Angel Wings

Amy: *looks over shoulder nervously* You sure we lost them?

Emi(From 'Anything But Ordinary'): I think so... Naru is gonna kill me if I'm late.

Amy: Maybe we should call in Aimee or something.

Emi: What? Don't trust my abilities?

Amy: No...

Emi: And how come you named another OC Amy, only spelling it differently?

Amy: 'Cause I'm fucking awesome like that. *looks around* Yeah, you can go. We don't want Naru to murder you after all!

Emi: Thanks.

Amy: ... You're gonna end up late anyways, aren't you?

Emi*shrugs*: Meh. You're the one who's writing this bullcrap, not me.

Amy: BULLCRAP?! Noooo... my self esteem...

Emi: Oh, quiet! I'm kidding, goofball!

*Amys self esteem floats over her as a spirit and goes up to the heavens*

Emi*blinks*: Well... somebody needs a shrink. Anyways... Even though I'm from the Ghost Hunt fandom and have absolutely NO IDEA WHAT I'M DOING HERE, I'll do the disclaimer. Amy47101 does not own pokémon.

Luck. Pure. Sweet. Effing luck. I'm alive. I'm effing alive and I feel on top of the whole damn world because of it.

Except for, of course, the fact that my brain was foggier than hell, my limbs felt like rubber bands attached to my body, and nothing seemed to be working. Everything was numb, hell, even my eyelids felt like ten pound weights. We've both gotten the shit beaten out of us, practically drowned, so I suspect that it was a natural thing. But I was breathing.

But, relishing in the glory of life aside, how in the name of Arceus did I survive? We were nowhere near the surface of the sea, I knew that. Wait... we... Where's Aqua?! And what about Serena and Miles?! And the injured Tirtouga! Is she okay?! She couldn't be... no way! Aqua's stronger than that, powers or no powers!

I opened my eyes a crack, and even that seemed hard. As soon as my eyes opened, however, the light in the room practically blinded me, sending a piercing pain straight through my head. I groaned, registering now that I was lying atop a bed, comforters covering my surprisingly cold body. I sat up, sending another shoot of pain up my torso and back. Guess getting slammed into rocks a bunch of times does that to you.

I stood up, letting out a hiss of pain as my jello legs decided to remind me that there was no way in hell I was going anywhere anytime soon. I ran my hands through my slightly damp hair, trying to figure out where I was, where Aqua was, and where everyone else was.

During my reminiscing, I realized I was in a simply decorated bedroom, a bed, desk, dresser, and a small window. A nightstand sat on the table. The time read three in the afternoon. On what day, I wasn't sure. With much effort, I heaved myself off the bed with a somewhat loud grunt, every muscle in my body aching.

As I made my way towards the door, I found that the reason that I was so damn cold was the fact that whoever found us decided to treat us. My ranger uniform was gone, and I was wearing red flannel pants that were a little to big for me, the cloth gathering around my ankles from the length. I had on no shirt, my entire chest and torso wrapped in bandages. Oh, and the fact that my wings were out in the open, for all to see. I paled slightly.

Who saw my wings, or, in Aquas' case, considering she's still alive, our wings? And who changed our clothing? Grabbing a blanket and throwing it over my shoulders, I slammed open the door, a mix of fear and adrenaline rushing through my veins, desperate to find out wether or not our savior was an enemy or a friend.

I rushed out into the hallway, staring over the railing of the second floor. From below sat an elderly couple, the man reading a book and the woman knitting a scarf or something, I guess. The woman looked up at me, eyes widening.

"Earl, he's awake." she said to her husband. 'Earl' looked up at me. I was still clutching the blanket around my shoulders, panting heavily from the sudden burst of speed. I winced, and wrapped my arm around my bandaged stomach, falling to a knee and leaning against the railing.

"Dear Arceus, boy, you look awful." Earl said, getting up from his chair and walking up the stairs. I forced myself to kneel. "You feeling alright?" Well sir, you tell me if I look alright. He turned to his wife. "Should he be running around like that, Wendy?"

"Certainly not!" Wendy exclaimed, reaching a hand out. I ignored it and pushed myself up myself. Wendy smiled gently. "I know you're panicked, considering..."

"What did you see?" I exclaimed. "Where's Aqua?"

"The girl? She's in another bedroom." Earl said. "She's got a fever."

"But she's alive?"

"Alive and somewhat well." Wendy smiled gently.

"What did you see? And where are we?"

"If you're talking about the wings, we won't tell anyone." Wendy said. "It's not everyday an old coots like us are in the grace of Angels!"

"It's not all that important." I muttered, trying to stand.

"In fact, it is! And as of where you are, you're on a little island off the coast of the Haruba Desert." Earl explained to me. I nodded as they went back downstairs I followed, quite painfully, behind them.

"It was a beautiful thing," Wendy said wistfully. "We found you out on our boat. A school of Luvdisc were in the water, swimming peacefully along the boat, when all of a sudden you two were in the middle of the school. I think I nearly fainted when I saw the wings, I thought we were being blessed by Arceus himself!" I swallowed uncomfortably.

"So the Luvdisc saved us?" I asked as Earl brought me some stew.

"Yes, now eat, boy, you look pale as a sheet!" he paused. "And what's your name?"

"Dash." I said, taking a spoonful of the stew and after the first bite, I found that I downed the bowl in a few seconds.

"Do know the legend of Luvdisc?" Wendy asked. I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Doesn't it have to do with lovers or something?"

"Well, kinda. It was basically the a Milotic and Gyarados fell in love, but it was heavily rejected because the Gyarados was so, well, viscous and ugly-looking."

"Heh." I mumbled. Man, I hated romance stories!

"I'm not sure how the rest of the story goes, but both died at the end, and their scales became Luvdiscs, the pokémon that will always represent true love." Wendy smirked. "They say that when two people are surrounded by a school of Luvdisc, they're meant to be together." So me and Aqua were surrounded by Luvdisc. Then did that mean...my face immediately heated up with realization.

"Wha-What are you implying?!" I exclaimed.

"Nothing but a mere coincidence." Wendy went back to her knitting, smiling gently.

"So, care to explain to us," Earl came back in with another bowl of stew, which I accepted gratefully. "How you two ended up with wings and in the ocean, practically drowned?" I paused, spoon halfway to my mouth, my stomach suddenly not so willing to eat the meal in front of me. Sure, I knew this was coming, but how the hell am I going to explain this without sounding crazy.

"Um... the wings are a long story." I muttered, readjusting the blanket around my shoulders. "The 'practically drowned' thing was just a mission gone wrong. The enemy..." the word tasted weird on my mouth, calling Dawn the enemy. "Got us while we were at the bottom of the ocean, trying to save an injured Tirtouga." I looked up. "Did you happen to spot it?"

"Yes. We sent it to the hospital. It was swimming around you guys. We've gotten word that it'll be fine and up and swimming in the next few days."

"How long have we've been here?"

"Mmm... we've found you around noon yesterday..."

"We've been here for over twelve hours?!" I exclaimed, jumping up, but immediately regretting it as my bandaged chest and stomach burst into pain.

"No sudden movements." Wendy said, pushing me back into the chair. "Would you like to contact someone?"

"Yes." I muttered. Flare is going to shoot me dead. And then Dusk is going to skin me alive for not trying to get Dawn back. I just know it. Wendy passed me my styler, and I had to do a mental lapse to try and remember who's still contactable. Eleanor, Carter, Flare, and Dusk. Maybe Surge, if he's out of his coma. So... out of those four, who's least likely to murder me?

Eleanor.

"WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!" or maybe not... "DO YOU KNOW WHAT COMPLICATIONS WE'VE BEEN HAVING OVER HERE?! DAWNS' GONE, SURGE IS STILL IN HIS COMA, AND DUSK'S ALL DEPRESSED OVER DAWN!"

"Listen, I'm sorry," I muttered, walking out of the room before Eleanor decided to blurt something out that Wendy or Earl might hear. "We got attacked and practically drowned." there was a pause.

"It was Dawn, wasn't it?" she asked at a much lower level then before.

"Yeah... Listen, the mission was completed, but I'm in no way, shape, or form to move, let alone fight. And I think Aquas' sick." Eleanor sighed.

"I guess we'll just have to pick up the pieces from here." Eleanor muttered. "We have Serena and Miles, in case you're wondering."

"Thank Arceus." I muttered. "The Miles may be a grumpy ass, but he's my grumpy ass."

"(I hope you realize that this 'grumpy ass' can hear every word you're saying.)" Miles exclaimed. I swallowed.

"Crap." I muttered. "Well... just checking in. Mind telling Chairperson Erma and Prof. Hastings for me?"

"Of course. Now rest up! We're seriously going to need you when you get back." she sighed again. "Man, this is going from bad to worse. A complete nightmare."

"You could say that again." I muttered. "Talk to you later, okay?"

"'Kay." Eleanor answered. "Bye."

"Bye." I hung up the styler and stared at it for a bit. It was like Eleanor said. The blissful dream of being a ranger was now turning into a horrid nightmare with each passing day. I ran my spare hand through my hair before reattaching the styler to my wrist. I walked back out with Wendy and Earl, both seemingly distraught over something.

"Say, boy, get over here." Earl said. "See, we just found out our granddaughter, Yumi, was sent over on a surprise visit. Thing is, she doesn't know we moved here, and is wandering around Puel Town. Think you could hold down the fort until we get back?" I blinked.

"Sure!"

I was hot and cold at the same time. I knew I had a fever, that was evident, but I was shivering. I opened my eyes a crack, seeing white ceiling above me. Everything was hazy. I turned my head to the side, trying to recognize the place I'm in, but I was drawing a complete blank.

Mustering up some courage, I threw the covers off of me, and swung my legs over the edge of the bed. I stood up, but the world spun. I think I bumped into something, but I wasn't to sure. I took two steps forward, and the room spun even more violently. My head pounded, and I felt like I was going to puke.

Suddenly, I found that I was lying on the floor with a dull pain on my side...

BANG!

CRASH!

THUD!

I nearly jumped five feet in the air when I heard that. Next thing I knew, I was Extreme-Speeding through the house, trying to find the source of the sound. I slammed open doors until I reached the room that the elderly couple had designated as Aquas room.

"Aqua?!" I exclaimed as I opened the door, and did a double take. Aqua laid sprawled out on the floor, hair down, in a white nightgown. Her eyes were shut tight, and she was whimpering in her sleep. I winced slightly at the pain that shot through me. I really need to learn that adrenaline only lasts for a little while...

"Aqua?" I kneeled next to her and shook her gently. Her forehead glistened with sweat, and burned under my fingertips. Could a little bit of water have caused her to get so sick...? Quickly, I scooped her up and laid her back on the bed.

Now what did one do when another had a fever...? I hurried to the bathroom, coming back with a cool washcloth, and laid it on her forehead. Really, that was the best that I could do.

"Damnit." I muttered under my breath, watching as her breathing quickened, and the whimpering became louder. "I should've paid better attention to the nursing classes Janice gave us..."

"It's... okay..." Aqua muttered, reaching out and grasping my hand. Her eyes cracked open, although she seemed to be having trouble focusing. "All those monsters can attack me as much as they want... But as long as... you're here, I know I'll be safe." She smiled. "You'd always protect me... right... Dash?" I looked down at our intertwined hands, and put on a determined grin.

"Of course!" I exclaimed in a silent whisper. She smiled, and nodded.

"Good." she closed her eyes, sleep tugging at her mind again. "Thank... you..."
