Disclaimer: Right, sorry I'm so very late, writer's block, life etc... No real excuse, just that it's so easy to lose track and forget about things. This is a little slow because I still have no clue how to muddle through this particular part, but hopefully you enjoy it a little bit. Many apologies, and thank you to everyone who has reviewed, I really do appreciate it.
"Tuck in now Harry," Mrs. Weasley poured some more of what had to be the most delicious stew in the world into his bowl. The ride back had been a bit of a somber affair, and the delightful, warm and greeting atmosphere of the Burrow was most welcome. Still Harry's favorite place in the world, the kitchen had become his favorite room, between the oddities like the clock and the fantastical bits of magic here and there; wondrous smells tantalized his sensed. Mrs. Weasley was a most excellent cook and Harry felt that you could go anywhere in the world and never come across a finer table than that set by Mrs. Weasley.
"Mum, you'll make make him fatter than his uncle at this rate." Charlie said. He was only joking but that brought a look to Mrs. Weasley's face. Harry shook his head apologetically at Charlie. Harry felt badly about today, it was partially his fault after all, though everyone assured him it was in no way his fault. Ginny and Ron both stole a glance at him, and before anything could be said, the oldest child felt the need to steer things away as was his duty.
"No way, Harry will be running it all off tomorrow, aye Harry?" Bill prompted. "After all, there's loads to go and investigate, you did say this was your first visit out in the country didn't you?"
"It is." Harry nodded quite vigorously. Bill smiled, and turned to Ginny. Who was smiling quite contentedly at the dinner table. She passed another buttered roll to Harry, she smiled at Bill.
"I'm sure you'll be running Harry ragged showing him all of your favorite spots, no worries Mum." Mrs. Weasley smiled fondly at Ginny.
"I've no doubt, now the two of you run around but stay close to the property no more disappearing."
"No worries Mrs. Weasley, we'll most definitely be back in time for lunch." Harry said before he had another bite. Arthur smiled and then frowned slightly.
"There's some business I have to attend to in the morning down at the Ministry Molly, will you be all right?" She smiled and nodded.
"Of course, the twins will hardly burn the house down." At which point everyone turned to Fred and George who did their best to look quite horrified that anyone could even suggest such a thing. Harry laughed at the faces they made, having known the twins for the short time he had, he had absolutely no doubt it was in their ability to do so, and while they might not burn the house down, causing enough trouble to make their mother shout seemed, at least to Harry, to be their favorite source of entertainment.
"I think he meant me Mrs. Weasley, but I promise I won't be any trouble at all." Harry said. Before Arthur could reply Mrs. Weasley shook her head gently and responded with the same kindly manner she had treated Harry with since his arrival.
"Of course you won't dear, you and Ginny take Ron out and have yourselves a good time, and I'll have a nice lunch ready for you."
"Thank you very much Mrs. Weasley, and this stew is amazing." she smiled and patted Harry on the head. Bill shook his head as Ginny took two more buttered rolls and handed one to Harry, and then told Ron he was fat. The three were chatting away between mouthfuls of stew. Ron interjected, and once again his mother told him not to eat with his mouthful.
The night continued in such a fashion, only Bill and Charlie shared a couple looks here and there, they wanted to talk about something, but it would have to wait. It was a verbal agreement, that they never bring up that conversation in front of Mrs. Weasley. Arthur Weasley caught them and coughed, reminding them that said subject was in fact off limits, quietly of course.
Everyone went to bed in a pleasant mood, Mrs. Weasley's knitting was under way as was the washing of dishes and clothes. Harry, and the younger of the Weasley children were up for a while, as Bill and Charlie told fantastic stories, and they explained more to Harry about the world in which they lived. Right before they began to get into their adventures at school Mrs. Weasley sent everyone off to bed, and Bill and Charlie went upstairs to talk quietly while everyone else, excepting the parents went off to a good night's rest in their beds.
Harry snuggled into Ron's bed when he heard he door open, he turned and there stood Ron.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Can I sleep with you?" Harry nodded and opened the blanket.
"Hey Ron?" Harry asked slightly timid.
"Yeah?"
"Thanks."
"You're welcome Harry."
Harry woke up to the most delicious smell of sausages and pancakes and he and Ron got dressed and laughed all the way down. Ginny was tapping her foot at the base of the stair waiting for them to arrive. She looked quite cross till she smiled and hugged Harry. Ron yawned and they sat down to a delicious meal of pancakes, sausages, eggs, milk, and juice. Harry ate till he was stuffed, and then Mrs. Weasley pressed a little more down him. He was 'far too thin' for her liking. 'It's not healthy to be so small' was another comment Harry had become accustomed to. Ginny pulled he and Ron out the door and they all three ran around yard, bundled up nice and warm of course.
Harry was fascinated by the vast amount of land, hiding places, and things to explore. He stared in awe, and was no longer sure whether he loved the house or the yard more. He changed that of course once Ron said he was cold and he realized he himself was frozen to the born.
"Harry! Ginny! Ron! Lunch!"
"Coming!" Harry bellowed out before either one could. He turned to them.
"Well, are you coming or what?" Ginny laughed while Ron shivered, and they all ran till they were blue in the face.
They ate lunch in front of the roaring fire, leftover stew and warm buttered rolls. Harry gasped and everyone looked up.
"It's snowing."
"Now now dear, there will plenty of time for you to explore the property, how did you enjoy yourself today." Harry then launched into their adventures making the gathered Weasleys laugh. Bill simply shook his head at Harry and Charlie was smiling as Fred and George engaged Harry in a game where Ron and Ginny tried to help him cheat. Mrs. Weasley was starting dinner when she called out to the younger kids.
"Your father will be home soon, go upstairs and play. And tell the boys to bring the dishes." Bill and Charlie cleaned up and Harry followed Fred and George upstairs, Ginny and Ron close behind. It was some time before they heard Mr. Weasley announce himself. They came downstairs, and all stopped dead as Mr. Weasley did not look pleased, he perked up however on seeing the children.
"Did everyone have fun today?" he asked, and though he tried, everyone could see something was very wrong.
"Yes, Harry can regale you with tales of his misadventures later, why don't we let them play just outside where they can soak each other with snow balls before dinner?" He turned to Ginny. "Eh Gin, you and Harry can team up to take out Ron and the twins."
"Now Bill it's a bit too cold for that." Arthur pointed out and then looked at Bill and his wife. "Ah but considering..."
"Can I go see the attic?" everyone turned. Harry stood there and swallowed. Bill and Arthur looked between each other.
"The attic?" Bill asked not bothering or able to hide his confusion. Harry shrugged.
"It's the only part of the house I haven't seen." Arthur smiled at Harry gratefully and Charlie sighed exasperated, followed by a wink.
"Very well, come along, we'll go up to the attic," he stopped and turned, "and scare the pants off Ron and my annoying younger twin brothers. Harry and Ginny on my team!" Charlie grabbed Harry and with Ginny latched on the three ran up the stairs, followed by shouts of indignation from Ron, Fred, and George. Bill shook his head and turned to his father, who was watching the children run up, and waited until they were quite far away before turning to his wife and eldest son.
"Well, I'm sure I can trust you to fill in Charlie, there's a few things we need to talk about." He lead the way into the kitchen and Bill's first thought was to the way Ginny had all ready latched on to Harry, and there would be real trouble if she had to let go, for both of them.
"Mom! Charlie is a dirty cheat!" Ron yelled as he came downstairs, Bill in the lead having gone up to fetch them. Once everyone was downstairs Bill groaned.
"Charlie, come up with me, I think I've forgotten to tidy up." Harry and Ginny stopped and turned to face each other. Fred and George turned and stared at their older brothers. Charlie turned and eyed the twins.
"Should we check your room while we're up there." The twins vigorously shook their heads and marched into the kitchen. Harry pulled Ginny over to the table behind Ron and the three sat together, Harry watched them as they went up. A funny feeling settled in the pit of his stomach all during dinner.
Though Harry's stomach was full, he tossed and turned, something was very wrong, and he could feel it, but no one would say anything, and he didn't want to ask. He was afraid that he might be the answer. He was distracted from his thoughts by the sound of the door creaking open. He turned to greet Ron, but instead it was Ginny.
"Did you want some company?" Harry smiled and opened the blanket, Ginny snuggled in and held his hand.
"Everything will be all right Harry, you're not going anywhere."
"Thanks Ginny." They smiled at each other, and all of a sudden Harry felt that awful feeling go away and while Ginny hummed a lullaby Harry felt himself falling asleep to a warm and fuzzy feeling.
Bill had decided, that while his mother didn't feel anything should be said, he should at least talk to Harry a little about what could be happening. He felt Harry might need some reassurance, and in he and Charlie, Harry had found a little bit of guidance. He opened the door quietly but stopped, there in bed lay Harry and Ginny curled up together, and Bill decided that what he had to say could wait until morning. He closed the door smiling and left them going upstairs to his room and to bed.
