Chapter 3:The first layer edge of the abyss
Riko woke up as she slept on Reg soft belly and noticed how his arms were hanging all around them to keep away monsters.She sat up and noticed her brother Chris twisting and turning and screaming in pain.She noticed her brother was breathing heavy and ran to his side and woke up Reg as Chris hit one part of reg arms with a kick as he slept.She started to shake Chris who woke up a few seconds later.She hugged her brother who was shaking in terror.She rubbed her brother's head as well.
"It's alright Chris your safe"She said feeling her brother crying in her arms.
Chris hugged his sister tighter and knocked her down into the grass.He smiled as she let go of him. He got up and helped his sister up.He then helped Reg get his arms retracted.He looked at his sister Riko and Reg.He walked a little ahead of them and found himself lost in thought as he almost fell off a ledge and felt Reg save him.He smiled at Reg and scratched his face as Riko yelled at him for almost falling into the depths of the abyss again.
"Sorry I got lost in thought,thinking about my night terror"He said.
Riko nodded and sighed as thier stomach's rumbled.She smiled and watched as Chris gathered some fire wood.She went and looked around the woods for some vegetables.She then headed back a few seconds later and saw Chris was undressed and noticed scars on his back.She saw Chris sighed as she noticed him and quickly get dressed.She heard Reg call her over and noticed a mountain of fish.She placed the vegetables near the fish and grabbed her knife and started to prepare the fish.
Reg took Chris hand as Riko was making the soup and pulled him aside.He took a breath and crossed his arms.He then placed his left hand on his face.
Chris sighed and placed his left hand on Reg right shoulder.
"you wanna know why I jumped into the water with my shield"He asked.
Reg nodded thinking to how Chris was beating up fish with his shield as a barrier protected him.
Chris relaxed "I was testing the shield power that protected me when I fell into the depths of the abyss"He said.
Reg punched Chris in the arm and took a breath as Riko called to them that the soup was done.He walked over to Riko with Chris.He took a bowl of soup as did Chris.
Riko smiled "Time for some Riko stew"She said.
Chris ate his soup and relaxed and took a breath.He looked to Riko and Reg and had a second bowl of soup.
"Sorry Reg for testing the power of the shield,Since it protects me but if anyone else touches it I suffer all the curses of the abyss at once and then have to take my medicine"He said.
Reg sighed and punched Chris shoulder.
"It's fine but why did you have to be naked"He said.
Riko coughed into her right hand and glared at both boys.
"Let's finish eating and then get to the second layer of the abyss the forest of temptation"She said.
Reg nodded and remembered the letter he found earlier and didn't open.He handed it to Riko and noticed Chris and her looking at it after opening it.He watched as Chris and Riko both had grim looks on their faces and handed him the letter.He looked through the papers and saw it was their mom's Liza research and saw a letter from leader.He gulped after reading it and quickly helped cover up their campsite.He noticed Riko dropped her star compass and tried to catch it with his arm.He noticed Chris grabbed his right hand and started running as Riko grabbed his left hand.
He felt out of breath after they stopped running.
"Chris,and Riko think we got far enough away?"He asked noticing Chris looking up.
Chris sighed as did Riko as they were hugged by their uncle Habo-san.
Reg crossed his arms and scratched his face.
"Um Habo-san,are you here to drag the three of us back even though Chris is a black whistle and me and Riko are red whistles"He asked.
Habo put down Chris and Riko and picked up Reg and inspected him and then put him down as Reg was embarrassed.
"Not at all,I am here to help you to get to the seeker's camp"He said.
Riko sighed along with Chris and Reg.
"This is our final test from leader,If we don't then Chris is back to being a bell and becomes a test subject and our journey with Reg will be over before it has even begun"She said.
Habo hugged the three of them and waved them off after giving them supplies.
Chris relaxed as they lowered to the forest of temptation.He hugged Reg and Riko.
"We passed the test,now let's do our best to find out mom Liza"He said.
Riko hugged her brother back and nodded as they heard the sounds of monsters.
"Let's hurry along Reg and Chris"She said as both boys nodded.
