Here's the long-awaited chapter two!
I'm still building towards something :)
Their next conversation started out primarily focused on Mythic Quest. They'd moved from LinkedIn to Instagram. Poppy's Instagram was full of poorly taken selfies that Brad and Ian had both criticized her for. Frankie's Instagram had one picture of her and her sisters from ten years ago when Instagram had first started.
Poppy: Are you any good?
Frankie: I'm decent. And I like the lore
Poppy: I'll tell CW that
Poppy: Actually no I probably won't he's a little weird
Frankie: Creative types amirite
Poppy: I'm a creative type
Frankie: I'm so sorry I was just joking
Poppy: Relax, I'm kidding. I know creative types are weird. I literally couldn't work anywhere else but Mythic Quest
Frankie: Felt that
Poppy: Are there a lot of creative types where you used to work?
Frankie: Sort of? People came and went at Greendale, and I came at the tail end of… Something
Frankie: Everyone was certainly unique
Poppy: Tell me about them
Frankie: Well I worked mostly with the dean, Craig, and the law teacher, Jeff.
Frankie: Craig was a character. Well, they both were, but Craig moreso. Very gullible, very easy to take advantage of, and very… Vibrant
Poppy: Vibrant how?
Frankie: He was always dressing up in these crazy costumes. It was ridiculous but they all suited him. He was weird but he loved the school a lot and it destroyed him when the pandemic hit and Greendale had to close.
Poppy: He sounds a bit like my boss, David. Very easy to take advantage of but also very dedicated to MQ. I hope Craig is able to find something new to be passionate about.
Frankie: Me too. I'm afraid he's gonna fall for one of those pyramid schemes. I've been sending him Anti-MLM videos, but he took it the wrong way and thought I was being homophobic until I explained what MLM stood for in that context
Poppy: Is he gay?
Frankie: He's a lot of things. I think the umbrella term is queer?
Poppy: Ah yes the queer umbrella
Poppy: I know it well
Frankie: Me too
They did not say anything more on that topic.
Poppy: What about Jeff?
Frankie: There's not a lot to say about Jeff. He was a law teacher who failed at being a lawyer. I think he's trying to get back into law now that Greendale's shut down. He loves his friends and he begrudgingly loved the school and I think he hates change as much as the rest of us.
Poppy: Anyone else I should know about?
Frankie: Well, everyone at Greendale was eccentric. My friend Abed might be of some interest, he's a filmmaker who views everything through the lens of a TV show or a movie. I started playing MQ with him and his husband Troy
Poppy: So you've reached out to people since we talked?
Frankie: A little
Frankie: Have you?
Poppy: A little. I mostly have work friends, it seems. But they're not so bad
Frankie: Okay, your turn, tell me about them.
Poppy: One of my most recent pictures is of me, Ian, David, and Brad. David was the only one who wanted to be in the photo tho
Frankie: I'll check it out
Frankie: Okay, I know what Ian looks like from press coverage, and I'm guessing David is the one who's smiling.
Poppy: Yup
Frankie: That's really weird
Poppy: David is weird
Frankie: No
Frankie: What's weird is that Brad looks almost exactly like Abed
Poppy: Trippy
Poppy: I hope for your sake that Abed is nothing like Brad
Poppy: Because Brad's a bit of a dick.
Frankie had to laugh at that. She liked Poppy's bluntness, she admired it. She'd spent so much of her life trying to keep the peace but Poppy never failed to say what was on her mind.
Frankie: Well, Abed can be less than considerate of other people but I wouldn't call him a dick
Poppy: Then he's probably not like Brad. Brad knows he's a manipulative asshole and he takes pride in it.
Frankie: Why do you work with him?
Poppy: He's the head of monetization and damn good at it.
Frankie: That makes sense
Frankie: Jeff could be an asshole sometimes but he kept keep Greendale afloat.
Frankie: Tell me about the others.
Poppy: I already described David, kinda desperate, kinda naive, easy to take advantage of. He's technically my boss and I have no idea why, except that he does clearly love MQ.
Frankie: So, exactly like Craig, cool. What's Ian like? Is he as legendary in person?
Poppy: If by legendary you mean a bit of a dickhead, yeah. But he has his moments. As infuriating as he can be, he's probably my best friend
Poppy: Ew typing that felt weird
Poppy: Weirder than an Ian sex dream
Frankie: I'm not even going to ask
Poppy: It's exactly what it sounds like, I'm afraid
Frankie: Is there anyone else I should know about? Do any women other than you work at MQ?
Poppy: Not really. I mean, there's Dana and Rachel, and Carol and the other Carol (I can't remember her name) and Jo. Dana and Rachel are gay and Jo is a bitch, and now you're pretty much caught up to speed.
Frankie: Wow and I thought Greendale's diversity hiring was abysmal
Poppy: Ian says we don't hire based on diversity we hire based on skill. Skill just happens to meet a very low woman-to-man ratio.
Frankie: Typical
Poppy: Here's to women in business. Tomorrow they'll be more of us
Frankie: Did you just quote Hamilton at me?
Poppy: mayve
Poppy: *mayb
Poppy: **maybe
Frankie: XD
Frankie: Oh, I've got to go, Abed, Troy, and I are about to watch a movie together over the internet, talk to you later.
Poppy was glad to hear that Frankie had been reaching out more to other people, but when her pen pal stopped typing she couldn't help feeling remarkably alone.
