A/N:
I always warn you about typos and grammar errors, right? Not that I can't check all the wrong spellings there and correct them, or that I can't correct the grammar errors too, Microsoft is the use of that. It's just everything is too hectic and I'm a grammar-nazi at most. and I really want to correct them, and then I won't have time to post anything if I do that, so I rather give it to you raw than make you wait. I don't like waiting that long for updates, cause it will cause me to forget the plot, and I think it applies to you at some point, so... Yeah.
rozielrie: Reborn will never be 'Reborn' without him thriving in chaos, especially those he made himself. HAHAHA!
rama-miss: I utterly and completely understand your anger and I don't mind you ranting. You could PM me if you want to rant over something not related to any stories. I won't really mind at all. And Tsuna's guardians won't be the same anymore, I'm sorry. However, maybe I could do something in the future. Right after I restart writing when the manga is done or they get into the next arc if it's not finishing up yet (cause the Midoriya Patriarch is still unknown and we need to know if he's a hero, a villain or a civilian with no quirk, and why did Izuku didn't get any quirk, unless the theory that his quirk got stolen was true). So no worries.
Thank you for the reviews. And thank you to MollyPollyRolly too. Can't reply to you directly since ff doesn't have that option.
Anyway, go on.
Chapter Seventy
(Day Twenty-Three: New World)
Shouta followed the Todoroki family (except for Shouto and Endeavor) as they went out. Fuyumi, Natsuo with their mother Rei gave a bow of gratitude for accommodating them in their sudden visit to Tsuna. He bowed back and wished them safe travel on their way back. He watched them go, being escorted by one of the Endeavor agency's heroes. When he was sure they have entered the elevator, Shouta went inside again and closed the door behind him.
In a span of twenty-three days, a lot have visited to see Tsuna's health. From civilians who knows him personally to heroes who acknowledge and respect the brunet's abilities. Endeavor and Hawks even visited. He could understand the former since Tsuna is an intern to his agency, but he almost questioned Hawks's relation with his son. But when Reborn blinked at him innocently, he backed out. Tsuna's charm works in all ways. There was also Agent Rigorous with his employees Dark Haven, Starlight and Deva, they were from the agency Tsuna interned in Kanagawa. The Pussycats did too, and the previous agency the teen interned during Eri's case.
Hizashi actually cried when he broke the news to him after arriving to UA, a day after Tsuna got admitted. Nemuri teared up a little too, before deciding to visit the brunet. Nezu visited too, in behalf of the UA teachers. The students of Class B Tsuna grouped with during Hitoshi's visit came, while his class had to split in two, both led by their President and Vice-president, and visited at different times to avoid crowding. Naomasa comes as much as he could after he heard what happened. Even Gran Torino, All Might and Nighteye. Nighteye and Reborn talked for minutes before the man came into some sort of understanding. Maybe Tsuna and Reborn briefed him of what he saw in Tsuna's future? Perhaps. At least the situation is cool.
He sighed at the sight of flowers and small baskets of fruits. There's even a teddy bear. All were gifts from the vistors, except for the regular ones. Reborn, who is checking some math problems answered by his class, looked up, followed his gaze before snickering. How helpful. Well, generally, Reborn is helpful. Just not this one.
"You'll pass it on sometime." The hitman assured as he continued to check. "Tsuna receives tons of that during his mafia boss time."
"How does he handles all this?"
"Give the teddy bears to the orphanage then the flowers will be put on the grave of those people we know who died in missions. The food will stay since it's food. It will be eaten one way or another."
Shouta took his seat beside Tsuna and brushed away the stray hair to see his son's face. "Was he... Loved there?"
"Mostly. Dons and Donnas give him things with how he charms them. But after five years of socializing, Tsuna declared war against mafia."
"The war lasted for three years." He said, remembering how Tsuna answered everything he asked. Those light twitches on certain words, the slight quirk of lips, the flickering of his eyes to looks anywhere else than him. Tsuna felt ashamed of what he had done. "Unwashed for years."
"I wanted to say it's a boss' job to carry the burden. But I know I'll be a hypocrite if I said that." Papers shuffled as the hitman did his work. "Tsuna, regardless of how I tell him to not think of what he had done, he can't. We tried repressing it and slowly give him the memories to make him accept that it was necessary, he won't."
"Saint... Huh." He murmured, admiring how peaceful Tsuna looked in his sleep. "I wonder what is he doing now."
"Probably thinking what things he could do with all of his free time. Who knows. Maybe he'll go skydiving."
"Your son...?"
"Aeturnus? It's fine. He'll take care of Tsuna, now that he's visiting. The kid had been deprived of Tsuna's care for twelve years. They're the closest as far as I know. Tsuna knows all the things about him. So they'll probably have fun for a little while."
"Fun, huh?"
"You rather want that instead of a worrywart impulsive Tsuna."
He nodded. "Yeah. A worried Tsuna is an impulsive Tsuna."
"Good. We're on the same page."
He chuckled before standing up to move on his previous seat. He also has some papers to grade and some grades to calculate. The end of the term is already finishing. Tsuna's batch will move up and face another. The teachers have gave their words that they'll let Tsuna take their tests once he's fine enough and awake.
The room went quiet as the two of them did their works. Scratches on the paper, rustles of the bundles and some mutters here and there were heard occassionally. After three hours, which the clock read past eleven, Shouta dropped the paper he has in hand before capping the pen. He stretched and looked up to his son who didn't move as usual. He sighed as he leaned back to his seat. He misses the smiles already.
He jerked in attention when a knock was heard and the door opened. He turned around to see a nurse followed by a familiar blond with a scowl. It was Bakugou.
"Oh. The IV had emptied. Good thing I have one with me." The nurse, who named herself as Saeka, relieved while putting her chart down by the foot of the bed. "Have you two eaten anything yet?"
He looked at Reborn who shrugged. "Not yet."
"Eh. That can't be right. Tsuna-kun won't like it if both of you get sick while watching over him." Saeka tutted while removing the trocar carefully of the empty bag. "Should I ring up the canteen to wheel you three some food?"
"We don't want to bother." He immediately denied.
The nurse waved her hand off before taking the new bag. "It's fine. The cook there was saved by this kid when his apartment got attacked by a villain. He was one of the hostage actually. So when he heard that Tsuna-kun is here, he asked us to ring him if the family here need food or any beverage."
Black eyes blinked before turning to his son. Wow. Tsuna is so amazing.
"There." Saeka smiled after putting the bag on its hook. "I'll alert the canteen. If he does a single twitch, please alert us."
He nodded, glancing at Bakugou who had been quiet at the side. They waited for Saeka to finish her SOP. Once she was out, Shouta regarded the teen who only looked down to his shoes. "Who are you with, Bakugou?"
"I went out." The blond answered, shrugging a shoulder. "I wanted to see Tsuna."
"Alone." The kid nodded. He sighed as he reached out for the bridge of his nose to pinch. "You know how bad that is, don't you?"
"Yeah. I'll carry on the punishment if there is any. I just wanted to see Tsuna." The blond nodded solemnly, unusually quite docile. Red eyes shifted to Reborn. "And I wanted to ask some things."
The hitman capped his pen and arranged his papers before giving his full attention to Bakugou. "What is it then?"
"Tsuna doesn't have any elements right now, right?" The blond asked, making Shouta curious.
"No. None. And since you're asking, I think you already have a guess where we came from." Reborn remarked.
"Deku was mumbling and crossed out some impossible things." The teen nodded to Tsuna's way. "But nothing is impossible to Tsuna if he can do it. I also heard things when we went to Italy. Something like Tsuna brought the Arcobaleno back to their old bodies, going to purge the mafia like in his old world. To conclude everything, you are from a different world."
Silence.
"Yes." Reborn responded. "We are from a different world."
Red eyes turned to him. "And in the summer, Tsuna told you."
He nodded. "One of the things I wasn't expecting to know."
"Your original Tsunayoshi died at the age of three, three months before his birthday. Tsuna died the same time yours died. Let's just say, Tsuna's soul was put inside a child's body and woke up with 'should have been' a fatal wound on his head and got a hint on where he is and what happened to him." The hitman elaborated.
"How old was he?"
Shouta kept himself from grimacing. He doesn't want Bakugou to know without Tsuna saying it himself, but it can't be helped. "He was forty-four when he died, right now, he's mentally fifty-six."
The teen's expression went from shock to an amused winced. "He is older than everyone."
They turned to the door when they heard a knock. Shouta stood up as his student walked a little away. When he opened the door, a staff greeted them with a friendly polite smile and handed out a bag of bottled waters, a plate of covered taiyaki and another tray of side dishes. Bakugou helped him carry the goods to the table that Reborn was using just a minute ago. The staff gave him three bowls of covered rice before bidding them a 'good night'.
Bakugou didn't want to join them, but they insisted. All three of them started to eat, occasionally glancing at Tsuna who is still asleep. The dinner was technically a quiet affair. One of the things that reminds of Shouta of how lonely their days have become without Tsuna's sunny presence.
"I advice you not to treat him differently now that you know the truth." Reborn hummed while arranging the dishes he had used. "We all know how much he hates it when people treats him differently."
"I know." Bakugou growled. "He cried to me about it."
That made Shouta wince a little. That was his fault.
"How do I become Tsuna's main rain element?" They stared at the teen who raised them a brow. "What?"
"Do you know what you're getting yourself into?" Reborn worded carefully. "Being Tsuna's main element, technically a guardian, has a lot of responsibility. You will be his left hand man. All of his troubles will be dump on you. You have to be his rain that washes away the worries of the sky, cover him when he's not okay, and protect him at all cost. Being a hero can give you more liberty to move, but being Tsuna's rain guardian, you'll be on constant danger under his impulsiveness and worry."
"I know that more than anyone Tsuna knows. I'm the one who offered him friendship when he stopped doing so. So I know and I want to." Shouta blinked when those red eyes simmered blue with determination. So this is the reason why he's a rain. "Tsuna made me realize how stupid I was before I came to UA. He didn't really save me in any ways, but he was there when I needed him. That's what friends do."
Shouta shot a look to Reborn who smirked. "Alright. Let's clean this first before we do the procedure."
It didn't take a minute for the table to be spotless and their used dishes get stowed away by the staff again. Reborn instructed Bakugou to sit beside Tsuna. But instead of going for his left, the blond went to his son's right, intending to be his right hand man. Shouta realized what Kawahira said. Bakugou is a rain with a storm personality. Storms are usually the right hand men. It is not a surprise to see the blond wanting to become a right hand man of Tsuna. Someone who can make the brunet confide to him.
"Tsuna's flames are low right now, so you won't feel them until he wakes up." Reborn explained. "Tsuna's job is to complete others, on most parts. But right now, the elements are the ones who needed to complete him. They need to coax the sky flames to reach out as the elements' flames reach out too. You get me, Bakugou?"
"Yeah." The teen nodded.
"Since you're partially dormant, I want you to think of your will. Your pride."
"Huh?" The blond blurted, obviously confused with the terms used and how they implied.
"What he means is what you wanted the most." Shouta added. "He wants you to think of your dream. Not the one you're thinking right now, which is to help Tsuna and become his element. It has to be the one you've always wanted to do since you realized it, even before and after you get to know Tsuna. For example, surpassing Midoriya, Tsuna and All Might, and become the number one hero with your volatile personality."
He kept himself from chuckling when he saw the teen give him a deadpan look. "Of course you know that."
Reborn snickered before explaining. "What Tsuna wants in a person is someone who is true to himself. A person who isn't afraid to express himself. He knows his wants, his wills and his resolve. For example, Tsuna's resolve revolves around protecting others and anyone he knows, his pride is his family and his friends. Hurt his pride and his resolve will become his flames. Get me?"
"What is your pride?" The blond questioned to the hitman.
The man flicked his hat up with a wide dangerous smirk. "My pride is being the world greatest hitman and the strongest Arcobaleno, and my resolve is to kill anyone who tries to harm my home, which is Tsuna and Aizawa at this world."
Red eyes turned to him, which made him sigh. "My pride is my family, my students, my colleagues and the weak. My resolve is to do my hero job right and protect those people I have to protect."
Bakugou's eyes flashed blue again before they looked at Tsuna. Slowly, the room's air went still. Something like it's changing and being influenced by a force. Shouta suddenly felt the time going standstill, and there's this certain calm that he always senses when he's seeing Bakugou in the field during trainings. Then he realized it. Why the blond is a calming rain instead of a destructive storm.
If they were in a certain dire situation, Bakugou can calm Tsuna down when the latter suddenly gets an impulsive thought. It's like how Tsuna described it when Bakugou stopped him from killing Federico, and urged him to be creative. For so far, Bakugou had been the brunet's grounding. He makes him stand on his feet, not on toes, and makes sure to always remind the other that he's a vigilante, not someone who kills or order someone to do it. An unlikely friendship formed from respect for each other's capabilities, ideals, mindsets and personality.
Shouta stood straighter when he felt a familiar sense of warmth and acceptance, although a little weak and almost like he was imagining it. He turned to Reborn who looked relieved as Bakugou's mouth curled into a smug smile.
"Hah. Tsuna will be furious once he learns about this." Bakugou cackled.
"You're so lucky he's not awake." Reborn said, eyeing the teen who is preening. "You won't be cackling since you'll be flame drunk."
"Flame drunk?" Shouta questioned.
"It's a kind of state when a user absorbed too much flames. It usually happens after a bonding and harmonization. It's on both ends, except for Tsuna, of course. It's usually the elements who get drunk with how much flames he has in his body." Then he grinned. "I wonder what will happen once Dame-Tsuna wakes up. All of you might collapse probably."
"Why do you call Tsuna a dame?" The blond questioned in an almost irritable tone. Must be disgruntled with the name.
"The same reason why you call Midoriya a deku." The hitman answered, sitting at the foot of the bed, patting Tsuna's leg.
"Tsuna isn't useless." Bakugou argued with a growl.
"He wasn't." Shouta looked at Tsuna as Reborn continued. He knew the story a little from what his son had said during the revelation, but not the whole thing. "Once upon a time, Tsuna's flames were sealed and repressed, causing his growth to go abnormal. Before I became his tutor, he was clumsy, almost illiterate and can't do anything right. At the age of five, he was called useless by his peers, the adults and his own mother."
His eyes widened, as well as Bakugou's.
"From there up until he was thirteen, he was called Dame-Tsuna." Onyx eyes glanced at red ones who froze. "Yes. He was bullied like Izuku Midoriya, without any friends, no familial support, no defenders, no comfort. Funny thing though, he rather forgives them than makes them suffer. He rather suffers than sees them in pain." Both of them watched as those eyes grew darker. "When he was going insane after the war he declared to mafia ended after three years, he confessed to me while laughing like a madman. Other than he was the unknowing instigator of his former rain's suicide attempt at the age of thirteen, he had tried killing himself when he was nine, ten, eleven and twelve."
Shouta's heart sunk and broke at the same time. At such young age...
"At the age of nine, he curiously tried cutting his wrist after he found a rusty razor in their bathroom. If Nana didn't knock on the bathroom door when he was about to do it, he could've died from blood loss and tetanus. At the age of ten, he considered drinking poison after realizing that drinking chlorine can burn and kill a person, striking his chest with a knife when he stumbled on his mom sharpening one, and jump in a busy street while waiting for the stoplight to go red."
"Stop-"
"At the age of eleven, he thought of purchasing a bottle of sleeping pills when he picked up a prescription of the said medicine. He did, by the way and hid it away when he doesn't feel the necessity to overdose. And at the age of twelve, he stood at the tallest building in their town, looked down to the people below and thought of what will happen if he splatted at the pavement, all bloody and gore."
Shouta raised his hand to cover his watery eyes. God. His sweet cheery Tsuna... He can't imagine the brunet thinking of those.
"The only things that made him stop from doing those is the thought of his mother alone in their house, with no solace as a comfort, no son to call for dinner, and people judging her for not taking care of her son. The thought of his classmates and bullies getting punished and shunned away by the society as people blame them for pushing him to do a suicide. He has the biggest heart that I just want to lock it away so it won't get hurt anymore."
"H-He..."
"You really thought he had it easy, didn't you?" The hitman hummed, patting Tsuna's ankle. He looks relaxed again, and more relieved than before. "That's just one of the things Tsuna endured to be someone as he is now."
(When they went to sleep after a few minutes of silence, Bakugou got the couch as Reborn took Tsuna's other side while Shouta laid on the opposite.)
(Shouta hugged Tsuna close that night, burying his face to the soft locks.)
(At the stroke of three o'clock, just when the hero whimpered in his sleep, the still limbs moved on their own and hugged the distressed individual. The teen, supposedly in coma, buried himself to the hero's chest.)
(Reborn felt the movement. Remembering that time they healed Nighteye, he moved too and hugged his son from the back. Tsuna's hand held his arm close.)
(Bakugou stared at them with Recovery Girl the next morning, muttering to himself how fucked up the world is.)
(Thanks God it's Sunday.)
(Day Twenty-Four: Old World)
The Vongola museum is located at the very center of the Vongola castle. It's pretty big, taking up four rooms with five halls. Although it is the center, it's not accessible to anyone. Even people living in the castle have a hard time finding the room. Those who are lucky to remember the route towards it, or even happened to stumble on it out of mere chance, can see the paintings of each don and their family that had led the Vongola for the past four hundred years. One don, one family.
The brunet stared at his portrait. He remembered how it was taken. He was twenty-six when they took it. Well, it should've been painted, but they're cheats. They made Shoichi take a picture of him, print it in a canvas, framed it then they hanged it. Honestly, he had fun taking the picture. Reborn wanted him to be proper, like sit in a throne chair and pose. But he argued that Xanxus took that look years ago. Then Hayato suggested that he do a regal pose. He rolled his eyes at that and made a wacky pose, causing him to get a 'whack' on the head from Mukuro. Kyouya tried insisting he goes for an all fours, which Chrome said 'no' in a deadpan. Takeshi and Lambo suggested he goes for something he's comfortable. Ryohei must have noticed his clueless expression because he made him a mannequin and manhandled him into something the sun thinks he's comfortable. It took a while to decipher before he did it.
So in the portrait, while wearing his black suit, he just stood in the middle with both of his hands on his pockets, one ankle crossing the other which made him put all his weight on one leg, and his head tilted to one side. He remembered relaxing by watching his friends banter at the front. Everyone was talking and he can't help laughing. He thinks the camera's shutter lit up when he perked up to Shoichi's call with an easy smile. All of them blinked in surprise while the technician only smiled, waved the camera in the air with a 'nice pic, Tsuna' before going out. Before they knew it, it was already hanged in the museum.
"That time was really fun, wasn't it?" A familiar-not-so-familiar voice commented.
"The fact that it was the stage of my life where I was slowly recovering from everything I've done, I consider it as one of the memorable moment I will always remember." He answered.
"Always the loving sky, regardless of any world."
He chuckled before gazing at Kawahira at the corner of his eyes. "I don't even know what to call it anymore."
The Ancient one quirked a smile.
He's free to roam around now since Aeturnus was called for a hit. He had to persuade the kid to go because it's money and he needs to do it for his growing reputation (if he knows, Aeturnus already surpassed Reborn's name when the latter was at his son's age. Although Reborn's legend is the long lasting one because he died at an old age, and was still famous even when he was tutoring Tsuna at the age of hundred and thirty). He figured it was a good thing because five days ago, they went to a picnic with Uteki (Takeshi's only son), Aella (Hayato's third daughter) and Xirene (Xanxus's second daughter). Then three days ago, they went to the mall with Fujiru (Lambo's second eldest son), Aki (Ryohei's youngest son), Myst (Mukuro's second son) and Kousuke (Ryohei's eldest son). The days in between are spent between the two of them alone, roaming around or reading or doing mundane things.
(If cleaning half of the library books is mundane.)
(It was out of boredom.)
Aeturnus whined when he joked of giving the young hitman a breather from being caged with him. It can't be helped that Tsuna wants to, at least, let Aeturnus think that he's not going to stay any longer. That one way or another, he'll be going away again without any trace. That he won't exist anymore since it's his last visit to them.
Especially when a bond was formed just when the day was about to change.
"What do you feel?" Kawahira questioned, standing beside him.
"I'm fine." He answered. He roamed his eyes to the picture's setting as the man waited for him to continue. "They're already calling out for me to come back."
"I see."
He glanced to Kawahira. "Did Byakuran say anything on how did they persuade him to bond with me?"
"I don't think he was persuaded, Tsunayoshi. An element will want to a form a bond with you if he wishes to. Like how Kyouya Hibari did without directly asking you."
He sighed, remember how that 'bond' slid so effortlessly. Like that one he felt. "Well, Reborn will choose to have me pull those people I know to do my troubles with me, instead of tag someone clueless again."
The old man breathed out, as if relieved. "I'm glad you have your tutor with you now, Tsunayoshi."
"The mafia won't be complete without the other." He commented, earning an amused chuckle.
They basked in silence.
"This painting is our sanctuary." Kawahira said as if commenting about the weather and he's not the person in the picture.
"How so?" He can't help asking.
"Because the person in there is the one who nurtured our big family. As what the children have said, the smile quirked in Decimo's lips gives them a sense of attention, as if they are really talking to the person there. Regardless of the lack of sky flames, the mere presence of this painting here soothes the minds of those troubled souls. Even those who live far away comes home to feel security again."
Tsuna slowly nodded, realizing what its significance now. "Then I'm glad I can still give comfort to my family."
"You are never dead to us, Tsunayoshi-kun. As long as one remembers you, you will never throughly die."
He quirked an amused smile. "You're making me a ghost there."
"A happy ghost." The man worded, causing them to snicker as the door opened.
"Tsuna!" He looked to the side to see Aeturnus who is walking towards them. Grey eyes went to his companion before nodding. "Kawahira."
"Immortal." The Ancient acknowledged back.
"How was your job?" Tsuna asked, smiling indulgently and patient.
The hitman smirked. "Bull's eye."
He grinned. "Nice."
"I saw Xorren. Since you wanted to do some paintball shooting, why not kidnap him and go for the range?" The other suggested, before gazing at Kawahira. "You can join, Kawahira."
"I rather watch." The white-head replied with a pleasant smile.
Tsuna clapped his hands, gut bubbling in excitement. "Let's go then."
As the two walked beside him to exit the room, they passed by one of the biggest paintings in the room. The painting is a family picture with the Vongola family in the middle surrounded by the Varia, the Arcobaleno (except for Reborn who is behind Tsuna), Chiavallone's Don, Millefiore's boss and technicians, Giglio Nero's Donna, the Simon, the Vindice, and the remaining Ancient. All under the encompassing reach of the Sky.
