Logan led Rory and Gigi through the Marriott Marquis lobby and over to the check in desk. All the while he head Gigi marvel at the large lobby and glass elevators that were in constant motion. He heard Rory give explanations for the elevators and tell her that we too would get to ride in one, Rory made sure each of Gigi's questions were answered in great details.
Completing the check in he turned around and laughed, Gigi was head up to the ceiling twirling around quickly. Logan lurched forward and grabbed her just as a businessman nearly crashed into her.
"Watch where your daughter walks, this is a hotel not a circus", the man grunted as he continued on past them and into the lobby restaurant.
Rory muffled a laugh behind her hand as she watched Logan's face turn red, "Woah there tiger- no need to protect the cub quite yet. Everything is fine, let's go up to the room", she placed her hand gently on his wrist and watched as he immediately calmed down.
Crouching down to pick up Gigi he sighed, "It's too early in the trip to start a fight- but I swear if we run into him again and he says something-"
"Yes I know, you will defend Gigi's honor and we will bow at your feet." Rory rolled her eyes, "Now do I need to get your armor polished or can you do that on your own?"
"I don't know polished armor is very distinguished but if it has some tarnishes he may be intimidated by my obvious valor"
"Okay my little gladiator, I was only joking"
"Well I wasn't! You don't think Henry is just for looks do you!"
"Logan!"
"Hey Finn has personally tried him on for size and believe it or not you can fit a human inside of Henry!"
"Oh my god!" Rory shook her head and turned to the elevator
"Hey! Wait did you just say I had a little gladiator because last night you said-"
Rory whipped her head around and shot him a glare, "Choose your next words very carefully Huntzberger- my baby sister is on your hip and I am not scared to smack you in public"
Logan turned his head to Gigi who had been watching the elevators intently, glancing back at Rory he laughed, "Feisty" he muttered before passing her and feeling her smack the back of his head.
The three entered the suite ten minutes later, Gigi wiggled down from Logan's hip and ran to the windows overlooking Times Square, "Logie! Logie! Look at the lights!" she squealed as she pointed out the window.
Logan walked over and crouched down to her level, "Yup that's Times Square- there are tons of people down there at all times of day and night." turning back he saw Rory snapping a picture of the two of them. "Hey bug what do you say we turn around so Ace can take a picture of us with it behind us?"
Gigi jumped around and placed herself right in front of Logan with her arms wrapped around his neck, "Smile big and say cheese!" Rory called as she took the photo. Looking down at the little point and shoot she smiled, it was the perfect photo of the two of them.
"Hey guys lets see the rest of the room okay?" Rory said as she put the camera on the table.
Logan stood up and reached out to pull Rory into his chest, "I hope you know that there will be plenty of time for us too" he whispered in her ear. She shivered at the implications and he chuckled in response.
"Okay!" Logan clapped his hands while taking a step back from Rory, "Gigi you want to see your room?"
"She has her own room!" Rory called after the pair as they walked to the far side of the suite. "She is 3! Why does she need her own room, surely we could have just gotten a pull out couch or two queen beds!"
Logan turned back around and smirked, "I'm sure Gigi doesn't want to hear us snoring", he winked at Rory, "Right Gigi?"
Gigi nodded her head and tugged Logan into "her room", "Wow! That's a big bed!" she said as she ran over and jumped on the mattress.
"Yes it is but we have a few rules okay?", Gigi nodded her head, "Okay rule number one is that when it is time for bed you keep the door slightly open, rule two is you are not to take a bath without one of us there, you also cannot leave this suite without one of us okay?" Logan looked directly in Gigi's eyes, "Anything else you wanna add Ace?"
Rory took a step forward, "Gigi we want to have a lot of fun on this trip and while we are in London but we need to make sure that you are safe and well behaved okay? So if you want to look at something or are hungry let us know- don't just wander off okay?"
Gigi stared at the two adults and nodded her head, "Okay- can we go outside now?"
Logan and Rory smiled at her, "We need to wait for our bags to be delivered and then we can go get some dinner okay?"
Twenty minutes later the three were walking hand in hand out of the Lobby and onto the street. They noticed a coffee shop right around the corner and decided to try it. Juniors Cheesecake was a vintage coffee shop open 24 hours a day. When they walked in they were greeted by a showcase of all their famous desserts and tons of orange and white decor. They were quickly shown to a booth by the window and sat down.
The rest of the evening went fairly quickly after an easy dinner they decided to brave the cold for a little longer walking up and down Times Square. They walked through the different shops and stores, they even made it over to ride the ferris wheel at Toys R Us, Gigi was squealing the entire time.
At a quarter to 10 they decided to call it an evening and head back to the hotel for bath time and a very late bed time for Gigi. Before they left they decided to let Gigi stay up later than at home, hoping it would get her to sleep in a little more in the morning. Logan and Rory put Gigi to bed and made it back out to the living room area. Cuddled on the couch they decided to forgo a movie and just watch the lights of the city.
"Have I said thank you yet?" Rory whispered
"You don't need to Ace"
Rory sighed and moved to stradle his hips, "I might not need to but I would really like to." She leaned in and kissed him sweetly, "That is unless you would rather I just went to bed"
Rory squealed as Logan's hands went to her waist and picked her up, "Shh Ace, we have to be quiet." He chuckled as he kissed her neck and walked them into their room, closing the door to their room. "Seems like we have a lot to be thankful for"
The next day Logan slipped out of bed before 7, entering the bathroom to take a quick shower and get changed. He left Rory a note that he had to meet Mitchum at the office and that he would be back as soon as he could. Once outside he hailed a cab and directed the driver to the HPG corporate office downtown.
To say Logan was nervous would be an understatement. When the cab pulled up to the office building he quickly got out, paid the driver and made his way to the lobby. Waving at the security he flashed his badge and entered the elevator, hit the 32nd floor and waited. The ride felt like it went on forever- Logan fretted about the meeting with his father- though they both knew why they were here he was anxious to get back to Rory and Gigi. The ding of the elevator brought him back to reality, he stepped into the quiet office and headed in the direction of Mitchum's office.
Logan looked up at the plaque on the door Mitchum Huntzberger President & CEO, he sighed and opened the door. There sat his father behind a sturdy desk looking over a never ending pile of paperwork.
"You look like you are going to the gallows" Mitchum muttered
"I feel more like I'm up against the firing squad"
Mitchum sighed and looked up from the pile, "Don't be so dramatic", he rolled his eyes and stretched his neck. "Now sit, there are some things I want to talk to you about before we get to why you're here."
Logan walked forward and sat in the chair opposite his father, "Of course, can't just have a quick conversation-"
"Logan I could have been done already if you hadn't started complaining", he looked at Logan with a raised eyebrow daring him to contradict his statement, "It is not my goal to keep you here long, I know you have plans this weekend. I have the ring here," he pulled open his desk drawer and placed the little black velvet box in the middle of the desk, "I am not going to barter with you or tell you that you shouldn't propose. You are a grown man and you know what you want. In that same sense though there are things I want you to know."
Mitchum sighed and turned to face the windows looking out on Central Park, "I married your mother out of contractual circumstances. She was pregnant, our families thought it was the best thing at the time. We could barely stand to be in the same room- I resented her from ending my fun and she resented me for not loving her. Slowly throughout the years we grew to respect one another, that respect slowly turned to something akin to love. If nothing else there was a partnership we had. We tried Logan, I know most of the time I failed and your mother didn't handle things well but we tried. We didn't have role models to turn to for parenting advice.
"My father was a right bastard and your mother's parents weren't much better. They demanded excellence and made their grievances known if you did not bow down to their plans." Mitchum stopped talking and turned to face Logan, "I know it doesn't make sense as to why I am saying all this now but I promise I have a point."
Mitchum moved back to his desk, heaving out a breath as he sat back down, "I am proud of you Logan. You have turned into a good man- you have found a partner in life that loves you. Rory is a great girl and I know we had our reservations when you started your relationship but she has proven us wrong. She is smart, she brings out the best in you and challenges you. You both challenge each other and I have watched you with Gigi and you have been a better father figure to her in a mere few months than I have to you in years. It's how I know that this marriage will work and it is why without any hesitation can give you this ring."
Mitchum slid the ring box further across the desk so it was right in front of Logan. "Son, I haven't told you enough how proud I am of you. You are the man I wish I could have been all those years ago."
Logan picked up the box and flipped it open, clearing his throat he looked back at his Dad, "I only have ever wanted to make you proud." He closed the box and put it in his pocket, and slowly stood. "We are going to be in the city until tomorrow, did you want to join us for dinner?"
Mitchum shook his head in the negative, "No you three enjoy your getaway. I will see you on the jet next week- maybe we can catch up better than."
With his dismissal Logan left his father's office and made his way back to the elevator, down to the lobby and back in another cab. His mind raced through his father's words all the way back to the hotel and back up another elevator that led to Rory- his Ace.
He took his suit jacket off as he entered the suite, laying it on the back of the couch and quietly kicking off his shoes. He made his way over to Gigi's room and noted that she was still asleep, turning around and quickly walking over to their room. He unbuttoned his shirt and stripped himself of his pants, leaving him only in his boxers. He slid under the covers and pulled Rory close to him, breathing in the smell of her shampoo.
"Did you go somewhere?" She asked half asleep
"Shhh, go back to sleep Ace" He replied
Within minutes they were both back to their dreams with smiles on their faces.
