Another short little drabble (idk if that's the right word but I'm not checking) for this fun series! If you have suggestions you think would be fun, comment them! I'm open to prompts! I do this series for casual fun, but I'll make a list!
This takes place RIGHT before Bringing in Brainwave starts, for any curious! Most of these won't have specific places in the timeline mess, but I'll try to remember to point out when and if they do!
Enjoy!
Pt 2: The Theory Board
Todoroki had hidden his theory board away within the dorm building soon after he started to amass too many theories for a single notebook. He'd had no trouble buying the board, of course. Getting it snuck into the dorm was another matter. Sero had been a little too eager in helping him sneak it in, but at least he had promised not to reveal where it was.
No matter how much the others begged—or threatened—him to spill the secret location.
It had cost Todoroki a good number of yen on exotic and rare fruit for Sero to try, but it wasn't his money and it was worth it, in his opinion. Whatever odd, out of place but not worth contesting charge that he can place on that credit card he would take in a heartbeat.
Finding the spot to store it was harder. He'd had to scout out his options, and he was fairly limited. There weren't many spare rooms in the dorms that he could stow it away for very long without it being found. The gym downstairs was used as often as the laundry room across the hall, the bedrooms were out of the question since Aizawa and other teachers checked them regularly as well, and he couldn't leave it out in the open in the common room. He had not doubts that someone would do something with it.
He didn't want to assume the worst, but he knew that even with the best intentions, everything in the dorms was liable to be broken. They already had to replace the wii at least once and it's not been very long since moving in.
After reviewing the rooming charts, he had it. An empty room that was going unused right beside Satou's room. It was close, it was discrete, the room remained unlocked because it wasn't in use, and he could easily sneak into it late at night when he couldn't sleep to review his theories. He'd even bought colored strings, to use as he'd seen in the movies they watched in the common room.
Sero and he had rolled it in during a very small window of time between the end of classes and everyone else coming back to the dorms after training. Sero had feigned wanting to do dinner prep (which he did end up doing, so he hadn't lied, Todoroki argued) and Todoroki simply complained of a headache as a side effect of his Quirk.
It wasn't a lie, either, technically. He hadn't had a headache, at the time, but he did get them due to his Quirk's temperature shifting. It just happened to be convenient that this was an excuse that would be backed up by Recovery Girl—the one woman in the entire school no one would dispute.
Todoroki tapped the end of the pen on his chin. Mineta had only recently been expelled, leaving a rare chance for a new student to come into their dorm, and he was curious who would be chosen. There weren't a lot of candidates, to be frank, so his pickings were slim. Midoriya was adamant about Shinsou getting the spot, and he had to agree with that. Out of all the candidates, Shinsou had both the drive and the potential—and Aizawa would no doubt have fought Kan for the kid if there had been a slot open in Class B's roster.
He set the piece of paper against the board, pinning it in place. It wasn't much of a theory, not because it was impossible, but because it was obvious. He'd been hoping to have more competition to look through, but he didn't think any of the other students who would have likely applied would have much of a chance after Midoriya submitted his proposal to Nedzu. He had thought, briefly, of moving the theory board to Mineta's old room so it was closer to the ground floor, easier to get to, but it was just polite to leave that room open for the new addition when they came. Even with the elevator, the fifth floor was a little far.
Todoroki stretched, popping his back, and sighing. He had to sleep a little bit before classes started the next morning. They might have surprise training if, depending on Aizawa's mood, probably, and he wasn't about to fall behind thanks to a hobby. He slunk out of the room, shutting the door behind him, and slipped back into his own room.
He was already up and nearly done getting ready when Kaminari shoved his door open with hardly a knock.
"Hey!"
"What if I was still getting dressed?" Todoroki asks, pulling his blazer over his shoulders. Kaminari shrugged.
"I wouldn't have minded—ow!"
A fist had come down onto Kaminari's head. Bakugou then kicked him into Todoroki's room, sending Kaminari a sneer. Kaminari groaned, rolling over and sending Todoroki a wink. Todoroki ignored it and turned his attention to Bakugou.
"What do I owe the invasion to?"
"Deku wanted your notes on the new kid who's coming in," Bakugou says. "We know you have some."
"I'll get them."
Todoroki slipped past Bakugou and headed straight for the unused room. Kaminari and Bakugou looked after him, curious, when he hadn't simply grabbed something from his backpack or desk. They followed after him, Bakugou leaning on the wall and Kaminari practically leaning on Todoroki's back when Todoroki went to open the door.
It swung open and all three boys froze. Aizawa stood in the room, staring with arms crossed, at the board. Todoroki noticed, now that he wasn't half asleep, that the light was on. He hadn't shut if off the previous night. He vaguely recalled letting his hand swipe the area of the switch, but no memory of actually feeling it make contact.
Bakugou kicked off the wall and walked briskly down the hall without a word. Kaminari whipped his head around after him, silently pleading. Bakugou flipped him off, mouthing over his shoulder a quick 'not dying for this!'. Kaminari turned slowly back to Aizawa.
He looked at the two. He looked tired. Exhausted, really. In a deeper sense than just caffeine withdrawal. He uncrossed his arms, motioning to the board in a simple "why" gesture. Kaminari snorted, and fell into a fit of laughter. Satou poked his head out of his room, looking curiously at the two. Sero left his own room as well, spotted Todoroki standing like a statue in the hall, and fled down the stairs.
Todoroki wasn't sure where to begin. He thought for a few moments, since it became apparent that Aizawa wasn't going to speak first. Kaminari was wheezing by the time he'd finally settled on something.
"I ran out of room in my notebook."
Kaminari flew into another fit of laughter, leaning on the wall. Satou peeked around the door frame and gaped. Aizawa just continued to stare. He pinched the bridge of his nose, looking down, then to the ceiling.
"Just…" he shook his head. "Get rid of it."
"…Yes, sir."
Todoroki shuffled to the side as Aizawa left, successfully flicking off the light. He turned to Todoroki when he hit the stairs.
"Todoroki."
"Yes, sir?"
"How long has it been there?"
"…Most of the year—"
"Of course, it has been," Aizawa sighed, disappearing down the staircase.
Todoroki stood there another moment before he quickly ducked into the room and snatched the paper off the board. He grabbed the board and started to wheel it out of the room. He shoved it into Kaminari's hand on his way past to his room. If nothing else, at least Aizawa wasn't going to throw it into the dumpster.
