Two months after they started training, the brothers had been switched to daily academic courses. Their meetings with their respective Masters, Alden and Peth, had now been switched to weekly. In Sam's case, he was assisting senior Aethers to get practice using his gift. Dean had managed to access accounts left by their descendants. That was the official story regarding the accounts, which were actually their original bank accounts. A bit of red tape had been bypassed; the brothers had a hunch that Crowley had a hand in that. They had accessed just enough of their funds to do a couple of things. The first of which, Dean used to purchase a black shuttle car, which he promptly renamed Baby. The second, was to get some supplies for Baby, and they'd already painted the inside of the trunk with a sigil of protection.
"Alden brought me some interesting news today," Sam said to Dean as he entered their dorm.
"Really, what was it?" Dean asked, interested on anything new Alden brought their way.
"Well, you remember that plan of Jade's, right?" Sam asked Dean.
"Yeah, but she never came and asked us for help," Dean replied. "Why, what happened?"
"She went ahead with the plan without us," Sam said, handing Dean a beer from their fridge.
"She what?" Dean asked, glaring at Sam. "She did that without any kind of backup? Why didn't she come get us?"
"You know we wouldn't have been able to go, we were just starting our training with the masters. They would have killed us if we'd tried to skip training to help her. Jade probably knew that too, which is why she didn't come get us," Sam reminded Dean.
"You're right, she's smarter than that," Dean said. "So, what actually happened when she put her plan in motion?"
"She got shot at," Sam said.
"She what?" Dean asked, glaring at Sam again.
"Got shot at by McKay," Sam said. "Before you go off on a tangent, Muher had her followed by one of his own. Captain Lamont Cranston, from what I've heard about him from others, he's one of the best in the Corps."
"Go on," Dean said, still not liking what he was hearing, but feeling better about it since he knew Muher wasn't an idiot.
"Long story short, Cranston put a knife through McKay's gun hand and brought him in. Cranston was already bleeding from a shoulder wound, and still managed to get them back to the compound safely. However, as you can guess, Muher was not pleased with how this whole thing went down," Sam said.
"What did Muher do to them? Shoulder wounds bleed fast, we've had couple of those ourselves." Dean said.
"Yes, we have. Muher assigned Cranston to train Jade in the use of weapons. From what I heard, a knife and a pistol, both of which are common. You'll love this, they both hate working together. Some of the officers were talking in the mess hall, you could hear them butting heads every morning. Lamont is upset because she isn't up to his level after two months," Sam said, drinking from his bottle.
"If she's had nothing but hand-to-hand training up until this point, he should know that you can't just train someone to be an expert at weapons within a couple of months," Dean said, shaking his head before taking a drink.
"Muher seems to be getting a kick out of it, according to the officers. They're taking bets on who'll win the battle of wills," Sam said with a chuckle.
"My money's on Jade," Dean said, handing Sam the file that he was looking at. "This is one of the people who has unrestricted access to the dorms. Does he look familiar?"
"Not to me," Sam said, looking at the picture. "Who is he?"
"C.R. Owley emailed me," Dean said, waiting for Sam to recognize the name Crowley now used. "He let me know that after he sent us through, the duke of hell, Gusion, left without telling him where he was going. Because the duke could see the future, he was the one that told him about the way the world was going to end if he didn't send us here. I hadn't seen him before now either. The email had this image attached."
"Think the duke was trying to throw Crowley off by telling him what would happen if he didn't send us through the portal?" Sam asked, looking through the file. "Looks like he's a Healer in good standing, which would explain how he would have unlimited access to the dorms."
"Healers can be called upon to use their gift at all hours," Dean said, grinning at Sam. "If he was using magic, that wasn't a part of his Healing duties, no one would think twice unless they knew what to look for. No one here knows the older magic like we do."
"But if Gusion can see the future, surely he knows we're going to come after him," Sam said. "How are we going to get him to show his hand?"
"The same way we always do, investigate any leads, and hunt him until we defeat him. If it is Gusion, we're going to need to bring our A game," Dean said. "We can expect him to be two steps ahead of us, with only the occasional email from C.R. Owley to assist us."
"Should we bring Jade in on this?" Sam asked.
"Not yet, I think we should talk this over with Alden and Muher first. Alden can relay our findings to Master Tristan to see if he has any additional thoughts. We need to get this guy," Dean said. "Because we are the only ones that can, and because it gives me a chance to do what I do best. I get to drive Baby."
