Happy 4th of July, everyone! It was mostly by coincidence that I posted this today, since I've been posting on Mondays for the past few weeks, but it's nice to be here. You've probably been waiting for a PTA Undertale update for a while, so here it finally is!
I'll get right to the point of it. See you at the bottom of the page!
Chapter 41: The Book Fair's Special Feature
"Book Fair! Book Fair! BOOK FAIR—"
"Be quiet over there!" Flowey shouted. "If you have something to say, Author, then make it count!"
"Yes, sir." The Author droned, sitting back down and fiddling with her laptop.
Flowey sighed, ruffling his petals. "So anyway, we're doing a book fair—"
"YEAH!"
"WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!"
"Hey, come on," Sans said, leaning back in his chair with his arms behind his head. "She's just excited. Wouldn't you want to book it, too?"
Toriel giggled, and Linda firmly pushed Sans' arms down.
"Okay, okay," Flowey groaned, "we've established the pun of the day, can we please get to the actual plot of the chapter?"
"Eh," Pete said. "I kind of feel like our plots are always half-baked."
The Author glared at him. "Maybe you're half-baked, Pete."
Flowey snorted. "Okay, I liked that one."
"Don't do drugs, kids," Sans winked at The Reader.
"Anyway," Flowey clapped his leaves. "Book fair. What kind of books should we offer?"
"Educational books," Linda said immediately.
"Joke books," Sans followed.
Linda sniffed. "Joke books aren't going to teach the children anything, Sans."
"No one is going to spend money on an educational book, Linda."
"Ooh, ooh!" The Author raised her hand and waved it around.
"Anyone else have any ideas?" Flowey asked.
"I do!"
"Anyone at all? Mom, what do you think?"
"I think you should pick the Author; it looks like she has an idea she's eager to share," Toriel replied. "Also, I am not your mother."
"Denial."
"Please?" The Author waved her arm more wildly.
Flowey drew out a five-second-long sigh, then pointed a leaf at the Author. "Yes, Author?"
The Author held up her laptop. "Could we do my story?"
"Which one?" Sans asked. "You've got enough to fill a two-story building."
"Eyy," The Author finger gunned him, and Sans finger gunned right back.
Flowey tugged on his petals with his leaves. "Which story did you mean, Author?"
"Well," the Author drawled, "it's more like a series than a single book, but…" She opened her laptop and showed the Reader her screen. "I think you should try The Cult Series, a series of four works of fanfiction that I've been working on for seven years! A story of action, romance, bloodshed! A look into the theoretical power of fandom, on fandom, by fandom!"
Mettaton rose from the floor on his platform and kicked his leg out dramatically. "That sounds fabulous, darling! But tell me: what fandom is the story based on?"
The Author gestured to the laptop with a rose between her teeth, which she spat out to keep talking. "I'm glad you asked, Mettaton! The Cult Series surrounds the story of HetaOni! Back in days long-forgotten, back when horror RPGs on the computer were all the rage; combine the lovable characters of Hetalia with the tragic horror of Ao Oni, add a little time travel, and what do you get? HetaOni!"
"Oh my!" Metatton draped himself across the table. "But how does your series come into play, darling?"
The Author shone a flashlight onto a disco ball on the ceiling, sending rainbow lights all over the room. "What a perfect question! The Cult Series begins with one fan's dream of being a hero, and follows her mission to save the nations of Hetalia from a fate worse than death!"
Metatton crossed his arms and tapped his chin. "This sounds like a self-insert story…"
"It is!" The Author replied. "Come for the battles against mighty Onis, stay for the intrigue of the OCs interpersonal relationships and internal struggles!"
"Your series sounds indulgent as sin," Mettaton mused.
"Kind of!"
"I love it!" Mettaton rolled off of the table and landed on a bed of roses. "Take a moment to read book one of The Author's Cult Series: 'The Cult of Veneziano' today!"
"Wait just a minute!" Flowey shouted. The Author and Mettaton glanced at him curiously. Flowey opened his mouth wider, then closed it. Toriel was whispering to him while handing him a note card. "Do I have to?" he muttered. Toriel whispered more firmly, pointing at the card. "Okay, okay, fine. Ahem."
Flowey took a deep breath. "But Author," he droned, "I don't want to get to the good part and have to wait for updates. I want to read the whole story now."
The Author grinned. "Well, you're in luck, Flowey! As of June 27, 2022, The Cult Series is officially completed!"
Everyone applauded politely.
The Author and Mettaton took deep, theatric bows. "Look for the first book, 'The Cult of Veneziano', on fanfiction . net today! Coming soon to Archive of Our Own, too! Oh, and happy fourth of July, everyone!"
"Wait," Linda said. "If it's the fourth of July, that means it's summer right now. Why are we holding a PTA meeting in the summer?"
"LOOK IT UP TODAY!"
Head Canon I Don't Actually Think # 53: Book fairs can happen in the summer. Most kids don't like going back to school in the summer for even one day, but everyone loves buying a book!
Head Canon I Don't Actually Think # 54: You should take a look at "The Cult of Veneziano" sometime! Coming soon to Archive of Our Own with minor updates!
So... yep! Today marks the beginning of the Big Share, in which over the course of the next several weeks, I'll be posting many of my stories on fanfiction . net to Archive of Our Own! Hooray!
So, basically this means that for the next few weeks, my fanfiction . net site will be mostly inactive (I'll still be around, so be sure to send a PM if you have any questions), while I cross post a majority of my creations to my AO3 site. Special thanks to Emmibee, the creator of Off Brand Mercyplates (among other things) for inviting me to the site two or so years ago! You should go check out their works on tumblr and AO3 sometime, too!
I'll leave this update here and see you on AO3 next Monday for the first of the Big Share cross posts! Please leave a review and tell me which story you think I should cross post to AO3 first!
Until then!
