Summary: Kushina died during the Sealing of Kurama. She figured that she would be in the pure lands and wait for her son as she knew that Minato would never be allowed in the pure-lands for using the Reaper Death Seal. Only Kushina didn't go to the Pure Lands. She was stuck in the land of Mortals tethered to Naruto, never allowed to be more than five miles from him, protecting him.
Every fight was randomized. I couldn't make them up if I tried. Also sorry for the wait. Life is a beach at the best of times and I've been busy as hell.

Chapter 2: Prelims part 1
Location: Konoha
Place: Forest of Death- Central tower
Time: Early morning
Uzumaki Naruto was NOT in a good mood at the moment. The Blond with red streaks in his hair -after that snake asshole messed with his chakra-and sapphire blue eyes, was livid at the moment. More so because of his teammates Uchiha Sasuke the Prodigal Son and Last 'Loyal Uchiha' and Haruno Sakura the daughter of civilian council Haruno Kizashi a former Rival to the Fourth Hokage and Haruno Mebuki, the Leader of the Courtesans and was known as the Ninja Geisha. Not to mention that Hatake Kakashi the (in)famous shinobi was their Jonin instructor.
The reason for his rage was because of the 'plan' that Sasuke had come up with. The plan had been simple, but it was filled with so many holes his apartment was in better shape. Sasuke was to take possession of their Heaven Scroll. They would then run straight through the forest and take up residence near the tower and ambush the teams as they came close. Conserving energy for a while allowing his lap dog Sakura to follow without even listening to Naruto's idea of hunting down their opponents. While he may not have seemed like it Naruto had some skills with tracking, thanks to Iruka-sensei.
Not even 30 minutes into the forest and Naruto was attacked by an ame genin that thought that he would be easy pray and use him as bait to get Sasuke and Sakura to rescue him. All he found was an exploding clone and a sword that nearly took off his head. Sadly, for Naruto he didn't have the scroll and would be useless as a hostage. Naruto stole everything of value from him, tied him up, and returned to his team.
Following that Sakura came up with a STUPIDLY long code that would reveal if they were teammates or separated from each other? WHY!? Why not just ask things that only their academy class would know? Who Is Sakura's best friend, who was the Rookie of the year from the year previous? What was the name of KIBA'S SISTER! Hell, every boy in their class had a crush on the Hana! But no, it had to be complicated for no damn reason.
Following that they were attacked by a powerful wind justu that sent him flying away from his teammates. Naruto got attacked by a freakishly large snake, even by the Forest of Death standards. Hell Even Anko's snakes were not that big. Naruto threw two exploding shuriken at its heat pits. The shurkien hit true allowing Naruto to run away or at least try to run away. He was stopped as the snake turned to his and lunged at him swallowing him whole. Naruto had actually been forced to use his sword and the Konoha Hidden sword Style: Dance of the moon.
After cutting the snake in half, Naruto used his negative Emotion sensing to quickly find Sasuke and Sakura. Rushing to where they were he found them fighting some chick from the Hidden grass Village. Of course, the way the chick was beating Sasuke's ass. He was concerned for his teammate and quickly interfered. Together, Naruto and Sasuke managed to push her back with a combination of exploding shadow clones, transformation jutsu, and Naruto's sword skills.
When it looked like they grievously injured or killed her they had planned to move on, but a wave of pure killing intent stopped the three genin in the tracks. It was worse than when they had faced off with Zabuza. Zabuza radiated blood lust and battle mania, but this... this was just Hell. The woman then attacked Naruto and Sasuke, before hitting Naruto with five purple flaming fingers. At that point Naruto passed out and didn't regain conciseness until AFTER the fight with the Trio of Genin from the Sound village.
Apparently, the trio was strong enough to put a beating on Sakura, Team 10, and Rock Lee, a close friend of Naruto's from the previous graduating class. His fellow Dead Last. Then Team 7 took the next two days to recover and only headed to the tower at the last second. Oh and he almost forgot had to FIND A DAMN HEAVEN SCROLL ON TOP OF IT ALL!
On the way to the tower, they ran into their silver-haired senpai Kabuto who had 4 years' experience on them. A medical Nin if Naruto understood his skill set correctly. From there they got into a brawl with the group from Ame. Barely managing to scrape out a victory. Team 7 and Kabuto then met with Kabuto's team, before they went, they were met by Iruka and told that they managed to beat the second exam with barely a moment to spare.
Now here they were listening to the third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen explained how the chunin exams were a substitute for war which honestly made no sense to Naruto. If the Chunin exams were really a substitute for war then why were Iwa, Kumo, and several lesser villages excluded from Konoha's Chunin exams. Then again the villages there were currently here were major allies of Konoha with Ame and Oto as neutral villages. He knew that Mizu was either in a civil war or the war was just ending thanks to Zabuza and were unable to enter, but this was another matter altogether.
While all this was going though Naruto's mind Sarutobi had been interrupted by Yugao's boyfriend and Naruto's second sword Sensei Hayate Gekko. Hayate then explained the entire third phase of the Chunin Exams. A one-on-one battle tournoment. The problem was that there were to many people for a propur tournament since the finals of the Chunin exam only had 3 days to do it in.
Round 1: Yamanaka Ino vs Hyuga Hinata
Ino yelped in joy. Not only was she in the 1st round she was taking on Hinata. Sure, Hinata came from a clan like Ino, but Ino had only lost Kunoichi of the year because Sakura had better grades then her. When it came to ninjutsu, genjutsu, and Kunai and Shurikien throwing Ino had had top grades in those categorizes among the Kunoichi of her class. Hinata was no match for her in a fight
Hinata looked at Ino as they stood across from each other and took a breath as she looked up at Naruto. The person she admired more then anyone. The one person who she wanted to catch up to. Taking her family's stance she prepared to fight and win. To prove herself to the man that she admired. The man she wanted to catch up too.
Hayate looked at the two girls before he dropped his hand.
"Begin,"
Ino pulled out three kunai and throw them at Hinata. Hinata covered her hands in a thin protective chakra armor and knocked all three kunai away. Before charging in. Ino was shocked at Hinata's speed and barely managed to bring her hands up in time to block the attack, but Hinata course-corrected and hit Ino in the stomach.
"Gentle fist: Revolver shot!" said Hinata twisting her palms while unleashing a blast of foreign chakra into Ino's gut.
Ino's eyes widened in pain as she throws up clear bile, before she passed out Hinata allowed Ino to fell to the ground.

Round 2: Abumi Zaku vs Uzumaki Karin/Kushina
Naruto's eyes widened as he looked at the girl who shared his last name. Was she... Family?
Zaku glared at Kushina as they stood across from each. He had no designs on her and he really wanted to get his hands on the pink-haired bitch and Uchiha. She may have been part of Orochimaru-sama's recon group, but Zaku was sure to get into the Elite forces of the Sound Ninja if he played his cards correctly.
Zaku pulled his right arm free and flexed it. While he was in pain, it was nothing so long as he had his air cutters.
Kushina took a stance and drew two kunai while flipping them backward.
Hayate looked between them. "Begin
Kushina rushed at Zaku as he aimed his hand at her. Kushina throws the kunai in her right hand Forcing Zaku to move or be hit by it. Kushina appeared in his blind spot.
"Wind Release: Air saber!" thought Kushina as she thrust the blade forward. Unleashing a gale force of wind from the blade.
Zaku moved to the side, but his right arm and left leg were ripped to ribbons. Zaku fell to his knees in pain as he was bleeding severely.
"Due to incapacitation, the Winner is Uzumaki Karin,"
As she did this Kakashi looked at the Karin girl and couldn't help but remember Kushina-onee and how she used that move several times.
Round 3: Hyuga Neji vs Inuzuka Kiba
Neji raised a brow at Kiba, before he walked down to the arena and stood waiting for Kiba to come down. Being the brash young man, he was Kiba jumped down and looked at Neji.
Neji looked at Kiba and his dog and felt nothing for them. They were not worthy of the position of Chunin. Fate had already deemed him the winner of the match.
Barely a second after Hayate said begin Neji was on top of Kiba beating him within a few moments of the match starting.
Round 4: Higarashi Tenten vs Tsukemono
Tenten smiled as she jumped into the ring to face off with the short man. Who was swaying back and forth? Hayate looked between the groups before he gave them the signal to begin.
Tenten started strong by throwing Kunai at the man, but the man just hopped from one location to another with Tenten missing each attack. Finally, Tenten smirked as he looked around.
"You fell for my trap," said Tenten.
"What trap you stupid little bitch!?" asked the man.
Tenten blushed as she held up her hands each one having an ignition ring on them. Tsukemono looked around and finally noticed the wires dripping with oil and the kunai that had explosive tags on them.
"Give up or boom boom bye," said Tenten.
"Proctor I forfeit," said Tsukemono.
"Winner Higirashi Tenten,"
Round 5: Tsurugi Misumi vs Haruno Sakura
Sakura tried psyching herself up as she made her way down to the arena floor to take on Kabuto-senpai's teammate. Sakura looked at him and didn't see anything too impressive. Aside from the glasses he wore the same clothes as Kabuto and had a mouth cover. Sakura was sure that she could beat him easily. She was Kunoichi of the years after all. The strongest Kunoichi in her class.
Misumi looked at Sakura and gave a bow. "Forgive me Haruno-san, but I'm not going to allow you to leave here with a victory," said Misumi.
Sakura drew her Kunai and held it out in front of her. "Sorry Senpai, but I can't afford to lose here," said Sakura.
Hayate looked between them, before rising his hand. "Begin," said Hayate.
Sakura threw her kunai at Misumi, who moved out of the way as Sakura charged at him. Sakura made the hand signs for clones and made three clones. Each of those clones started running through hand signs. Hand signs Sasuke recognized
"Fire Release: Fireball jutsu!" yelled Sakura as the clone on the right fired off a small fireball.
Misumi jumped into the air and throw a kunai at the Sakura on the right, only for the kunai to go through it. A clone. Misumi turned to the middle Sakura and looked down, before turning to the left and thrusting out his foot, catching Sakura in the stomach and sending her flying with enough force to knock the wind out of her. Sakura coughed gasping for air, but Misumi didn't let up as he rushed Sakura and wrapped her up like a boa constrictor, and began to squeeze the air out of it
The winner was Misumi
Round 6: Rerisshu vs Youri
Rerisshu stood across from the black glasses-wearing member of Team Kabuto and intended to move forward. Rerisshu smirked as he got into a low stance. Just as Hayate said Begin Youri charged at him Rerisshu raised his hand and pulled out his umbrella, before putting it above his head.
"Poison Release: Acid Rain!" yelled Rerisshu opened his mouth and unleashed a purple mist into the air before purple droplets began to fall.
Hayate jumped out of the way and onto the statue in the center of the room.
Youri yelled in pain as the droplets hit his body. He was not going to make it at this point and needed an avenue of escape. Rushing to the side he didn't get far as a sword found its way into his chest.
Winner: Rerisshu.
Naruto looked on at the unreal power of many of the people who had just fought, and from what he could see most of the heavy hitters hadn't even fought yet. In less than an hour over half the genin had been eliminated from the Chunin exams. In the first half of the third round Prelims had finished.

And cut. Sorry for the long wait. But I REALLY hate doing the Chunin exam. It's one of the hardest parts of Naruto to write for. Hopefully, the next chapter won't take as long. Later.
