NOTES
CastroGamer: Thank you so much for your comment! I'm so happy that you like this! Here's the next chapter for you!
Zet4: Yeah, it is pretty sad that they died. But if they hadn't then there wouldn't be much of a story. Hope you're enjoying this so far. : )
WARNING: There will be swearing. Also a few descriptions of blood and gore.
Kimestu No Yaiba belongs to our lord and savior Koyoharu Gotouge. I can only hope to have thought of this majestic piece of art. The only things I own are Hana and every change she makes to the time-line, as well as the phone I am writing this on because I have no access to a computer.
I hummed to myself as I waited in the back of the cave. Tanjiro and I had been traveling all night until the sun finally started to come up.
When Tanjiro had left to get the basket from that one farmer, I had made sure to crawl to the very back of the cave. Right now I was just inspecting my claws, admiring the pretty colors. I still didn't like how they sort of resembled Kibutsuji's, but I didn't really mind much anymore.
My head shot up as I heard faint footsteps heading towards the mouth if the cave. I narrowed my eyes for a moment before recognizing the familiar beating of Tanjiro's heart. When he made it to the mouth of the cave I smiled and waved at him. He smiled back and told me he was going to fix up the basket so I could hide in it. I nodded at him and went back to examining my demon features.
I was toying with a strand of my hair, my mind wandering to the many hot men and women in this Universe, (Specifically a Flame-Breathing Hashira and two Upper-Six Siblings) when Tanjiro walked into the cave. He told me he wanted to try and travel during the day and that he wanted me to try and fit inside the basket he had fixed up. I nodded and decided I would try my hand at the cute little thing that Nezuko did when she entered the basket.
I heard Tanjiro chuckle a bit and I knew I had succeeded in my mission. I gave myself a pat on the back for my accomplishment and continued to try and stuff myself inside the basket.
I focused on growing smaller and before I knew it, my body had shrunk to that of a toddler and I was able to stuff myself entirely inside of the basket.
"Good job, Hana-Nee-san! Good job!" Tanjiro said, patting my head as I sat up, holding my knees to my chest (Which had gotten considerably bigger ever since I grew in size when I accidentally attacked Tanjiro and had never shrunken back down. Which I found to be odd, but honestly I wasn't complaining. Was it the only thing that didn't change size when I did? The world may never know.) and gave him a close-eyed smile.
'Now if only this had happened when I was in the Twenty-first century, that would have been hilarious!' I thought, 'Wait, would it?'
"Thank you, Oni-chan." I said softly, swiping away at the thoughts and opening my royal-blue orbs to look into Tanjiro's beautiful redish-pink eyes.
"Ok, we are going to start traveling during the day, hence the basket, so then we can get to Mount Sagiri faster." He said, pointing at the basket and then outside the cave as he continued. "When the sun sets I will let you out of the basket so we can travel together. Does that sound ok?"
I nodded and smiled at him again as he smiled at me. He grabbed a large cloth and asked me if it was ok if he put it over the basket so I wouldn't get burned by the sunlight, I nodded in response and he started tying the cloth over the basket like a tarp.
After a while I felt the ground leave me and could tell that Tanjiro had put on the basket. I hummed to myself in the darkness, it was a favorite of mine from my world. It was "Come Little Children" from the movie "Hocus Pocus" although the version I was singing was the version made by another person that I had forgotten the name of.
After a while I became a bit tired and decided it would be nice to take a nap. I closed my eyes and fell asleep quicker than I thought I would.
I stayed asleep for what felt like minutes before Tanjiro started to wake me up. I groaned in protest but got out of the basket and onto the ground nonetheless. Tanjiro sighed and I looked up at him from my spot on the ground.
"I know you must be tired Hana, but we need to keep moving. And you're going to ruin your kimono doing that." I stopped mid-roll on the ground and sighed as I hopped up onto my feet and took Tanjiro's hand.
As we walked, I made sure to keep an eye on my surroundings, trying to spot the temple.
'Ok, somehow you have to make sure the blood doesn't distract you and you need to get rid of that weird looking demon as soon as possible. Hey, maybe I should give him a name? But what should it be?' I thought to myself. I smiled determinedly as we continued to walk.
It was then that I noticed the sky.
I stopped in my tracks for a moment and Tanjiro noticed my sudden disappearance from his side. He tilted his head and looked up to where I was looking. I could hear his confused 'Hmm' and his movement of turning to look at me again.
"Hana, what are you looking at?" Tanjiro asked softly, waiting patiently for my answer.
I closed my eyes and took a deep, refreshing breath of air through my nose. He stood there, and I could hear him blink.
"The stars, Tanji. I'm looking at the stars, and enjoying the smell of the fresh air and Pines." I said softly, my eyes not opening as I took another deep breath.
"But, why?" He asked, I opened my eyes slowly and turned my gaze to him. I smiled at him and he smiled back.
"The stars tell stories Tanji. They tell us things about ourselves that we wouldn't have known before. They make us realize how amazing life truly is, and all we have to do is stop and look for a while." I said, walking up to him and grabbing his hand again. "Anyways, let's get going. We don't want to make Urokodaki-san wait longer than he has to."
Tanjiro smiled again and we started to walk, the sound of our breathing and the crunching of dirt and rocks under our feet the only thing we could hear.
A few minutes later, we came across a temple. THE TEMPLE. As Tanjiro stopped to examine it, I let go of his hand and shuffled through my haori to find what I was looking for. I gripped the bamboo tightly and put it against my mouth, I tied the ribbons behind my head and under my hair and made sure they were tight.
It felt weird, but I would need to keep it on as a precaution, wouldn't want to accidentally eat any dead people. Tanjiro paid barely any mind to what I was doing as he noticed the scent of blood in the air.
He gripped my hand again and sprinted to the temple. His heartbeat speeding up just slightly as he roughly slid the shoji door to the side.
"Are You Alri-" The words died on his lips as he took in the scene before him, his heartbeat speeding up so much that it would make a Hummingbird jealous.
I tried my best to keep my eyes away from the scene in front of me, but my morbid sense of curiosity got the better of me and I ended up looking anyway. As soon as I did though, I ended up taking a sharp breath of air that I regretted immediately. I could feel my stomach churning as my demon senses kicked in and made the stench of blood so deliciously pungent that I felt lightheaded and nauseated. My legs gave out beneath me and I clamped a hand to the bamboo over my mouth.
"What?! Hey! This... Is My territory! Get away from my feeding ground!" The demon said, I had to swallow the vomit that had entered my mouth as he licked away the blood on his fingers. My eyes were wide and my grip on Tanjiro's hand tightened so much that he winced just slightly. Then the demon got a contemplative look on his face before he continued speaking. "Hmm...? Somethings wrong here. Are you two Human?"
Just then, he leaped at Tanjiro and I could feel the air wooshing beside me as he was sent out of the temple. I scratched at my face and could feel the thin cuts I was making and immediately stopped myself. I shook my head and tried to clear my mind.
"A Hatchet?! Ha! Ha Ha! Not Bad. But a wound like this... Will heal in no time! See? The bleeding already stopped!" I could hear the taunting voice of the demon, ('I'm gonna call him Chi! ') behind me and could smell the disgusting odor of his blood. His seemed to be different from the blood of the humans he had spilt. His smelt like fresh garbage, while the people he had killed had blood that smelt like... Well, regular blood.
I was pulled away from my thoughts as I heard him slam Tanjiro to the ground.
"You'll never do that again! I'm gonna snap your neck."
'Aw HELL TO THE NO! ' I swiftly stood up and sprinted as fast as I could to the demon and kicked his head away from Tanjiro angrily. It slammed into a tree and made a large dent and cracking noise. After a few seconds, the same tree made some cracking noises as it fell backwards. I took a deep breath and glared at Chi's head while Tanjiro looked up at me with wide and terrified eyes.
"H... Hana!" He said after a few moments of silence, at the same time Chi's hand tried to grab his head and I kicked the Bitch's body away. It knocked into another tree, but didn't make a dent, most likely because I hadn't gotten a running start that time.
Tanjiro turned to the body with fear in his eyes as I gently untied the muzzle and placed it back into my haori. I blinked and could feel something changing in my eyes, but before I could question it I was interrupted by Chi's yelling.
"Why Youuu...! I Knew It! One Of You Is A Demon! Something Didn't Seem Right! What are a Demon and a Human doing together?!" He screamed angrily, Tanjiro's face somehow became even more terrified at how he was able to speak.
"It's because he's my brother, bastard." I said, instead of using Japanese though, I spoke using English. The words felt weird on my tongue after years of Japanese, but it felt good to say nonetheless.
"Your Brother?" Chi questioned, I was taken aback by this and I was about to say something before his body came crashing into me.
Tanjiro gasped and stood up as he grabbed the hatchet again. Positioning it to swing at Chi's body.
"STOP!" He yelled. He was about to hit Chi's shoulder when his head came crawling at him.
I didn't have time to focus on them and turned my attention to the should-be corpse attacking me. I was about to slash him with my claws but was stopped as he grabbed my haori and kimono and threw me into the forest.
I let out a gasp of pain as my back slammed into a tree and I clutched at my chest as I felt my organs get tossed around. I wasn't given a second to recover as a foot came crashing onto my skull. I let out a yelp of pain as I was thrown again and slammed my head into the ground. I winced and heard Chi's body coming in for another attack, this time I was able to block his foot from slamming into my skull by using my arm.
"KNOCK IT OFF!" Tanjiro yelled as he rammed into the body and almost fell off a cliff. I quickly grabbed the back of his haori and watched as Chi's body fell to the bottom of the cliff.
I pulled him up and immediately brought him to my chest and wrapped my arms around him tightly, he may have been taller than me (Which made it a little uncomfortable.) but I didn't care at the moment as I ran my fingers through his hair and placed a comforting kiss on his forehead. I smiled at him and stood up, gripping his hand tightly as I walked back to the temple.
I stopped in front of the tree that Chi was confined to and let go of Tanjiro's hand. I looked around for a moment before walking over to a very large rock.
I paused when I heard an unfamiliar heartbeat accompanied by the sound of soft breathing and even softer footsteps. I realized that it was Urokodaki-san and continued to pick up the rock.
"You can't kill it with that." I heard the gruff voice of Urokodaki say as I stood and turned to walk back over to Tanjiro.
"H... How can I finish it off?" He asked, holding a small blade in his hand. I stood next to him and he turned to me. I grabbed the blade out of his hand and gave him the rock. He looked at me curiously and I smiled sadly at him.
"You have to crush his head, Tanji. Otherwise it will burn and die from the sun." I said, feeling Urokodaki's gaze on me from behind his mask, I then turned to him and bowed slightly. "I apologize for interfering with your test, Urokodaki-san. I know you wanted Tanjiro to figure it out himself, but I just wanted to help."
"...It is fine." He answered softly, probably confused on how I knew what he was doing. He turned to Tanjiro again and I heard him open his mouth to speak. "As I was going to say before your sister gave you that helpful item, don't trust what others say. You must solve this riddle yourself."
Tanjiro nodded and turned to Chi's head before pausing again. I could hear Urokodaki's soft sigh of exasperation and could tell he was thinking.
After a few minutes, I saw a small bit of light filtering through the trees, which caused my royal-blue orbs to widen as I sprinted as fast as I could back into the temple and into the basket. Simultaneously shrinking myself to fit in it. I pulled the cloth over the top of it just as the sun rose entirely.
I winced and covered my ears as I heard Chi's screams of pain as he disintegrated. As they finally stopped, I noticed that I couldn't smell the blood of the corpses as strongly anymore.
'Oh, right. Urokodaki-san buried them. That's why my body hasn't made me throw up yet.' I thought, I could hear Tanjiro and Urokodaki talking to eachother and was half-tempted to walk out there and stop Urokodaki from slapping my younger brother. 'But if I do, I would burn in the sunlight and Tanjiro would be all alone. ... Wait. Why didn't I react to the blood the same way Nezuko did? Is there something different with me?'
I stifled a yawn as I continued to think about how I reacted to the situation. After a few minutes, I felt the basket being lifted off the ground and I could tell we were on the move. I struggled to keep my eyes open but the sound of the wind flowing through the trees and the calm rustle of leaves sent my eyelids falling until I could only see darkness.
'I won't fall asleep for as long as Nezuko did... I'll just... Take a quick... Nap.' Those were my last coherent thoughts before the beautiful wonder of sleep took me away.
TWO YEARS LATER
THIRD-PERSON POV
Tanjiro adjusted the blankets that were covering his sister's sleeping form one last time before he stood and walked out of the room.
His older sister had been asleep since that faithful night they met Urokodaki-san. Ever since, he had become sort of a second Father to Tanjiro. Even if it seemed like he was trying to kill him every day during training.
He walked to the shoji door where Urokodaki was standing next to. Today was the day he would head off to the Final Selection.
As he stepped outside he turned to Urokodaki and smiled at him. He couldn't tell if Urokodaki was smiling back, but he decided to think he was.
He then started to walk down the path and yelled his goodbye to the man that had become a Father-figure to him.
"And tell Sabito and Makomo I said thanks!" He yelled to Urokodaki, as he turned to start running down the path he didn't notice how Urokodaki's demeanor changed and the worried aura surrounding him.
"Tanjiro... How do you know the names of those dead children?" He mumbled to himself as the fading form of his disciple disappeared into the land.
Urokodaki sighed as he looked up at the mountainside and turned to walk inside his home. When he walked inside though, his nose was hit with a wave of confusion. He turned his head to the shoji door that led to Tanjiro's room and quirked an eyebrow behind his mask.
After he had closed the door he walked over to the shoji door that led to the other room and was about to slide it open when it was slid open from the other side. He looked down and saw the small form of Tanjiro's older sister standing with a confused and worried expression on her face.
"W-where... T-tanjiro?" She croaked, her throat was dry and her vocal cords weak after not using them for two entire years. She placed a hand to her throat and opened her mouth to speak again, but Urokodaki interrupted her.
"Tanjiro has gone to the Final Selection exam, where he will be fighting demons for seven days. And if he survives, he will become a Demon Slayer." Hana's eyes widened to a comically large size as she realized how long she was asleep for. She then smacked her hand to her forehead multiple times as Urokodaki stood there for a few moments in confusion.
"Baka! B-aka! Ba-" She said to herself, but she was cut off when she was sent into a coughing fit. She held her hand to her mouth and continued to cough while Urokodaki came to her side and held her steady.
When she finally stopped, she looked to Urokodaki and tears were in her eyes.
"Tanjiro... Alright?" She asked, her hand had not moved from her throat as she tried her best to voice her thoughts. Urokodaki's face contorted into worry under his mask as he sighed and straightened his posture.
"One can only hope, Hana." He said, worry coating his words. "One can only hope..."
NOTES (AGAIN)
Hi guys. Sorry if this seemed like it was rushed, I just wanted to get it over with. It will either be next chapter or the one after that in which we meet Lady Tamayo and Fuckboy Yushiro- I Mean, and her Assistant Yushiro.
Also, sorry if the fight scene wasn't that good, I don't have much experience with them.
And yes, I gave temple demon a fake name. That is why Hana kept on referring to him as "Chi". It translates to blood so (Insert shrugging emoji here).
One final thing, I am finally on AO3. So if you want to check me out my name is "Weeb_38". I will be posting different things on each account, and that is all.
Anyways, Goodnight/goodmorning/goodafternoon, my guys/gals/people!
