Chapter 11: Prince Jarvan Lightsheild IV
The Rune Wars tore apart the land of Valoran. It left many destroyed, corrupted, and changed. Rammus was born from this magic. Gangplank grew rich with the chaos. Swain came into Noxian politics. King Jarvin III began peaceful negations with Noxian envoys. And the Institute of War was established.
But not all change is good or bad. Some is both. And this is one example of a good/bad outcome.
Jarvan sat there, waiting for his meal, as he had for the past week.
Nothing changed in this cell. It was dark, with the light coming through the bars in his window.
The door opened, and the guard gave him a bowl of soup with chunks of meat and vegetables in it.
Jarvan sighed, and ate.
Swain dressed himself in black clothes. Exchanging his cane for one of black wood.
LeBlanc followed in suit.
Darius would stay back and watch over Noxus for them.
Swain had also bought Sivir's services for this event, paying her ahead of time with more to come after finishing.
"No, one payment will do,"she had told him. Her greed had fallen since she joined the League.
The three prepared for this memorable night. The night they would free Jarvan IV of Demacia from death row.
Shyvana looked over to the cells where they were holding Jarvan.
Jarvan had been confined into the Institute's dungeons while he awaited execution.
The force was preparing. Teemo had prepred his most potent poisons. nocturne and Fiddlesticks had been let out of their rooms. Renekton and a few others waited in the dungeon. Caitlyn and Vi had gotten one of Piltover's most dangerous criminals, Jinx, to agree to help. Quinn, a Demacian scout, and her eagle Valor had also agreed to help. Lucian also agreed to help, although it was difficult with Thresh around. Trundle even got the ice witch Lissandra to aid them. Zac of Zhan also agreed thanks to a word from Twitch. And finally, a wind master named Yasuo showed up to lend his aid.
The leader among them were Jax and Shyvana. the two would lead them well. Gangplank had his ship ready to depart from there, along with Miss Fortune, as soon as they freed Jarvan and got onto the boats.
The Institute, in order to receive goods, were located along a coastline to trade by sea.
This helped for Gangplank. Granted the Institute is pretty far from the coast, they could make it. And no one questioned the pirate ships anymore.
Shyvana wore full armor today. Her horns and hair showing brightly.
Jax had left his lamppost behind, and replaced it with two swords. He wore a plate chest plate over his cloth.
They turned to see Darius walk in.
"Can we help you?"Shyvana asked.
Darius looked around."I'm here to tell you the swain is moving to free Jarvan. You do not need to worry yourselves."
Everyone turned to Darius, including his brother.
"What do you mean?"Vi asked.
"Swain will handle it, and only four criminals will leave the Institute."
Garen laughed."You think we'll just let Swain handle it alone?"
"Sivir has kept us informed,"Vi told him."We know everything you have planned."
Darius blinked, and turned to his brother."Is it true?"
"I've also told them what I could,"he replied.
"So, you plan on going through with this madness?"Darius asked.
Everyone was quiet.
Katarina stepped forward."If he was guilty, then I wouldn't aid them."She looked up to the Noxian general."We have all fought against each other enough times that we know each other. We are a family."
Cassiopeia nodded."I agree with my sister. In a way, we are a family."
Nasus nodded."My brother is held in the dungeons as well. We will free the champions as well."
"I would be willing to put my life on the for this plan,"Kayle added.
"We do it,"Sion said afterward.
Jinx laughed."Its going to be fun."
"He is my friend, as well as my brother,"Garen finished. He stood next to Katarina.
Darius looked at everyone who was determined.
Vi put a hand on his shoulder. She had taken her gauntlets off."Will you aid us?"
Darius laughed."You are all mad."They were still looked on him."Very well. I guess I'm mad as well."
Jarvan looked as his door opened. The guard had come for the bowl and spoon.
The guard didn't come in.
A regular sized man with a cane stood in the guards place.
Jarvan looked up to see the cowled face of Jericho Swain.
"Prince Jarvan,"he said.
Jarvan laughed a bit."Come to kill me have you?"
"Nope,"he said lifting Jarvan to his feet.
The guard lay dead, bleeding out of a wound at his throat outside the door.
"What are you doing?"Jarvan asked.
"Breaking you out of here,"Swain replied.
Leblanc came up to them."We ready?"she asked.
Swain nodded."You know what to do."
Leblanc nodded and ran off.
"Why are you breaking me out of here?"Jarvan asked.
"Your innocent. I would rather you die in battle at my feet."Swain looked around the corner. No guards.
He wasn't pulling Jarvan along anymore. Jarvan followed.
Sivir ran up, her weapon covered in blood, along with her clothes. She handed Jarvan a spear- his spear.
She nodded, and ran off.
"Where is she going?"he asked.
"Freeing the other champions."Swain looked and saw a door burst open. Guards.
He cast a spell, and his bird appeared over the broken door frame. It let out a loud cry, and the guards were covered in fire. These were minions though, so they didn't stop till the fire finally killed them.
Renekton came running down the hall, blade in hand. He struck down on the minions with hard fought strength.
Coming around the corner was LeBlanc with Brand, who was burning any minion, person, or wodden idtem he could see, with the exception of the champions.
Cho'gath came rumbling down the hall, twice his normal size, indicating he had been eating minions.
Hecarim rushed by him.
Every champion who lived in the dungeons were freed. Jarvan knew what Swain had planned now.
"Escape in the chaos,"Jarvan said.
Swain nodded."Lets go."
Brand was running with them.
They could see the door. But waiting there, were things that they had rarely seen, apart from Elise. A giant undead spider and five smaller, but huge, spiders waited at the exit. Elise lay on the ground, unconscious.
"Is that-"Swain began.
Elise said in a pained voice,"M-master?"
The League had been up to more than Swain had thought.
They heard a clang at the door behind the spider. It turned to the sound.
Sion hacked at the door. Shyvana hit with a fist of fire. Vi and Darius were hitting it as well.
Everyone else were holding back minions.
The door rumbled. Jinx was laughing and she aimed Pow-Pow at the door and fired.
The door was chipping, and burning.
They would not relent, breaking the door away, bit by bit.
Darius' axe was knocked out of his hands, and lodged in the door. Darius pulled it from the door, and with it, a large chunk of wood, still stuck to the blade.
The door had a large crack appear in the wood. The enchantments were breaking apart.
Ryze casted one of his spells, and tore the last enchantment away. He was annoyed.
With the enchantments gone, the door collapsed under its damaged frame.
Behind it was a giant undead spider and five spider corpses. Elise lay unconscious in front of it. Swain's bird was tearing at the spider's eyes, with no results. The spider didn't even notice the birds existence.
Jarvan threw his spear into the spider's face. The spear lodged in there, drawing the spider's attention to him.
"You idiot, run,"Swain told him.
Jarvan's eyes had turned to the battle."Get Elise and run. I'll handle this thing."
Swain was annoyed. But before he could do anything, the door finally broke down.
Sion charged the spider. The spider lost interest in Jarvan then and there, to see a giant rotten corpse barrel down on it.
the spider finally seemed interested. It bit down on Sions right arm.
Sion didn't seem affected at first, as his axe found its place into the spider's skull. But the bite wasn't the problem. Sion's arm had smoke coming from it.
It was burning around the fangs. The spider swung its head to the side, and Sion, separated from his right arm, hit the wall, landing on his knees.
Sion rose, and noticed his arm was gone. He looked to see the spider bite down again, and the arm caught flame.
Sion ran forward, grabbed his axe, and brought down on one of the spider's fangs, braking it from the spider's jaw. The spider turned, and bit down on Sion's chest.
Sion froze as smoke billowed from his chest. Darius sent his axe onto the other fang, and as it went flying, it landed into an approaching minion. Sure it would catch fire, they watched as it yelled in pain.
As Soraka looked, she was reminded of Grandmaster Luwin."So that's what it was."
She looked at Elise. Immediately, knowing she wasn't to blame, at least in Luwin's death.
"Why didn't the minion catch flame?"Darius asked.
"Because its... alive,"Elise said, snapping out of her state.
They nodded, and looked at Sion. His chest was covered in flame.
"I.. do it,"he said with pride."I... free."He closed his eyes.
His body erupted in flames.
Brand showed up, and covered the spider in flames. The spider shrieked as the flames liked its rotten hide.
"We don't have time to lose,"Swain said, seeing his plan had failed."I suppose Gangplank's ships are at the ready?"
"Year har,"he said."They be ready Swain."
Jarvan sighed."You guys are idiots. But that can wait till were safely out of here."
"Then lets go!"Jax shouted, fighting off the new wave.
Ryze, Xerath, Varus and Karthas were fighting off the minions from a distance.
Ashe punched the wall.
Tryndamere was holding her back.
"Why did they force me to leave?"she asked.
"Because you have someone else to worry about."Tryndamere was ignoring the gash on the side of his face.
Ashe's bow had been hidden, so that she didn't head back to the Institute.
Tryndamere would have been the same way, had it not been for Ashe being pregnant.
Ashe finally calmed down."What now?"
"We wait."
They had broken past the minions, and were almost to the ships.
They turned to see something unexpected.
Five giant bears and five big ice trolls.
The bears were easily the same race as Volibear, and the trolls from the Frelijord.
"Traitors,"Trundle rumbled.
Volibear was quiet.
"We can't make it there at this rate,"Ryze stated.
"They will over run us before we even get on board,"Xerath added.
Twitch stopped."You go on, I can handle them."
"Not on your own,"Urgot responded."I'll aid you rat."
"You don't have-"Jarvan began.
"Just go before I finish my failed execution,"he laughed.
They turned, reluctant, and left them.
Twitch fired two bolts at a troll.
Urgot beheaded another.
One of the bears jumped at Twitch, only for Twitch to vanish, and fire three bolts into its back. The bear began to move erratically, unable to handle the poison in its veins.
Urgot killed another. All five bears were now dead or close to death.
Urgot truned to see the head of the trolls club crush his skull.
One troll had evaded their watchful eyes. Urgot's body lay dead again.
Twitch fired a blot into its chest. The troll seemed more resilient to the poison than the others. It turned to Twich.
"A rat?"he laughed. He removed the bolt."Poison will have no effect on me."
Twitch laughed."I won't give up."
"And I won't let Trundle live,"the troll bloated.
The two fought. Only one would walk away.
They were almost free.
Jarvan looked back to see one of the trolls advancing with a hoard of minions and mages coming with him.
"That must mean that both Twitch and Urgot are dead."Ahri looked away annoyed.
Amumu sobbed a bit.
If they hadn't known him better, they would have stopped to help him.
The troll was almost on them.
Amumu stopped.
Ahri looked back."You run along,"he said."I should do something."
Before they could object, he waved his hand, and they were pushed away by a cloud of dust.
"A little child is in my way now?"the troll asked.
Amumu's sad expression was replaced with one of anger."Leave them alone."
The troll was quiet. He smiled, and burst out laughing."Your cute kid. How about you come over peacefully and I make you my squire. A good king needs a squire."
Amumu was even more mad."Why would I?"
"To live, little yordel."
Amumu looked at the troll."Your one of the old troll chiefs, aren't you?"
"Chief of the Frozencleft trolls,"the troll said happily."And soon King of the trolls."
The gears fit into place. The Institute knew what they had planned.
"I can't let you pass,"Amumu said. He stood strait, dust moving his wrappings.
The troll laughed."Shame. Looks like I have to kill you."
Amumu's wrappings flew off of him. They wrapped around his right arm, and tied all four of his limbs together.
Amumu's ashes formed into a tall slender being. Losing the yordel shape and looking more like Xerath. Symbols floated around him. Yellow eyes formed on its new face.
He held a hand up, and five of the mages began clutching they're necks.
The troll's smile was replaced with bloodlust."How fun. Go on minions, I can handle this."
Amumu let some pass, but killed the rest.
The troll broke free, and lifted his club."Lets fight, kid."
The troll charged.
Swain looked behind him."Their gaining."
"Damn, how are they so fast?"Kennen asked.
Gangplank grunted,"Let us not worry, let us be goin'."
Shyvana growled."I can get rid of them."She stopped.
Everyone stopped with her.
"No,"Jarvan said."If anyone should stay-"
"-it be me,"Gangplank finished.
Before anyone could object, Gangplank pulled out his weapons."No objections. I be the one to deal with this."
Miss Fortune stood there."Still trying to be a hero?"
He laughed."Run along child, ye be needed somewhere else."
"I'm the same age as you, you crusty seadog."
"But ye still be a child in yer heart. This be an adult's work."
She was mad."You guys run along, I need a to say few words."
They complied.
"Why are risking this much?"she asked.
He laughed."I don't know Sarah. Maybe I finally found something to fight fer'."
"Gold use to be your price."
"Gold be fine till ye find something new. Be gone child so ye-"
She kissed him on cheek. She cut off his words. Half a minute went by.
"May fortune be with you."She walked away."You idiot,"she said back, before running off.
Gangplank knew what the kiss was for. It was a goodbye, and a plea. He laughed."I don't plan to die today little lady!"
Amumu was doging each swing. Despite being a floating cloud of ash, he did have a weakness. The troll caught on. He didn't let Amumu gain any ground.
"I won't let you pass!"Amumu shouted.
"What a wreck,"he growled."Your usually so sad it would make my own tribe pity you."
"Silence!"Amumu shouted. His anger was getting a hold of him.
The troll dropped his club. He stretched his hand out, and closed his fist.
Amumu froze. The troll pulled his hand out of the ash. In his hand was a small bright yellow shard. He closed fist again. The shard turned to bright yellow dust.
Amumu's body of dust began to be pulled away by a sudden gust of wind.
He looked off into the direction of the ship."Goodbye. Friends."
His eyes dulled and vanished.
The troll bobbed his head. He laughed."Good fight, little... well, you were no child."
Amumu's anger and sadness was replaced with happiness. He laughed with the troll.
The troll quit laughing. He was unsettled. Why would the dead laugh while facing death.
Amumu looked at the troll with a blank face."I still don't like you much. Leave my friends alone, and go back to your tribe."
The troll walked by the body of ash. Amumu was only a thin skeletal shape now.
"I have my job, and my goal. Just stay and die."
Amumu watched as the troll stood still."Your name though, will live on. That is all I can offer a strong opponent like you."
He walked off.
"Your name?"Amumu asked.
The troll stood there."Bor'dil, chief of the Frostcleft trolls of the Frelijord."
The troll wasted no time."Damn, they have gotten to far away!"
He charged, running like mad.
Gangplank was standing there, finishing off the last minion.
His breathing was heavy, making him unable to handle much more.
He turned his back, only to feel the wind pick up. A small cloud of ashes passed by him.
He turned to see a large troll charging his way, club in one hand.
He pointed his gun, and fired. Dead hit right in between the eyes.
The troll's wounds healed faster than the bullet caused them.
Gangplank jumped back.
He wouldn't be able to stop this troll on his own.
The troll stood in front of him."Time to die, annoying little bug."He raised his club.
A hatchet sliced off the troll's arm with the club.
He turned.
Dr. Mundo stood there, hungry as ever.
"Why ye be here Mundo?"Gangplank asked.
"Mundo bored. Mundo not let troll live. Mundo help little man."
The troll charged, even more annoyed. He had reattached his arm.
Mundo, like the idiot he was, tried to stop the club. The hatchet shattered, and Mundo's skull collapsed under the clubs hit.
Gangplank didn't morne. He had no time. He couldn't outrun the troll.
He smiled. He pointed his gun in the air, and fired three consecutive shots in the air.
The crew turned to the three shots.
"He be telling us ta go,"the first mate said.
"What?"Sarah Fortune asked.
"The captain is tellin' us ta leave,"he said again.
Sawin nodded."You knew this mission involved death, right?"
"But neither Mundo or Gangplank, or any of the others have returned."Miss Fortune was to defensive.
Swain sighed."Hold her down!"
Darius and Draven held her back.
"Lets go!"Jarvan shouted.
"We need to wait!"she shouted.
A gun shot was sounded.
She turned. A troll was coming forward, a club in one hand, and Gangplank's gun in the other.
She cried."Just go."
The ship lurched forward.
One last shot sounded, killing on of Gangplank's crew members.
They had escaped. The death count, seven. Seven to many. But it could have been worse.
Everyone leaving the Institute that day would branded a criminal. A couple already were.
What awaited them would be a long and hard life.
Thank you for reading. This chapter was a lot of hard work to finish.
Please enjoy.
