Hiccup was currently crying into his Grandfather's clothes in the hallway, as Mrs. McCreedy turned down the hallway scolding them before realizing Digory was there and quickly relented as he had Mrs. McCreedy pour some hot chocolate for a sniffling Hiccup as they went into another room.
Dagur, Heather, and Astrid turned to walk away realizing Hiccup was with adults now and they didn't want the adults to know Hiccup most likely had gone batty nor did they want to explain the whole situation.
Unfortunately for them the Professor called them over to his workstation where he dipped his quill into the ink as he joked, "I see you have disrupted the delicate internal balance of my housekeeper,"
Not seeing this as a joke Heather explained, "I'm very sorry sir, it won't happen again," before trying to pull the others away from the Professor and out of the room.
Dagur spoke up though realizing that if the Professor really thinks that Hiccup had gone crazy he would have some way to fix it, afterall he was an adult right? Plus he was Hiccup's grandfather, "It's Hiccup sir, he's upset,"
"Hence the weeping,"
"Its-its nothing," said Heather trying to pull the others away in some vain attempt but Dagur was most larger than she was and Astrid sure knew how to stay in one place though she was making progress, "We can handle it,"
"I can see that,"
"He'e thinks he's found a magical land," Astrid continued, not catching the awed expression on the Professor's face knowing full well about Narnia but alas that's a story for another day,
"What did you say?" asked Digory wanting to make sure his ears didn't deceive him in his old age, he would have to take a look and see too after this but he remained with his calm composure sitting in his chair still writing something.
"The wardrobe, upstairs," said Heather knowing that she might as well contribute if her friends were dead set on telling the Professor, she never saw running to grownups as a good option usually especially on matters like this, her foster days leaving her mistrustful of grownups even relatives, they will just shove it off and have a good laugh and tell something and expect them all to follow it, "Hiccup thinks he's found a forest inside,"
"He won't stop talking about it,"
"What was it like?" inquired the Professor.
"Like talking to a lunatic," said Astrid bluntly shuffling in her seat.
"No no, no, no, not him, the forest!" said the Professor as the three kids turned to give him strange glances though they could see he was completely serious as he sat in his chair.
"You're not saying you believe him!?" said Astrid, shocked.
"And you dont?"
"Of course not! I mean, logically it's impossible," said Astrid with disbelief still written on her face as she sat upright in her chair wondering if the Old Man also lost his marbles, a wardrobe comes from trees not the other way around!
"What do they teach in schools these days," sighed the Professor, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Snotlout said they were just pretending," said Astrid, still not believing that this was in any way true, how could there be dimension hopping it just wasn't possible!
"And he's the usually more truthful one is he?" challenged the Professor knowing full well his grandson was not lying, and he also knew that Snotlout from his very unpleasant visits from him was always blaming Hiccup for stuff he did.
Astrid just shrugged, she didn't know Hiccup all that well, the only things she heard was from the other kids and Snotlout usually and they didn't always cast him in the best light. Actually scratch that they never cast him in the best light. A few times she had been on Hiccup's team in a game and it usually ended with her scorning him for half an hour after the game before he just walked home...
"No, this would be the first time…" trailed off Dagur shuffling in his seat a bit.
"Well if he's not mad, and he is not lying, then logically he must be telling the truth," he reasoned leaning closer to the children who were still baffled at such an explanation though they were still on board with the Hiccup's gone Mad as a Hatter idea.
"You're saying we should just believe him?" questioned Dagur.
"He's your friend isn't he?" asked the Professor as Astrid opened her mouth before closing it probably not the best thing to say no in this situation to said Grandfather of this child letting them stay in his house so she just nodded yes with the rest of them, they did get along most of the time sooo maybe it counts? "Then maybe you should start acting like them,"
"But what if after the events in the war Hiccup's mind sort of snapped," suggested Dagur getting that theory out there, it had happened to many of their ancestors and Dagur's and Heather's family werent exactly known for being in their right mind most of the time, their ancestors were from a tribe called the "Berserkers" afterall.
"Did he seem particularly broken when the bombs happened or directly after before you came here?"
"No…"
"Then perhaps its something else, perhaps it's not, but you have to be there for him either way," said the Professor, "And anyone can talk to him and see he isn't mad,"
"But then…" trailed off Heather tugging at her ponytail.
"For the moment then unless any further evidence turns up we must assume that he is telling the truth," he said still winning the awards for the most children looked at like a crazy old man award in this story, though they could see from his expression he was completely serious and was not trying to make fun of them.
"But how could it be true, sir?" said Dagur, doubtfully standing up and pacing, "If it was real why doesn't everyone find this country every time they go through the wardrobe? I mean, there was nothing there when we looked; Hiccup didn't even try to pretend there was something there,"
"What has that to do with it?" questioned the Professor honestly getting more worried about these three set down to earth people much like his child who never believed any of his tales that he and his wife, Polly, had told them. Believing wasn't seeing, it was well believing, it was faith. Of course there was always the counter argument saying if you don't draw the line somewhere then your just blindly following nothing. But then there is also the argument of just because you havent seen it doesnet mean it isent there.
"Well sir, if things are real, they're there all the time!"
"Are they?" he asked and Dagur didn't know how to respond to that, there was no way any of this was true, maybe the Old Man was just oblivious to Hiccup's faults and wanted desperately for his only grandson to be sane, he too was often blinded by Hiccup's faults whenever they happened.
"But there was no time," proclaimed Astrid proudly believing she brought up the subject that would prove their theory correct though it wasn't Supposed to be a competition, she was competitive by nature though, "There was not enough time for him to go anywhere, he said he was gone for hours and hours but there was no time for him to even get to "Narnia"
"That's the very thing that makes his story so likely to be true," explained the Professor tapping his chin thoughtfully, "If there really is a door in this house that leads to another world, I would not be surprised at all to find the two worlds having separate times, resulting in hours happening in that world yet nothing in this world, on the other hand I doubt most kids, though this is Hiccup we are talking about," continued the Professor though he did not say being a Hiccup in a mean way more of a proud, pleased way for his grandson to be so very special, "Would invent that idea all by themselves, and if he had been pretending, he would hide for a reasonable amount of time before coming out and telling their story,"
"But do you really mean sir that there could be other worlds, all over the place, just around the corner like that?"
"Nothing is more probable," said the Professor taking off his spectacles and cleaning them before standing up.
And that was the end of that conversation as the Old Professor hobbled out of the room to get Hiccup's side of the story, desperately wanting to know the world he had seen be created before his very own eyes, and also helped protect at one point.
I promise things will start to look up for Hiccup soon
