Angel Wings

Eleanor: Amy was a very kind person. She created these stories to bring joy to the hearts of readers, and to put hope in the hearts of the hopeless, lift the spirits of the unnoticed, and to be a friend to those who needed just that. I am proud to say that I knew her personally-

Amy: Guys! There's freaking cake out here! What're we celebrating?

Everyone in the funeral home: O.O

Dash: SHE'S ALIVE!

*cheers of joy ring throughout the crowd*

Amy: Huh. Didn't think I'd be missed if I died. I don't own pokémon!

As much as I regretted it, me and Aqua were assigned the next mission. I guess it was already predetermined by the others we were going. We had to stick by our partners, and since Forrest is gone and Flare is cursing herself for being stupid, that wasn't going to work. Dawn was trying to connect with Forrest and Wynter, and Dusk was basically keeping her from having a mental breakdown. Wynter and Surge... no comment. Eleanor and Carter were trying to hold the whole thing together, even if it was only by a few bare threads. And when it was found out that the mission was an underwater mission, well, our chances only increased.

Really, I was worrying myself sick. Sweet little Wynter and pacifist Forrest were the first to turn over, I mean, come on, a shy quiet BOOKWORM and that tree-hugging, meditating PACIFIST?! So what was it? Those who's personalities greatly oppose Demons are going over first. So does that mean...

I looked over at Aqua, who laughed gleefully as a burst of ocean breeze whipped through her hair. Her hair ribbon came loose, allowing it to flutter in the wind, yet she didn't seem to care that her dirty blond locks were flying wildly. I snatched the aqua-blue ribbon from the air, and stared down at it.

Does that mean Aqua is the next, most likely target?

"Hey, thanks!" Aqua smiled, taking the ribbon from me. She bent over, gathering her hair up to tie it back into it's usual ponytail.

"I have a question for you." I said.

"Shoot." Aqua responded, struggling with the stubborn ribbon. I rolled my eyes, got up, and held her hair in place while she tied ribbon. She smiled. "Thanks again."

"Anytime." I said with a dismissive wave of my hand.

"So your question...?"

"Oh, right, right!" I laughed. "I just always wondered... even in the worst case scenario, how can you always keep smiling?" she blinked, stopped fiddling with the knot on the ribbon. Slowly, her arms fell to her sides.

"I don't really know how to answer that." Aqua said. She sat down next to me. "I guess you could say that it's just my personality. But I like to think of it as this: Why wallow in the cold darkness of the world when I could dance in the sunlight?" she twisted a stand of hair around her finger. "Sure, life sucks. Especially when you're a mutant freak with wings that can breath underwater and control the element. But hey, I'm the only mutant winged freak that can breath underwater and control the water element. That makes me special and different. And, quite frankly," she looked up at me, her aquamarine orbs meeting my blain brown ones. "I like being different and special. If I wasn't, I sometimes wonder if I ever would've met you or any of the others. We've been through hell,"

"Both figuratively and literally," I pointed out. She laughed.

"Yeah, both figuratively and literally. But really, I guess I thought if I just smiled through it, and tried to cheer everyone else up, then they would be able to dance in the sunlight too. Does that make sense?"

"I guess." I shrugged. "Where do you think we'd be right now if we didn't get the wings?"

"What's with you and these tough questions?" Aqua asked as she playfully slugged me on the arm.

"Hey, it's simple curiosity!" I exclaimed.

"I dunno." Aqua shrugged, answering my question. "Does it matter where'd we be? What matters is where we are now."

"Okay you two." the captain of the small ship emerged from the hull. "This is the general area. You'll be okay from here on out?"

"Of course!" I exclaimed, jumping up. "We're top rangers, after all!" I ran over to the edge, bringing the aqualung up to my mouth.

"(We'll stay up on deck.)" Serena said. "(Be careful.)"

"Of course!" Aqua smiled, flashing the peace sign before diving in. Seeing that I had no choice in the matter, I dived in after her. Bubbles floated peacefully around me, forming from the sudden splash. My ranger goggles over my eyes, I looked around, trying to find Aqua.

"Boo!"

I nearly choked on my aqualung. I whipped around and saw Aqua floating around, no aqualung, goggles atop her head, untouched. She laughed, and seemed unaffected by the water around her. In fact, she acted as if she was on land! I watched in amazement as she somersaulted around a school of Goldeen.

"Aqua!" I grumbled, my voice slightly muffled from the aqualung in my mouth. She smiled, and winked.

"This is why I like being different." Aqua grinned. "'Cause we can do extraordinary things!"

"So we were assigned to help an injured Tirtouga," I muttered, looking at my styler, waterproof, yes. "Any idea where that would be?"

"Simple. We follow the signals!" Aqua exclaimed. I blinked. "See, water-types give off a specific signal when they are underwater, each signal different for each pokémon species." Aqua grinned. "An all I have to do is hone in on Tirtougas signal, and poof! We've found our pokémon!"

"That simple?" I asked.

"That simple." Aqua grinned again. She turned and took my hand. We began to swim towards the bottom of the ocean, and I couldn't help but gape at the sites. Coral grew on the rocks, and exotic sea flowers fluttered in the current. And, get this, there're remains of a temple down here.

"I never knew that people lived underwater." I said as I brushed my hand against the ancient ruins.

"This was probably a city that sunk below the water." Aqua said casually. "It's documented to happen."

"How do you think they all got out?"

"Flying types, I suppose." Aqua shrugged. "Who knows?"

"Still got that signal on Tirtouga?"

"Yeah, but I'm worried." She bit her lower lip. "It sounds scared."

"It just needs some help. That's all." I nodded reassuringly. "Lead the way." Slowly, Aqua raised her arm, and pointed towards her right.

"It's that way, but there are strong sea currants. I think the poor thing is caught in them, still injured."

"Then lets form a plan. How long can you hold off currants?" I asked as Aqua raised an eyebrow.

"I dunno. It'll be short, and if I do overdo it, I'll use up my energy and pass out. Then you'll have to carry me out along with Tirtouga." I rolled my eyes and flicked my hair somewhat arrogantly out of my eyes.

"Listen: Who am I?"

"Dash Smith." she smiled.

"And what amazingly unique title do I hold?"

"Angel of Speed."

"And what amazingly unique and incredibly awesome powers come along with that title?"

"Super speed and strength." Aqua grinned as I held up my pendant.

"And what does this little trinket give me?"

"Access to a power up!" She practically cheered. She grabbed my hand, and we moved through the water at a surprising speed.

"You ready?" Aqua asked, staring down the strong currant in front of her. I responded by pulling my pendant around my neck. She nodded, and brought up her own weapon, her whip. Her right hand grasped it tightly whereas her left hand hovered underneath it. She was muttering something, most likely in Angelic, her wings lifting into the air. Suddenly glowed a blue aura. Slowly, she reared her arm back, and cracked the glowing, ribbon-like whip down onto the speeding current. It stopped, and I took it as my cue to go.

I sped forward, going as fast as my own wings would take me, glancing around frantically for the Tirtouga. There! I spotted it. One of it's fins was trapped under a large boulder, and I was sure that it was broken. I dove down, and the Tirtouga looked up, fearful.

"It's okay." I said assuringly, placing my hands under the rock. With a heave and a grunt, I threw the rock off the pokémon. The fossil pokémon stared in amazement as I picked it up. "How'd you end up here? You're just a little baby, hmm?" I began to swim back up, feeling the current picking up again. "Hey, Aqua! I've got it!" I popped up and froze. Okay, two things that need to be pointed out: One, Aqua managed to obtain the Warrior Form.

It was surprisingly simple. Really, a white bikini and an aqua-blue cloth knotted around her waist at her hip. Beaded strings fell from the her top, falling before swooping around and hooking in the back. Beaded anklets went around her ankle, two per leg, and she was barefoot. Gold bangles were around her wrist, and a chain wound around her forehead, a teardrop shaped sapphire hanging in the middle, overlapping the teardrop mark on her forehead. Like the others, her marginal converts also had a strange armor, gold with aquamarine gemstones.

As for the second thing... well...No wonder the current came back so quickly... Aqua was fighting head on with Dawn!

"Dawn! What the hell?!" I exclaimed, rushing towards the girl. Slowly, she raised her hand, outlined in a deep violet, and I was thrown back, crashing through a patch of plants, fish-pokémon scattering, before landing painfully into a rock. I nearly dropped the aqualung.

"Dash!" Aqua screamed my name while I tried blinking stars out of my vision.

"I would prefer to be called Ebony, thank you." Dawn said like she was above us, like she was royalty. Is this what happens when an Angel goes bad?

Aqua let out a roar of rage, and brought her whip down, sending a strong current in Dawns direction. Dawn smirked, her now crimson red eyes shining with pride. The current stopped just as it was about to reach Dawn, and was flung in my direction. I ground my teeth together as I slammed into the rock again.

"Whoops!" 'Ebony' snickered, covering her mouth with one hand. "Was that meant for me?" Aqua muttered something under her breath, and glanced at me. "Now where were we?" Dawn mused, tapping her finger thoughtfully to her chin. "Oh yeah." opening her book, she raised a hand, surrounded in a dark aura. Aqua became surrounded in the same dark aura.

Slowly, the aura faded away, and a moment or two passed. One heartbeat, Aqua widened her eyes. Two heartbeats, Aqua raised a hand to her throat. Three heartbeats, air bubbles flew from her mouth. The fourth heartbeat, Aqua fell, air bubbles escaping. Her hand rushed to her mouth, trying to hold the air in. Her eyes were widened with fear, and soon, mine were too. Aqua couldn't breath underwater anymore. Ebony tipped her head back and laughed.

"I may not be able to control a powerful element like you, but my psychic powers allow me to cast devastating spells. Like, say," she smirked. "Taking away certain abilities and powers. Don't worry though," she sauntered over to me, and looked back over her shoulder. "The spell will wear off eventually. If you aren't already dead." Ebony turned back towards me, and plucked the aqualung from my mouth. A burst of air bubbles left me from surprise, but I quickly pressed my hands over my mouth. "I don't think you'll be needing this anymore." she smirked, and pocketed the item. A faint ringing ran through the air. "Ah, well, that stinks. I was hoping to sit here and watch you try to die. But King is calling me back." she raised her left arm, and a black portal opened to the side. "Toodle-loo!" And like that she was gone.

"Aqua!" I thought desperately as I swam over to her. I picked up the injured Tirtouga, and looked above me, suddenly dreading that we were at the very bottom of the ocean. I grabbed Aquas hand. "Just hold on." I thought as I pushed myself off the bottom. We sped up like a missal, and I smirked. "Looks like smarty-pants forgot about me." I kicked, faster and faster, Tirtouga in one hand and Aqua swimming beside me, her hand in my other.

Suddenly, Aqua tilted her head back and let out a burst of bubbles. She began scrambling to get get air. Her legs thrashed as she grabbed at her throat, but I continued pulling at her, urging her towards the surface. I panicked as she suddenly paused, staring straight ahead for a moment before her body slowly went limp.

Then my chest started burning too. My vision got blurry, and everything in my body suddenly felt very sore. Instead of floating, I suddenly found myself sinking, still grasping Aquas hand. Tirtouga slipped from my grasp, and I think it began making desperate cries for help. Wether it was for itself and its injured fin or us, I didn't know.

And I may very well never know at all.
