UPDATE: OMG Just wanna say that I think this chapter is A LOT better then when I first wrote it.

Emily walked her way to school the next morning. Her morning routine went on as it did every other morning; she got ready, prevented her dad from sending himself to the hospital via oven, and headed to school with no problems. Though school work wasn't really on her mind at the moment. The person, or persons in this case, on her mind was Yugi and his friends. They were a lively bunch, no doubt about that, but she guessed that's what made everyday for them exciting. At one point, Atem came to her mind. She smiled, but then stopped to wonder why he came into her thoughts the most.

"I guess it's because he's Egyptian like me." She shrugged, her smile still on her face, as she made her way inside the school building. As she entered her classroom and looked around, Yugi saw her and smiled,

"Hey Emily." Emily waved and walked over to him and the others.

"Hey guys. How is today treating you so far?" She asked.

"Pretty good. We have a half a day today since the teachers have a meeting." Bakura explained.

"Thank God for that. I have too much on my mind from all the studying they put us through. It's only the third day of school for cryin' out loud!" Joey leaned back in his chair, letting out a long, exasperated sigh. Kelly rolled her eyes, a smirk on her face,

"Oh yes, studying was the ONLY thing on your mind." Joey turned to her, eyebrow raised,

"Whatta' getting at?"

"Oh nothing. Not like hamburgers, video games, or your crush Mai was on your mind at all! Nope, no siree!" Joey blushed madly as Tristan held back a laugh.

"HEY! I thought we all agreed that Mai is just a FRIEND."

"Sure. You keep telling yourself that." Tristan joked. The group could have sworn they saw steam blow from Joey's ears as he turned to Tristan,

"This doesn't involve you! And at least I can talk to girls! Kelly here has a hard enough time blurting out words to boys at all!" It was Kelly's face that went red this time as her hair covered her eyes, a pout look on her face,

"I-I can't help it. I'm not good around them..." Joey smirked. The time for revenge was nigh!

"Ya you keep believing that. Girls your age should already have a boyfriend! Tea is an exception cause she's scary but we won't go into that." Tea felt a pulse mark on her head,

"E-Excuse me?!" She yelled. Emily blinked, but continued to watch the group. They certainly were full of energy today, though she wondered if this is how every thing went EVERY day. Kelly fidgeted in her seat before standing up swiftly,

"I um...I need to be alone!" She pushed Joey to the ground in a huff before speeding past the teacher who had just entered the room.

"Did I...Miss something...?" He asked, completely confused as to why one of his students ran out; and why one was on the floor. Before Joey could recover from his fall, trying to stand up, Tea slapped him upside the head.

"Nice going Joey!"

"OW! What did I do?!"

"You deliberately pointed out that Kelly has trouble with boys! You know how much she hates that!"

"That slipped my mind ok?! I was just joking! I didn't mean to upset her!" Emily looked at him and then the door way where Kelly left,

"That doesn't matter anymore! Go apologize to her right NOW!" Tea ordered.

"Ok Ok! No need to keep yelling!" Joey sighed, about to leave the room, but Emily stopped him,

"Can I come too?" Joey looked at the slightly younger girl. "I want to help. I know I only met you guys yesterday but..." Emily felt at a loss for words, not quite sure what to say. Joey thought for a minute before smirking,

"Kay, let's go kid." Emily smiled widely and looked towards the others,

"You guys wanna come too?" Yugi nodded,

"Kelly is our friend after all." All of them nodded and walked out of the class room, still leaving the teacher dumbfounded.

"Seriously. Can anyone explain to me what happened...?"

Kelly was sitting on the roof top, her knees hugged to her chest, trying to clear her mind of the whole conversation.

"Girls like you should already have a boyfriend!" The words kept ringing in her head as her buried face continued to turn red on occasion.

"What are you doing up here? Shouldn't you be taken in a lesson in school?" A voice asked. Kelly looked up and saw Atem standing there,

"Oh, hey Atem...What are you doing here?" Kelly asked him. The older man turned to the view of the city.

"I come here once in a while to check up on everyone. May I ask you the same?" Atem asked looking back at the girl. Kelly sighed,

"Nothing much, just being all down in the dumps. What's it look like?" Atem blinked but continued to look at her. He understood what Kelly sounded like when she was angry or depressed.

"Why's that?" He asked.

"Ask Joey...Thinking that I can't get anyone for a boyfriend..." Kelly explained.

"Gees, make me feel more guilty why don't ya?" Atem and Kelly turned towards the rest of the group. "And for the record, I didn't say anything like that." Tristan turned to him,

"Um, you sorta did."

"Again. Doesn't involve you." Joey pulled the other boys earlobe and went to apologize, "Look, I'm sorry okay? I didn't mean to upset you or hurt your feelings like that." Kelly turned to him before nodding and looking frontward,

"Nah, it's ok. I'm just really sensitive when it comes to these things..." She sighed. "I just...I'm just not really comfortable around guys. Maybe your right. Maybe I don't really have the potential to win someone's heart. Most guys my age take one look at me and think I'm some sort of weird girl that has a lot of issues." Sara said sadly. Yugi blinked, before sending the girl a sad stare. It's true that Kelly spoke her mind when she was down, but to think so lowly of oneself...Emily walked over and sat next to her,

"You shouldn't give up so easily." Emily said as the burrnet girl looked at her. "I'm sure you'll find someone. But if you keep doubting yourself, chances are you'll never meet that person. And you know, being who you are isn't so bad. Your not like the girls that love to shop and such. Your mellow, unique, crazy, but in a good way. You make people laugh, feel better, and you help them when ever they need it. It's what they call individuality. I've only known you for a day and I at least know that much about you." Emily said as Kelly stared at her, then smiled.

"Thanks Emily." Kelly said as Emily smiled,

"Hey, it's the least I can do for one of my first friends."

"Wait...First friends?" Tristan asked. Emily nodded.

"Yup. Well, it kinda feels like it. When I was young, I never really had friends that were my age. They always took advantage of me so I didn't really want to make friends. That probably why I became so shy around new people and usually spent time with my family, which is why we are so close. My mom get's sick easily though, which is why she's in the hospital a lot; even now." The gang went wide eyed.

"Y-Your mom's in the hospital?!" Yugi asked worriedly. Emily nodded and looked up to the sky,

"She has a problem with her heart that can't really be treated. The doctors run lots of tests to treat her, but I'm not too sure if it works or not. And having me, only made her condition worse. They warned her that having me was certain death, but she beat all the odds. She risked her life to have me, and it put a lot of strain on her heart. According to the reports from the doctors, she could die any day now." Atem and the others lowered their eyes,

"That's just awful..." Tea whispered. Emily nodded, but closed her eyes and gave a smile,

"It's alright though. She's strong and hangs in there. I'm proud of my mom, so I told myself I'd hang in there too. Maybe there will come a time when she'll be better and can be at home a lot more like she used to. I visit and call her as much as I can. My dad wishes he could, but he's the boss of a company and can't cut in lots of time. He's lucky to even get to call my mom at some points. I'm worried that he won't see her until holidays...But my mom still is happy that he's the one she married. That alone makes me happy." Everyone smiled. Emily sure didn't look it, but she knew her stuff. Kelly looked up at the sky,

"Maybe your right Emily. Being yourself, hanging in there, and doing what you can isn't so bad." Emily grinned,

"That's right." The two girls chuckled a bit before Kelly looked at her watch, and had a panic attack.

"Oh man! Class is half way done already!" Yugi and the others then panicked.

"GAH! We're gonna have to make up a ton of notes!" Joey exclaimed running into the building, followed by Tristan, Tea, Bakura, and Kelly. Emily got up and brushed off and ran with Yugi, but before they did Atem stopped them,

"That was a kind thing you did Emily." Emily and Yugi turned to him and she sent him a smile,

"Oh it was nothing. If thank anyone, thank my mom. She raised me quite well." Emily bowed and ran with Yugi back into the building. Atem smiled and looked up,

"Something tells me things will get very interesting now that Emily's here."
