Chapter 23 - 25 Years Later
Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
The heart monitor beeped unceasingly for the time being. There on the hospital bed was Grandpa Hughes. He was in a medically induced coma. Time had given the elderly man a good life. He had married the second time and was now on the way to meet her in the afterlife. Family was gathered around him. The Nurses all gathered at the window as they watched the family. No one could figure how those bikers from 1987 were still as young as they were. They had no proof that it was the same young men, but they had a gut feeling that they were. Around 1990 they and their girl's had all disappeared from the beach side town. The mother, Lucy, had married the cafe owner, Jerome, and they still ran the quaint cafe that many of them frequented for lunches. Sweet Lucy had also ended up having a late life pregnancy and gave the gentle man a son that they named Marcel.
Every now and then the wild biker bunch would come back to town to visit the family and help around the Cafe. Then they'd be off again. It was around 2000 when Edgar frog was able to leave the Asylum He joined his brother, Alan, and the two reopened Frog Comics. They eventually expanded to video games and movies, creating a very profitable business. Edgar continued his therapy and kept Jorge at bay, locked deep within the recesses of his mind. The duo wrote many letters to their sister Cassandra, and she wrote back.
It had been several years since the last time that the gang had visited. The last had been Marcel's 5th birthday and he was twenty now. They knew their brother well and he knew them even though they were not around physically. Phone calls and texts and videos made things so much easier for the family to stay connected. The gang did a lot of travelling of would send back gifts and postcards from every country that they went through. Africa had been a great treasure trove for them. Helping the right people had led to the boys being granted the ability to walk in the sun and the girls had been granted a life as long as their mates. So, if one died the other would quickly follow. It had been a great life now that they did not have to worry about some insane person dogging their every step.
With Father Abraham Van Helsing having been burned at the stake by the guys after he had been turned into a half vampire, he was never able to reenter the cycle of reincarnation. That had been a blessing to them all. Maria had taken several months to fully physically heal from the battery her body had sustained that fateful summer. Her mind had taken longer to heal. With the help of their Siren mother, Maria had made a recovery. It had taken a few years for her mind to heal from the trauma, but she had finally gotten strong enough to overcome her mental scars. Paul being by her side to protect her from any threat had helped her immensely. He loved her with a strength and profoundment that was almost unreal. Each of the couples made that plateau of impossibility.
"I'm sorry but visiting hours are dwindling. I am going to have to ask that many of you go ahead on home. I am sorry." a nurse said as she checked over Grandpa's vitals and charted them.
"Dad?" Sam said coming over to Jerome.
"Yes?" he asked.
"Do you and mom want anything? David and I are going to get some drinks. And the others will go ahead and get us a hotel room." she asked.
Jerome looked at the eternally young youth that had become his family. They were everything a father could ask for. He would never trade them or regret ever opening his arms to them, ever. Lucy patted his hand and he smiled at her. She needed his strength right now more than anything. With a nod he handed the cafe keys over to Sam. She nodded and they left. She would bring a couple bottles of tea back for them and they'll all just bunk in the apartment above the cafe. Then they'll open the cafe for their parents, so they did not lose any sales. Mom and Dad would call if Grandpa passed. They would be here for them, and they planned to stay for a while. Spend time with their folks and brothers. Just be home. They may be The Lost Boys but even they had a home. Santa Carla would always be that home no matter how long they were gone.
AN: AAANNNDDD that's a wrap!
