"Have you seen Shira tonight?" the woman asks her companion

"Yes, that dress! It is like she is trying to prove that she is one of us and not that she trapped poor Mitchum into a marriage by getting pregnant. I mean we all know it happened, why act like it is such a shock!" the friend replies with a bored tone, "truly an odious woman"

"Did you see how she treated poor Rory? The girl has been through so much lately with the loss of her parents and grandparents. All in one evening! And now she is the guardian of her sister. The girl is barely 22!"

"Can you imagine the conversation that must have taken place when she found out that Rory was now a legal guardian? As if she will let them near her children! I wonder how Logan is taking everything."

Shira had just about heard enough- she had been perfectly cordial to the girl Logan still insisted on calling his girlfriend. Three years and they were still attached at the hip as if she was the best thing since sliced bread. Tuning the old biddies out, Shira motioned for a waiter to bring her another glass of wine and surveyed the room hoping to find her son. Surely he would probably be with Rory, getting her a tissue, arm wrapped around her waist making sure she was supported during this tragic time. And it was tragic, a car crash wiped out two generations of Gilmore's and the Hayden heir as they were heading back from dinner. Rumor had it that they had decided to move their Friday Night Dinner to The Club to celebrate Lorelai's birthday- though why a birthday was that big of a deal for a grown adult was completely lost on her.

"He truly is the perfect gentleman! Did you see him with little Gigi? Oh they truly look like a little family-"

Shira cringed at the overheard comment. "A little family", how completely far off. Did the child look like a Huntzburger, why yes she had perfect blond hair in ringlets just like Honor did at that age. She even had bright blue eyes like Rory. She cringed again as she realized that it truly was the perfect match up of the two young adults. Sighing she took her glass from the waiter and nodded a dismissal.

Rory was in the corner with Logan speaking to a group of townies from that little town she was raised in. Shira knew those types of people- though she was loath to admit it she was raised in that circle, she knew how kind hearted those kinds could be. Those types did not mesh with the upper crest of Hartford society. Why Logan chose to drag this on would baffle her until her dying day.

No matter how kind and intelligent the girl was, she was not Huntzburger material! She wanted to work, and hearing all about her mother this evening only proved that she was a product of her environment. Her mother craved that independence and instilled a strong work ethic within her child that developed into a need to be the best. Truly She couldn't blame her, coming from small towns often instilled big dreams, ones that would ensure that you would leave your little nest and see something of the world. She just didn't want to see this girl cling onto her son.

A little blond girl walked up to Logan and reached her arms up indicating she wished to be picked up. Handing his glass over to Rory he picked up the girl and bounced her, talking in her ear as she laid her head on his shoulder. All the while Rory watched on with a look of adoration in her eyes, leaned over and kissed his cheek.

If it was anyone else Shira may concede that the pair were well matched. All throughout the night they fed off each other's energy. When they were apart their eyes would find each other across the room. If Logan noticed that Rory had an empty glass he would bring her a fresh drink and rub her back. Subtle, subtle little things that indicated that they were serious about each other enough to know their tells.

"I hear that little girl is already living with them!"

"Oh I can hear Emily rolling over in her grave already!"

"Emily, may she rest in peace would die again! I wonder if his family knows yet that they are all living together? Could you imagine that family dinner? Oh the fireworks!"

"Oh let's hope no explosives would be readily available with the way Shira smokes, they'd likely set fire to the house!"The ladies all laughed.

"But then again I am shocked that the house is still standing as is. Haven't you heard Mitchum was seen out to dinner with a very young model. Apparently she is closer to Logan's age! It's no wonder with Shira as your spouse you'd need a more pleasant outlet!

It wasn't uncommon for Shira to be talked about in such a manner, Emily Gilmore herself had some choice words for her at the DAR USO Gala last year. All the same Shira cringed at the evil villain portrait that was being painted. If only these women understood what she wanted for her son!

"Hello ladies, having a nice time are we?" Rory asked the gossips in a sickeningly sweet voice.

"Oh yes! Constance was just filling us in on the latest DAR gossip!"

"Oh lovely, well I would ask that you refrain from speaking ill about other guests here. I don't think my Grandparents or parent's memories should be associated with such vial rumors. Seems a little crass."

"Oh Rory we were just speaking of things that were public knowledge!" Constance flusters, "it's not as if the Huntzburgers' have welcomed you with open arms. Really we all know what Shira has said about you-"

"Mrs. Huntzburger has been nothing but nice to me since I have been dating her son. Mr. Huntzburger offered me an amazing internship to help me get my foot in the door and Honor has been an amazing friend to me." Rory says sternly, "I don't care what the rumor mill says about them- they are kind people who only want the best for their son. I can only imagine how difficult it would be for your child to introduce someone into your family and hope they approve. Luckily my parent's have always been supportive of whomever I brought through our door whether it was a friend or boyfriend. If you would rather gossip I ask that you leave, I hear there is a great coffee shop down the street that may be a better venue for your discussion."

With that Shira watched as Rory walked over to a blond girl around her own age. She was clearly agitated gesturing around the room as the blond girl nodded her head and replied to whatever was said.

The chair next to Shira pulled out and Mitchum sat down. "I didn't know you were out to dinner last week with a model."

He chuckles and grabs her hand from under the table- "Ah yes, Stephanie Vanderbilt needed advice on a post college endeavor. Seems that Rory may have rubbed off on her, she is wanting to start a fashion blog and was hoping I may have some connections."

"The ladies have all been talking about it- unfortunately it would seem that they believe you are stepping outside our martial contract."

Mitchum leans forward and whispers in her ear, "Darling you know better than to believe bitter housewives." He leans back and takes a sip from his highball glass, "Now tell me what are we watching."

Staring at the couple I lean back in my chair, "It would see we are watching the beginning of the new Huntzberger Dynasty in the making."
