Disclaimer: I think we all know I don't own Pokemon. ._.
I cheered for my friend as she beat Brock. If only I could beat him.. I mean, I did have the type advantage. If we're doing probability on type advantages, Teal would definitely lose. But... I'm talking about pure skill right now. I whipped my knitted sack around to my back, taking my metal water bottle out. I took a long swig, my heart beating faster and faster as I saw Melani exit back to the seats.
"Alright. Who's next" Brock gave a sly grin. I abruptly stopped the flow of water into my burning mouth. I fastened the cap and set my tote on the seats, grabbing my Pokeball containing my Bulbasaur. My shaky legs walked down slowly to my spot.
"Alright, Bulbasaur, I choose you!" I caught the Pokeball again as Bulbasaur gave a long shrill, "Bulbaa-saur!" Brock yelled, "Alright! Geodude, you're healed up! Come out!"
My Bulbasaur readied his stance as I gave him the command. "Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!" Brock muttered, "Geodude, dodge!" I smacked my lips, frustrated. That Vine Whip would've been powerful! I gave a firm "Hrmph", but then I saw that Brock's Geodude had been too slow, and that my Bulbasaur's attack hit it! It wasn't exactly spot on, but it was a pretty darn good hit considering how oddly the Geodude moved around.
With my confidence rising, I smirked. "Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip again, and try to finish him off!" The Geodude began rising up again when my Vine Whip smacked it right back down. The referee held a serious face and rose a flag. "Geodude is unable to battle. Bulbasaur wins!"
"Alright!" I yelled triumphantly to my Bulbasaur. He came up to me with a happy expression, "You were great, try defeating the next one, alright?" I sent the Bulbasaur back. Brock brought out his next Pokemon. Onix. I was at first scared by the big size. "U-uh, B-Bulbasaur. Use Vine W-w" In my confused mind, I didn't react fast enough when I saw a huge amount of rocks plummeting my small Bulbasaur. "Bulbaa!" It gave a shrill cry. "Bulbasaur! Are you okay? Shake it off! Use Vine Whip!" My Bulbasaur extended its vines and began whipping the Onix back and forth. It roared with a frustrated cry. I couldn't hear a thing, honestly! The Onix came back again, using it's body as a massive weight, intending to slam my Bulbasaur again. "Bulbasaur, dodge!" I panicked. The green body quickly dodged it.
"All right, Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip one more time!" I needed more moves, of course it knew more! But Vine Whip was the most effective. With all the damage Onix took with being slammed by the hard floor, vine whipped once, it shouldn't be hard to finish it off." I woke from my trance.
The first words I heard were, "Onix! We can't lose! Get back up!" The Onix rose up slightly again, obviously struggling. I began to shout out another command, but the Onix fell down again. It had fainted! Brock sighed, "Great job, Onix! Return." I gave a loud scream of happiness and hugged my Bulbasaur, "You were great! You defeated the first Gym! You'll be getting some wonderful flavored Pokemon food later!" My Bulbasaur returned to my Pokeball.
Brock walked up, "Here you go. You received the Boulder Badge."
I stared simple shiny badge. Just an octagon shape; dazzling with bright shiny silver. "T-Thank you, Brock!" I ran up to my bag and clutched it, slightly wincing by the sharp jagged objects poking me. But oh well. I was far too happy to care! "Teal, you're up!" I grinned and scooted over to Melani. I looked down at Brock as he reminded us to try Misty's Gym next, again. He gained a sparkle in his eyes as he started rambling about how unique and beautiful Misty was. I scooted back. This Brock man sure was a hopeless...lover? Don't know, really. Last thing I knew, he was sparking out quickly to heal his Pokemon.
"Good job, Garnet!" I said, racing over to the redheaded girl.
"Thanks!" she replied, calling back her Bulbasaur. I reached into my pocket, and pulled out my two Pokéballs. I knew I had the disadvantage; my Pokémon weren't like Melani's or Garnet's, who had a Pokémon with the advantage. Then again, my Pokémon were strong, right? I was a good trainer, too. My parents were both gym leaders; that had to count for something, right?
"Alright, I'm back!" a deep voice rang from the door. It was Brock, his two Pokéballs in hand. He ran back up to the battlefield, and I quickly jumped up to my feet.
"Who's next?" Brock asked.
"Me!" I called excitedly.
"Alright, step up." Brock gestured to the battlefield. I swiftly ran up, and took out Spearow's Pokéball. Brock's Geodude seemed easy; Garnet and Melani made short work of it. Surely my Spearow could take it out? Dad always said Flying-type Pokémon were the best, but then again, he only had Flying type. "Okay, Geodude. Come on out!" Brock roared, and released his Geodude. Arceus that thing was creepy. It was like a hunk of rock with two arms sticking out.
"Spearow! Go!" I called, and in a flash of red light, the Pokémon was released.
"Geodude, use Tackle!" Brock commanded. The Geodude charged at Spearow (it was pretty cool to watch the Geodude move so naturally, considering it's lack of legs), it's arms ready to ram into Spearow. "Spearow, fly above it!" I commanded, my mind whirling. Spearow quickly flew above the Geodude quickly, dodging the attack. His wings flapped viscously as he fought to stay airborne. I opened my mouth to command an attack. What were his moves again? Fury Attack, Peck…
"Use Fury Attack from above, Spearow!" I ordered.
"Tackle!"
My Pokémon charged down at the Geodude, and rammed his beak into Geodude's head multiple times. Geodude thrashed around, landing a blow to my Pokémon's side. Spearow fell to the ground with a loud cry of pain, and my heart nearly skipped a beat.
"C'mon, Spearow! Get up!" I said frantically. My Pokémon let out a cry of determination, and slowly got up, his small legs quavering. I let a smile spread across my lips. I was going to win!
"Spearow, use your best Fury Attack!" I called, and my Spearow lunged at Geodude, letting out a shout of anger and determination.
"Defense Curl!" Brock commanded. Spearow quickly hit Geodude with its beak repeatedly, and the Geodude fell to the ground. I watched intently, waiting for the referee to announce that Geodude couldn't battle anymore. It felt like years before the referee finally called.
"You did a good job Geodude." Brock said as she recalled his fainted Pokémon. Yes! First one down, only one more to go! I thought as I sent Spearow back into his Pokéball.
"Great job, Spearow!" I said to the red and white ball.
"Alright, time for the real deal! Onix, go!" Brock called as he through his Pokéball. Out came the huge lumbering rock-type Pokémon. I gulped. You would think that after seeing that huge Pokémon twice, I wouldn't be staring at it like a shocked Hoothoot. I shook my head, snapping my mind out of the fog. I threw the Pokéball, and out came...Spearow. I slapped my head against my forehead and slowly dragged it down. Oops. I held out the Pokéball and recalled my tired Spearow, who was looking around, giving me a look that screamed, "Don't you dare let me battle again." I quickly dug around my pocket for Charmander's Pokéball, and briskly released my starter.
"Alright, Onix. Use Rock Tomb!" Brock commanded. Onix gave out a huge roar, and my ears started ringing. "Charmander, use Dragon Rage!" I yelled, hoping that my Pokémon would hear over the deafening roar of Onix.
I could barely tell what happened next. All I could hear was my Charmander crying in pain, and then another roar from Onix. "Charmander?" I called. I looked around, and saw Charmander buried under a pile of rocks. "Charmander! Get up and use Dragon Rage again!" I yelled. She scrambled out of the stones, scratches covering her body. Charmander opened her mouth, and soon a bright purple beam came out and hurled itself at Onix. I saw Brock command for an attack, but I couldn't make out anything. Arceus that Onix was so loud!
"Scratch!"
"Tackle!"
The commands roared around the room. My ears rang from the noise, and I struggled to stay focused. I wasn't going to lose! No! Never! "Smoke Screen!" I shouted, remembering Melani's technique. Soon enough, the room was filled with thick black smoke.
"Rock Tomb!"
"Dodge it!"
"Tackle!"
"Dragon Rage!"
A bone-chilling cry from Onix. A weak yell of pain from Charmander. I strained my eyes, trying to see through the thick smoke. In the middle of the haze lay Onix and Charmander, both collapsed on the ground. "C'mon Onix! Get up! We can't lose this!" Brock urged. "Charmander, up!"
I watched waiting for Charmander to get up and win me this battle. C'mon…I couldn't lose this! I was too good to lose the battle! "Char-Charmander!" My starter let out a shout, and she soon got up, her legs ready to give in at any time.
"Onix is unable to battle. The winner is the challenger Teal from Fuchsia City!" Yes!
As soon as the ref announced Teal as the winner, I got up and started cheering, "Yes! We all won! In your face Brock!" Brock gave me a disapproving look before handing Teal the Boulder Badge. I quickly sat down and stared down at Cyndaquil below me.
"Well let's get moving. I want to get to the next gym as soon as possible," Garnet jumped out of her seat on the bleachers and ran up to Teal. Cyndaquil and I followed and we headed out of the gym doors.
"So, um, the next gym is Viridian right? Or wait… we just came from Viridian. Ugh, don't tell me we skipped a gym," I reached into my bag trying to find the map. Note to self, clean out your bag at the next rest stop. Arceus it was like a tornado went through it. I'd thought I had it all neat and orderly when I left home. At last I found the map and opened it up.
"Finally, so where's the next gym?" Garnet asked peeking over my shoulder to look at the map.
"Um, it looks like Cerulean. Oh! I remember now. My grandpa told me the Viridian gym is often closed because the leader goes away a lot. Sounds kind of irresponsible to me. I mean, there are tons of trainers who go around challenging gyms so wouldn't it be smart t-" Teal cut me off just as we exited Pewter. "Okay, we get it Melani. Now let's get moving." "Sorry… Hey it looks like we'll have to go through some sort of cave in order to get to Cerulean," I still had the map in my hands and I was staring down at the little cave marked as "Mt. Moon." Garnet's Pikachu suddenly perked up and hopped onto my head.
"Pikaa…" It stared down at my face with a blank look.
"Hey! Get off! Garnet, tell it to get off of me. It's gonna shock me!" I dropped the map and started running around trying to get the Pikachu off of my head. After many failed attempts the Pikachu jumped off, walked over to a bush and plucked off a berry. It then walked over and dropped it at my feet.
"Pi," it pushed the berry towards me, "kachu." Then held out it's small little arm.
"Err… what's it doing?" I looked over at Garnet, hoping she would know. After all, it was her Pokemon.
"I don't know," she shrugged.
"Maybe it wants to be your friend?" Teal suggested. "You know, make peace or whatever." I thought for a moment and then looked back at Pikachu. "Well if that's what you want; sure. Sorry for attacking you back at the Viridian forest. I just wanted to train up my Pokemon," I smiled and Pikachu smiled back. Then it took back the berry and ran back to Garnet.
"Alright now that that's settled, let's finally get moving," Garnet started walking off toward the large mountain called Mt. Moon. The walk was quite peaceful and nice until we all suddenly felt sand being thrown at us. "Sand? We aren't near a beach," Teal searched around her wondering where the sand was coming from.
"I hear a noise! Over here guys," Garnet raced over to a bush and looked over to the other side. A small golden-brownish Pokemon was wondering around and apparently using sand attack. Teal opened her Pokedex and it told us the Pokemon's information: Sandshrew, the ground-mouse Pokemon. It burrows deep underground in arid locations far from water. It only emerges to hunt for food.
"Oh! I'm going to catch it. It sounds really cool," Teal quickly shoved her Pokedex in her bag and called out her Charmander.
"Hey, I'm the one who found it. I want to catch it," Garnet looked over at Teal and crossed her arms.
"Not if I do first!" I already had my Poliwag out and was ready to battle this Sandshrew. "Poliwag, Water Gun!" Poliwag shot out a burst of water and the Sandshrew flew back. That attack was really effective. "Hey, no fair! Charmander, Ember!" Teal's Charmander pushed my Poliwag aside and used it's Ember attack. The poor Sandshrew got thrown back again and had more trouble getting up. I then decided I didn't even want this Pokemon. I already have three Pokemon and I want to explore more and find new ones. I withdrew Poliwag and stepped back.
"Well I still want it. Pikachu use Thundershock!" Garnet's Pikachu let out a spark of electricity and the Sandshrew didn't even notice. "Wh-What? Why wasn't it damaged?"
"Sandshrew's a ground type, so electricity doesn't effect it!" Teal said teasingly and then went back to focusing on catching the Sandshrew. "Alright, you're mine. Go, Pokeball!" The Sandshrew seemed on the verge of fainting, so I thought Teal had a pretty good chance of catching it. Sure enough, the Pokeball clicked and the Sandshrew was caught.
"Nice catch," Garnet muttered, looking at the ground.
"Oh I know," Teal smiled and put Sandshrew's Pokeball in her bag.
"Now we all have three Pokemon," I said. "So we'll be even more prepared for Mt. Moon!"
Again, sorry for like fail spelling mistakes, inconsistency, and blah. Our newer chapters have a better format, and I think we check it better. xD
