Hey guys

Piper

How?

How could Annabeth think she could actually do this? Less than a year ago, Piper didn't even know what demigods were, or what charmspeak was. Less than a year ago, Piper didn't know who she was.

She accidentally convinced a car dealer to give her a BMW and she felt weak and feverish for days after that. And that was a car, nothing of the magnitude she was about to attempt to pull off.

Put Gaea to sleep? Annabeth was wrong. Piper couldn't do this. She should tell her to think of another plan, because there was no way this would work. Piper was nothing, a nobody. Nobodies don't save the world.

An alarm rippled through the uneasy murmuring of the people on the ground. Leo, from the ship he had just run to retrieve, frowned. Jason moved closer to Piper, preparing to start flying. Frank and Hazel, on another ledge in the cavern, looked at Piper. Piper found it hard to look at anyone or anything.

Percy and Annabeth ran their blades across their palms, and the blood seemed to fall in slow motion. It was too late to change the plan now. Percy's blood hit the ground first, and nothing happened, but as soon as one drop of Annabeth's hit the ground, everything started to move.

It was almost like earth had become the ocean, everything moved in waves. A massive mound shifted under Piper's feet, and she fell. Jason pulled her up quickly. He had been told to stay on the ground for as long as possible to keep his strength. Piper widened her stance to maintain better balance.

Percy and Annabeth backed up to the back wall, looking stunned and terrified. They looked over at Frank who was watching everything with scared eyes. Hazel held her sword, but it was useless in her hand. Their was nothing to be done. The prophecy was complete.

Annabeth explained it. Seven half-bloods shall answer the call. Obvious. To storm or fire the world must fall. That was the one that confused her. But, she figured out that they were taking it too literally. Fire wasn't Leo. Fire was burning passion. Piper.

The other lines in the prophecy were easy to figure out after everything that had happened. An oath to keep with final breath. Percy promised Annabeth that he would always save her life, and he did right before dying. Granted, he did come back, but he was legally dead before the cure started working. And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death were Percy, Annabeth, Bob and Dameson, right before Bob and Dameson were killed.

Seeing it all come together like this was terrifying. It just solidified the idea in Piper's mind that this was it. This was the end. No matter what happened, there wouldn't be an after.

Jason grabbed her by the waist and she turned towards him. His face was grim, but set with determination. He looked at her almost apprehensively. He was worried for her and whether or not she could do this.

As he started flying up, he kissed her cheek. Piper closed her eyes and focused on that. On Jason and her friends below who were counting on her. She refused to let them down. She opened her eyes again with fierceness in her eyes. When she looked at the ground again, she saw Gaea.

She was standing, looking up at Piper. Her eyes were a startling green and her skin was a dark brown. Her hair was tangled like vines, falling over her shoulders. Her gaze was stabbing at Piper, it was impossible to look away.

"Piper McLean." Her voice that was once sleepy was now sharp and direct. Piper felt her body gone numb and her mind go blank. It was Gaea. Oh my gods. It almost didn't seem real. Piper and her friends were the only demigods to ever see Gaea awake. Jason's arms shook.

Leo blinked out of his stupor of fear and drove the ship down towards the ground. Jason adjusted his arms as Leo lifted Gaea up into the air. Piper, trembling, cleared her throat.

"G-Gaea." Piper yelled hesitantly. Gaea turned towards her.

"Dear Piper." Her voice was so powerful Piper's brain started to buzz, "you honestly think you can stop me? You realize I can go anywhere now. I can leave at any second."

"Oh no you can't." Leo jumped down from the helm, fire shooting from his hands before his feet hit the deck. Gaea stared him down. She summoned a vine to contain him, but Leo caught it on fire.

Piper couldn't believe it. Leo, fighting the goddess of the entire earth? No fear even crossed his face as he fired fire ball after fire ball, lobbing them at her face and vines. Piper figured if Leo can jump into battle all alone, she can try.

"Gaea." She yelled more confidently. This was war. Piper couldn't afford to be weak. Hands shaking, feeling her body slipping in Jason's arms, she tried again.

"Go to sleep." The words sounded childish coming out of her mouth. Gaea glanced at her while fighting Leo. Frank had flown the rest of the crew up and they were all assisting with the fight. Percy was using the plumbing and shot the water out with pressure of a waterfall. Frank was a lion, scratching with his claws. Hazel was tearing gems and stones from the earth flying around Gaea and circling the group. Annabeth was cutting the vines with her sword, blood dripping down her arm. Leo continuously shot fire.

It was becoming apparent that they could not fight a goddess of this magnitude. Not even all five of them. Frank was the first to fall. In the middle of transitioning between an eagle and a lion, Gaea shot a vine at him. It caught him off guard and wrapped around his middle. Frank transformed into an otter, trying to minimize his size and slip out, but the vines contracted along with his transformation. He turned back into a human, trying to push it apart, but nothing was working. He was hopelessly entangled.

Piper needed to do it now, before it was too late.

"Gaea! I know you want to sleep!" Piper yelled again.

"Silence girl." Gaea shot a vine at them, but Jason dodged it in midair.

"You are weary. Eons of pain and disappointment weigh on you." Piper was screaming.

Gaea barely looked at her. She shot another vine and hit Hazel. She summoned a sharp piece of metal from the earth and tried to cut the vine, but Gaea over ruled her earth powers. Hazel struggled in the tight grip, but ultimately, could not do anything. Piper swallowed. This was getting bad.

"Millenia of sorrow. Your husband Ouranos was abusive. Your grandchildren the gods overthrew your beloved children the Titans. Your other children, the cyclopes and the Hundred-Handed ones, were thrown into Tartarus. You are so tired of the heartache."

"LIES!" Gaea finally responded. As she said that, she tried to capture Annabeth, but she cut through the vine before it could tighten around her. Instead, another hit Leo, wrapping around him quickly. He burned through the vines and they stared at Gaea, hate in their eyes. Percy hit her in the face with a stream of water, but as he was doing that, didn't see the vine behind him. It circled his waist, dropping him to his knees. A piece of hit wrapped around his mouth, gagging him.

"What you want, more than victory, more than revenge, you want to rest. You are so weary, so incomprehensibly tired of the ungrateful mortals and immortals." Piper's throat was dry from screaming. Her mind was pounding, pain radiating through her body. She could barely focus. She was blacking out, but she pushed through the pain.

Gaea was moving more sluggishly as she fought Annabeth and Leo. Hazel screamed from the ground behind ensnared by vines. A sharp piece of metal hit Gaea, but didn't do much damage. Leo and Annabeth were getting tired. But then again, so was Gaea. Gaea shot vines and they hit Annabeth and Leo together, binding them to one another. Jason made a sound next to Piper. They were all captured. Piper was their only hope. Piper continued on.

"You want one thing. One word. You want permission to close your eyes and forget your troubles. You- want- SLEEP!" Piper yelled. Gaea stumbled, glaring.

"NO- I-" Gaea tried, but her eyes were drooping.

"YOU WANT SLEEP!" Piper screamed. The last word just turned into one undying scream, ripping Piper's throat, her mind. Her power was oozing out of her, everything that could be done was. Piper had never pushed it like this, and she could feel it. Through the blinding pain, Piper could see Gaea dropping. She just needed a little bit more, just another push.

She focused on her friends, counting on her, trusting her to be a part of this. She thought of Jason, smiling at her, kissing her. Annabeth, looking at her with her startling eyes, telling her she believed in her. Percy, hugging her. Leo, grinning and joking with her. Hazel, teaching her sword fighting. Frank, playing catch with her on the deck of the ship. Then, she thought of her dad. She imagined she was on the beach, enjoying the sand, surfing with him watching. They were all counting on her. She couldn't let them down.

Her pure extent of her power was shown, and it blinded her. She could no longer see Gaea or anything for that matter. All she felt was herself falling, the wind whistling in her ears.

She fell into darkness.

Her last thought before becoming completely gone to the world was "did I do it?"
