiccup I know you're here! Just come out already!" He found it difficult to say the words ``i'm sorry" though like he did most of the time, he almost never said those words and they were basically nonexistent.
No response Snotlout took this as Hiccup being annoyingly stubborn again and planned to drag him out considering he was probably hiding in the back, as he stepped in the wardrobe and shut the door, "I hope you're not afraid of the dark!"
He kept feeling around for his cousin in the dark though it seemed no matter how far he stepped there was no end until he thought he felt something rough like a tree branch poke against his side, he figured it must have been a hanger, and continued on but he could not find anything in the darkness not even the door though for some reason it seemed to be getting lighter.
Crunch, Crunch.
He looked down and went to push whatever he was crunching on out of the way not wanting to slip but when he touched it, it felt… cold and not the cold that you might feel on wood but a snow kind of cold… it was snow...
He was starting to feel worried now could Hiccup's ludicrous tales be true? He hoped not, he would never hear the end of it. And yet he also wanted to hope because that meant his cousin wasn't going actually insane.
Sure enough though he emerged in a snow filled forest with snow all over the leaves branches which were dunked onto him when he scrambled out of the thicket almost as if they were mocking him saying, "Eat that boyo, see what happens when you don't believe Hiccup, he proves you right! Hahaha!"
It was strangely in his fathers voice though he decided not to dwell on that factoid.
Glancing around he saw no sign of his cousin, Hiccup, as he stood up gazing around in amazement of the forest, still calling out for his cousin as he passed a lamppost which for some reason was standing in the middle of nowhere, "Hiccup! Hiccup where are you? Hiccup? I think I believe you now!"
There still was no answer as Hiccup was currently having a pleasant time at Mr. Tummnus's place in a cave where he wouldn't be able to hear Snotlout.
There was no life in these woods at all though, no squirrels or robins, or badgers or anything, he could see it was winter but he should have seen some animal by now, almost as if they knew something foreboding was coming as animals usually do.
Still Snotlout pressed on, he now remembered all the mean things he had said to him about the "imaginary country" which now turned out to not have been imaginary at all. He's probably still angry about all the things I've been saying lately.
"I'm sorry I didn't believe you! I see now that you were ri-right all along!" he called out, still can't believing he said Hiccup was right.
There was still no answer and the forest stayed as deathly silent as before.
"Just like a girl! Sulking somewhere and won't accept an apology," he said loudly hoping calling Hiccup a girl would earn him a response or at least a cheeky/sarcastic comment.
As he continued to look for Hiccup in the dense forest he heard a faint sound, sort of like jingling faint jingling, and maybe the clamping of hooves but it could have been his imagination.
He didn't move though curious to see what it was as it seemed to get louder, and louder, before he could react a white sleigh pulled by white reindeer appeared and Snotlout barely had enough time to dodge out of the way falling over as they passed they stopped as soon as they saw him though the driver that was yelling at the reindeer jumping off of the sleigh with a whip.
Doing the only thing he could Snotlout attempted to get up and run yet the small man with a large beard overtook him and whipped his legs causing him to fall over and pinning him down by his throat with a knife.
