Chapter 11

Part 2

Meanwhile, a distressed teenager paced back and forth outside her mother's mentor's hut, unable to keep still. It's been several hours since she and Shippo fetched Kaede-baba, Sango and then Rin. Seeing the two-tailed demon cat Kirara carrying the old miko and demon slayer and Rin riding the two headed dragon Ah-Un off in the direction of her parent's hut and watching the half-moon glide across the sky was enough to drive her into a near frenzy.

"Moroha!"

She whipped around to see her cousin Sestuna, followed by her sister Towa, leaving the hut. Shippo, Miroku and his twin daughters were still inside, all waiting for news. She could sense her powerful uncle close by, not making an appearance through the night but the shinhanyou felt reassured that nothing terrible was going to happen in the village under his watch. "Hey you guys." She said and turned to look off in the distance, arms folded.

"You need to come inside and at least warm yourself." Towa encouraged her younger cousin.

"No thanks." Moroha adamantly refused. "Too fidgety."

"Still no news, huh?" Sestuna looked at her cousin, seeing the concern and excitement in her features.

"Yeah…" Growling in frustration, she punched the ground with her fists. "I wish I could've gone with them!"

The fraternal twins said nothing, but only watched in sympathy. Their cousin was about to become a big sister, and by the looks of it she was terribly nervous. Poor girl didn't know what to do with herself.

"Well, we'll stay out here with you." Towa stood to her cousin's left, Sestuna on the right. "Two new cousins are pretty exciting too."

"I don't know how to be a sibling. What if I screw up?!"

"Moroha, take a look at us." Sestuna pointed to herself, then her sister. "If we can come together after all the trials and hardships to get to this point, you sure as hell can overcome the fear of being a good sister."

The shinhanyou hummed, acknowledging the hanyou. Arms folded and eyes distant, Moroha stood in silence, unknowingly adopting the stoic stance she'd observed her father doing on occasion.

Before long, all three picked up the demonic auras of Kirara and Ah-Un and within seconds the two carrying their passengers came within sight and landed within several feet of the girls. Everyone else in the hut came running outside hearing the commotion and eager for news.

After helping Kaede down, Sango yawned and turned to the group. "Hey everyone. Not surprised to see everyone still awake."

"What of my parents? My siblings? Are they all alright?" Moroha fired off questions without taking a breath. "Tell me damnit, I need to know!"

"Calm yourself, Moroha." Sango placed her hands on the girl's shoulders. "You need to take a deep breath and calm down, okay?" After doing as she was told, the woman continued, "Everyone is fine. The births went extremely well."

"Such excellent news!" Miroku cheered. He looked to see his daughters jumping for joy.

"Are Kagome and InuYasha…?" Shippo, who hopped on Moroha's shoulder curiously asked.

"Both of them are doing well; exhausted but are well." Rin answered the kistune. Covering a huge yawn, she looked to her daughters. "Come on girls, let's get some sleep. It's been an exceptionally long night. Shippo, you can stay the night with us."

As the two families separated, chattering excitedly amongst themselves, Kaede slowly walked up to the youngster. "Your parents are waiting for you. They want to tell you themselves."

After a quick nod, the teen was gone without a second to spare. Kaede knew the girl would be in for quite a meeting. After saying good night to the two groups, she slowly made her way to her hut to rest her weary bones. Sango and her daughters rode Kirara while Miroku walked beside them as Ah-Uh carried off Rin and her daughters-Shippo perched atop Ah's head, Sesshomaru joining them within seconds.

As they waited for Moroha's return, the two rocked their infants to sleep. Now they've had their first feeding, the pups slowly drifted off, closing those precious eyes of gold.

"That's right, momma and daddy are here." Kagome soothed her daughter, loving how her small paternal ears drooped. She kissed her tiny forehead and whispered, "We love you."

InuYasha cradled his son to his shoulder, inhaling the fresh scent of a newborn. It was also for the boy's benefit of recognizing his sire. He did it with an infant Moroha and with his second daughter. It was pure instinct.

He melted at hearing his wife's beautiful whispering voice. "Yes, we do." He nuzzled the dark fur-like hair, similar in texture to his own, "With all our hearts."

They sat next to each other on the new futon, prepared for a well-deserved sleep. But they stayed awake, preparing for their eldest to meet her new siblings. Kagome's head rested on InuYasha's shoulder, looking between her son and daughter. Two brand new faces, two brand new souls in the world, two more hearts to nourish and protect…

"They're both so tiny." She observed quietly. Her own eyelids were heavy. Between the dim lighting, her husband's soothing presence and the painful but exciting ordeal of the new family members' arrivals, momma was also ready for a long, deep sleep. At least until their next feeding…

"But they're both strong." InuYasha's voice was also low pitched. "Like Moroha, I can sense spiritual power within them."

She hummed in agreement. It was apparent that along with their father's demonic power, they also inherited her spiritual energy. She wondered just how powerful they would eventually become. Reaching over to caress her son's cheek, she wondered, "How do you think Moroha will react?"

At that moment, the teen arrived at the doorstep catching her breath, and mentally preparing herself. The hut smelled of blood, sweat, and tears along with the underlying smell of herbs but despite all that, she could now detect something else… and it smelled of her parents and something distinctly… brand new.

She entered the hut, just in time to hear her father whisper, "Well we're about to find out." Then in a slightly louder voice he called out, "Come on in, pup."

Taking a calming breath the teenager strode forward, her stomach all aflutter. Once she stepped inside the bedroom threshold, she stopped and took in the scene before her. Her mother, covered in her dad's fire rat, her braid from that afternoon messy but still intact over her shoulder, was holding a small form wrapped in the fire-rat swaddling cloth. Her dad, also looking a little worse for wear was also cradling a small form.

And both were looking right at her, waiting.

"Come Moroha. Come meet your new brother and sister." Her mom smiled encouragingly. "They're anxious to see you."

Brother and sister… she was officially a big sister now. Swallowing her anxiety, she quietly walked over and sat cross legged in front of them. For the first time, she gazed at the two sleeping infants. "Wow..." Her hand itched with the urge to touch them. "Is this really real?"

Both mom and dad smiled, expecting such a reaction. "Sure is, pup." He looked at his wife, and she at him. "Both are strong and healthy."

"Do they have names?" She looked up. Her hands flexed and unflexed, as if wanting to hold her siblings and not let go.

Seeming to read her daughter's mind, Kagome asked, "Would you like to hold them?"

"Really?! Can-can I?" She could barely hold her enthusiasm.

"Of course, you can! You're their big sister." Her mom giggled and slowly handed over the first twin. "Easy now, be gentle with her." Kagome made sure she was holding her correctly before saying, "Moroha, meet your new sister… Katana."

"Katana…" Moroha looked down at the girl, taking in each and every detail. "Wow, she even has dad's ears!" After a moment, Katana's eyes opened a bit revealing sleepy orbs of amber. "And dad's eyes! Dad, she looks just like you!"

"That she does." Kagome couldn't help the tears at this first interaction. "They both do." Leaning on her husband's shoulder once again. "Your dad chose her name, in keeping with tradition." At the girl's confused look, she elaborated. "Your name means "double-edged", like a sword. It was his idea." She didn't have to look up to see how proud he looked.

"That's an awesome name, dad." Moroha praised. "Like her name, I bet she'd be great with a sword."

"Not for a while." Her dad commented. "Not until she's much older." Looking at his son, he noticed he was slowly coming awake as well. "Heh, I think your brother is getting jealous, seeing Katana getting all the attention."

"Just like his daddy."

"Oh, come on, I don't get that jealous." He argued. Ignoring his wife's snort of disbelief, he watched Moroha handing Kat back to her mother. Copying his wife, he carefully handed the boy to his sister. "Here pup. This is your brother, and your momma decided to call him InuKin."

"Golden dog…" Moroha saw the same-colored eyes as her father and sister. "That's fitting; I love that." Unlike Katana, InuKin had dark hair and human ears. "I love that you named him after dad, mom."

"Your father has a lovely name, why wouldn't I name a child after him?" Said father reached for Kat so Kagome could finally settle down. "Kin resembles him in his human state."

"I see…" the teenager did notice that her siblings resembled their dad in his two states. While she was told she was a perfect blend of both parents, Kat and Kin looked completely like their father. "And how perfect that tonight, a half moon was in the sky. Half-light, half dark."

The wife and husband looked at each other. She was right. How utterly appropriate that the twins were born on a night that the moon was half cast in shadow while the other part was still shining bright.

"How perfect indeed." Weakened and drained physically, Kagome was finally able lay her head on a pillow and finally rest surrounded by her family.

After Moroha met and bonded with Kat and Kin, the family finally decided to call it a night. After dousing the candlelight and main fire, the hanyou slipped in beside his wife who fell asleep instantaneously once her head hit the pillow, as did his teenage daughter. Between his wife and Moroha lay the two newest additions, also in a deep sleep. Once again, he reflected on the events leading to this moment.

'How lucky am I? To have a mate and three beautiful children. Damn, I shouldn't even be alive, being a half demon, I shouldn't deserve such wonderful things like this.' Resting his head in his hand he gazed upon all four slumbering figures, starting with his mate. Kagome…. My precious, wonderful, caring Kagome… if it weren't for you… I wouldn't have all this…' He delicately swept hair from her face before cupping her face and whispered aloud, "I never thought in a hundred years that I would have the life that I have now, a family, a family of my own. I thought because of who I am no one would care for me, that I would always be alone, but because of you, my loving wife, because of your love and trust and care for me, you've made it all possible and I am forever grateful for you. You have made my life all the better." He saw her turn her head towards him, a smile gracing her lips. She was still asleep he confirmed, but it was like her heart heard him. His own heart answered by brushing a feathery soft kiss on those lips he loved so much.

His eyes moved to his second treasure, his baby girl Moroha. 'Oh pup. Me and your mom loved you from the moment you came screaming into the world. And shortly after we had to give you up; to keep you safe. I hate the circumstances that forced us to such a decision.' He recalled the endless tears Kagome shed following the incident, and he wasn't ashamed to admit he wept as well. It was extremely hard on them both. 'But we were so proud to see you flourishing. And when we finally met you again in person, oh how we were so thrilled, so overcome I nearly cried myself. He reached over to tap his daughter's nose, grinning as she sniffed and burrowed into the futon. 'I'm so proud of who you've become.' He sighed; his heart full of emotion.

And finally, to his two youngest, just a few hours old. 'InuKin…Katana…you've no idea how much you mean to me, to your mom and your sister. You're the miracles we hoped for; for so long.' He still couldn't believe it; he had another daughter and a son to raise! The night's events seemed surreal, like they happened in a dream. But it wasn't, they were here! Two new precious treasures, still so fragile and meek. But he knew they were tougher than human infants. And their youkai instincts were already strong.

Just let someone try and cause harm to my family, he angrily thought. They would meet a gruesome end by way of his claws -or his Testsaiga, which was now stuck in the door frame, creating an invisible barrier for extra protection. He knew everyone would sleep well past dawn and into the afternoon.

Kagome…Moroha…Katana…InuKin… His wife and children that gave him such purpose, such a will to live and to provide and protect and to love.

And he wouldn't let them down.

And now that the twins have arrived, it's time for some fun...and drama...What drama you ask? Well not for another chapter or two but for now I'm going enjoy writing some more family bonding time!

Did you like the names? I thought they were fitting and so beautiful!

As always, let me know what you think, and I'll see you in the next chapter!

Until then...
