Capitol Punishment

It was an early day in Dallas—Six O'clock to be exact. It wasn't much of a busy day for the Special Forces. It was pretty normal as always at their central HQ.

"Hey Sonya, do you have a minute?"

"Not really, and that's Lieutenant Blade to you." Sonya smirked.

"That's right! Congratulations on the promotion!"

"Thanks, I appreciate it," She responded. "We can talk after I'm finished with my meeting with Sgt. Capitol. That cool with you?" The man nodded and smiled. Sonya returned the feeling as she continued down the hallways.

As she walked the halls, she kept reflecting on the faint blood stains that surrounded the room nearest to her office. The large patch in the wall beside it didn't help her any better. She could only think of the attack that occurred at the office years prior. What could've been her last day on Earth turned into a tragic miracle that indirectly saved her life. A red haired witch and a priestess was all it took for the Special Forces to begin their actual investigation of the Black Dragon's core members.

Once she made it to the end of the hall, she uses her key to enter her office. More like, her secret office. She slowly opened the door in an attempt to reduce the noise it would usually make. As she stepped inside, she closed the door just as quietly, albeit still not quite enough to prevent the sound.

"Hopefully, none of them heard that," Sonya commented. She turned around and looked at the two shadowy figures. She shook her head horizontally as she flicked the second pair of lights on. The two shadowy figures were revealed to be her second in command, Sgt. Capitol, as well as the Black Dragon member, Kano.

"Why did you turn the other pair of lights on?" Capitol asked.

"This isn't a game, Capitol. You know Fang would flip if he caught us here. We need to take this seriously," Sonya responded.

"I bet she's a joy to work with," Kano joked. Sonya gave him an evil glare then returned her attention to Capitol who could only shrug.

"Don't forget, Kano, you're only here to help us retrieve the other members of the Black Dragon, including their leader Kabal. Afterwards, you'll be getting your trial and the plea deal will be between you and the lawyer I hire to put you all in prison," Sonya explained.

"You're still gonna arrest me after I help you?" Kano questioned angrily.

"It's only because of Sgt. Capitol's trust in you that I still haven't put a bullet through you're skull," Sonya responded harshly. Kano folded his arms and pouted.

"I don't like this either, Sonya. But Kano is our best lead for finding the remaining five members," Sgt. Capitol responded.

"I know," Sonya groaned. She then returned her attention to Kano. "It's not like you have much of a choice, but you're gonna stay here until 11:00PM. If you even step you're foot out of this door, we'll light you up like a New Year Sky," Sonya threatened. Kano raised both of his hands in the air in a sarcastic scared motion.

"I'm not going anywhere," He stated.

Sonya continues to glare him in the eyes as she walked out of the room. Sgt. Capitol followed her as he pulled out his key. He proceeded to lock the room door as they were both outside of the room. Sonya prepares to return to her duties, but not before she high fives Sgt. Capitol for a job well done. Getting one of the members of the black dragon to snitch on the others required little to no effort with Capitol's connections.

There was never a time in Capitol's career where his connections to the underground didn't help during his investigations. Back when he was just a cop, he would always complain about the lack of crime. Not the lack of violent crime, however. He was always one for excitement, but never one for violence, which is why he decided to engage with the underground guys and keep their identities a secret from the rest of the force—and currently away from the Special Forces.

*20:34*

It was night. The faint blue was visible only by the brightness of the full moon. Members of the Special Forces camped outside of a fenced shipyard. Sgt. Capitol was leaning on the passenger side of the van. In the driver's seat was their advisor, Metric.

The two are part of Sonya's six man team. After the attack on the Special Forces office in Texas, the Government decided to form the six man team assigned to deal with organizations that have connections to natural and supernatural weapons of mass destruction. Although there are still some barriers that they cannot cross, they have the ability to create their own operations if they deem something to be a threat to the entirety of the US or the world.

Sonya was originally the leader of this team. However, she was demoted to the rank of Seargent and replaced by her former Lieutenant, Jackson Briggs, now Major Briggs, after being exposed for lying on her report about the attack from the blood witch. She claimed the woman escaped, but the fire and amount of blood left on the scene proved her story to be false, even without the body. That Sonya was arrogant. That Sonya was reckless. That Sonya was six years ago.

"I'm all set Major." Metric confirmed over the talkie.

"That's Lieutenant, Metric." Sonya responded.

"Still getting use to that, Ms. Blade." Metric responded.

"There's no need for formalities. Just remember why the three of us are here." She responded.

"We really should at least inform Major Briggs of our location incase this mission goes south." Capitol requested.

"Negative. He's our Major now, which means he's a priority over all of us, including me. Besides, we're all the backup we need." Sonya responded.

"It's your funeral." Capitol muttered.

"We've faced worse, Cap. Compared to witches, this should be a cakewalk." Sonya joked.

"Field of view is locked. Enemy locations are targeted. POI is marked. The rest is up to you." Metric detailed.

"Mask is active. Arc Boots adjusted to negative level one performance. Wrist Bands are active. Drone is on standby. I'm ready to deploy." Sonya responded in return.

"We have 180 seconds to go in and out. Make it clean." Metric stated.

"Bonus points for zero casualties." Capitol added.

"That's the plan afterall." Sonya muttered. The sounds of a cranking motorcycle are heard coming from the back of the van. The doors open, revealing a masked Sonya sitting atop of a motor cycle. She taps the timer on her wristband as well as the speedometer to adjust the max speed for the motorcycle to accelerate to.

Upon activation of the speed calculator, the Sonya takes off. She drives up a ramp the takes her across the fence. Upon landing on the ground, she drives straight forward. 17 seconds in, she drives towards a warehouse. One of the mercs guarding the door to the warehouse trains his assault rifle on her. She calls her drone to fire a missile towards the second floor of the warehouse, which provokes the merc to move out of the way. As the merc retrains his gun, Sonya tosses magnetic handcuffs towards the merc's hands, forcing him to the nearby light pole. Sonya uses her arc boots to propel her into the second floor hole.

As she lands, she notices the 4 mercs below and the two on the upper platform with her. They train their attention on her and begin to fire their weapon. Sonya drops a shock grenade onto the ground below and rushes to the other side of the warehouse. She fires her pistol at the two guards on the same platform as her with rubber bullets. Although the bullets didn't cause any real damage to the men, they distracted them in enough time to allow Sonya to jump out of the building's window. The two mercs rush to the broken window and train their weapons onto Sonya once more. However, her drone locks onto the men and immobilizes them with sticky shockers.

Sonya perfectly lands onto her motorcycle and drives along the path beside the docks. She surveys each ship to find the one in which her POI should be located.

"Remember, it's the ship with the Dragon Wings." Metric radioed. Sonya continued to survey the ships. She spotted one that fits the description; however there was a bigger ship that also had a similar design. This ship was more of a cruise ship—elegant in design and color. It was spotless compared to every other ship, as if it were recently built.

"58 Seconds in. I've spotted two ships to fit the description. One looks fairly new."

"The ship that was described to me had been around for decades, but it was the only ship of its kind." Capitol confirmed.

"Is it possible that they've built a new one?"

"I'm not entirely sure how long it takes to build a cruise ship, but I'm pretty sure it takes longer than the amount of time I gathered that info. It HAS to be the other ship." Capital responded.

"Okay," Sonya said, trusting his instinct. She slowly creeps into the corner marked by Metric and parks her motorcycle. She looks around ensuring no one else was present. The rest of the dock seemed empty. She taps the communicator on her wrist. "No one else is here."

"I see," Metric said. "Capitol should be arriving behind you." Sonya looked back and saw him walking up behind her.

"How did you—"

"Never underestimate my speed, Sonya," Capitol said. "Metric, were going dark. You know what to do if things go south."

"Roger that you two. Be careful in there," he said before cutting off his com. Capitol laid his hand on Sonya's shoulder as they walked toward the entrance of the boat.

"It's almost over," he sighed. Remember, bonus points for no casualties. But weapons free with these guys. They're no joke."

"I know. I'm hoping I can finish them off. Kano will lose any chance of getting his plea deal."

"But you'll also lose out on getting your rank back."

"I'll be fine. Once they're taken care of, it'll be smooth sailing towards retirement. I say that's much better." The two of them enter the boat and pull out their weapons.

"I hear that," Capitol responded.

The two made a clean sweep of the many rooms on the ship before coming to an area that looked like a cafeteria. It was dark, an obvious ambush. The door leading to the outside slammed shut. Sonya cursed under her breath and steps into the cafeteria. Capitol tries to stop her, but he's too late as the lights in the cafeteria came on. The two of them were in awe. Before them were the other five remaining members of the Black Dragon clan: No Face, Jarek, Tremor, Tasia, & Kabal. Sonya could consistently memorize each of their faces, as well as their dossiers. She was slightly amused by their presence, as well as frightened by it. She exercised her fingers on both her knife and her pistol. She desired nothing more than to take away the threat of the Black Dragon once and for all.

Tasia strikes first as she rushes Sonya's right side. Sonya attempts to slash at Tasia with her knife, but she's pulled away by Sgt. Capitol. Lucky for her, he quickly saw Tasia's attempt to slash Sonya's side open with a suicidal attempt at swinging her sword. Capitol uses the butt of his rifle to knock Tasia's Sword away from her hand. He quickly readjusts his rifle in a firing position as he aims for her cheek. Her body jerked in an unnatural motion as he shot his rifle with a 3-round burst.

No Face rolls a flash bang towards the group, prompting the others to move away. Sonya instinctively kicked the flashbang back towards No Face and upon detonation, she covered her ears and closed her eyes. She could feel her body vibrating as the loud ring in her ears drowned out the fighting that was still going on around her. As she slowly opened her eyes, in her daze she could see Sgt. Capitol bloodied. He fired off numerous shots into who knows, but the individual still stood as if nothing happened. He was kicked in the legs from behind and found himself kneeling with the man standing behind him.

As her vision cleared, she saw her Sergeant bruised, battered, and bloodied. Standing behind him, was Kano. Sonya immediately stood up but before she could raise her pistol, she felt the skin on her neck breaking as two hookswords were wrapped around it. All it takes is one pull by either hand for Kabal to take her head. Sonya wondered how he appeared behind her when she just saw him...beside the woman who was bleeding profusely.

"Still haven't caught on Sonya?" Kano laughed. She was still frozen with her teeth clenched as she grew anxious with the blades surrounding her neck. Kano walked infront of them both before focusing his attention towards Capitol. The man looked up to Kano, one eye shut with the other scrunched closely to her nose. Kano grinned showing all 31 as one tooth was gone.

"Capitol buddy! I'm sorry things turned out like this, but business is business."

"How...did I…" Capitol gurgled as he tried to speak.

"Trust me, we were pals of course. I didn't know you worked for the ol' Special Forces. Well, not until you mentioned it anyway," he said.

"This is how you treat your pals? You put your allies in danger to lure us out?" Sonya questioned, trying whatever effort she could to bring a sense of doubt into the minds of his allies. She felt Kabal's hookswords lax on her neck at that moment.

"No, to lure you out," he clarified as he waved his finger towards her. "Ya see, Capitol's been keeping track of my guys while I kept track of his. There was always only those you see here. We used your soldiers to hit the locations of our competitors for years now, and you lot chalked them up to be Black Dragon." he chuckled. "I was just gonna leave you all behind after our stunt with Rojack, but then we were given an offer we couldn't refuse. We just needed you."

"The Black Dragon died with Rojack! You six are the only ones left. If we died, the full force of the Special Forces will rain down on you all. You'll never stand a chance."

"Sonya baby," Kano began, "you're not even remotely interested in who hired me?"

"Someone else you'd betray just like us," Sonya looked to Capitol as he continued to gurgle his words. Kano also gets distracted by it.

"I can't stand to look at ya like this Capitol," Kano said regretfully.

He raises his pistol to the man's head and the crackle of the weapon spooked Sonya. The man's body jerked in an awkward manner and his armed twitched until he stiffened. Sonya could barely react as her body grew numb. The red strain in her eyes was apparent to everyone. The room was silent, and Kano was agitated by it.

"That's it? I was expecting you to cry or whatnot."

"I'll kill you," Sonya muttered. She whipped her head up and stared into Kano's eyes. "I'LL KILL YOU!" The blades from Kabal scraped her neck at the same time.

"Quit your whinin', Sonya," he laughed. "You'll join 'em real soon." Sonya's looks past Kano's head and notices a purplish glow hovering beside No Face's head, Fortune did not shine upon him that day as he stood behind the others and thus was the easiest to approach unannounced. Two hands slammed against the sides of his head, eventually meeting one another just above the man's neck. The loud crackle of the attack alerted everyone else, but they were to late in seeing the man; Major Jackson Briggs. He picks up the body of No Face and tosses it between mercenaries.

"Sonya, get down!" A bullet passes Jax's head and strikes the propane tank on No Face's back. A large explosion rocks the vessel, but no visible damage was present on it. Sonya lift herself from the ground and looks towards the group. To her surprise, they were alive and unscathed. Four crystalized structures were present away from them. She had not seen what happened, but Metric did as he appeared from the shadows. As Jax threw No Face toward the group, Kabal and Tasia made quick work of him with their bladed weapons. With his body split in four, Kabal quickly ran around the room separating his body parts. The one thing Metric didn't know was the make up of his propane tanks as No Face planned for the day something like that would be used against his allies. The real triggers would not set off until seconds after, fast enough for Kabal to move him away and fast enough for Tremor to encase his carcass in crystallized material like that which was present on the ship.

"What are they?" Sonya muttered to herself as she touched her sore neck. Kabal was just there, but now he's not. The records they had said nothing of their powers. The stories were starting to make sense. At first, she thought it could've been the attack by the red witch that influence their thinking of the supernatural, but she knows that wasn't the case. Not anymore. Jarek's eyes were glowing red as he stared at Jax. Sonya whips her pistol from the ground and shoots his directly in his right eye. He immediately falls over, deceased on impact. Kano steps back.

"Tasia might be immortal, but I sure ain't," Kano quiped. "Kabal get us outta here!"

"You got it, boss," he said before dashing off. Before Sonya knew it, the surviving members had vanished from the room.

"NO!" she hollered as she slammed her foot on the ground. "They cannot leave this boat!"

"Sonya!" Jax yelled. "They're gone already. It's no way we can catch up to them."

"You didn't even try, Major!" she snapped.

"Calm down," Jax demanded quietly but firmly. "Now."

"Calm down?" she muttered. "Calm down." Sonya contemplated on his words. She traced her steps backwards. Not only here, not only the docks. She traced it weeks before when The black dragon first attacked the compound. The Red witch was the one responsible for the deaths of the Black Dragon clan. She sided with neither of them. Sonya made a brash decision to attack the woman on multiple occasions, against the better judgment of the others. In the aftermath of it all, she lied to her superiors. She was willing to put the entire organization at risk for the sake of killing the woman. Kano and his allies had to have been there that day. Something must've happened between that day and today that gave them their powers. Had I rationalized the situation instead, maybe I would've seen this coming. Kano didn't lead us here for his own sake. He knew we'd never be able to take them on by ourselves. We could've used any information available on the Red Witch to figure out how she was able to do the things she did. Maybe then, we'd be able to counter any similar powers someone might use in the future.

"We gotta get off the boat," Jax said as he placed his hand on Sonya's Shoulder. She snapped back to reality and looked up at him. She then looked at Capitol's lifeless body. Her face was almost as red as the blood stuck to her skin. She walks away coldly, shaking and holding herself. As she walks onto the dock, she looks over at the other Cruise ship. The symbol of a dragon and a date listed as October 8, 1992 stood out to her.

"Jax," she mumbled.

"This is no time to break down lieutenant," he responded directly. Sonya's face warmed up and her skin was not as red anymore. She pointed to the date on the boat.

"No time for us, at least," she said, this time showing the whites on her teeth. "The only slip up Capitol made was believing this ship was the Black Dragon's base of operations. We read reports that the real ship is decades old and this other ship was too new to be so old, but its also not possible for the ship to be built in such a short period of time. What if Kano actually told us the truth?"

"Coping doesn't help solve the problem, Sonya," Jax said. Especially not by agreeing with the likes of him."

"That's where you're wrong, Major. Even if Kano lied about helping us, why is it that the only ones with powers were the remaining 6 and not the other henchmen?" Jax seemed confused as he didn't see the other henchmen.

"I tell you what. We'll get all the reports, including the deals and conversations you've had behind my back, and if everything lines up, we'll both investigate the ship the day before."

"We need to do more than investigate, Jax. You know this too."

"One step at a time, Sonya," he said. Sonya nodded and took a deep breath.

"Even a clock is right twice a day as they say."

End of Story 1

Welcome to my new Mortal Kombat Anthology titled Lost Files: MK. This is just one of many stories I plan to release whenever I feel like making something more creative or experimental compared to my other stories. I have a few planned to be released throughout the coming months. Some are chapters cut from previous stories and others are stories that stand on their own. Some stories will connect to other stories, but it isn't necessary to read one story in order to understand another (except the next story which heavily references Redemption: MK). I hope you all enjoy the ride.

(Note: Stories will be labeled as Parody, Semi-Canon, or non-canon for your reading pleasure)
