Vampires. Gil and Malcolm were working with effing vampires? That was just absolutely perfect. Malcolm was definitely going to end up getting bit. Maybe even Gil getting bit during this. Raphael had that strange feeling in his gut. One that told him when things were going to go wrong.
And right now it felt like someone was squeezing his stomach. Like it were nothing more than a stress relief ball.
Each time that he brought it up with Malcolm, he brushed him off. Telling him that everything was going to be fine. That he wasn't going to get hurt. And that neither would Gil. Yet, he still couldn't help himself. There was that feeling things were going to go south real quick. But he wasn't sure why. Just like right now as he stood near the Red Pony. That feeling of discomfort and fear was snaking its way up his spine. Feeling like something was buzzing through his veins as he tried texting Malcolm. Getting no answers as he paced the front of the bar. This wasn't good. Malcolm would answer his texts even if it was five minutes after he sent them. Or ten. Maybe he was hurt, maybe he was being drained...maybe he was being paranoid and Malcolm was right about everything being fine. He took a deep breath as he shoved his phone back into his pant's pocket. Then another one as he muttered,"You're being paranoid. Malcolm and Gil are perfectly fine and they'll text you when they have the chance."
"Just calm the fuck down and stop checking your phone.",he added. Feeling ridiculous about the whole thing as he debated going into the Red Pony. Whether or not he wanted anything from inside it or not. And having to see the handsome owner that he couldn't really talk to. Not without coming across as either awkward or creepy. Then deciding against it as he walked away from the building. It wasn't a wise decision, he knew that. Walking away from somewhere in a town he'd never been. But, he couldn't go back inside to see that guy. Or be around people that much. As he kept getting uncomfortable vibes around the place. Despite how friendly the place seemed, he got a strange feeling in his gut. One that just kept eating at him and made his worry about Malcolm and Gil worse. Feeling that some distance would help ease that growing discomfort.
A few minutes later, he was far away from the bar. Yet, the feeling of discomfort hadn't disappeared. In fact it somehow intensified as he walked. The feeling went from his gut to his heart then straight to his head. Slowly starting to make it pound as he tried to ignore it. Taking more steps to just keep walking. As Raphael didn't know what would happen if he stopped moving. Fearing that the pain would keep him there and...and...and he didn't know what else. All he knew is that he could keep moving. Not that long later, Raphael found himself unwilling to take a step. To move even the slightest. It was like his feet were glued to the spot.
Unsure of why he wasn't able to move. Then he heard something to his right. Sounds of twigs snapping, breathing strangely, and a strange smell. One that disturbingly smelled vaguely like a wet dog. Or maybe worse than that. It made his stomach lurch as he tried to find the source of the smell. A moment later, something flashed in front of his eyes. His vision went bright white before a creature's face flashed before his eyes. So fast that he could barely see the thing. All the creature was, was the outline of a strange dog. In a low voice, he stated,"The Hell...I need to get up and move."
"I need to get up and run to the Red Pony.",he continued. Anything to not meet the source of the scent. Not see what the whatever the Hell it is, is. He knew that he should. Knew that he had to get up and just bolt as fast as he could. Though for some strange reason, his body refused to move. His limbs felt so heavy. Like they weighed more than they actually did. His heart started pounding in his chest as the noises got closer. Another image of a strange dog flashing before his eyes. Becoming much clearer than the last image he'd seen. Making him realize that it definitely wasn't a dog. And that whatever the Hell it was, it wasn't friendly in the slightest bit. Yet, Raphael couldn't make himself move one way or another. His whole body was still frozen as he watched the creature's head poke out from between trees. It looked like it was grinning as its yellow eyes locked on him. Causing a shiver to go down his spine as the creature came towards him. Teeth gleaming in the little light there was. Drool dribbling from it's open maw.
He still wouldn't move.
Nor could he make himself scream as the creature moved towards him. Eyes looking deeply into Raphael's. His whole body felt numb as he stood there. Unwillingly unable to move as he heard something shouting to him. Telling him to run. That he had to get moving. Yet, he still couldn't snap himself out of his paralysis. It wasn't long before the creature was a foot from him. The creature, the thing, wasn't anything he'd seen before. Furry, clawed, and fanged. Still, he couldn't will himself to move one direction or the other. Yet the yelling didn't cease either. Urging him to move otherwise he would be dead. Raphael's mouth wouldn't move as the creature was right in front of him. Leaning over him, it sniffed him as he stood there. Unable to scream, move, or anything. Instead he just barely breathed as he stood in front of the giant creature. Who sniffed him briefly as its nose pressed against his skin. For a few minutes at least, then it sighed. Hot, wet, breath blowing into his face. Nearly making him gag as it whined sharply. Looking suddenly fearful before backing away from him. A few softer whines coming from the creature before it bolted away. Causing Raphael to drop to his knees as he let go of the breath he'd been holding. Hands flying over his heart as he watched the strange creature run. Almost as if it were afraid of him.
A moment later, someone was hauling Raphael to his feet. Whomever it was checked him over as they asked,"Are you alright? Sir? Are you alright?"
Turning to the person, Raphael saw it was the bartender. He looked so fearful as he checked over the younger man. In a low voice, he answered,"I don't know...I think I am, I just..."
"I don't know what that was about.",he added quietly. Looking where the creature had retreated from. Unsure of who they were or why they were there. Or just what stopped them from mauling him alive. But was grateful for that, whatever it was.
