Chapter 1: For Truth, Justice, and the Fiore Way
This idea's been bubbling around in my head for a while now and I just had to try it after reading "Speeding Through Life". I highly recommend reading it, even though it's unfinished and probably never will be.
I'll be borrowing a little from that story, but the majority of this is my own creation. Except for anything originally from DC Comics or Fairy Tail. I don't own those, though I do own my OC, so that's something.
I'm primarily pulling from the Justice League Animated series, though with some continuity changes and inspiration from other DC sources as well.
Hope you all enjoy the first chapter!
XXX
It was a typical night in the city of Metropolis, the sun having set hours ago, but the streets were still kept lit by an army of evenly placed lamp fixtures. Most people had returned to their cozy apartments or suburban houses while others stayed out to enjoy the city's night life.
Things weren't much different here than any other big city. Fancy restaurants with high end bars on every corner, parks filled with people on late night walks with their sweetheart, and a new summer blockbuster filling theaters.
BOOM!
That was another common feature of life in Metropolis that its residents had long since grown accustomed to. It wasn't a normal week if some kind of crazy earth threatening catastrophe didn't take place.
The sound of a high yield explosion rocked the city, shaking it like the world was made of jello. While some of the newer residents ran and visiting patrons tried to find cover, many others did so halfheartedly, still trying to enjoy their evening.
After all, you didn't move to Metropolis if you couldn't handle a little chaos. That's what you get when the world's, potentially universe's, strongest hero also called this city home.
There was one stand out amongst the crowd. As people either ran away or tried to get on with their night, something akin to a shooting star flew by overhead.
Only those with incredible vision or a pair of binoculars could tell that it was actually a person racing towards the source of the explosive shockwaves.
Most would assume this was simply the man of steel, their Superman, charging into the heat of battle, but that was not the case given the boy in blue was already reported to be at ground zero.
No, the person zooming through the sky was someone else entirely. This was Kyle Maize, known to the world as Helios.
He wore a black and silver bodysuit with a familiar "S" embroidered on the chest, a far cry from the more flamboyant costumes most heroes chose, though he did conceal his face behind a small domino mask just like a certain bird themed sidekick.
It was definitely less comfortable than Robin had promised, but the extra anonymity was worth it. Certainly better than wearing a pair of fake glasses on the daily like his mentor suggested.
Those things were itchy.
His black hair fluttered in the winds as he urged his body faster through the air towards what was sure to be an action packed fight.
Reaching for the comm-link in his ear, Kyle checked in with the rest of the team.
"This is Helios coming in hot. What's going on down there?"
"There's a robbery in progress of a Wayne Tech R&D facility," came the always calm voice of J'onn J'onzz, aka, the Martian Manhunter. "Civilians are clear, but there is confirmation of several meta criminals on the scene, including Solomon Grundy, Mr. Shade, Cheetah, and Bizarro."
"So it's definitely the Legion of Doofs then?"
"Most likely," Superman hopped into the conversation before grunting like he was lifting something heavy, even for him. A loud crash could be heard on the other end of the call. "We don't think they got in yet, but these guys aren't pulling any punches today."
"Don't worry Superman. I'm a minute out," Kyle confirmed as he dove lower to just above street level.
"Green Arrow and Hawkgirl are on standby. Prepping the teleporters now," added the Martian. "Just hold them off until back up arrives."
"It already has."
No one felt the need to question how Batman had managed to beat them all to the scene. The Dark Knight just had a way of getting around that even the gods themselves couldn't fathom. If Kyle had to guess, he'd probably known about the attack beforehand.
He did own the facility being raided after all.
"Hey kid," the positive and quick voice of the Flash jumped in. "How did you get there so fast? Isn't Haven City like all the way down the coast? I know you Kryptonians can move pretty quick, but come on."
"I was in the city for a baseball tournament," Kyle explained. "The Haven City Hurricanes are playing the Metropolis Meteors this weekend. And before you say it, yes, I held back my strength to regular human levels."
"Aw man, you beat me to it," Flash whined, making Kyle laugh. The speedster always loved making that joke with him.
In truth, Kyle had been with the rest of his team celebrating their latest victory moments before the Legion of Doom had decided to cut his night out short. Luckily their chaperon was nowhere to be found, more than likely off enjoying a fully paid for trip instead of watching over a group of high school juniors.
It made sneaking off under the guise of a stomach ache much easier.
"Is that the one where the goal is to put the ball into a hoop?"
"That's basketball J'onn. I play baseball. You know, the one where we run bases and hit the ball with a bat."
"My mistake. Many of your earth sports tend to overlap in their playstyle and goals."
Kyle had to stifle another laugh. He wasn't sure if the Martian Manhunter was messing with them at this point and just playing dumb.
"Then why don't you sit this one out. Enjoy yourself and I can be there faster than you can say… pretty much anything."
"Are you kidding?" Kyle said, almost insulted by Flash's offer. "It's been over a week since I helped Kara, GA, GL, and Captain Atom deal with that nuclear monster. I'm due for a little excitement."
"And your baseball game isn't enough? Speaking of which, Kara and I were going to… guh!"
Whatever Superman was going to say was cut off by what sounded like a serious hit. His comm link disconnected as static filled the channel.
"Stop wasting time on your social lives and focus on getting over here now," Batman scolded with little interest or sympathy.
"Right, sorry Bats."
Kyle turned off his communicator and mentally urged himself forward. It was impossible to argue with Batman, mostly because Kyle had long since learned the Dark Knight usually knew best.
Rounding the finally skyscraper, the battlefield came into view. It was an absolute free for all with both heroes surrounded by villains on all sides. Superman was busy trading blows with his bizarre look alike, mirroring him down to the red and blue onesie they both sported.
To make things worse was the humanoid cheetah relentlessly clawing his back. Normally Superman wouldn't even notice someone scratching him, but even Kryptonians didn't have resistance to magical attacks, something that all of Cheetah's strikes were imbued with.
Batman was even more pinned down as the living zombie attempted to flatten him into the pavement, failing each time to keep up with the hero's impressive agility. As Batman flipped over another swing, he was struck by a wave of pure darkness being released by a well-dressed man in all black.
Springing off the air like some kind of launch pad, the young hero dove into action.
"Hey Cheetah, let's see if all cats land on their feet!"
His shout came too late for any normal person to react. Thankfully Superman was not just strong, but fast too and bent over at the last second, allowing Kyle to tackle a surprised Cheetah into the air.
Before the feline villain could react, he grabbed her by the scruff and spun her around into Bizarro, knocking both to the ground.
"Guess not," Kyle mocked.
"Thanks for the assist," the older hero said with a nod before his eye widened. "Batman! We have to…"
They both turned at the sound of a loud thud and looked to where Batman had last been. Currently he was standing over Grundy, who failed to break out of a hardened foam that looked like cotton candy and had completely engulfed him.
Shade was still up and charging forward with his cane raised and ready to strike. As Batman went into his utility belt for something to counter, Kyle took the opportunity and focused a quick burst of his heat vision on the weapon. It split in two like a hot knife through butter.
The darkness themed villain paused, taking a nervous glance at his now broken stick before being sucker punched in the face by Batman.
"Never mind then." Kyle heard Superman mutter as Batman approached them. He sent Kyle a silent look made all the more intimidating by the bat like cowl he wore.
"I know, I know. You didn't need my help," he backtracked immediately. Everyone knew Batman didn't need to be rescued.
"Don't announce yourself. It gives your enemy a chance to react," was all he had to say before passing both Kryptonians and returning focus to the remaining enemies who had finally managed to pick themselves up.
An inhuman growl escaped Cheetah's throat as she crouched down, ready to pounce. Bizaro just pounded his fists together and groaned.
"You're nice. Throw cat lady again and I hug you," he forced out in his typical backwards speech.
"Whatever you say man," Kyle shrugged, not in the mood to decode the statements true meaning. "I'd suggest giving up if I were you, unless you want another beatdown before going back to prison."
"Helios is right. You're outnumbered and outgunned. There's no point in delaying things any further," Batman demanded, showing little sympathy for the two villains.
"This doesn't have to get any worse. Surrender now and we'll consider leniency."
As usual, Superman tried to play the voice of reason. It almost made Kyle shake his head, both because it was so cliché and yet also what made the big blue boy scout so endearing. Cheetah snarled and spat at the offer.
"You think three chauvinistic men in gaudy circus outfits can scare me."
"This coming from the only one here not wearing anything at all?" Kyle joked. "Seriously without that fur you'd be breaking a lot more laws tonight than anyone else."
"Clothing is too restrictive for an agile predator such as myself," Cheetah purred. "And you should know that it's never wise to corner a wild animal. That's when we tend to be at our most deadly."
Her claws extended and scrapped the cement street, but before she could charge something whistled by through the air. It nearly clipped Kyle's shoulder before striking Cheetah in the chest, exploding on contact as she tumbled back.
"Agile like a brick," quipped the ever sarcastic Green Arrow as he fell out of Hawkgirl's arms and in front of the group.
Batman sent Kyle a knowing look, to which he rolled his eyes. Yes, he got it. Attack first, then make a snappy remark.
Both new arrivals were in their typical hero attire, Green Arrow sporting his Robin Hood aesthetics all in iconic green while Hawkgirl had switched things up.
Ever since the failed Thanagarian invasion, she traded in her traditional armor for a tank top and black leggings with her long red hair hanging out now that her mask wasn't constricting it. In her hands was a large three foot mace made of Nth metal that buzzed with cosmic energy.
Kyle sent her a quick wave as she too landed next to the group, standing a little farther away than necessary. Shayera sent him a smile back, but internally it made him sighed. They'd been friends ever since the Justice League had first been formed, meeting after Superman had once again denied him entry.
Hawkgirl had been the one to actually train him in hand to hand combat while Superman had always been more focused on controlling his powers. He even learned some swordsmanship from her, despite his instance that a weapon would just slow him down.
She'd offered the same tutelage when Kara first started out as Supergirl, but Wonder Woman had stepped up surprisingly fast to take over. The two had always had a strong rivalry.
Sadly things had not been going so well for the alien hero.
After betraying the people of earth to the Thanagarians and then subsequently betraying her own race when she learned the truth behind their actions, everyone had been treating her like a pariah.
She'd almost quit the Justice League afterwards, would have too if Kyle hadn't tracked her down at Doctor Fate's inner sanctum and forced her back to hear the other founding members out. Kyle knew they would never truly abandon her, even after everything that had happened.
His insistence had been the deciding factor that got her to stay, though she still kept her distance from most people. It was still nice to see her out and on the job. Shayera always was one to work things out with her fists.
"Well how is the pretty kitty feeling now? It's five on two and I doubt you want to risk any of your nine lives taking us all on."
Hawkgirl's threat did not garner the expected reaction. Kyle saw the cat woman's ears twitch before the tension on her face slackened.
"Then I guess my pride will have to pick up my slack."
Out of nowhere a blue stream of lightning flashed by the group of heroes and struck the goop holding Grundy in place. It melted off him into a rubbery liquid that his immense strength could easily tear through.
Kyle stumbled back, throat clenched which made it harder to breath as the air around them crackled and snapped from the discharge.
Thankfully no one seemed to notice this momentary hiccup as they all followed the lighting trail back to its point of origin.
A young woman in black spandex with blue skin and hair to match stepped out from the Wayne Tech facility shadows. She sauntered forward with a proud smirk across her face, one step ahead another trespasser, a bald man in a tan combat uniform with black straps for holding his various weapons.
Even though Lex Luthor stood at the head of this rag tag group of villains, all Kyle focused on was Livewire. Unconsciously he raised his left hand to his right, tracing the faded burn marking on it that looked like an exploding sun if viewed from the right angle.
"I should have known you were behind this Luthor," Superman growled, his kinder tones dropped for one of actual displeasure. Lex Luthor smirked hearing it. Kyle frowned.
Luthor was one of only two in the universe that could actually get under Superman's skin and he knew it. Hopefully this didn't cause Superman to lose his head.
"Oh Superman, fast as you are, you've always two steps behind me in this chess game we play. We both stand as kings on the board, surrounding ourselves with powerful allies, yet while you rely on brute strength, it is the more cunning player that secures victory."
"Enough talk Lex. What are you really after."
Batman's demand brought the criminal genius' attention to the rest of the Leaguers present. His black eyes landed on Kyle for less than a second before scoffing.
"If you must know, Wayne Tech recently came into possession of a certain meterial that rightfully belongs to me. A little piece of an old friend I've been so eager to reunite with."
As he spoke, Luthor pulled out a large rock from his vest pocket, dangling it in front of the heroes. Even without his super vision, Kyle could see the familiar details etched into the stone that could only mean one thing.
"Braniac," he hissed.
"Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. It looks like one of you is using his brain today. Of course it's the one member of your little club that I had a direct hand in creating. My offer still stands Helios. If you join us, you'll truly be living up to your full potential."
"Yeah maybe, but I kind of prefer to underachieve. Plus I'd have to keep listening to you talk and that just doesn't seem worth it."
"Suit yourself," Luthor brushed off Kyle's jab like it never happened. "It just means you'll be one of the first to fall when my new weapon tears your pathetic Justice League apart."
"You won't have the chance Lex. We're taking you in. All of you."
"Come now Superman. We both know that's not how this goes," Luthor taunted before turning to his allies. "Keep the Justice League at bay while I get ready our little parting gift."
On his command, the other members of the Legion of Doom leapt forward, prompting the heroes to do the same.
Superman reengaged Bizarro, trading equally powerful blows that shook the air while Hawkgirl took on Grundy. The power of her mace disrupted the magic that animated him, making her attacks hit extra hard.
Cheetah had tackled Green Arrow, avoiding the trick arrows he fired until she was right on top of him, held off from ripping his face apart by his bow. He managed to wiggle out another arrow from his quiver and stabbed it into the feline's side, sending a wave of electricity through her. It was enough for him to kick her off and go on the offensive.
Batman zipped passed everyone using his patented grappling hook and dove for Luthor. It didn't work as the former billionaire fired his laser pistol and cut the rope, ending Batman's high flying maneuver.
The caped crusader wasn't done yet though and deployed his cape to glide the remaining distance, delivering a kick to Luthor's sternum.
As the other fights raged on, Kyle found himself dodging a blast from Livewire. The sadistic look on her face grew bolder with each new attempt to turn him into a charred piece of meat.
"What's the matter kid. I know at your age being around pretty girls can be a challenge, so how about you stand still and let me handle the rest."
Kyle didn't waste time with a response and launched himself forward, dodging another two bolt of lightning as he swung at the electric villain, only for her to vanish in a burst of electricity and reappear several feet away.
"How about you take your own advice and let me hit you?" Kyle rose into the air and felt a warm sensation fill his eyes before two red beams shot forth.
Once again, Livewire converted her body into electricity to get out of the way, entering the nearest phoneline and raced through the connecting wires before leaping out and socking Kyle across the jaw with an electrified punch.
The blow sent him tumbling back into the earth, bouncing along the road hard enough to leave an imprint. Air around him smelt of ozone as Livewire landed nearby with a hand raised and humming with building power.
"I don't need to move to finish this. Sorry Helios, but it's lights out."
Thinking fast and acting faster, Kyle dug his hands deep into the pavement and spun around, tearing out large chunks of the road before tossing them at Livewire. This move caught her by surprise and she fired off the pent up blast to blow the rocks to ash.
The dust cloud she created made it easy for Kyle to dash at her and land a solid blow to the gut. The electric woman hunched over as the air was forcefully removed from her lungs, offering the young Kryptonian several more free hits.
He struck her all across the body with a furious combination of punches and kicks, each one costing her ground. Kyle reared back to deliver one final punch when Livewire managed to retaliate.
Thrusting a hand forward, she zapped Kyle directly in the face with a weak burst of electricity. It was still enough to make Kyle recoil as a painful stinging sensation overtook him face. His enhanced senses did him no favors here.
He stumbled back, massaging his tingling skin as best he could while only able listen to Livewire's static laugh, unsure if she always sounded like that or if it was just the ringing in his ears. Kyle tried to move, but his body had seized up on him.
"Helios look out!"
There was a feminine shout and a loud thwack, not that Kyle could see any of it until his vision returned. When it did, he found Hawkgirl standing in front of him with her wings flared out in a protective manner while Livewire lay many yards away in the remains of a parked car.
"Thanks for the save Hawkgirl," he applauded as the feeling returned to his face, only to be met with a stern glare from Shayera's shining green eyes.
"Switch opponents with me. I'll take Livewire. You handle Grundy."
"What?" Kyle asked, shocked by the sudden demand. "I'm doing fine. She got in a lucky shot. No big deal."
"Come on Helios, we both know it's more than that. You're tensing up whenever she so much as releases a spark. I know you have a thing with lightning and she's the cause, but don't try and put on some big show right now."
Kyle opened his mouth, but no words flowed out. He made some random gestures before finally letting out a defeated sigh.
"Fine, whatever. Tag in if you want."
A hand pressed down on his shoulder and Kyle met Shayera's eyes again. The heat in them had lessened and now held a warm, comforting glow.
"We'll talk about it later. Right now you have a zombie to put back in the dirt."
And with that she unfurled her wings and took off into the sky, diving at Livewire just as the downed villain had regained her footing. Sighing once more, Kyle turned his attention to the giant living zombie that had crawled out of the hole Hawkgirl had left him in, looking more angry than hurt.
"Where bird lady go?" He asked groggily before noticing Kyle as he walked closer.
"She had to take care of some more important business, but don't worry. I can keep you entertained."
Kyle cracked his knuckles and neck. The action apparently enraged Grundy and he let loose a slobbery roar before storming forth.
Grundy didn't have the same lightning fast speed of Livewire, making it easy to see his next moves coming. It was even easier given Kyle's Kryptonian speed.
Unlike Superman, Kyle didn't rely on overpowered punches meant to send his opponents flying over the horizon. He totally could, but instead chose to take a more clinical approach with the training Hawkgirl had given him.
Kyle ducked Solomon Grundy's first wide swing, then back stepped to avoid another. This continued as Grundy's attacks became slower and more draining until the giant zombie smashed the ground with both fists in one final display of power.
In retaliation, Kyle jumped up and adjusted himself in the air before swinging his whole body forward to kick the panting Grundy in the lower jaw.
The impact sent his undead enemy sliding across the street, tearing up a good portion of the road as he was buried deeper into it. It didn't look like the villain was down for the count as he struggled to escape the rocks and concrete that had fallen in on him, so Kyle slowly made his approach.
Before he even made it half way, his communicator started to vibrate.
"Hello? J'onn is that you? What's up?" He asked after answering it with a quick click.
"Finally you pick up! I've been calling your cell phone all night and kept being sent to voice mail," the loud and bombastic voice of Kyle's father assaulted his eardrums. It was more damaging than any hit Livewire had landed.
"Dad," he said with less enthusiasm than intended. He must have accidently synced his phone to this communicator before rushing off. "Now's not really a good time. Can we talk later?"
He'd just gotten the question out when Grundy chose then to break free of his restraints, looking for the target of his anger. Between fighting the monster or getting chewed out by his dad, Kyle didn't know which was worse.
"Oh no, not this time mister. You aren't going to keep dodging my calls this time."
"I wasn't avoiding you," Kyle argued as he flew up to get away from the enraged zombie. "I was just… busy tonight."
"I'm sure." His father didn't sound too believing. "I know you're out with your friends having a fun time in another city, but just because you're a couple hundred miles away doesn't mean you can get out of being punished."
"For what?"
"For screwing up your last few deliveries. I know you erased the messages on the restaurants public email, but those customers sent emails to my personal one too."
Shit, thought Kyle, both at having forgotten to check his dad's computer for any evidence of his error and also because Grundy leapt into the air and grabbed him in a crushing bear hug.
"Look, I understand you're busy with school and baseball and all that super hero stuff on the side, but that's no excuse for not following through on your other responsibilities. With all your powers, delivering bowls of noodles should be the easiest thing on your calendar."
"Yeah, totally get it." Kyle's answer was more of a wheezing admission due to lack of oxygen as Grundy squeezed tighter. His father didn't seem to notice. "Won't happen again."
"Well so long as we're clear. Also your friend Mei wanted me to say hi for her… huh… oh yeah and your sister too."
"Hi Kyle!" came the shout of Molly Maize on the other end of the phone.
No longer able to stand it any longer, Kyle fought with all his strength to loosen Grundy's hold, doing so just enough to twist back and connect both feet with the zombie's face. The villain went flying into the sky and out of sight over the bay. Kyle couldn't care less as he took massive gulps of sweet, sweet air.
"What was that?" His father asked, having heard the loud shout that accompanied his move.
"Oh… I'm just… busy with some of that hero stuff right now," Kyle admitted through pained breaths. "Tell them both I say hi and that I'll talk to them both once we've finished up here."
He didn't give his dad a chance to reply, though he did hear Molly say something about turning on the tv before hanging up the call. She probably wanted to see if their fight was on the news. She always loved hearing about his adventures.
Taking a quick look around, it didn't seem like the battle would last much longer.
Grundy was gone, probably at the bottom of the ocean right now, and both Cheetah and Livewire were down. Superman was still busy dealing with Bizarro, leaving a battered Luthor surrounded by Batman, Green Arrow, and Hawkgirl.
Strangely enough, he didn't look worried. In fact, he almost seemed happy at the circumstances.
"It's over Luthor. Hand over the Braniac fragment and stand down," Batman announced leaving no room for argument.
"Or don't and let me take a shot at you. I've got this new boxing glove arrow I've been dying to try."
"Oh you think you've won? Well here's another secret about the game of chess. Sometimes you need to sacrifice some pawns in order to topple an army. While you fools were busy pummeling my associates, you gave me plenty of time to charge up this!"
Luthor pulled an odd looking device out from one of his pockets and pointed it at the group. It kind of looked like a soup thermos if Kyle was being honest. It had to be more important than that though, especially considering how Batman tensed upon seeing it.
"What are you planning to do? Make us a nice lunch?" Green Arrow joked. "Sorry, but I'm more of a chili man."
"Fools. This is the instrument of your destruction," Luthor cried, pressing a button on the canister's side as more parts of it began to light up.
"Ok, I'll bite. What is that?" Hawkgirl asked anyone willing to answer.
"A Pan dimensional Vortex Inducer." And of course Batman had the answer. "It was meant to open a portal to a pocket dimension between realities for faster transportation and storage. Wayne Tech made some early progress on it, but shelved the prototype months ago after it created a black hole that nearly destroyed the city."
"Well it looks like Luthor didn't get the memo."
"Thanks to my modifications, this Vortex Inducer can now create localized black holes under my control. Prepare to be erased from existence, all at the simple push of a button."
Time slowed down as Luthor pointed the canister at the heroes, ready to send them all to oblivion. All three tried to react, but none were fast enough.
A hot fire consumed Kyle's vision and just when Luthor's finger touched the trigger, Kyle fired off a strong blast of his heat vision at the device. The twin lasers struck the weapon, overheating it from the inside out and caused the black hole generator to break apart right in Luthor's hand.
He yelped from the super-heated pain and clutched his right hand as Kyle sauntered forth to join the others.
"Nice shot Helios," Green Arrow clapped and Hawkgirl patted his back.
"Attack first, then witty line, right Bats?" Kyle smirked as Batman continued to glare, the smallest hints of a smile on his lips. "Well alright then. Let's wrap this up so we can help Superman finish Bizaro and I can get back to my team."
Kyle rose into the air and shot towards Luthor with full intent to give him a good scare before knocking the man out cold.
"Helios wait!" He heard Batman shout, unsure why until the world in front of him began to contort. That's when he saw the now broken device begin to spark wildly as the air above it twisted in on itself. It spun faster and faster until a wave of energy erupted out of the perfect circle the airflow had created.
Moving too fast to stop and unable to see, Kyle flew right through the warped space, forcing himself to stop as he looked for anything out of place.
Confusion overwhelmed Kyle as he found nothing physically wrong, but realized that he was also no longer in Metropolis.
Around him were dozens of large green haired trees that made up a never ending forest. It wasn't the city park, nor anywhere familiar in Metropolis since the bright blue sky overhead definitely didn't match the time of day.
Kyle spun around in mid-air, looking for some point of reference.
His search didn't last long as Kyle felt a pulse of energy and turned around to find another small hole hovering in the air, just like the one he'd flown through. It crackled with ambient cosmic energy as he saw Batman, Green Arrow, and Hawkgirl staring back with looks of worry on their faces.
"Guys, what going on?" Kyle shouted as he darted back to the tear in space, only to panic as it started to contort again. The sparks of energy rippling off it were growing fainter by the second.
He heard someone shout his name, but couldn't tell who as the distortions weakened. Kyle propelled himself forward at top speeds, only to be struck back by one final burst of energy before portal as it collapsed in on itself.
Kyle groaned as he dusted himself off, wiping away the dirt and grime from his person. In doing so, he noticed the blast had ripped a hole in his black and silver costume. A great big sigh escaped Kyle's lips as he lay there on the ground.
Slumped in defeat, all he could hear was the sound of his own haggard breaths over the ambient flow of the nearby stream and animals high in the treetops.
Kyle continued to stare at where the portal had been, so many questions and concerns running through his mind. Only two things were certain to him now.
He had no idea where he was and he was all alone.
XXX
And thus the first chapter comes to a close. This is probably a longer chapter than most (at least I think) definitely nowhere near the length of my Other Trainer chapters to be sure.
What did you all think? Did I do a good job matching the characters personalities? How do you feel about Kyle and his relation to the team?
As for how Kyle is a Kryptonian and somehow related to Lex (not biologically), I'll say that he isn't a version of Young Justice's Superboy. All I can say for now is that he was born 100% human. If you really want to know the full story, you'll have to keep reading.
His costume is based on the Recovery suit Superman wears after his battle with Doomsday.
