Coming home
Authors Note: This is my first attempt at writing fanfiction, so please be kind. I'm not a native English speaker and not everything will be right, but I'll try my best.
I have read many fanfictions here which have been very good and I liked the idea of writing one myself
I've loved GWTW since I was young and always wanted Rhett and Scarlett to be together at the end.
I came up with a few scenarios of how it could end, so here's one:
My fanfic is about Rhett returning after 3 months away with Bonnie - to a pregnant Scarlett. I have included some dialogues from the scene in the movie, but they are not quite correct/complete.
Enjoy! :)
PS: Please tell me what you think.
When Scarlett was told that her husband and child were coming back, she was overjoyed. At first she didn't understand because she hadn't felt such a feeling in a long time, but then it went through her mind: She really missed them more than she thought.
Scarlett ran down the grand staircase and hugged Bonnie fiercely. She kissed her and was happy to finally hold her in her arms again. Then she noticed the little kitten Bonnie had in her arms. "Look Mother, Daddy gave me that kitten!" It was a happy reunion and only now did Scarlett realize how much she had missed her daughter.
Then it occurred to Scarlett that she hadn't said hello to Rhett yet... But all of a sudden Scarlett got a huge fright. The last time she had seen him was after Ashley's birthday party, and the night after that ... Scarlett's memories of that came flooding back. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him watching her from the foot of the stairs.
Still she avoided his gaze, for a thought suddenly occurred to her: HE had left her alone, HE had not written her a letter, and now HE just came back as if nothing had ever happened? Scarlett felt an uncontrollable rage rising inside her. No, I'm not going to make it easy for you, Rhett Butler!
She sent Bonnie upstairs with Mammy and slowly stood up from the stairs, looking him straight in the face. Despite her anger, she managed a slight smile. She noticed his hesitation when he didn't immediately climb the stairs. Scarlett wondered, "He's not scared, just like me, is he?
When he had climbed the steps and was standing below her, she looked into his eyes. She could see nothing, no feelings of joy, anger or hatred. His facial expression was blank as it always was when he would not reveal his feelings to her.
"Mrs. Butler, I believe?"
"Mammy said you'd come back."
"Only to bring Bonnie. Apparently any mother even a bad one is better for a child than none."
"You mean you're going away again?"
"What perception, Mrs. Butler. Right away. I left my bags at the station."
The only thing he heard from her was an "oh". Somehow she looked disappointed and sad but he wouldn't let himself believe such a thing.
He said instead: "You're looking pale. Is this a shortage of rouge or can this oneless mean you've been missing me?
She looked at him very angry and in this second he knew that his sarcastic question was the wrong way to deal with her.
Scarlett said angrily: "My pale is your fault. Not because I've been missing you but because ... "
She looked at him and continued up the stairs. He looked after her and said, "Pray continue, Mrs. Butler."
They had both reached the top and she quickly replied, "It's because I am going to have a baby."
She turned to him and could just catch the last traces of a slight smile on his face. He took a tiny step toward her, so inconspicuous that she almost didn't see it if she hadn't been paying attention.
Could this mean that he was pleased with this news? No, she thought to herself, he couldn't be happy about another child. For him it was just a burden, when he already had Bonnie, whom he loved more than anything? Who he cared about more than her?
Scarlett had to admit to herself that she was once again jealous of her own daughter, and not for the first time.
As soon as Rhett could see her bitterness about the baby in her features, his smile froze and his face was once again unreadable.
He looked at her and said, "And who's the happy father?"
Another wave of anger came over her and she screamed at him, "You know it's yours. I don't want it anymore than you do. No woman want a child of a cad like you. I wish... I wish it were anybodys child but yours."
He looked at her and again she saw no emotion in his face. Not even her angry words seemed to matter to him anymore. She regretted her words the very second she said them out loud.
Rhett turned slightly toward her and looked her in the eye, "Cheer up, maybe you'll have an accident."
Scarlett looked at him and became even angrier. How dare he?
At that moment she wanted to do violence to him, to hurt him as he had just done with his words. She wanted to hurt him, to humiliate him, to show him that it was not always only he who was capable of hurting the other.
She was about to lunge for a punch, but lost her balance in the second. Rhett tried to fight her off, but realized that if he didn't stop her, she would tumble down the stairs.
"Scarlett, don't!" he yelled. "Think of the baby!"
His heart raced.
Rhett stumbled, but just managed to grab the collar of her dress. Two seconds later, he was lying on his back on the stairs, her in his arms. Scarlett had fainted, and if it hadn't been for him ... - he didn't want to think about what would have happened to her.
