A/N: Another long wait, but a long chapter with tons of references to the first and second story which I think fit in nicely. We get to see Mission take on an even bigger leadership role and put her developing skills to the test. For those that are reading thank you and let me know what you think.

The hum of the hyperdrive filled the corridors of the ship as it hurtled through space toward Eadu. The whole of NightFury Squad as well as the newcomers were sat in the main hold, neither group was looking at each other though it was more of a concentrated effort which only added to the tension.

Mission walked in a looked over the groups and sighed out. The new comers, Cassian, Jyn, the giant imperial droid, and a few others that weren't in the war room. They were sitting next to each other but even so they were separate, alone. Cassian and the droid were sitting quietly by themselves. Jyn was by herself, and a man in a fly suit was fidgeting and muttering to himself softly.

Mission went over to Cassian first, his eyes held a tiredness that she had seen all too often, a resolve for him to finish the mission, whatever that was. As she neared him she watched as he stiffened up and focused on her. even in space on a friendly ship he couldn't relax.

"A bit jumpy, don't you think?" Mission stated as she stood before him.

"I didn't make this long by letting my guard down." Cassian replied shortly.

"Neither have we." Mission answered in kind.

"You don't trust us, do you?" Mission said wisely, as she looked over the room.

The question wasn't just about the NightFury squad but everyone on the ship as a whole. Mission looked back up at Cassian who hadn't taken his eyes off of her.

"I get the feeling that you trust too easily." Cassian answered.

"Once, I did. And you heard the results of that in the War Room. Sure it changed me, but my friends and family were there to help me pick up the pieces." Mission replied as she looked to Jyn.

"She's trying to pick up the pieces as well, saving her father, getting dragged around like an asset to be rid of. I've got a few glances that you two have thrown each other, if you want to get the info from her father, you are going to have to help her save him." Mission continued trying to reason with Cassian.

"Just because he is working for the Empire doesn't mean that what she said isn't true. People can make mistakes and atone for them. Just look at my parents, they were once part of the Empire and for over 20 years now they have been against them. Even your droid there is an Imperial droid, reprogramed, but Imperial none the less. If he can be reprogramed and trusted by you, why can't we get the same trust and we are on the same side." Mission left with a final remark.

As Mission walked away from Cassian he looked up to his droid who was left speechless, not a trait that befell the droid often. He looked to her speaking with Jyn in hushed tones as conflict in him rose. He wanted to trust them, maybe just her, but he had survived this long without trust and he had his own orders to follow. He turned away and inspected his weapons trying to put his mind at ease.

"It's just another mission. It's just another mission." He chanted softly to himself.

The proximity alarm went off and everyone readied themselves to come out of hyperspace. The jolt rocked the aging ship and as soon as it was over the man in the pilot suit made his way into the cockpit to help guide Hiccup and Astrid. They entered the atmosphere of the planet and the ship was battered by wind and rain as they had arrived during a devastating storm. Hiccup activated the stealth protocol on the NightfFury and announced over the internal comm to strap in as they weaved through the canyon of jagged peaks. Through the view port a small base came into view through the storm and the pilot was frantically shouting directions at Hiccup and Astrid. After clipping the edge of the canyon one too many times a shock thundered through the ship throwing everyone in their seats and scattering weapons and supplies.

"Alright enough of this, if we don't land we won't have a ship to fly out of here with!" Astrid shouted as she looked for a suitable place to land.

She didn't have to look long as she placed the ship down carefully just behind a ridge not far from the base. Everyone unstrapped themselves and began their final preparations. Jyn hopped up and was waiting by the docking ramp ready to run out into the dark to save her father. Mission saw her and recognized the look in her eyes, the tension in her body. She carefully walked over and placed a hand on Jyn's shoulder.

"We need to come up with a plan before we leave, running out blindly into the unknown is a great plan for failure, I would know. Come up to the main hold and we can come up with a plan to save your father." Mission said softly as she gently guided her back from the ramp.

Mission and Jyn arrived in the main hold to find everyone gathered around the holo-table going over the plan. Hiccup looked up and smiled to see Mission in tow with Jyn.

"As I was saying, a small team will make their way across the terrain and up to the landing platform. Scans show a ladder going all the way up but watch your step. The rain will have made the rungs slippery and it's a long fall." Hiccup cautioned grimly.

"Astrid and I will provide overwatch from the ridge, while the droid and pilot fix the ship as best they can. I get the feeling we will need a speedy get away. The rest of you stay here and guard the ship. Keep an eye out for incoming ships as well, I'd like to keep the surprises to a minimum." Hiccup finished.

Everyone nodded in agreement with the exception of Cassian. He kept looking over his blaster which Mission thought looked suspiciously long for being part of the team to be on the landing pad. Before she could bring it up the room was rushed with activity as everyone tested their comm links and made their way to their positions.

Gathered by the loading ramp, Cami pull the lever to lower it and as the seal was broken an icy wind rushed through. The wind whipped wildly back and forth and the rain came down in sheets. Throwing an arm up to block the wind and rain, Mission instinctively turned her head back only to be met with a sight that looked straight out of a fairytale. Her parents, along with the rest of the NightFury squad decked out in their old armor. Armor they hadn't worn in 15 years. Blacked out and faded with age, their variation of Stormtrooper armor was a site to be hold. With an aura like heroes of old radiating off them, they looked every bit of the legends that everyone thought them to be. She beamed with pride as the wind and rain lightened up and the teams marched off the ramp into in the night.

Jyn, Mission, Meetra, Heather, and Cassian were to make their way to the landing platform via the ladder at the far end of the canyon, with Hiccup and Astrid providing overwatch from the ridge above them. Cami, the twins, and Fishlegs would guard the ship and call out any reinforcements that headed toward the base, while the pilot and droid repaired what they could on the ship. As solid a plan as any Mission still a suspicion that Cassian was up to something else, she reminded herself to keep an eye on him.

The teams split off with reminders to watch each other's back and keep the comm chatter to a minimum in case it was intercepted. The rain soaked through Mission's cloak as the wind rushed by causing most of them to stumble on the uneven ground. The wind and rain made in impossible to look straight ahead so the team was forced to turn their heads to block to the rain. Her team marched on and just as they reached the ladder a quiet voice came over the comm channel, Hiccup and Astrid were in position.

Mission looked up the face of the rock wall and watched the ladder get smaller and smaller the higher it went. Exhaling she turned to the team and encouraged them up one by one. As Meetra brought up the last of the group Mission realized that Cassian was not with them.

"Crap, Meetra where's Cassian?" Mission asked hurriedly.

Her question got the rest of the team to look back at the empty space where Cassian was supposed to be. Mission cursed to herself as she figured he must have slipped away with their heads turned to block out the rain.

"Where did he go?" Meetra and Heather asked at the same time.

"I have an idea, keep going with Jyn and help get her father I'm going to find Cassian. Keep it off the comm as well I don't want Jyn freaking out or Cassian to know that we made him." Mission ordered as she raced back through the canyon.

Heather and Meetra nodded and turned to see that Jyn was further up the ladder and didn't hear them. With a quickened pace they started their own climb, weary of Hiccup's warning as the rung were wet and cold from the rain.

Mission raced through the canyon occasionally stopping and taking a brief moment to look up the side of the walls for Cassian. She wasn't able to look for long as the wind and rain would sting her eyes and she was forced to look away.

Pushing on she continued to look up the walls when she kicked an object on the ground, feeling it more than hearing it she looked down and picked up a viewfinder. Realizing that is must have been Cassian's, and they likely fell off due to the storm she pulled them up and scanned the walls of the canyon. The viewfinders provided some protection against the wind and rain so she was able to get a better look at the walls. As she was scanning a section of the wall a bolt of lightning flashed across the sky and she was able to see the brief reflection of light off Cassian's rifle, which was kitted out in sniper mode.

With a sickening feeling of why he was up there Mission scanned the wall and found the path that Cassian took, securing the viewfinder to her belt she raced for the path hoping to make it before she was too late.

Scaling her way up the wall Mission had to catch herself a few times as the slick rocks threatened to sending her hurtling towards the unforgiving jagged peaks below. Nearing Cassian's position a crackle came over the comm and Cami's voice came over.

"We have an Imperial Shuttle inbound, looks like someone important is here." Cami reported.

The ship passed overhead, heading towards the landing pad. Quickening her pace Mission hurried along the rocks to Cassian, before he or whoever landed made things more difficult.

Making her way up the last of the rock path she came upon a small vantage point that overlooked the landing pad. She could just make out some movement on the pad when she pulled her viewfinder out and scanned the area. A group of scientists were gathered in front of an imperial officer dressed in white surrounded by Stormtrooper's clad in black armor eerily similar to her parents.

She pulled the viewfinders away and looked up at Cassian just a few yards away, his eye glued to the scope and the rifle aimed at the landing pad.

"Cassian don't!" Mission shouted over the storm.

Startled by her voice and proximity, Cassian pulled away from the rifle. His look of surprise changed in an instant as he glared thunderously at her.

"What are you doing here?!" He shouted at her.

"I could ask you the same thing. My parents have overwatch, you were supposed to be with us on the landing platform. I knew your rifle looked strange before we left the ship, who are you targeting down there?!" Mission asked, though she had a sinking feeling of who he had his sights on.

His silence was more than enough of an answer for her. She was livid, outraged, and felt a sense of betrayal that she hadn't felt in 15 years. Despite being on the same side he was going to follow his own mission and take out Jyn's father.

"You are no different than he was. Killing your own allies to further your own bastardized version of the Rebellion. You would take out an ally, Jyn's father and for what?! To use him as a martyr, to prove a point, because you've been lost for so long you can't recognize a sliver of hope staring you in the face. Jyn heard his message, you know what he risked to get that to us. If you've been in this fight for as long as we have you know that people take risks, on BOTH sides. We need all the help we can get and a great way to make sure that we get it is to not kill those who took a risk for us." Mission argued passionately as the rain and wind carried her words.

Cassian looked at her thoughtfully, mulling over her words. He had done many things for the Rebellion, some of them good, others not so much. He didn't agree with these orders but following them in the past had worked out before, so he went along with them. This girl though, the way she speaks of the past, the passing comments of her battles, physical and mental. She had seen her share of war and the ruthlessness of the Empire. He understood that, better than most.

But what he saw on Jedha, the destruction of this weapon and the man who helped build it so close in his grasp. He had pulled the trigger before, why was he struggling this time, who were these people? Jyn, Mission, what were they doing here, what were they doing to him? He looked back at Jyn and before he could utter a word the screams of X-wings cutting through the air stopped him.

"What the hell are they doing here?" Mission called out, just as startled as Cassian.

"Either the pilot or droid called for reinforcements after that shuttle landed, apparently that is some high-ranking imperial!" Cami's shouted into the comm.

Mission pulled up her viewfinder to see the landing pad in chaos. Jyn, Meetra, and Heather were ducked behind crates firing at Stormtrooper's trying to make their way to Jyn's father. The X-wings unfurled their weapons and began a strafing run on the landing pad, as Mission looked on in horror.

"Call them off we have friendlies on that pad!" She screamed into the comm.

Just as her words came out the first laser bolts exploded across the pad, leaving heaps of broken and twisted metal. Bodies of Stormtrooper's were strewn about as a second wave of fighters moved into position.

"Move! We have to get down there and get them out!" Mission ordered as she shoved Cassian.

"And how will we get out?!" He questioned.

"I'm on it. Cami, Fishlegs, send Toothless and Luna to the landing pad we are going to need a pick up!" Cami called into the comm.

"Copy that, they'll be waiting for you." Fishlegs replied.

He turned to the two creatures as they squeezed their way through the ship and down the loading ramp. Fishlegs ran after just as they stepped off the ship.

"Be careful out there, you are bound to get shot at by both the Imperials and by us. Not everyone got a look at you at the base." Fishlegs warned the pair.

With a series of grunts and nods Toothless and Luna roared out into the night as they sped off into the night to protect their own.

The attack was well underway and the canyon was drowned in explosions and laser fire. The Empire had scrambled their own TIE fighters, which screamed across the sky in dogfights. Hiccup was picking off targets one by one with his Mandalorian sniper rifle, as Astrid called them out. They had a front row seat to the chaos unfolding before them, and though their daughters were down in the thick of it, they couldn't help but smirk as the scenes around them reminded them of Kashyyyk and their part in that battle.

Hiccup was proud to hear Mission over the Comm as she called for Toothless and Luna to pick them up. He was able to watch as she and Cassian traversed the rocks and cliffs to the battle on the platform. He adjusted his aim and cleared a path for them all the way to the platform.

The rain started to pick up and the water started to drip down the scope and into his eye causing him to look away and wipe his eyes. As he looked away a massive explosion rocked the platform forming a massive fracture down the width of it. Hiccup and Astrid looked at each other and looked back through their viewfinder and scope to see the squad had been knocked to the ground and Imperial forces were scattered in heaps.

He could just make out Jyn crawling her way to a body and shaking him frantically. Hiccup's heart dropped as he realized what had happened. He closed his eyes and looked away for a moment before returning to his post and keeping an eye out for Imperials. Seeing that the coast was clear for now and hearing Toothless and Luna soar overhead he turned to Astrid and packed up his rifle.

"Time to go, don't want to be left behind." He said cheekily.

"Couldn't agree more." Astrid said quickly as they made their way back down the ridge.

Mission's ears were ringing as she lifted her head, trying to regain her bearings. Everything sounded muffled, as though she was under water. She got her feet slowly and looked around to see the rest of the squad was in similar states of disorientation, though she couldn't seem to find Jyn.

She looked around the now ruined landing platform. Fiery debris littered the ground, along with multiple bodies of Stormtroopers. In the middle of the pad lit by burning metal was Jyn rapidly shaking a body.

Mission shook her head to regain her senses and it was her hearing that came back first.

"Papa, no come on Papa. We've come to save you. Please don't' go!" Jyn shouted as she tried to shake her father awake.

Mission stumbled up to her and looked on her father and knew that he was gone. The peaceful look on his face brought back images of Carth just before her family laid him to rest. Her heart ached for Jyn as she knew exactly what she was feeling.

The doors to the base hissed open and soon more Stormtroopers poured onto the landing pad. Mission quickly grabbed Jyn and pulled back from the body as she kicked and screamed to bring her father with them. Mission's heart continued to break as the cries were far too similar to her own on that fateful day years ago.

While the circumstances were different, she understood why her own father pulled her away from Carth. They couldn't stay here, and she couldn't hold on to him forever, they had to go. Toothless and Luna landed with a mighty thud and the sounds of the strained metal pierced the air, signaling that the pad wouldn't be there much longer.

"Everyone get on Toothless and Luna!" Mission shouted out.

Blaster fire flew by them cutting through the air with a sickening hiss. Everyone loaded up on Toothless and Luna, though Jyn couldn't take her eyes off her father's body. The two dragons pushed off with might flaps of their wings taking troopers off their feet and giving them the time they needed to escape. They cut through the canyon at breakneck speed weaving in and out of X-wings and TIE fighters, the NightFury came into view on the canyon floor and they made their descent.

Hiccup and Astrid had just stepped onto the landing ramp when Toothless and Luna landed with the rest of the squad. Though Hiccup thought they would be one heavy with Jyn's father but the look on the girl's face told Hiccup that he didn't make it. With somber sigh he motioned for everyone to hurry onto the ship and made his way to the cockpit.

Astrid and Hiccup fired up the ship and thanks to the quick repairs by Fishlegs, Cami, the droid and pilot the ship fired up without a hitch. They cleared the canyon and blasted through the atmosphere into space with the rest of the rebel ships that survived the battle. Hiccup punched in the Hyperspace coordinates and watched the stars turn to starlines as the Nightfury and its crew completed its first mission in years, though it came a heavy price for one of them.

A/N: Lots happening in this chapter and once again Mission is at the heart of it. Events in the past start to make more sense to her now, as time and age have made her wise to it. Events are culminating to a climatic apex, which I'm sure you can guess where that is leading. Not too many chapters left be sure to let me know what you think. (Yes I know that I'm following Rogue One story line, it seemed to fit and felt like the natural next step in the story.
