"None of you waited for me!" Shizuo looked up as Shinra whined. "My beloved wouldn't treat me like this." They were spending lunch on the rooftop, with the usual friends. Izaya was sitting close by his side. Shinra moved over to them his arms full of bottles and cartons. "Even after I got us drinks." One by one they were handed out. It looked like Izaya had iced tea, while he had a strawberry milkshake.
Shinra sat down, completing the circle. Opening his bottle he gulped his down. "Slow down." Shizuo twisted the lid from his bottle. "Why? Its not often I get handed free stuff. Everyone drink up." Kadota sighed. "Leave him to it." Shrugging his shoulders, he brought the bottle to his lips. "Shizu-chan! Don't drink it." His eyes widened as the bottle was smacked out of his hand, the pink liquid running out onto the ground. "Damn it, flea!"
He shut up seeing Izaya's face. "Haha, what a waste." Shinra dropped the empty bottle, swaying where he was sitting. The teen watched as his friend fell back, hitting his head on the concrete. "Sleepy." He managed to catch Kadota before he fell. Erika and Walker were collapsed on top of each other. "Oi, Kadota. Wake up." He didn't get a response. All of his friends were unconscious. Turning around he looked around for the last one. "Iz-"
The flea grinned. "I didn't drink anything. Were you worried about me?" Running a hand through his hair, he took a deep breath. "You knew." Izaya shrugged. "I guessed, when Shinra said he was given them." Picking up one of the bottles, he crushed it in his hand. "They were sealed. How?" In answer, the other teen turned his bottle upside down and squeezed, liquid came out of the sealed top. "There's a small hole in the top."
"Fuck!" Shizuo wanted to scream and shout, he wanted to beat the crap out of his stalker. Instead, he slung Kadota over his shoulder, while carrying Karisawa bridal style. Glancing at the other two, he wondered if he could carry someone else. "Don't think about it. I'll wait here." Nodding his head, he carried his friends down to the infirmary.
Dropping the pair onto the bed, he carried Kadota to another bed, tucking him in under the covers. The friend who had always been there for him. "I'm sorry, you got caught up in this." He did the same with Erika. He was reluctant to leave them, but he needed to get back to Izaya. "Nii-san? What are you doing here?"
"Sorry Kasuka, I'll tell you later. Can you watch over these two?" His younger brother nodded. "Thanks." Hurrying back up to the rooftop he found Izaya waiting for him. Shizuo lifted Walker, while the flea carried Shinra. "Are you going to tell me now?" Izaya shook his head. "No. Lunch is almost over." Scowling he moved past the flea, slightly pissed. "What? You want me to make another stupid deal?" He didn't get an answer, not even a teasing joke.
"Nii-san. What happened?" Kasuka helped him get Walker into one of the beds. "...They drank something that didn't agree with them." Sitting down in one of the chairs, he looked around seeing all of his friends. He had done this. It was his fault. "Are you okay?" A hand rested on his shoulder. "...Yeah." When he got his hands on the bastard, they would suffer.
When the bell rang, they had no choice but to leave. He could feel Izaya watching him, probably making sure he didn't do anything stupid. "They'll be fine. Calm down protozoan." Shizuo said nothing, sitting down at his desk. A yawn escaped him, which he barely covered. His vision blurred, he could feel himself becoming tired. Shit. He had only drank a sip, before the bottle had been knocked away. Swaying in his seat, he felt a hand on his shoulder. "Shizu-chan! Did you-" His head hit the desk.
Shizuo glanced around, trying to figure out where he was. Oh. He remembered this one. It was the day he and Kasuka had decided to go behind their father's back. "Nii-san. We can't be too long." Nodding his head, they walked through the sliding doors. Everything was white and clinical. Being the older brother, he was the one who spoke to the receptionist, while Kasuka held his hand. He didn't remember what the woman looked like, her face completely blank. "We want to see our...mother."
What happened after that he wasn't too sure. They were led to a white room, the woman who had hurt him was mumbling to herself, rocking back and fourth, he looked away from the scars on her thinning arms. "Heiwajima-san, you have visitors." He wasn't sure who said that. His eyes widened as she looked up at them. "...Shizuo! My baby."
Shizuo could feel himself being shaken awake. "...chan! Shizu-chan." Opening his eyes he found himself on the floor, looking into crimson eyes. "...Izaya?" The teen above him laughed, helping him up. Looking around he could see he was in one of the vacant beds. His friends were gone. "You should've told me if you'd swallowed any." Shrugging his shoulders, he pulled himself up. "Didn't think it would affect me." He laughed at the expression on Izaya's face.
"Did everyone wake up?" Climbing out of bed, he shook himself awake. "Yeah, just before you did. Lets go home. The last bell has already rung." He had slept since the end of lunch. "Thanks." Izaya was already at the door. "Um, flea. You know I said about how Kasuka and I visited our mother?" The other teen moved closer, waiting for him to continue. "...I can't remember."
Again Izaya said nothing, making sure he was fully awake. "What did you tell them?" At first he was unsteady on his feet, the flea supporting him. "Nothing. They think it was one of Shinra's experiments. Everything will be the same when we see them again on Monday." Shizuo said nothing. Stopping at his locker he found yet another note. Sweet dreams. Izaya dragged him away before he could smash anything.
That night was their last. Turning his head, he could see Izaya sleeping peacefully beside him. Around them were the boxes containing everything they owned. Each of the boxes were named since they were scattered across the house. His were downstairs in the living room. He wasn't sure why he spent so much time looking at Izaya's face, their relationship wouldn't go any further. Even so he placed a light kiss against those soft lips. "See you around, flea." Slipping out of bed, he got dressed and left the room, ignoring the twinge in his chest.
It had been decided he would be the first to move, that way no one would interfere and by the time everyone woke up, it would be too late. The front door was open, his father loading his stuff into the car. "You can still change your mind." Shaking his head, he lifted two three boxes at a time. "Its better for everyone." Without looking back he climbed into the passenger seat and strapped himself in. It was time to go.
His new apartment was on the ground floor, on the corner. He would only have one neighbour. "Its about a five minute walk to the school." His father wasn't smiling. Taking the key, Shizuo unlocked the door letting himself in. The apartment was empty, but from now on it would be his home. The pair worked through the night, moving the boxes in the dark. "Son. Don't distance yourself, we're still your family." Nodding his head, he watched his father leave.
Tomorrow he would unpack. But for now he should get some sleep. Unrolling the futon, he climbed in and slept. It was better if he was on his own. In his head he could see all of his friends lying in the infirmary. Yeah. It was safer for everyone. Rummaging in his pocket he took out his cigarettes. He already knew he wouldn't be getting any sleep.
Light filtered in through the window, the sun shining in his face. His clothes were in a pile on the floor, his cigarettes and phone were next to them. Covering his eyes, Shizuo blinked, seeing the screen on his phone light up. Six missed calls. Guilt ate at him as he saw all of them were from Izaya. Leaving the phone where it was, the teen got up, looking through the boxes for clean clothes.
It took him an hour to unpack, there were three rooms, the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Placing most of his things in the bedroom, he found his gaze dropping to his phone. Fifteen missed calls. Damn it. Maybe he should call him. He had one unread message. Where are you? Shizu-chan. Sliding the phone back into his pocket, he carried on with what he was doing.
But Izaya wasn't one to be ignored and for the sake of not crushing his phone after the thirtieth missed call and the damn voice mails. Shizu-chan. Shizu-chan! Shizuu-chaan! Shizuo picked up the next call. "What?" He was surprised to hear a sigh of relief on the other end. About time, Protozoan. Where are you? The teen sat on his futon. "It doesn't matter. I moved out."
Shizu-chan is running away again. Like hell he was. "No, this is better for everyone." There was a bitter laugh on the other end. Really? Kichirou hasn't said a word all morning. Get back here, Shizu-chan. Shizuo sighed. "No. See you at school, fle-" He was cut off by the other teen. Don't you dare hang – He ended the call.
The phone kept ringing, even so he didn't turn it off, it was his last connection to Izaya, he couldn't bring himself to cut it just yet. When the doorbell rang, he jumped thinking that the flea had managed to get his address out of his father. But then why would the phone still be ringing? Letting out a sigh, he got up and opened the door. "Nii-san." Shit. Now he felt guilty.
Opening the door he let his little brother in. "Do you want a drink? Sorry I haven't finished unpacking yet. There's some bottles of juice somewhere." Kasuka shook his head looking around the room. "You moved out." Opening one of the boxes, he rummaged through it, moving onto the next. "Yeah. Sorry I didn't tell you. I wanted to get settled first." His damn phone was still ringing.
Finding half a bottle of juice, he handed it to Kasuka, while he answered the call.
Shizu-chan. Don't ignore me. Letting out a sigh, the blond leaned against the wall. "I was busy. Why don't you just come over instead of calling?" A hand waved in front of his face., Kasuka handing him a plastic cup of juice. Looks like his brother had found the cups. "Thanks." Taking a sip, he returned to Izaya, feeling self conscious at his brother overhearing his conversation. Thanks for what? Just tell me where you are.
"Not you, I was thanking Kasuka." Somehow the other side of the line seemed to turn icy. Kasuka-kun is there with you? Taking another sip of his drink, he wished he had gone shopping for some milk. "Yeah, didn't my dad tell you where I was?" He could hear the panic in Izaya's tone. No. Shizu-chan, don't drink or touch anything. Give me your address. I'm on my- Oi, Shinra let go of me. Hey g- He could hear rustling and a loud thump on the other end.
"Iz...aya?" What the fuck was wrong with his voice. The phone was dead, falling from his finger tips. His grip loosened, his cup fell clattering on the floor, juice spilling out in a puddle. Shizuo leaned back against the wall, his vision blurring as his surroundings twisted, his hearing becoming muffled. He felt his body slump against the wall, his eyes barely open.
Glancing up he could see Kasuka watching him with his usual blank face. "I'm happy you moved out, nii-san. It means we can stay together. Just the two of us." Shizuo shook his head, unable to get rid of the tiredness spreading through his body. "...Kas..." His eye lids drooped. "No one else is allowed to have you nii-san. You're mine." Shizuo felt his body topple to the side. It was okay, he was dreaming. It was just a nightmare. Kasuka wouldn't - He would wake up and everything would be okay...
