I woke up the next morning to find Ethan awake in his basket watching me wide awake. I smiled at him before sitting up and picking him up. I took him to the kitchen and put his bouncer seat on the booth table and put him in it. I started making his bottles for the day. I left him playing with his toys in his seat while i lay out the boys clothes for the day. I then went in the bathroom changing over the laundry so more clothes were going. Back in the kitchen I got Ethan and Fed him some berry juice with water added to it to tide him over to breakfast.
I woke the boys up making them get ready for the day. I had started making them wear longer pants since it was getting colder out. I was changing Ethan's diaper and clothes before doing mine. I put Ethan's sling on be decided just to carry him on my hip for now I notice that I had extra time this morning so I turned on the tv for the boys to watch or Sam and Ethan at least were watching spongebob. I grabbed our bug out bags from the closet and grabbed Matt before we opened the first one each.
We sorted through them taking out the older cannes goods putting them in the front of the cabinet so they would get used in time before they went and replaced them with newer canned goods, I added more supplies here and there since we had more that we could put in the bags. I replaced the summer clothes with winter clothes extra socks, gloves, hat, and scarf went in also for colder months. I then zipped mine and Matt did the same with his.
I started on Sam's which was mostly clothes, coloring books, toys, and a couple books. I then just added diapers, wipes, warmer clothes, extra couple blankets, a few toys into Ethan's and his was done. Our bags were color coded Ethan's had an elephant on the top of the light grey bag, Sam's was orange with Dinosaurs on it, Matt was Camouflage while mine was my military backpack that I carried around. I put them all back in the closet where they were easy to grabbed if we needed to make a break for it. I notice now it was getting late enough that everyone would be getting up so I grabbed Ethan putting him on my hip and we went over to the camp fire where breakfast was being started.
Carol like always was up and cooking while Lori was asleep sleeping in like normal. I went over with one of the bags of berries we had got yesterday out putting them on the stove with some warm water to soften them up. I made the last of the Oatmeal that we had. I added the last of the berry juice that was in the food bin. Carol had gone and started clothes since I had breakfast taken care of. Sam, Sophia, Morales children, and Carl were sitting down at the picnic table coloring and playing with toys while Matt watched them and held Ethan for me.
I waited to add the berries to the oatmeal until we served it up. It took about 20 minuets before the oats were fully cooked and ready to eat. By then mostly everyone was up and waiting around the fire to get some. I of course fed the kids first giving them extra berries so they would get full. I then put me, Carol, and Morales wife a bowl to the side before serving the rest of the women and then the men. Glenn came first in the men group then T-dog, Morales, Shane, Dale, Jim, and lastly Ed. Rick would have came before Shane but he was still sleeping so I just saved him some instead.
Everyone was eating moaning and groaning at how good the food was and thanking me for and Amy talked about going fishing for supper tonight acting like Daryl never spent time getting us meat a day in his life which pist me off. They never thanked him once for the food only the people that cooked it. I fed Ethan with one hand while eating with the other practice makes perfect. I stopped half way though to burp Ethan and put him in his sling before eating the rest of my breakfast. Carol, Lori and Jaques started on dishes while I and Morales wife got the children started on school work.
Or My boys and Morales children did school work or played at the table where me and her could keep an eye on them. I liked her the most as a mother out of the group because she was like me she always knew where her kids were. I like Carol the most as a single mom because that basically what she was Ed never raised a finger to help her out just demanded what he wanted and expected her to get it. I finished up with the dishes before grabbing my kids and left over berries taking them to the Rv for the day. I didn't like that there were so many walkers in the woods so I was keeping them locked up today.
I let Matt and Sam watch NCIS while I spent the morning cleaned up the Rv and checked it over making ready to travel incase we had to make a getaway soon. I switching the last of the laundry over and folding the most the summer clothes up putting them in boxes. I replaced them with some warmer fall clothes. Each of us had 1-3 boxes per season. Fall had only one box but that gave us two weeks of clothes. I got them out putting them in the drawls with some winter clothes on bottom. I even got out the winter coats and boots for all of us. I did the same thing for each of us which took almost 4 hours before Ethan started crying.
He must of slept late but now he want his bottle so I stopped what I was packing back up and went to feed him. When i was done feeding him and burping him I put him back in his bouncer seat which he loved now that he was older and more active. Ethan loved the toys that I attached to the seat. I then started cooking up the meat that we caught the day before along with a can of backed beans and box of mac and cheese. I was warming up the food when I herd Sophia and Carl start screaming and yelling for their mom and dad.
I motion to the boys and Matt knew to get Sam and go to the bed room and stay quiet. He grabbed Ethan from me and Sam going into the bedroom. He came back out and turned off all the lights, the Tv and food off while I went to see what was up. I grabbed my bow and arrows loading it before exiting the Rv making sure it was locked behind me. I had an arrow loaded as I rounded the conner where the crying kids were coming from. I was first one to arrive since I was closet the other women would be washing clothes. I motion for the kids to get behind me but they were to scared to listen.
"Carl Sophia get behind me now." I yelled harshly at them trying to get them to listen and they did.
I went to where the other adults were gathered to see that a walker was eating on a deer with Daryl's arrows in it at the edge of camp. I saw that some one had cut the head off the walker but didn't kill the brain yet. I rolled my eyes and bent down knifing the walker head killing it as I heard and saw the bushes move and I ready to fire but herd the soft foot steps of Daryl and moved back as he walked out of the woods. I headed back to the Rv where the boys were waiting to eat while they dealt with this.
I shut the Rv door behind me calling the boys out while I turned the tv back on low and restarted to heat the food we were going to be lunch. They were scared at first but I told them what had happened and they felt better knowing that it Sophia and Carl had over reacted more then anything. I served the warm food on to plate and put them on the table as I heard Daryl and Rick yelling at each other about Merle being left behind. I opened the storage room that used to be the master bedroom but I turned it into a huge storage room instead and started sleeping in bun room with the boys. Matt got top right, Sam got lower right, and I got the lower left.
I grabbed the extra set of crossbow bolts that I had grabbed at the hunting store months ago just in case I ran out of regular arrows. I locked the storage room back up before walking back over to the kitchen. I listen on the group outside and waited until Daryl, Rick, and Shane were done going all alpha male and they decided that they would go back for Merle and the guns. I open the Rv door heading over to Daryl's camp where he was getting ready to leave to go get his brother. I could tell he was really upset so I was going to keep it simple and just give him the extra bolts and wish him luck because even though I didn't like Merle he didn't deserve to die chain to a room in the sun.
"Daryl here take theses you might need them." I told him handing him the quiver full of crossbow bolts.
"Before you say anything I don't want anything but you to come back alive so be careful please." I said before he could start talking and after I said what I wanted I walked off before he could answer.
Back inside the Rv I finished up switching out the clothes before cleaning up the mess that I made during this process and but the boxes back up where they went. I then went and started making new flashcards for the boys. I was adding more medical and healing herbs to this batch along with more useful plants and how to use the plant or how to cook them. I was being as pacific as I could with the boys still being able to understand and learn them. I was about 10 in when I got a knock on the Rv door. I opened it up and Carol was standing there looking nervous.
"Yes Carol what can I do for you." I asked her
"We don't have enough food left to feed the group lunch and I was hoping to borrow some food from you. Glenn should bring some back today when he comes back with the group." Carol said looking around to make sure no one was listening to us.
"I doubt that but yes I will give you some of the older canned goods that went bad a few days ago. They should still be good so it won't matter much." I told her as I went back inside to the box of past due canned goods. I gave Carol the box knowing that it only had enough for one meal maybe one and half at most.
"Thank you I won't tell any one that they came from you just that we had them in the bottom of one of the boxes." Carol told me before leaving to go make lunch for the group.
I smiled at here before closing the Rv door back. I went to the bathroom and got the wet clothes out of the washer and put them in the laundry basket. I checked on the boys as I walked past them to take the wet clothes out to the clothes line to dry. They were watching tv while Ethan played in his bouncer happily. I was hanging up the clothes when I notice that Andrea and Amy her sister were taking a Canoe out with some fishing poles to try and catch dinner. I smiled and waved them as they past me. Amy smiled real big as she waved at me almost dropping her fishing pole in the process. I went back to hanging up the wet clothes to dry.
Shane was still giving me the stank eye from afar while Rick, T-dog, Daryl, and Glenn loaded up a box truck or moving truck to go get Merle and the guns from the city. The were pulling off as I was hanging up the last of the clothes. Rick smiled at me as he shut the roll down door of the moving truck. I nodded at him before turning to head back into the Rv. It was almost time to feed Ethan again and I still needed to make him a bottle. I made him 4 more bottles for the rest of the day to. I was finishing up with the bottles just as he started to cry from his seat getting my attention from where I was watching Sophia and Carl run around free again while Shane and Lori disappeared into the woods together to get some mushrooms that she had so called found to eat.
I was hoping that she would check to make sure they weren't poisonous before she ate any of them but i didn't know if she could tell poisonous from non-poisonous. Ethan let out another cry getting my attention again and I walked over and picked him up before giving him his bottle. I sat down on the couch beside Sam while I fed him. I burped him before watching tv with them with Ethan in my arms for another 30 minuets before he needed a diaper change. I changed him before rocking him to sleep for his afternoon nap. I stayed with him for almost 30 minuets before he was asleep. I notice it was 1:00 on the dot which meant he was right on schedule. We had ate lunch at 11:00 that day instead of 12 since we had gotten up early that day.
I went and got the boys started on school work while I finished changing out the summer clothes for winter in our bug-out-bags. I also replaced the older canned goods with newer ones as well switch out the water bottles so fresh ones were in there. I did the same for all of our bags as well as add an jacket to each one and an thick blanket to Ethan's. I also check the medical supplies making a list of things we still needed and what we wanted to have for Glenn on his next run.I put the bug-out-bags back in their spot in the front closet by the door for a quick and easy grab if needed. I did the same with the food storage after noticing that we were running low on pears, rice, and tea bags so I added that to the list.
I finished making sure that everything was put up in place for when we moved soon knowing after the walker activity we have had the past week that we wouldn't be staying here much longer. I checked on Ethan and he was still sound asleep. I went and finished up flashcards about medical plants uses and what could be made with each plant. I also made some simple salve, poultice, liniment, Infusion, Gel, and Herbal compresses on cards with a list of ingredients and steps to make them. I was about half way through when Ethan woke up crying so I quickly put the supplies away before going to grab him. He was ready to get up so I put him on my hip while I finished cleaning up the markers and pens from making the flashcards.
I put Ethan in his sling while I took the dry clothes off the clothes line and folded them up placing them in my basket. After finishing up I took them back inside the Rv and put the clothes where they belong which was in boxes for most the clothes only leaving out a few outfits for the warmer days for each of us. I notice that it was getting late so I got the boys together to head towards camp to help start supper while they played with the other children. I grabbed Ethan's diaper bag before locking the door behind me. Sam knew not to wonder far from where the adults were and Matt would watch him like a hawk for me while I was busy helping Carol make dinner. Andrea and Amy return with a lot of fish for us to clean and cook.
I started working on the first fish when I notice several people watching me a couple times before grabbing one of their own fish and trying. Carol had waited for the meat to cook it while I did most the cleaning of the fish. I notice that Carol had pan fried the fish with some breading she had found in the box of past due food I had given here. I was getting plates out and started putting fish on to the plates when Amy came out of the Rv and joined us around the fire. She helped by handing me empty plates and setting down full ones so I didn't have to serving to get more plates.
I handed Matt and Sam their plates first before opening up a jar of baby food Peas to eat along with some milk. I fed him first before even picking up my plate. I was eating bites here and there when Ethan was also swallowing his bites of baby food. It was my first time trying him out on it. I had picked peas for a couple reasons. One both Matt's and Sam's favorite baby food was peas aw well as still their favorite along with pears like I do. I was hoping that the would also be his. I dumped half the jar of mashed peas into his milk making a smooth green color slightly thicker milk like liquid. I shook the bottle real good before giving it to him. The others were watching me with a confused look on their faces.
"It's an old wise trick that people did years ago. I was taught it by a native overseas when I was helping at a local clinic. They do this to get the baby used to the different texture and taste of the baby food." I told them watching to make sure Ethan didn't choke on the new mixture since it was his first time doing this.
Ethan finished the half bottle of peas baby food and milk before I stopped and burped him and gave him the second bottle of the rest of his milk. He only took about half of that before refusing the rest of the bottle. This meant that he was full and didn't want anymore. I put the bottle away in his diaper bag before grabbing one of his blankets out the top of the bag. I wrapped him in it since it was getting a little cold. I had sent Matt to get my bow from the house since it was getting dark out some incase anything happen with all the waker activity we had had here the past few days. Ethan was sound asleep in the nook of my arm wrapped in his blanket.
I was talking to Sam about how he was going to be learning about medicinal plants. I told him about how I had made some flashcards for him and his brother to study. I was telling him about how we would have to leave the quarry soon and go on the road again like we had did for the first few days that the walkers had started walking around. I was explaining to him what that would mean big brother wise how he would need to help Matt out with Ethan when mommy went looking for supplies and to do what she says when I say it no questions asked. I heard the blood curdling scream of Amy who had disappeared when I was looking at Sam. I jumped up as the walkers started coming through the tress. I yanked Sam up and pulled him towards the picnic table putting him on it.
"Matt gun now watch your brothers." I told him handing Sam his brother who was now away and unhappy.
I pulled out my gun and started shooting heading towards a scared Sophia and Carol who didn't know what to do. I grabbed them pulling them along with my free hand to the table where they also climbed up on it. Carol had taken Ethan from Sam to help quiet him. Matt was guarding one side of the table while I did the other. We were running out of bullets but the walkers just kept coming and coming. I had never seen so many together. I had to grab the back up ammo out the bottom of the diaper bag passing it to Matt so he would have ammo. I was down to my last two bullets dropping a couple of walkers who got to close to the table for my liking.
"Matt were going to have to switch to bow and knifes as we move to the Rv I want you to lead while I take up the rear. Only kill the ones you have to." I told him before getting Sam, Sophia, and Carol who was holding Ethan covering his ears and motion towards the Rv.
They nodded as Matt lead the way only shooting the ones that got really close almost on top of us. I tossed Matt the key to the Rv and we approached it. One male walker with his leg broken and missing half his face came out of no were and grabbed Sam. It was about to bite him when Sam slammed his hunting knife into it's skull killing it getting gasps from Carol and Sophia who were shocked at what had just happened. Matt opened it just as more gun shots went off and Rick, T-Dog, Glenn, and Daryl came down the quarry road opening fire on the dead that was still standing. Daryl heads our way as Rick starts yelling for his family cause even more noise. I knew then that if things didn't change we would all be dead snd soon.
I pushed them inside the Rv. Matt went straight to where we kept the clips of ammo full and ready to go and passed me several before putting a new clip into his gun. I shut the Rv door with Sam who had taken Ethan back from Carol was rocking him back to sleep in his arms. I smiled at this knowing that my boys would be just fine if I died but I wished that we would never have to find our anytime soon. I walked Carol and Sophia over to Dale's Rv before going back to mine where my kids were at waiting on me. It had been a long day and eventful night. I was told that tomorrow we would be leaving after burying the bodies of our group and burning the rest which made no since to me. We should just burn all the bodies to prevent contaminating the soil.
I fed Ethan his night time bottle while Matt and Sam got ready for and in bed. I burped and changed him before rocking him to sleep. I put him in his basket before changing and getting in to bed myself after locking up the Rv.
