Being Human
Once Luz explains everything to everyone, they start to understand. They're still nervous about trusting The Collector, but if Luz says they're working towards change, then they're all willing to give them a chance.
The Collector walks over to King. King's nervous at first, but when he looks at Luz and sees her smile and nod, he trusts that he'll be okay this time.
"King! I'm sorry for treating you like a pawn in one of my games before. I'd like to start over and give this friendship thing another try, but only if you want to." The Collector said.
"Alright buddy, let's give this a shot." King replied.
Before they go, The Collector hands Luz a pen with a yellow eye symbol on it that resembles the key and briefcase she used to travel between the human realm and the demon realm.
"This is for you Luz, a gift to thank you for giving me a second chance. You can use it to travel between the human realm and the demon realm. Just draw a circle in the air, think about where you want to go, and you've got a portal!" The Collector said.
Luz can't believe it. She was so worried about having to choose between the two realms. Although her Mom gave her the choice to stay in the demon realm if that's what made her happy, she's glad she can still go back to the human realm to visit whenever she wants.
"Thank you so much! This means a lot to me and it shows you're already making progress at being a better friend." Luz replied.
The Collector smiles. Then they join the group with King by their side, ready to keep working towards friendship.
Amity takes Luz's hand and smiles.
"I told you, you always have a way of sneaking into people's hearts." Amity said.
Luz gives Amity a kiss on the cheek and she blushes.
"Thank you, batata." Luz replied.
Suddenly, Eda comes running over to Luz and gives her a hug. Luz hugs her back, both with tears in their eyes as they finally reunite after going through so much together and apart. Then Eda looks at Luz with a serious but relieved expression.
"Luz, I was so worried about you. I know you gave yourself up to The Collector to save everyone, but we could have worked together to find another way." Eda said.
"I know Eda, Amity and I had a talk about this. I've realized I need to work on giving myself the same compassion that I give others. It's going to be hard, but I'm going to work towards change." Luz replied.
Just saying these words, Luz feels a wave of emotions come over her, like all of the feelings she's been hiding behind a smile are coming out. She falls to her knees in tears, finally allowing herself to be vulnerable and let others help her.
Eda and Amity hug Luz, giving her all the support she needs in this cathartic moment.
"Hey kiddo, it's okay, you're okay now. And I hope you know just how much love and support you have. Just look around you, everyone here changed for the better when you came into their lives. You helped them, now you need to let us help you." Eda said, tearful but glad Luz is opening up.
Luz looks at all of the supportive people around her, wiping her tears as she realizes how much everyone around her truly cares for her. Amity, Hunter, Willow, Gus, Eda, Lilith, Raine, King, Hooty and even The Collector are all here for her. All of these connections she's made help her see that she's not alone and that's what's going to help her heal.
Eda takes out Luz's palisman egg and hands it to her with a smile and a wink.
"Here you go, Luz. I think it's finally starting to hatch." Eda said.
Luz holds it carefully in her hands and stares with wonder as it slowly starts coming out of its shell.
Suddenly, the egg cracks open to reveal a black and violet colored bat. She stares at Luz for a moment and flies on her shoulder as she nuzzles her cheek affectionately. Luz pets her little head gently and smiles, still tearful but happy to welcome her new palisman companion into the world.
"Welcome to the world buddy. I think I'm going to call you Azura." Luz said.
Excited by her new name, Azura turns into a staff for Luz and she stands up, holding it proudly. Then Azura changes back into her bat form and sits on Luz's shoulder, comfortable with her new home and already loving Luz as her owner.
Luz looks at Amity with a smile, remembering a promise she needs to fulfill.
"Amity, remember I promised we would go on a date after all of this is over. How about a trip to the human realm?" Luz asked.
"I would love that." Amity replied.
Luz uses her magic pen to draw a circle in the air and creates a portal back to the human realm. She takes Amity's hand and with Azura on her shoulder as well as Amity's cat palisman Ghost standing by her side, they wave goodbye to everyone for now. Then they walk into the portal together, excited for this new adventure.
Luz and Amity, along with their palismen, arrive in the human realm right at the front door of Camila's house. Luz takes a deep breath and knocks on the door, Amity holding her hand for support.
Camila answers the door almost immediately and smiles with tears in her eyes, happy to see her daughter came back safe.
"Hi Mom, I'm back again, just like I promised." Luz said.
Camila hugs Luz and she hugs her back, feeling safe in her Mothers arms again. When they pull out of their hug, Camila notices Luz is crying while still trying to keep on a smile and she gets concerned.
"What's wrong, Mija?" Camila asked.
"I'm okay, I'm just finally letting out a lot of bottled up emotions, I guess." Luz replied.
Amity puts her arm around Luz and explains.
"She's been through a lot, but she's opening up and being honest about her feelings. It's a step in the right direction." Amity said.
Camila nods understanding. She's so glad Luz finally has someone she trusts to open up to and Amity's so supportive and protective of her. They really are perfect for each other.
"Well, let's go inside and I'll make you both some hot chocolate. We can talk then." Camila said.
Luz and Amity nod, following Camila inside. Then they sit on the couch, their palismen sitting next to them.
Camila comes in with the hot chocolate and Luz explains what happened. Starting from when they left to go to the abandoned house and travel back to the demon realm all the way up to her befriending The Collector and meeting her bat palisman Azura.
Camila takes a minute to process all of this and does her best to remain calm. She realizes Luz has been through so much, but does her best to focus on supporting her in the moment.
"Luz, I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. You're incredibly brave for talking about it and I'm so proud of you. Healing is going to take time, but it seems you have so much love and support on your side. You'll get through this." Camila said.
Hearing these supportive words from her Mom, Luz starts to feel better. Realizing she has been through a lot and deserves the love and support that her family, friends, and girlfriend are giving her.
"Thank you Mom. I just know I'll get through this. Besides, I've got the best support systems both here and back in the demon realm. And just knowing that everyone is safe and we're all together again helps." Luz replied.
Camila and Amity smile, glad to see Luz so full of hope again. She's finally getting the happy and optimistic part of herself back, but this time with more emotional experience and maturity. She's grown and proud of the person she's become.
Suddenly, Luz remembers why they came back to the human realm in the first place and looks at Amity with a big smile.
"Amity, I was going to take you out on our date! Let's go, I know the perfect place." Luz said.
Before they leave, Luz gives her Mom another hug goodbye and lets her know she'll visit often. Camila lets Luz know her bedroom is always here for her when she feels she needs to come home. Vee waves goodbye as well and can't wait to spend more time with Luz when she comes over to visit.
Luz and Amity, along with their palismen, head out the door and start walking together. Amity's curious about the special place Luz has in mind for their date and can't wait to see it.
Before they know it, Luz and Amity arrive at a park with a big oak tree. It looks very similar to the Grom tree they created together back when they had their first dance in the demon realm. That was also the moment Luz opened up to Amity about her Dad passing away when she was young and where they picked flowers together. She'll always hold both of those memories close to her heart.
Amity stares at the tree in wonder as Luz takes her hand. They sit down together beneath the tree and watch as the green leaves and flower petals fall down around them.
"This is the place. I wanted to find our Grom tree in the human realm so we'd have special memories together in both worlds." Luz said with a joyful smile.
"It's perfect." Amity replied.
Amity takes Luz's hand and they lay back against the tree. Luz's palisman Azura on her shoulder and Amity's palisman Ghost sitting by her side. They look up at the bright blue sky together, enjoying this peaceful moment in nature together.
Everything's finally at peace in both the human realm and the demon realm. And, although they can't be certain of what the future holds, they know they'll be okay as long as they have each other.
