The silence of the battlefield was intimitating as everybody took their respected places. They were all primed and ready to fight, as they stared their enemy down with false bravado and a strong will to live. An united silent promise, that no, they would not die this day. They would not be slain by the hand of the Volturi.

"Edward," addressed Aro "You know why we have come."
"Yes, I do, and I warn you to leave now whilst you still can."
Aro laughed, "My dear, it should be you who is running scared. It surprises me that you would even show your face with so little numbers. I don't know whether to admire your bravery, or laugh at your stupidity."
"Aro, I do not wish to fight you, why dont we agree it was a good show and leave now before any unnecessary bloodshed happens."
"Step foward, give yourself up to us and I'll give the order and halt my brothers and sisters from attacking. I will let all your loved ones go home without even a scratch adorning their bodies, if you just simply step forward. That is if you are honourable enough to save your family."
Edward looked around, searching the faces in the crowd behind him, and as Jacob met Edward's searching stare he knew that Edward was going to go back on his agreement, he was going to sacrifice himself to Aro, to save them all.
"Edward, dont, no." he whispered tears in his eyes and shaking his head.
Edward just turned away with a sorry expression in the depths of his eyes. Jacob froze and started to walk forward to stop Edward, but the Cullen's held him back, overpowering him as he struggled against Emmets and Rosalie's tight grip.
Edward walked foward and kneeled in front of Aro, "I'll give myself up if you garantee my family's safety."
Aro smiled with evil glee, "As always I am true to my word. I'll honour your noble sacrifice, and your family shall not be harmed if you do not resist."
Edward was oddly calm in the face of death, as all colour drained from Jacob's face. He had given up on struggling as he watched on helplessly. Aro dramatically got into position, slowly placing his hands by Edward's head, set for the kill, greedy satisfaction written all over his face.
Edward closed his eyes as he prepared for death.

Aro's red eyes glinted in the moonlight as he licked his lips, he had prepared for so long, and now his moment had come. He was going to destroy his biggest threat, the Cullen clan once and for all, and it had to begin with Edward Cullen. He closed his eyes drinking in the moment. A pained howl was heard from the woods as Aro stepped back surprised. The woods lighting up with glowing yellow eyes of the wolf pack as they formed ranks, snarling, sharp teeth and strong muscles as they closed ranks behind the Cullen's.

Edward stared Aro in the eye as he saw a glint of surprise at the unexpected wolves, and that was all he needed, one moments distraction. Edward signalled and out of the corner of his eye Edward saw a blur and heard a cry as Aro was knocked to the ground, by none other than Bella Swan, 100% vampire, and way stronger than Edward ever imagined.

Emotions whirling inside him in confusing turmoil Edward held Aro down as Bella ripped off his head, fanatical relief in her eyes as she threw his head away. The Volturi erupted in noise as they formed sides and started attacking each other. The members at the back of the group threw off their red hoods as they attacked. Examining the vampires in the melee Edward realised some of the faces were familiar to him, glowing red eyes, and furious faces as they screamed revenge, forming ranks and attacking with all their vampire might, he was thankful they were on his side.
"Im so sorry Edward, for everything." Apologised Bella.
"I know," said Edward, "the past is the past and I forgive you, your actions today have made up for any past misdeeds. Now fight along side me as we defeat the Voluturi and save my family." Said Edward dodging an attack from the a partically gallant vampire.

Edward and Bella fought alongside each other till they were separated by the confusion of the battle as Edward made his way towards Jacob. Saving him from being crushed by a female vampire as he tore her head off just as she was about to break Jacob's ribs. The rest of the battle Edward fought alongside Jacob protecting him and at the same time admiring how tough Jacob was. Working together they were a perfect synchrony of movement, dispatching vampire after vampire till their was none left bar their allies, a bonfire, and piles of ash and dust floating on the late night wind. The fires blazed on all night reflecting in the haunted look of many, including Bella. A spectre on the fringe of the light. Edward and Jacob hugged tightly, relieved they had made it out alive. Bella pretended not to notice.

Then things turned ugly as Jacob learned of Edwards secret plan with Bella.
"I though we were past the lying." He shouted growing angry, "How could you trust her after everything she has done to you. That she has done to us?"
"Jacob, just listen" said Edward as he explained everything, Bella occasionally butting in to set the facts straight.

Less than a year earlier. A few weeks after Bella was turned.
"Bella, drink" commanded Aro.
"No, I'm alright." she said nervously her throat burning as the lady whimpered on the ground, begging for her life in italian.
"I said drink," Bella shook her head meekly closing her eyes resisting the pull of blood and the sound of the woman's heart beat. She had resisted for so long and she wasn't going to give in now. She wasn't going to become one of them.
"Let me." Said Jane grabbing the women and making a cut on her neck. Jane smiled slightly as Bella snapped open her red eyes, and fixed her pointed stare on the women's neck, her primal instincts taking over and she leaped over biting down on the woman's neck and draining the life from her. Till her cries grew weaker, and eventually she struggled no more.

Later sitting in her room the Volturi had given her, the place she referred to as her stone coffin, Bella miserably stared at the wall, regretting heavily that she had taken the woman's life. She brought her knees up to her chest, resting her head on them and laid on her side. She wondered how she had ended up in this hellish existence. In this awful frightful place full of atrocious beastly monsters, preying on the weak and defenceless. Her life was not going as she imagined when she had first met Edward, her one and only love. With a twist of fate she was in the den of evil, killing innocent people, and she had betrayed the only man she had ever loved, and ever will. She started to deeply regret what she had done. She wished for redemption, an escape from the Volturi, and a new pair of shoes, because hers were stained with blood.

It wasn't until a few months later that she had finally built enough courage and felt enough regret to try to do anything to get out of the hell she was living in. She knew if she didn't get out soon she would turn into a nameless faceless killer she so despised. She wouldn't; Couldn't; allow herself to kill another innocent person. The blood kept calling to her, and no matter how hard she tried to resist, her basic instincts kept telling her to kill. Every time she slipped up and killed she felt sick. The dead faces reminding her of her friends, her family, her old life reflected in shattered mirrors, be it a look, a certain way they wore their hair, or the way they screamed. What would her old friends think of her now? killing without mercy, just because she could. If she didnt get help soon, she wouldn't last long in this life. Not with the members of the Volturi goading her to kill at every turn, and this terrible guilt weighing her down.

So she did the only thing she could think to do to save herself, she wrote to Edward. At first she never intended to send the letters, she just wrote them because she couldn't talk to anyone else about her true feelings, and it gave her comfort to be reminded of the girl she once was.
But then, after another massacre of innocent humans she grew desperate, she decided to send one. It took many tries before she found the words. Many times where she felt the task too impossible. Where she felt she could never summon the words in which to express her regret, and apologise enough for her actions, that she would be judged too heavily, but eventually one night she did. With hesitation she secretly sent out a letter.

It was a long time before she got a reply, but It turned out Edward was in a tough spot too, and needed her help. Alice predicted the Volturi would come for them soon, and they couldnt get enough people to support them against the Volturi. Edward said he did not want Bella to be one of the Volturi fighting them, that it wasn't the her he knew, and Bella did not wish to see Edward die; no matter his feelings towards her, and now with her chance to be redeemed in his eyes, she said yes. She agreed when he asked her to feed him information on the Volturi, to help win the oncoming battle. With Edwards support she only slipped a few more times during her stay at the Volturi's headquarters, managing to feed on donated blood and animals blood. Instead saving her intended victims from their fate by sneaking them out and back to safety, and joining a group of revolutionary vampires secretly hidden within the Volturi. She helped band them together with a definite plan to take down the Voluturi in whispered meetings in the middle of the day. She also got in Aro's good graces, to avoid suspicion till the day come when they were to face Edward on the battle field, all the while implementing the downfall of the corrupted group intent on killing the Cullen's.

Now
"I knew if we could bring them down from the inside, we would not only win the battle but the war. The downside was always keeping up the act, even from the ones I loved the most, as to never alert the Volturi of anything. With so many spies everywhere with such varied powers, no one was to be trusted. We had to draw them to this day for the battle without anyone knowing of our true plan. We had to be as careful as possible and make it seem as real as possible. It got so far that I even convinced myself it was all real at a point," said Edward with amusement, "but Bella true to her word brought down Aro, a spy among their midst."
Everyone who didn't know about the plan was speechlessly shocked.

"I don't believe it." said Quill speaking everyones thoughts. "So this was going on the whole time, and it was all an act."
"I had to keep my thoughts closely guarded, but my worry was real, I didnt know Bella wouldn't betray me at any moment. I had to have a back up plan incase she double crossed us."
"And why didnt you betray is all?" Asked Leah.
"No matter what in my heart I will forever love Edward ." Edward shifted uneasily "but now, after lots of thought, I understand why we cant be together, thet Jacob and Edward are imprinted, and you cant really choose that. Im happy that Jacob is happy, so I wont interfere anymore. I'll stay away, go somewhere with no humans, you wont see me again. It hurts too much to be near you both. I have repayed any hurt I have caused you. I have been redeemed. So I hope you can remember me for the good we had together, before any of this, when I was just a girl, and you were just a boy."
"Bella." said Jacob hugging Bella in a bear hug, as she wiped her eyes. It was as she expected tears to flow that never would fall.
"Jacob," she said breathing out, "Edward, I will miss you dearly. Goodbye, May you be happy. You will never see me again."

And with that Bella was gone.

Everyone broke into confused chatter, but Edward was just relieved that Jacob wasn't too angry at him.
"Jacob, are you angry at me?" He asked with trepidation.
"I understand why," said Jacob slowly, "I just wish you trusted me enough to involve me, I'm not angry anymore, Im done with being mad at you for now. We have defeated the Volturi, lets count it as a win. I just want to go home to my family, and be greatful none of us was hurt today. That we all lived, we survived against impossible odds."
Edward grabbed Jacob's hand in his, an overwhelming exhaustion coming over him.
"Lets go home" he said, as they walked into the forrest together leaving everyone behind still arguing and cleaning up the mess.
"I feel like I could sleep a 100 years." said Jacob as he leant heavily on Edward.

They ran side by side through the forrest, Jacob morphing into wolf. Vampire and wolf ran side by side as the morning sun illuminated their forms, Edward's skin sparkling and Jacob's fur slightly illuminated in the morning sun. A new beginning was on the horizon, and it was waiting just for them. A promise made from love, life and a twist of fate.
