Chapter 3
A Night to Remember
Back at the present, Unikitty and her friends were in Dr. Fox's lab, trying to figure out how to bring Kittycorn and Shy back from the past. Dr. Fox used her time machine to search through different periods of time, but had no luck so far.
"Have you managed to find them, Dr. Fox?" asked Richard.
"Not yet, Richard." Dr. Fox sighed. "They could be anywhere, but I won't rest until Kittycorn and Shy are safe back home!"
As Dr. Fox continued her search, Unikitty and Puppycorn started to get worried about Kittycorn and Shy. There was no telling where they were or even if they are safe.
"Sis, do you think Kittycorn and Shy are going to be okay?" Puppycorn asked, worried.
Unikitty gave a reassuring nod. "Don't worry, Puppycorn! Kittycorn is brave and as long as she and Shy are together, they can get though anything!"
A beeping noise soon echoed through the lab before Dr. Fox brought her attention to a nearby monitor. She took one look at the monitor before her eyes widened in excitement.
"Guys! I think I've found them!" Dr. Fox exclaimed, much to the relief of her friends. "Thankfully, they don't seem to be anywhere dangerous! They are currently in the castle on the night of the royal ball that occurred 15 years ago."
"The royal ball? Man, that takes me back!" Hawkodile smiled as he reminisced on that night. "I got to go on a dance with Dr. Fox and I assumed Shy was a doom lord who was going to sabotage the ball."
"Huh?" Dr. Fox gave Hawkodile a confused look. "What are you talking about? Shy wasn't even born during that time."
"Oh, sorry. I don't know where that came from." Hawkodile rubbed his head. "I must be having a long day."
"Come to think of it, I seem to remember Kittycorn and Shy being there that night as well." Richard spoke up. "What's going on?"
At first, Dr. Fox was confused with what has going on, but she took one look at the monitor and realized something.
"I think I know what is going on. It seems that Kittycorn and Shy have interacted with our past selves and it ended up creating new memories for us." Dr. Fox explained. "Not to worry! I just need to create a portal that would bring those two back home!"
Wasting no time, Dr. Fox got back to work as she focused on creating a portal back to the present.
Back at Unikitty's castle in the past, Kittycorn and Shy got ready for the dance as they put on their dresses. Shy stood in the hallway in her dark-blue dress with her hair no longer concealed by her hood. Shy felt nervous as she anxiously waited for Kittycorn. She had never gone to a dance before and wanted to make this a good night for Kittycorn.
It was at that moment, when Shy took notice of Kittycorn walking down the hall in her pink dress. This left Shy stunned by how beautiful Kittycorn looked. Kittycorn felt the same way about Shy, so she opened her mouth to speak.
"Wow! You look beautiful tonight, Shy!" Kittycorn complimented.
"Thanks, Kittycorn!" Shy blushed from the compliment. "You look beautiful too! So, are you ready for the dance tonight!"
Kittycorn gave an excited nod. "I sure am! This is going to be so much fun!"
"Even so, I'm still worried that the doom lords might be around somewhere. We'd better be careful." Shy warned.
"Don't worry! If they are here then we will find a way to stop them!" Kittycorn assured. "Anyway, let's go to the ballroom. I'm sure that the dance is going to start soon!"
With that, Kittycorn held Shy's hand before walking to the ballroom with her. It wasn't long before Kittycorn and Shy took notice of Hawkodile and Dr. Fox. Shy still felt intimidated of Hawkodile since the last time she saw him.
"Uh, hi, Hawkodile!" Shy greeted awkwardly.
"Oh, it's you." Hawkodile noticed Shy. "Listen, Shy, was it? I want to apologize for being suspicious of you earlier. This night is just really important to the kingdom and I want to make sure it goes well."
Surprised by the unexpected turn of events, Shy decided to accept Hawkodile's apology.
"It's okay, Hawkodile! I know that you are only trying to protect everyone in the kingdom. And who are you?" Shy asked, pretending to meet Dr. Fox for the first time.
"I am the royal scientist, Dr. Fox." she introduced. "It's nice to meet you!"
"It's nice to meet you too, Dr. Fox!" Kittycorn spoke up. "My name is Kittycorn, and I see that you have already met Shy! The royal ball tonight is so exciting, isn't it?"
Dr. Fox nodded in agreement. "It is! Although, there have been rumors of doom lords sneaking around here. Luckily, I came prepared." Dr. Fox then revealed that she was carrying a blaster in her paw. "If any of the doom lords cause trouble, all I have to do is blast them away with my blaster."
Startled by the blaster, Kittycorn and Shy took a few steps back.
"You are actually bringing a blaster that you invented to the royal ball?" Shy asked, feeling weirded out by this unexpected turn of events.
"Of course! Better safe than sorry!"
At that moment Kittycorn decided it was time to go, so she grabbed Shy's hand and said, "Okay. Well, it was nice meeting you two, but Shy and I had better hurry to the dance before we are late."
Right as Kittycorn and Shy entered the ballroom, they were surprised by how many of the citizens came to attend the dance. The light of the ballroom shined the brightest in the castle, thanks to one of Dr. Fox's inventions that was hanging from the ceiling. The ballroom was also surrounded by columns, each of them having a different colored ribbon wrapped around them. After admiring the ballroom, Kittycorn and Shy took notice of Unikitty, who stood in front of the crowd, ready to make her announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Thank you all for joining us on this most wonderful of nights! I'm so happy to have you here for this event! With that being said, let the Unikingdom royal ball begin!"
After Unikitty finished her announcement, music began to play and everyone in the kingdom chose a partner to dance with. Kittycorn and Shy looked around in amazement as they couldn't believe that they were attending the royal ball from 15 years ago. Little did they know that the doom lords were enacting their plan at this very moment.
The doom lords stood on a nearby balcony as they looked down on the unsuspecting citizens.
"Ah! Those happy citizens are unaware of what we have in store for them! We'll cut the chain off that chandelier and once it comes crashing down, we'll make a presence known and take the castle by force!"
"That's a great idea, Master Doom! But I don't think it is a chandelier. I think the science fox called it her Light-o-Tron 9000!" Master Papercuts pointed out.
With an annoyed look, Master Doom yelled, "I don't care! Just get to work and cut it down!"
Before Master Papercuts could react, Master Doom threw him over to the chandelier where he grabbed the chain. He soon took out a piece of paper with a sharp end and began to cut away at the chain.
Meanwhile, Kittycorn and Shy were walking around the ballroom as they interacted with everyone in the room. Throughout the dance, they noticed that Hawkodile was dancing with Dr. Fox while Richard was dancing with his girlfriend, who's name they forgot. After interacting with everyone at the ball, Kittycorn and Shy were soon greeted by Unikitty.
"Hi, Kittycorn! Hi, Shy! Are you two enjoying the royal ball?"
"We are, Unikitty! Thank you!" Shy smiled.
Kittycorn soon brought her attention towards Puppycorn, who looked bored as he was standing in a corner out of sight from everyone else.
"Hey, Unikitty! It seems that Puppycorn is getting bored." Kittycorn pointed out.
Unikitty took one look at her brother and started to feel sorry for him. "Oh no! It doesn't look like Puppycorn is having any fun! I'll go over to him and cheer him up!"
Once Unikitty flew over to Puppycorn to make him feel better, Kittycorn and Shy decided to spend the rest of the dance together.
"This is incredible, isn't it, Shy! I can't believe that we are having our first dance together!" Kittycorn exclaimed.
"Yes, I think I am having a fun time tonight. Um." With a nervous smile, Shy looked away from Kittycorn as she held out her hand. "May I have this dance?"
Kittycorn giggled. "I'd be honored!"
At that moment, Kittycorn and Shy wrapped their arms around each other as they began to waltz with each other. Despite the fact that they had never danced before, Kittycorn and Shy have been dancing surprisingly well together. Shy would soon notice that they weren't the only ones who were waltzing together as she noticed something from the corner of her eye.
"Kittycorn, you might want to look at this." Shy brought Kittycorn's attention over to Unikitty and Puppycorn.
One look at Unikitty and Puppycorn caused Kittycorn to let out a delighted gasp. When she first met Unikitty and Puppycorn, she always felt that they were perfect together. Now, she was finally able to see the moment that they fell in love.
"Oh my gosh, Shy! I can't believe what we're seeing! This is so romantic!"
"Yes, it is! I suppose it has been a romantic night for us as well." Shy blushed.
Kittycorn blushed as well before she and Shy got close to one another as they kissed each other on the lips. They stared lovingly into each others eyes before Shy took notice of something above. She was shocked to see Master Papercuts on the chandelier as he was cutting at the chain holding it.
"Kittycorn, one of the doom lords is right above us!"
After noticing Master Papercuts, Kittycorn's eyes widened in horror as she finally realized what the doom lords were planning.
"Oh no! We'd better warn everybody about this before someone gets hurt." Kittycorn said.
"I don't think so!" came a sinister voice from behind her.
The two friends turned around and her shocked to find Master Malice, Master Plaque, and Master Misery standing behind them.
"We knew that you two would try to stop us, so Master Doom sent us to make sure you wouldn't interfere." Master Malice gave a sinister grin.
"Once we get rid of you two, nothing will stop the doom lords from taking over!" Master Plague explained.
Master Misery stepped forward to capture them. "Any last words?"
Kittycorn and Shy glanced at one another before they shared a nod with each other as they silently came up with a plan.
"Well, if I were to say one thing, I guess it would be, Shy, run!" Kittycorn yelled.
Before the doom lords could react, Kittycorn and Shy rushed passed them as they began to run away. The doom lords gave chase, but this ended up catching the attention of Hawkodile and Dr. Fox, who were dancing nearby.
"Wait, was that Kittycorn and Shy? I think they are being chased by the doom lords." Dr. Fox noticed.
Upon noticing the doom lords, Hawkodile glared behind his shades. "I knew that the doom lords were up to no good!" He looked up to see that Master Papercuts was close to cutting the chandelier's chain and knew that he had to stop him.
"Hawkodile, you deal with Master Papercuts, while I save Kittycorn and Shy!" Dr. Fox said as she grabbed her blaster.
The doom lords chased Kittycorn and Shy through the castle's hallway as the two friends ran as fast as they could. They eventually came across a dead end as the doom lords cornered them.
"It's the end of the line for you two!" Master Malice smirked.
Before the doom lords could do anything, they suddenly yelled in pain when they got hit by a laser beam from behind. They turned to see Dr. Fox with her blaster.
"Get away from my friends!" Dr. Fox demanded as she got ready to fire again.
"I don't think we would be able to stand a chance against her blaster." Master Plague observed.
"Quick, let's get back to Master Doom!" said Master Misery.
Once the doom lords made their retreat, Dr. Fox rushed over to check on her friends.
"Are you two, okay?" asked Dr. Fox.
"We are!" Shy let out a relieved sigh. "Thank you, Dr. Fox! You really saved us!"
"Aw, don't mention it! I knew that I was going to need this blaster at some point!"
Meanwhile, Master Papercuts was cutting away at the chandelier before he felt something heavy land on the chandelier. He looked up and was shocked to see Hawkodile pounding his fists together.
"Nobody is going to sabotage the royal ball on my watch!"
Master Papercuts tried to get away, but Hawkodile punched him so hard it sent him flying towards the nearby balcony where he crashed into the rest of the doom lords. Master Doom got back up before grabbing Master Papercuts in anger.
"What happened?" Master Doom demanded. "You were supposed to send the chandelier crashing down!"
"Uh, that bird man punches really hard." Master Papercuts spoke in a daze before falling unconscious.
Just when Master Doom thought things couldn't get any worse, the rest of the doom lords showed up, each of them singed from Dr. Fox's laser blasts.
"Bad news, Master Doom! We got chased away by that science fox and her blaster!" Master Malice spoke up.
"What?" Master Doom yelled in anger. "Can't you idiots do anything right?"
Kittycorn and Shy soon made their way up to the balcony as they cornered the doom lords.
"It's over, Master Doom! We are not going to let you change the timeline!" Kittycorn yelled.
Despite the fact that nothing was going according to plan, Master Doom didn't appear to be the least bit intimidated. She was not going to give up so easily.
"Do you really think that you have won? This was merely a setback! Doom lords, it is time to retreat!"
As Master Doom said that, she and the doom lords ran passed Kittycorn and Shy. Not wanting the doom lords to cause anymore trouble, Kittycorn and Shy chased them through the castle. They knew that this would be their last chance to stop the doom lords because if the doom lords manage to escape then the future would be doomed.
