Disclaimer: Woohoo. I don't own Pokemon. Dx

"Teal, did you finish your breakfast?" Mom asked as she grabbed her bag. I nodded quickly, and shoved my bowl into the sink. The plates made a loud clang, and I swiftly brushed my blue-green bangs out of the way. Today was the day I would get my starter Pokémon from Professor Oak! Just as Mom said, this day would be the start of something big. Maybe I would go all the way to Unova, or even defeat Lucy and become the champion of Kanto.

"I'm going to go now; bye Mom." I said promptly, grabbing the faded gray bag from the coat hanger. My thoughts whirled with the Pokémon that I might get. Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur seemed strong, but its evolutions reminded me of old men. Squirtle was decent, and Charmander seemed okay. I pushed the wooden door open, and stepped into Fuchsia City.

"Teal!" my mother's voice rang from inside. I whipped around to face her. "Yes?" I asked, looking up at her. "C'mon, you can't walk all the way to Pallet Town." She said gently as she pulled a Pokéball out of her bag. In a flash, she released a large brown Pokémon. From all the pictures I've seen of Dad's Pokémon, I could only assume it was a Pidgeot.

"Let's go." Mom said quietly as she mounted the Pokémon. I nodded slightly, and clambered on with her.

We arrived in Pallet Town fairly quickly; I was surprised by how small it was. At least compared to Fuchsia City. Then again, it would be small compared to anything. I mean, there were only three buildings.

"Alright, honey. There's the lab over there-" she pointed to a nearby building. "Be careful, Teal. If anything happens just call home, okay?" I nodded and was quickly engulfed in my mom's embrace. It quickly broke and I sauntered over to the lab.

The lab was small and welcoming. There was a redheaded girl cuddling a Squirtle, and a rather old man was watching, talking about the water Pokémon. He looked up, and saw me standing in the doorway. "Oh, Teal?" he asked in a raspy voice. I nodded, and walked towards them. "Oh my Arceus, this Bulbasaur is so cute!" the redheaded girl squealed. "I'm gonna take this one." She said. Professor Oak nodded, and handed her the Pokéball.

"Nice choice, Garnet. Take good care of it." He said. He turned to me, and gestured towards the remaining Pokéballs. My mind raced; Squirtle or Charmander?

"I'll take Charmander." I immediately said.

"Cyn...Cynda... CYNDA!" A warm gust of air flew around my face and I opened my eyes wondering what just happened. I sat up and looked down to see my Cyndaquil staring up and me with smoke coming out of her nostrils.

"Ah, good morning Cyndaquil. I guess you're hungry. Grandpa probably made pancakes for us today. After all, it'll probably be my last breakfast here for a while." I smiled down at my Pokemon and then jumped off of the bed. "Ok! We'd better hurry, I want to get to the next town as soon as possible." Racing to my closet, I quickly picked out the outfit I was going to wear, got dressed, and ran down to the wonderful smell of pancakes my grandpa had made.

"Good morning Melani. Are you all packed ready?" My grandpa asked as he piled three pancakes onto a plate.

"Yep! All I need to get is the Pokedex from Professor Oak's lab and I'm off!"

"Alright then hurry up and eat, you don't want to be the last one to arrive now," Grandpa smiled and set the plate down in front of me. I grabbed my fork and began eating quickly.

"Okay, done." I stood up from the table, grabbed my bag, and headed to the door.

"Please be careful! Call me as soon as you get to the Pokemon Center," My grandpa yelled from the door as I ran to Professor Oak's lab.

"Right, right," I called back and turned to Cyndaquil who was running beside me. "We're almost at the lab." Just around the next corner I saw the front side of the lab. I started to slow down and Cyndaquil jumped up onto my bag. I pushed open the door and my eyes widened in amazement at all of the scientific material around the lab. Up ahead I saw the professor with a girl with red-brown hair. She approached me, her eyes filled with excitement.

"Hi.. I'm Melani." I said simply. The girl immediately started ranting about her journey to become the world's greatest Pokemon trainer. "So! What do you wanna choose for your starter Pokemon? Fire, water, or grass?" she asked. I let out a soft chuckle.. "You see, I'm not getting a starter Pokemon. I'm here for my PokeDex!" I explained. The girl slunk down with a soft, "Oh." and I turned towards the Professor.

"I'm ready for my Pokedex!" I told Professor Oak.

"Huh? Oh, Melani, hello. Yes your Pokedex is right over there on the counter. Whenever you encounter a Pokemon just open it and it'll record its data. Good luck and farewell!" The Professor took the Pokedex from the counter and handed it to me. I thanked him and nearly flew out the door and towards the wilderness.

"Ok Cyndaquil be prepared. Wild Pokemon could appear at any moment," I warned my Pokemon and she hopped off my back and took the lead through the grass.

I walked through the long grass with my ankle boots. Today is the day I'm starting my journey! I started thinking about becoming the greatest Pokemon trainer ever, maybe joining the Elite Four one day! I hugged my pink and white Pokemon cap I found who knows when. My mind drifted off from Pokemon training to my past life. It was.. Horrible. I shook the thought away when I tripped on a large rock. I fell plummeting, the heels of my shoes pushing against the hard surface of the rock. I landed with a hard groan. Getting up, I brushed off the debris off my face.

The falling incident certainly made my arrival at Professor Oak's Lab faster. I ran through the front doors, almost smashing into the automatic doors. Walking in I felt the humid air and warm temperature. Not at all what I thought it'd be like… it's so..stuffy. I cleared my mind when I saw Professor Oak coming toward me with a faked content expression, "Hi! I'm Professor Oak, we're a bit busy right now. Would you wait in the sitting area?" He gestured to the small uncomfortable wooden chairs made for people three feet or shorter.

I tried to make my unhappiness known in a collection of wisely chosen words. However, while I was thinking, my head somehow gave a nod. When I woke from my thoughts with the perfect sentence to say, Professor Oak was gone and I was sitting in the tiny chair. I slumped into my chair. Few minutes… half an hour… what time is it now? I growled but immediately lightened up when I saw a satisfied Pokemon trainer with a healthy looking Pokemon in their hands.

Soon, I saw a blond hair tightly wrapped in a high ponytail. "Hi.. I'm Melani." I rushed towards her and talked about my journey to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. I rambled on and on, all the while munching on a ripe Pink Lady apple. I finally ended my run-on by asking her a question. "So! What do you wanna choose for your starter Pokemon? Fire, water, or grass?" Melani chuckled softly. "You see, I'm not getting a starter Pokemon. I'm here for my PokeDex!" I shrunk down, "Oh.."

Professor Oak arrived about 17 minutes after, bringing them to the Lab. He brought 3 Pokemon in. He gestured to the Pokemon, "Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Meet the Kanto starter Pokemon. Bulbasaur is a grass Pokemon, Charmander is a fire, and Squirtle is a water type. Here are your PokeDex, too." He handed one to Melani and I. My eyes widened, "Oh my gosh! So cute! Squirtle, he's so cute!" I tapped the shell and received a slightly happy and slightly annoyed "Squirtle!"

"Wow. A Charmander! Fire Pokemon are so cool!" I turned my gaze to Bulbasaur, where I held my stare for a long time. "Bulba…saur.." I decided it. I wanted Bulbasaur. "Oh my Arceus, this Bulbasaur is so cute! I'm gonna take this one." Professor Oak squinted, "Nice choice, Garnet. Take good care of it." He handed Bulbasaur over to me. Soon enough, Charmander was taken my a girl with long blue-green hair.
