Title: Love On The Run
Author: Radiorox
Summary: Falsely accused of murder, Harm's appeal is taken over by a new laywer, Mac. When Harm is sentenced to death, Mac's only option is to help him escape.
AN: This is completely inspired by CB's new movie on Lifetime named Jailbreak Lovers but with a JAG twist and no dogs. In this one Harm was arrested for Diane's murder, has been locked up for a couple of years. All of his legal team have quit until Chegwidden orders JAG's rising star - Mac - to work on his appeal.
They start to notice a connection and when it seems that Harm will be freed an incident sentences him to death so Mac's only option is to break him out and join him on the run.
I thank Elsi for the idea and the screen caps!
And Darcey for pushing me to write crazy stories. ;-)
Prologue:
Wearing a military uniform had always held great pride. The stripes at his sleeve provided respect and denoted the rank that he strived so hard to achieve through hard work and grit. It was not a simple stitching of fibers to create a jacket. It was his armor.
Every brave knight needed coverings to protect the body during battle and this was the greatest fight of his life. The armor was threatened to be ripped away for a crime he should have committed.
Yes, should have because the murdered woman had played with too many hearts and lost in the most tragic way. He was just another fool caught in her spell who confused a strong infatuation with love.
So what if she wrote to him weekly and he responded in kind? Her letters were never romantic and just the musings derived from months at sea. His prose, on the other hand, was deemed obsessive. Constantly showering with praises and imagery of love, culminating with plans to spend the weekend together and further their relationship.
He wanted a future, a commitment. She wanted advancement, a career. Female officers in the military had to give their all and then some while trying to navigate the stormy waters of a male driven World.
A weekend she could do.
It was the only promise that Lt. Diane Shonke would make to Lt. Commander Harmon Rabb, Jr, a former lover she more or less dated when in port. And it was that promise that would put Harm at the top of a short list of suspects - a jilted lover who killed out of jealousy.
The prosecution had an open and shut case. Harm's letters were found to be damning and combined with what his peers called an 'obsessive personality,' the conviction was simple.
"Guilty." On all counts.
From behind him Harm heard his mother scream and on the opposite side came the relieved sobs from Diane's mother and father. Her murder was avenged even if it meant an innocent man would die in jail.
Harm would stoically remove his uniform for the final time, neatly folding and placing each piece on the table before him; the shiny metal of his goldwings gleaming in the incandescent light.
Guilty, though he wasn't and now he had to spend the rest of his life locked up with the men he'd put away. His degradation had begun.
