I was sitting down on my bed, trying to theorize about everything that I had heard earlier. It happened so suddenly I could barely pay attention to some of it. I eventually laid down and closed my eyes.
Then, I woke up after I don't know how long. Just felt like a while. The world was blurry. I wiped my eyes and accidentally pressed random numbers on my telephone.
"Hello?" The voice sounded...familiar. But I couldn't make out who it was.
I jumped up as I realized I dialed a number. "Um, hi, who is this?" I said with my tired voice.
"Nancy Wheeler."
I sighed. But hey, at least it was just her. But how would I just press random numbers and Nancy Wheeler out of everyone would pick up? And not just some random person?
"Who is that?" I heard a male's voice on the phone. Since I was still tired, I kinda wasn't thinking and said this:
"I-Is that Steve?" I asked out of nowhere.
There was a bit of silence until I heard the guy say something.
"Okay, I guess we're not in danger." I realized it was Jonathan. What is all this love drama?
"Hi, uh, who is this?" Nancy asked.
"Uh...someone you don't know." I answered.
"What?"
I hung up before I could say more. Why was Nancy with Jonathan? I mean, even if Steve and Nancy broke up, she went to him so soon. I know I shouldn't be caught up in teenagers' love triangles, but this just sounds weird. I laid down and closed my eyes again. I fell asleep shortly after that.
Sunday, November 4th, 1984.
Okay, so apparently Nancy like, actually likes Jonathan. I've heard about it before, but I didn't think it was real. Why did Jonathan just happen to be there with Nancy? At night? I swear something is going on in Hawkins. There's no way any of this can just be a coincidence. That one "mage" I saw, Will going missing and being frozen for a few minutes just 2-3 days ago, Lucas and Max talking about something kinda suspicious, and Jonathan saying that him and Nancy weren't in danger because I asked about Steve in my very childish and 12 year-old-ish voice. Also, not to mention, Nancy said that her and Steve "killed Barbara Holland" at the Halloween party.
I dressed up, asked my parents if I could stay at a friend's house, and rushed out to find the boys.
I biked around the neighborhood for a good 10 minutes until I found Lucas on his bike on the way to a house. I looked at my watch and realized I had woken up a little late. But that didn't matter. Anyways, I went towards him.
"Lucas, what is going on? What is all of this?" I asked after jumping off my bike.
"What do you mean?" He responded after he jumped off his. He looked slightly panicked but still managed to sound like everything was fine.
"Is there...anything going on in Hawkins that I should know about?" I asked.
"Oh! Uh, no. There...there isn't anything going on." He fake smiled and laughed.
"I accidentally called Nancy Wheeler last night. And she was with Jonathan. How could I just dial a random number and Nancy would answer the phone? They're somewhere else with some other person. And when I was on the call, Jonathan thought they were in danger before he heard my voice! Finally, Steve and Nancy like, killed Barbara Holland! Now, can you explain everything to me?"
"I-it's confidential stuff." He responded.
"Well it's not anymore. I've heard and seen a quarter of everything that has happened. Not so confidential anymore, isn't it?"
He sighed. "Let's sit down."
We sat down and he began to explain everything to me.
"All of that stuff that happened to Will...it happened because of something else."
"W-what are you talking about?" I asked.
He was talking about a place called the "Upside Down" and how this creature called the Demogorgon took Will.
"What about the mage that was at school?" I said.
He looked shocked when I said that. "What? She was there?"
"Whoever she was, yeah."
I told him about what had happened last Thursday before Will went frozen. He started to talk about her. Her name was Eleven. She used to be part of their party until she went into the Upside Down. Okay, this is kinda believeable since it's like the only explanation at the moment, but it's still a little too hard to handle.
"I guess she escaped and went into the school." Lucas said.
He explained everything else, including the actual details of Barbara Holland's death, the whole telephone thing and why Jonathan was so worried when I called Nancy, and some other stuff about Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper.
"Wait, so what were you and Max talking about at the arcade yesterday?" I asked Lucas.
"You saw us?!"
"Yeah."
"I told her all of the stuff I just told you."
"And she didn't believe you, didn't she?"
"...Yeah."
I asked what I thought at the time was a logical question. "Do you...like her?"
He was silent for a minute. Throughout those 60 seconds, I had felt worry all over my head. I was sitting next to the person who could potientially have a crush on my crush.
"What? I mean, well she's cool and all, but-"
"But what?"
"...Yeah, I like her."
My head tilted down before realizing that would obviously give it away.
"What's wrong?" Lucas asked.
I hadn't told anyone. But for some reason, I felt like I would ruin my entire life just by saying 4 words. I like her also. Then again, I feel as if I need to tell him. I don't wanna just sit here and silently hate Lucas for all eternity just because my feelings are also for her. Because I probably won't get a chance to be with her.
I like her also. Those 4 words could either ruin everything I've done in my lifetime, or it could ruin nothing at all.
"I..."
I hope that later on, this will be easier for people. It's not now. And that's one of the things we have to fix in our society.
I'm just gonna go for it. In hope for a better generation after ours.
"I like her also."
He tilted his head towards me, and he stared at me for a while. "Wait, seriously?"
"Yeah."
He tilted his head back.
"Look, I...I don't even know how it happened. I really don't. I just felt like the moment she came here, she felt special. She was different from other people I'd met. You know, she has a really cool but also a sometimes annoying personality." I chuckled.
Lucas had laughed a little also.
"I just don't know why it has to be like this. Why I have to like her." I said.
"Well...I mean...I don't really care." He said in a cheerful tone.
"Really? But...but you like her too."
"It's not your fault. And it shouldn't have to be anyone's fault. You just have a crush on someone, that's all."
I smiled. He smiled too.
"Thanks for being cool with it."
"You don't have to thank me." He said.
My head turned to face the house we were in front of. "Why did you come here?"
He sighed. "I have to go meet Dustin and Steve somewhere, and I have to get Max to prove I wasn't lying about everything yesterday. Think we might have to escape from the back. You ready to see her again?"
"Nah. I just need some time." I said.
"Alright, I'll knock on her door."
I moved my bike over to the back. I cannot believe I just did that. At least Lucas was fine with it.
I waited a few minutes and Lucas walked his bike towards me. I saw Max escape her window.
"Oh, hey Analyn." Max said.
"Hey." I responded.
Max climbed onto Lucas' bike and I climbed onto mine.
"Are you guys ready to go?" Lucas asked us.
"Yeah." Max said while I nodded.
