Hello, everyone. Thanks for reading. The last novel I tried to write ended up in failure. I made the MC way too overpowered from the start for what I wanted the story to be. So, this time I just started writing and something came out. All I had in my head is a female OC, so let's see where this goes.

The name of this novel is only meant to be temporary, so tell me if you think you have a good name. This is a prolog so tell me what you think. I will take criticism as it comes. I think that about takes care of everything. Oh, I don't own Naruto or any of the characters in the original manga or show. Enjoy.

Land of Fire, Land of Water, Land of Lightning, Land of Earth, and Land of Wind. 5 large countries take up nearly 65 percent of the landmass of the elemental nations. The other 35 percent are owned by many smaller nations like Land of Rice, Land of Rivers, Land of Hot Water, and more. Many of these countries have a dedicated military village called a hidden village that contains their ninjas.

And among these villages Konohagakure no Sato is often thought of as the strongest village, only being contested by Kumogakure no Sato. Konoha is also often thought of as a peaceful village full of nature and teamwork and harmony. But, just like yin and yang, whenever there is light there is darkness hiding in the shadow.

Being a ninja is a stressful job. And it is a job that can weigh on the mind of any. So, to relieve some stress Konoha, like many other villages, has a redlight district. Anyone in the village, especially ninjas, can walk in, release some stress using their preferred method, then leave and forget about any consequences. Some have tried to get rid of the system and encourage healthy stress-relieving habits but the sheer amount of tax money the redlight district brings in for the post-war village is almost necessary.

And, of course, when people go and relieve themselves of their stress, they can sometimes leave things behind. Keys, wallets, children. And often most of these children grow up to continue the business and then pass along their experiences to the next generation of workers. But, sometimes, these children are given away to a nearby orphanage.

There are three public orphanages in Konoha. The first is funded by some noble clans, and if you were to grow up there you are guaranteed an education and a job. The second is near most of the civilian housing, and most children there are adopted before turning 7. And the third is in the redlight district. Legally it is not an orphanage. Legally it is a 1.5-acre plot of empty land that is co-owned by some nearby brothels.

Really it is a plot of land with tents and children everywhere. The only time an adult comes around is to drop off some supplies or to drop off some children. The older kids take care of the younger kids. A simple but effective system. So long as you give back what was used to raise you then you are free to do whatever you want, leave then never return, stay and raise other kids, etc.

Growing up in the red light district there are only two rules. One, drop dead weight, if you cannot take care of yourself then others will not take care of you. Two, don't touch kids under eight, they are given a grace period. During this time, they must learn the skills to survive, or they don't survive. It does not matter what skills they use, and it does not matter how they use those skills. To steal, to lie, to kill. Survival is what matters, not how you survive. Nakano has learned the skills, and she has survived.
