I hung up the styler. Pushing my bangs off my forehead with my left hand, I sighed. I tilted my head back, leaning against the wall, closing my eyes. Our numbers are down to less than half, and I knew it wasn't going to stop anytime soon.

"Eleanor?" Carter peeked his head out from Dusks room. Dusk was a real wreck. The minute Dawn disappeared, his cold, stoic expression lifted to that of fear. Pure fear, knowing that the one he loved is no longer around. Hearing that she changed over... somehow I knew it was worse than finding out his parents were shot dead. Dawn is no longer Dawn, but Ebony. He knew that when his parents died, he'd meet up with them again one day, in heaven. But in this situation... we have no idea how to change them back. We don't know if we could bring Dawn, Forrest, Gabriel, or Wynter back.

And I think that scared me the most.

"Yeah?" I answered, not moving from my positioning.

"Did you get a call from them?"

"Yeah. Ambushed by Daw-Ebony underwater. Dash got beat up pretty bad, and Aqua got sick. They'll be out of commission until they heal." I opened my eyes and turned in his direction. "How's Dusk?"

"He wants some time alone. I think he's crying." Flare answered, walking out of the room.

"I need you to get Dash and Aqua back here." I said. "They're in an older couples house, but I don't want to drag them into this. Dash can't fly, and Aquas' sick. You need to get them here so I can heal them. Gather some Staraptor for them." Flare smirked determinedly.

"Roger!" she said. "Tell Prof. Hastings for me!" And with that, she ran down the escalator, shouting something to Murph along the way.

"We kinda have to." Carter sighed, knowing Flare was long gone. He looked up at me, one question in his eyes: Do we tell what happened to Aqua and Dash, or do we tell them everything?

I growled something under my breath. Perhaps a curse word. I sighed, and looked up at him.

"Carter... I think it's time we told them everything."

"What is this all about, Eleanor? Carter?" Prof. Hastings demanded as we walked up to the Tree of Life floor. No one was following us. "I have research! Tons and tons of research to explore and investigate!"

"Hastings, calm down." Erma said. "What do you need to talk about? If it's about your friends, then we can talk about it."

"So... Eleanor, how should we say this?" Carter asked, immediately putting their attention on me. I blinked. Thanks, Carter. Put all this on my shoulders.

"Um, okay, you know how Team Hellion seems to have people with bat wings and stuff of the sort?"

"Yes. I'm trying to figure out what they are." Prof. Hastings mused. "Probably more mutants from one of their experiments."

"They aren't mutants." I said. "They're Demons."

"Demons? Highly impossible!" Prof. Hastings exclaimed. "They are mutants, I'm sure of it."

"So if you don't think that Demons exist, then you probably don't believe in Angels either, huh?" Carter asked.

"Mutants." Prof. Hastings said bluntly. Carter looked at me, his face saying:You sure about this? I nodded in response, and exhaled.

"Reveal thyself." I muttered in Angelic. The wings sprouted from our backs, and we glanced up at Hastings and Erma. Hastings jaw literally dropped to the ground, whereas Erma seemed to be in awe.

"Hey, we didn't give either of them a heart attack!" Carter exclaimed. "That's great! You're doing great!" Cue smack to the head with a cane from Hastings.

"Rude children." he muttered under his breath as Carter yelped in pain.

"This is like with Woodward all over again!" he exclaimed. Hastings raised an eyebrow.

"You met my younger brother?" Hastings asked. "Ah, yes, Woody is quite the character when it comes to discipline."

"Yeah, he found a reason to beat me with that damn cane everyday."

"Not the time, Carter." I muttered.

"Yes, yes, certainly not the time indeed." Erma said, walking up to us.

"It doesn't make sense..." Prof. Hastings said as he walked around us, as if examining us. "I cannot think of a scientific explanation for this. Certainly not mutants, you seem to have some strange power surrounding you. Could it be...?" Slowly, he reached out and gave sharp tug on one of my feathers.

"Ow!" I yelped, trying to reach at the place he pulled it from. "Those are attached, ya know!" Prof. Hastings ignored me, twirling the feather between his fingers.

"Interesting. I wonder..." he looked up at us. "Are you survivors of the Angel-Demon experiment?" my breath caught in my throat for some reason, but I nodded numbly. "I heard of it. A massacre, they say. Do you remember anything?"

"No. Just my Dad carrying me out of the cage. Everything else is a blur." I answered.

"Better than me. I woke up in a private hospital, my grandparents at my side." Carter chimed in. Hastings nodded.

"This is a crazy theory, but the reason your friends were captured earlier this year, and are disappearing now, is it because they are also survivors?" I nodded again.

"Why are they gathering you back up again?" Erma asked. I shook my head.

"Forrest, Dawn, and Wynter... they weren't gathered. See, this may sound complicated, but there's Demon blood inside us. It multiplies and slowly takes us over until we're another being." we continued to explain our stories, the hardships, the secrets, the facts, what we knew, what we didn't know. They asked questions, we answered them.

Funny thing... the accepted it. I didn't know to many adults who could full on accept the fact that we have wings and superpowers and are about to become killing machines of mass destruction. But they were calm, collected, and, maybe even impressed at the tale of an unusual thing called 'My Life'.

They acted as if it was completely, utterly, normal.

The storytelling, however, ended in one minute as an explosion erupted throughout the building.

Flare was smirking at me. I knew she was.

"What?" I asked, glancing in her direction. She flew happily through the air, not giving a shit if anyone down below saw her wings. I, on the other hand, could not fly due to my injuries, and was stuck riding a Staraptor with Aqua lying across my lap. I swear Flare only brought one on purpose.

Not that I had a problem with it or anything like that.

"Oh, nothing." Flare said, smirking even more. I sighed, rolling my eyes. "You really should tell her." my head snapped up at this.

"Eh?!"

"I know you like her, Carter knows you like her, everyone knows you like her, Dash." Flare said. It took no genius to realize she was talking about Aqua. "You need to tell her before you miss your chance."

"Miss my chance...? What are you going on about?!" I demanded, face heating up.

"You never know what could happen tomorrow. She could find someone else. She could turn over. She could even die, for all we know. You need to tell her before she's gone and you don't have the chance to tell her anymore." she looked down at the foliage and trees below us, whereas I looked at Aqua. Fast asleep, head resting on my thigh. Even through my ranger uniform, I could feel the fever. Her breathing was coming out in small puffs. Sometimes she whimpered and screamed at the monsters her fever-induced mind created, but she held tight to my hand. "I know I missed my chance." Flare muttered. I blinked at this, raising my head, trying to look into her eyes again. She averted her gaze.

"Did you like Forrest?" I blurted out.

"Of course! He was my partner throughout our ranger career!" Flare exclaimed.

"You know I didn't mean it in that way." I retorted. She blinked, and looked down again.

"So what if I did?" she asked. "Forrest isn't here anymore. He's Kage now. I missed my chance to tell him, and now he's gone forever." she sighed. "You don't get a second chance at these things, Dash. I had my chance, back when we got stuck in the rockslide. I chickened out, and now look where I am." she looked back up at me. "I'm an emotional wreck, and everything around me seems to be falling apart." That's when I noticed it. Dark circles under her eyes, she hasn't been sleeping. She seemed thinner... and now that I think about it, I haven't seen her eat a morsel of food since Forrest left.

"That's not the point, Flare." I said, surprisingly, in a stern voice. "Don't you dare give up hope on the tree-hugging pacifist, or I swear I'll drag him back here and make you two confess your damn love."

"He's gone." she said stubbornly.

"He isn't!" I exclaimed. "None of them are gone! Don't you dare go into this self-destruct mode, find some damn hope and latch onto it like you life depends on it!" Flare blinked, and averted her gaze.

"You know, I wanted so badly to believe that when my dad put me in the Angel-Demon experiment, and left when I wasn't good enough for him. I wanted to believe he was still a good man, and he wouldn't ever hurt me intentionally. But," she looked up again. "I knew deep down he was never coming back. I knew he would never come back and climb trees with me, or show me how to train the best fire type pokémon known to man. I know the feeling, Dash. And I... I know that Forrest isn't ever coming back."

A long, heavy silence. Aqua whimpered again, and I squeezed her hand reassuringly. Her whimpering subsided, and she clutched my hand tighter.

Then, out of nowhere, something shot up next to Flare. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I realized it was a tree root, but that quickly subsided as one shot up to my right. Staraptor shot forward to avoid the onslaught, and another shot up to my left. That was when full course panic set in. Aqua was waking up, feverish blue eyes glancing around confused.

Another root to the back, I heard Flare scream something. Another to the right, and Staraptor tilted to avoid being hit. A loud noise filled my ears, and I realized it was screaming. Flares, screaming out random curse words as she attacked. Myself for being such an idiot as to let her fall. And most of all, Aquas', who was falling through the sky, screaming her sick lungs off.

"Dash, you IDIOT!" Flare screamed as I jumped off Staraptor. I completely ignored her, adrenaline coursing through my veins as I straightened my body, propelling myself closer to Aqua. She was screaming and crying, and somewhere in the back of my mind, I think she thought she was still dreaming.

"No! No, no, no, no, no, NO!" Aqua was screaming over and over.

"Grab on!" I hollered. Our fingers were close, dancing just within each others reach. For one sick moment, I imagined us falling into the ground, knowing that it wasn't going to be a soft landing.

The thought quickly bypassed as I wrapped my fingers around her wrist, pulling her up as the trees came closer. My wings burst from behind me, and pain suddenly shot down my back. Flying only a day after suffering a beat-in with rocks? Not smart. I winced as we crashed through trees, branches and leaves hitting my wings, cutting them up along with any exposed skin. We fell in a heap, shocked, scratched up, but otherwise fine.

"Oh. You survived." Forrest... Kage stepped out from the shadows under the trees. I stood protectively in front of Aqua, who sat weakly on the grass. I think she realized that this wasn't really a dream, but reality. "How sad. Now I'll have to turn you over while you're awake."

Forrest looked different, that was for sure. Crimson eyes? Check. Elfish ears? Check. Small protruding fangs? Check. Demon wings? Check and check. Darkened Warrior form? Yep. Hardly looked like the pacifist we all knew and loved.

I stood in a fighting stance, my pendant around my neck, glowing and glinting dangerously. Kage raised an eyebrow.

"Are you challenging me?"

"If I have to." I grunted out.

"You do realize we are in my domain?" Roots and vines snaked from the shadowy foliage behind him, slithering on the ground and behind him. "I'm in control. What are you going to to to me? Run in circles? Toss a rock at me? Terrifying." he smirked. "You're the weakest of the bunch. All you do is run from problems. So what if you can throw a few hard punches? Big. Deal."

"And so what if you and the others control some awesome element?" I smirked myself, eyes shaded, becoming outlined in a light tan. "I could care less. I'll beat you down over and over again. I made a promise to Aqua. And that promise was," I looked up, the glowing around me becoming more intense. "That I'd always protect her. In other words," Glowing intensified again, slowly engulfing me as the next words came from my mouth. "There's no way in the frozen debts of hell, that I'me letting you near her."

"What in the name of Uxie, Mespirit, and Azelf?!" exclaimed Prof. Hastings as the shaking subsided.

"Sir!" Murph came running in. "There's been an explosion on the second floor and... Holy crap." he stared, wide mouthed at us.

"Explanations later!" Eleanor exclaimed. "Who's attacking us?"

"Wynter and Dawn!" Murph cried out. "They look majorly creepy though, bat wings, elf ears, fangs..." he counted off his fingers as he rambled on. I widened my eyes.

"Damnit, the Demons are attacking now?!" I exclaimed, nearly tearing my hair out. "We're down by less than half!"

"Is Forrest here?!" Eleanor demanded.

"No! He hasn't come in yet." He widened his eyes with realization. "Wait, is he one of those things too?!" My mind was going a mile a minute. Forrest wasn't here...

"After Flare." Eleanor said. She muttered something under her breath. "They're messing with us psychologically. Do you thin Flare could attack Forrest or Dusk Dawn?"

"No way in hell." I muttered. Screams and another explosion.

"DAMNIT!" Dusk roared from below. We heard him clear up here.

"The nerve!" Prof. Hastings exclaimed, rushing down stairs after us, Murph and Erma not far behind. "We just had that floor repaired! The minute I get out there..." he halted his speech as he took in his surroundings.

A huge hole in the wall, ruble strewn everywhere. Wendy flew past them, surrounded in a purple aura, slamming into the wall painfully, her arm making a very loud cracking noise. Sven followed her, surrounded in purple, slamming into the wall, laying unconscious next to Wendy. Kate, Keith, and Kellyn were each frozen in place on the wall, thick strips of ice around their waists. Kellyn was unconscious, head hanging limply. Kate had a black eye and was covered in cuts and bruises. Keith was screaming curse words, banging his fists against the ice and kicking his legs. He was quickly silenced as an icy blast of wind snapped his head back, slamming it into the wall. Dusk jumped back to dodge another attack, in his Warrior form, wielding his ninja stars.

In the middle of it all? Dawn and Wynter. Or should I say, Ebony and Kylma.

"I'm sorry." Dusk grunted. "I had too." we just nodded.

"They already know." Eleanor said reassuringly.

"Well, look who finally decided to come down." Ebony sneered.

"Dawn." Eleanor nodded.

"Ah, no. It's Ebony."

"You realize it didn't have to resort to this." Kylma said. "We just wanted to talk."

"Then talk away." I said. "Can't wait to hear your explanation."

"Perhaps it's more of a negotiation." Ebony said. She snapped her fingers, and suddenly a man appeared in front of her. He was perhaps close to a fathers age, brown hair long and shaggy, tied at the end with a strip of cord. He was wearing an old, torn up ranger uniform, and was unconscious. I noted that his face seemed to share a similar resemblance to someone I knew... someone I met in Cocona Village that one day we were at the Rainbow Festival...

From beside me, Eleanors mouth was wide open, eyes so wide I was sure her eyeballs were going to pop out of her head. I think she was trying to say something, a comeback? Or a question? I couldn't tell. But one word slipped from her mouth. One word that changed the course of everything.

"Daddy?"
