Few months after Historia-Equinox War, Historia Gensokyo received a challenge from Kokusho, a previously unknown realm within Historia Universe. As it turns out, Gensokyo isn't the only one, since Netherworld, Makai, and Abendrot also received the same challenge. The Union now prepare themselves for a possible conflict/incident. Minor cross-over elements present.

4. Void Barbarossa - Operation Phil

AN: Well... It's almost been four months since I last updated this story, and temporarily put it into hold because of the ongoing conflict and shifting focus to Historia Shoukan. I've decided to put that into hold for now and focus on finishing this story since I feel that Kokusho deserved their own backstory here. For now, let's see how the Union will defend their ground zero from Kokusho's incoming attack. Then, without further ado!

Gensokyo-Kokusho Skirmish Chapter 3
Void Barbarossa (GUF)/Operation Phil (KVL)

Briefing

On September 17th, 2065, GUF managed to secure a ground zero. However, several KVL troops have already made their presence known. It's known that Kokusho is already informed about the invasion beforehand and send a force to greet the Union. The Zen Captain himself have confirmed the presence of three Void Commanders, Enjin Sekigai, Anbu Jusha, and Kizoku Heishi. Based from what little known about them, it can be expected that Sekigai's Armor Division will take lead with Jusha's Shadow Division and Heishi's Lance Division supporting them.

In order to allow the invasion to continue, GUF must repel KVL force that will converge at the ground zero. Currently, the only assets readily used are GUF Fairy Division unit already present and three Air Cavalry units from SDA Lævateinn Brigade, Moriya Military Brigade, and Abendrot Teufel Luftwaffe respectively. Once the attacking force is repelled, the ground assets will reinforce the FOB that is already built at the ground zero. However, it should be obvious that KVL won't let it go for long, so they must be ready for any retaliation assault.

Just like Makai and Abendrot in the past, Kokusho will see Gensokyo's strength. For the Union!

Date: September 17th, 2065
Location: Wormhole Ground Zero, White Desert, Kokusho

"Get ready. We can expect an attack force soon. Shion told me that it will take time for all our ground units to arrive and settle at this base."

Yasei already detected several KVL troops at the direction opposite of GUF FOB. From here, one can see a castle located very far away. If anyone from Nachtjager group saw it, they'll be reminded about the sheer size of their former Empire's castle.

Knowing that they're fighting in Kokusho, KVL's homeworld, GUF starts making an operation plan for the day.

(AN: I'm actually looking at HDW's walk-through of Red Alert 3 when writing this. Expect more like this.)

Phase I (Leningrad)
Repel the KVL forces attacking GUF FOB.

"Report! A 120-man strong company of Guard Armors are coming to our base!"

One of the Combat Pumas linked up with the Nemesis Drone Gunship via battlefield control. Said aircraft found out about the movement from KVL. Without wasting time, the directives has been issued.

"Set all of our air assets to patrol the base and repel the attack force. I'll send 4 of the Miracle Helicopters, Taboo Choppers, and Flusterer Hubschraubers each alongside the Circle Brigade to face the Guard Armors."

Yasei then looks at Sanae, Flandre, Sonia, and Cirno. "What do you think?"

"I have no objection." Sanae says.

"Same here." Flandre states.

"Likewise." Sonia follows.

"Midori-chan will be fine." And Cirno finishes with a grin.

"I'll be the Mission Control this time." Iseya says with finality.

Looking once again at the currently available GUF command roster, Yasei nods, agreeing with his sister's plan.

"Very well. Time to defend our Ground Zero."

Iseya then looks at the green-haired fairy.

"Midori, your Circle Brigade will be in charge of repelling the vanguard unit consisting of 100 Guard Armors. They're known to be very tough, so your unit will be assisted by 4 Miracle Helicopters, 4 Taboo Choppers, and 4 Flusterer Hubschraubers. Once they're repelled, RTB immediately. We can expect an attack force to come later simply by confirming the vanguard unit's movement. Godspeed to you."

Midori is left speechless. She never expected to be given the honor to fire the first shot from Gensokyo to Kokusho. Noticing this, Cirno then approaches her.

"You can do this, Midori-chan." The Fairy General gives her a smile of encouragement.

It works, as she nods resolutely. "Thanks, Cirno-chan."

Later on, Midori notices the aforementioned 120 Guard Armors approaching the FOB.

"Alright, here it is. We're coming in full force. Fire the opening salvo!"

Immediately, the Miracle Helicopters, Taboo Choppers, and Flusterer Hubschraubers fire their missiles. The salvo hits and one fourth of the Guard Armors are wiped out. The fairies belonging to Midori's Circle Brigade then dismount from the Combat Pumas and Assault Helixes, which numbered at 15 and 4 respectively. 30 of the fairies have a Fire Cannon on them, and fires at the same number of Guard Armors, reducing the vanguard unit's strength to half.

Not long after that, all of the Guard Armors are wiped out.

"Objective completed. Returning to the base immediately."

The Circle Brigade then enters the Pumas and Helixes before departing immediately, followed by the attached armed helicopters.

"They've wiped out the vanguard unit. Then again, it should be expected." Anbu remarks upon hearing the demise of the Guard Armors.

"True. I've faced their Elites before, and they easily repelled the forces Master sent alongside me." Enjin replies while being reminded about the battle one week ago.

"So, when should we strike their base?" Kizoku asks a question to the currently present Void Marshal. The Flagbearer has yellow eyes, dirty brown hair and skin. She wears a tri-color medieval armor with said colors being white, red, and gold.

"After Mother replenish the losses. She said that she'll do her part, which means we can expect to fight in full strength on every single battle. Like I said, we're testing their strength, and they're testing our resolve." Onajimi answers.

She then lays out the attack plan.

"I'm sure the Union already aware about the fact that we hold the home-field advantage, so we better use it to the fullest. We'll strike them twice. Sekigai, Jusha, Heishi, your units will be the first attack wave, and Zero Corps will join on the second attack wave once the losses from the first wave replenished. I got the feeling that the Union will have more units on their disposal by the time we launch the second wave. Any question?"

The three Void Commanders shook their heads.

"It's settled. Abyssum irent protegat nos."
"Et lucem aspiciamus."

XXXXXXXXXXX

"Good work, Midori. We can expect Kokusho's attack soon. And this can only mean one thing." Yasei said.

Knowing what it means, Cirno immediately stood up. "Hey, Midori-chan! Let's show these void creatures our strength!"

Eternity is nearly flabbergasted until she realized that it means all present 940 fairies will be mobilized to repel the incoming attack. Sighing in amusement, she then flares her own lifeforce in response. "She's right. And we'll be ready to face the attack head on."

Lily is about to say "Haru desu yo" until she realized that it's now autumn in Gensokyo, much to her chagrin. As of the Three Light Fairies? It's actually pretty simple for them. They will work as a single unit.

"Everyone... Thank you! I'll do my best!"

After Midori's touching moment is over, Iseya then briefs the fairies once again.

"Cirno-san, I already spoke with Sanae-san, Flan-san, and Sonia-san. Seeing the success of the previous battle, they decided to let the Fairy Division take control of the armed helicopters to repel the incoming attack force. It's confirmed that the Guard Armors from before are part of a larger unit. Furthermore, we also confirmed that they will be reinforced with other units we've yet to see, so proceed with caution. There's only one objective here. Defend the base until the attack force is routed or until our ground units arrive. Once again, godspeed to you."

(AN: What? Cirno is already over 60 by 2005. So she's older than Iseya, which explains the -san suffix.)

Cirno looks at her fellow fairy leaders. All of them shows a determined face.

"That's what I like to see. Let's do it, gals!"
"Yeah!"

Sure enough, a large air cavalry force from GUF has been dispatched to meet KVL first attack force. Their respective force compositions are as follows.

Kizoku couldn't believe that the vanguard unit have been defeated by fairies of all things! Enjin and Anbu however see this as vindication of Onajimi's words. The former then flies to the middle area, fully expecting that Cirno would do the same.

True to her expectations, the Fairy General obliges. One can see that the playful demeanor from before has been replaced with an air of seriousness.

Both Enjin and Cirno then exchanges a greeting.

"So you're Cirno, Hourai Fairy of Gensokyo... My name is Enjin Sekigai, and we both know why we're here. Let us determine who will be the victor here."
"Likewise. The victor won't be determined until it's over."

Cirno then unsheathes her Watermelon Bar while Enjin assumes her boxing stance. Responding to it, 550 fairies dismounted from their transports.

Both lead commanders then charge at each other, signaling the start of the battle.

(AN: Yep, it's Advent Cirno in action.)

Back inside Nemesis Drone Gunship, the remaining Fighters are observing the battle via battlefield control.

"Be careful. It's confirmed that the Guard Armors have ranged attacks as well." Iseya warned the Fairy Division.

After few minutes, Meimu makes her first comment. "The fairies fought well. Being one of the earliest forces in Sengoku Gensokyo sure gave them a lot of battle experience."

"My thoughts exactly. I never expected that they'd be this strong. Yukari definitely have the right idea of creating that war game, and as result, the Third Great War ends in our victory." Ayaka remarks.

Once again, Iseya gave directives to the Fairy Division. "Void Soldiers inbound! Get some fairies to intercept them!"

In response to that, Lily and Midori lead their brigades to face Kizoku's Lance Division.

"Kh...! These fairies reacted quickly..." Kizoku mutters under her breath.

Reimu comments on Kizoku's frustration. "Now you got what I feel when facing them back during the early years of Sengoku Gensokyo."

"Ain't that the truth. Their numbers are massive." Yasei adds.

While this is happening, Iseya is alarmed upon seeing the battlefield control. She then gave another directive.

"One of Kokusho units disappeared! It's very likely that they have stealth capabilities. And some of our ground units made it in. I'm very sure that the disappeared unit plans to disrupt the convoy. Any free units, move in to protect the convoy ASAP."

After hearing the directive, Sunny grins. "It's our cue. Star, try to detect any unusual movements. We're moving in."

The Sunlight Brigade, Starlight Brigade and Moonlight Brigade then leave the formation, and just in time too, as both KVL Armor Division and Lance Division are recuperating from their losses.

Cirno managed to block a punch from Enjin's floating gauntlets with her Watermelon Bar. It's as if the action symbolizes the fairies' stalwart defense in the face of the void legion.

"Well fought, fairies of Gensokyo. Truce? One of our divisions aren't in formation."
"Same here. On our case, it's three brigades. Truce."

Both of them unexpectedly made a temporary truce until the Light Brigades and Shadow Division return to their respective forces.

XXXXXXXXXXX

Anbu detected several gaps located further behind GUF FOB, and she decided to check it out for herself.

"Shadow Division, submerge. We'll check out what the Union have in their disposal for the invasion."

Immediately, Shadow Division turn themselves into silhouettes on the ground and converges upon the direction of the gaps. Unknown to them, Star detected their movement.

"There! Moving silhouettes on the ground!" Star points at the ground below the Light Brigades.

"I see it. Good one, Star. Move out. We'll surprise them once they arrive." Sunny shows a mischievous grin.

"I agree with you. Let's do this." Luna nods in agreement, seeing the tactical advantage they possess.

At the gaps location, some of GUF ground units made it inside. Marisa is the one who enters first alongside her Elite Corps. She then detected the Light Brigades approaching the gaps, and grins.

"Those three... I'm very sure they're planning to prank Kokusho forces." She shook her head in amusement and calls out to the Light Fairies.

"Hey, you three! You're planning to prank the force trying to disrupt the convoy, right?"

Sunny, Star, and Luna are perplexed upon seeing that Marisa noticed them. However, they smiles and decided to reply her. "That's right! Wanna join?"

"Sure! That sounds fun. Count me in." Marisa answers before then giving a directive to her Corps. "Okay, make a formation behind the Light Brigades and wait until the disrupt force arrived. I'll make sure the convoy can proceed without a hitch."

Kirisame Elite Corps fairies salutes their leader and proceed to do so. And sure enough, once Anbu and the Shadow Division emerge from the ground, they're shocked to see that the Light Brigades already arrived first, not to mention that their number seemingly increased.

Once Anbu looks closer however, she noticed that Marisa looks at her and smirks. She promptly calls a withdrawal.

"Return to the formation immediately. One of the Vanguards are present. We better tell Marshal about this."

Marisa looks at the withdrawing Shadow Division and made her remark. "So that's how they move, huh... Good to know. You three can go now. The base needs you more."

Wordlessly, the Light Fairies nods and motions the Light Brigades to return to Fairy Division formation. Noticing their success, Iseya congratulates them.

"Thank you for protecting the convoy. With this, the invasion can proceed as planned. However, this isn't time to throw a party yet. The recuperating Kokusho units are almost back at full strength. Return to the formation at once and prepare to resume the battle."

Back with the convoy, Marisa gave a similar praise to her Corps.

"Good job out there. I'm sure the base will appreciate the ground reinforcements we brought with us. Go back to the formation and move out."

XXXXXXXXXXX

"I see... The fact that she is present should be clear indication of a huge force moving in." Onajimi ponders about the implications from Anbu's report.

"Do we know who she is?" Kizoku asks.

"Marisa Kirisame, one of GUF Vanguards and the creator of Magicannon Firearms. We're already briefed about the Union's leaders yesterday, and she's listed as one of them." Anbu answers the Flagbearer's question.

"... It's almost hard to believe that she's still a human after knowing what she's capable of from the battle a week ago." Enjin remarks.

"Indeed. But then again, the Alliance's military powerhouse, UN Military, are comprised of humans. And their Grand Marshal is present as well." Onajimi fell silent before giving a directive.

"The losses should've been replaced by now. I originally want to admonish Jusha for detaching her division from the formation, but thanks to that, we now know that the Union forces are coming. Finish the first attack wave and withdraw once all of our units are eliminated. You can replace your own losses right, Jusha?"

"True, Marshal Onajimi. I'm fully aware of the risks when I issued the order." Anbu nods and proceeds to triple the size of her division's number. (240 - 720)

"Very well. Resume the battle once you're ready."

The three Void Commanders nod and began consolidating their units.

XXXXXXXXXXX

Cirno is relieved to see that the Light Fairies returned without any losses. And just in time too, since she noticed that KVL numbers have increased.

"The three of you must've seen what the Shadow Division is capable of." A voice came out of nowhere. Cirno looks around to find out where it came from, but to no avail.

"Let's see how you fare against our reinvigorated first attack wave."

And with that, KVL forces began attacking GUF Fairy Division once more. Not too soon, Iseya gives a new directive.

"Good news for you, Cirno-san. Onii-chan decided to unleash his Raven Drone Copters to help you repel the attack. Furthermore, the Guard Armors changed form into stronger Opposite Armors. The timing couldn't have been better. The armed helicopters will join force with the Drone Copters to attack the Opposites, so your burdens are lessened. Your objective now is to defeat the combined force of Shadow and Lance Division. Godspeed to you. For the Union."

This piece of good news raised the fairies' morale. Furthermore, it also shows that Yasei is willing to play a part in the battle should it be required. Cirno then contacts the Zen Captain.

"Thanks for the reinforcement, Captain. We'll hold their infantries while you deal with their Armors."

She received a reply immediately. "You can count on us, General. Sanae, Flan, Sonia, let's do this! For the Union!"

All 68 Raven Drone Copters then move in to engage the Opposite Armors, followed by Miracle Helicopters, Taboo Choppers, and Flusterer Hubschraubers.

As if that wasn't enough, Yasei also decided to send in Arioch, the Luna Automaton.

"The Fairy Division General have been disengaged from the combat with KVL Armor Division Commander, thus leaving her free to harass the fairies. Her codename is Red Armor. I want you to face her and prevent her from approaching any of the fairies. They're already preoccupied with Shadow Division, so if you can stall her for a long time, I'm sure they will appreciate it. I'm counting on you, Arioch."

Without a word, Arioch disembarks from the Nemesis Drone Gunship. She then flies and proceeds to attack Enjin, catching the Void Brigadier off-guard.

"Wha-?! Another one?! No... She's stronger." Enjin mutters after she blocks Arioch's spear attack with her floating sabatons. Currently, she's in her Opposite Armor form.

While the battle rages on, Cirno noticed that the Opposite Armor's number have dwindled steadily. "Great! Just a little longer and we will win!"

Iseya can't help but agree with the Fairy General's statement, seeing that Enjin is stalled by Arioch. Cirno herself decided to fight Anbu while Eternity fights Kizoku.

"Indeed. Just hold on for a little longer, and we'll win this battle, either by direct or indirect means."

Sure enough, GUF forces managed to repel the first attack wave from KVL. How do we know that?

"All the Opposites have been eliminated. Arioch, disengage immediately."
"Acknowledged."

Seeing Arioch disengaged from the fight with Enjin, Cirno and Eternity did the same against their respective opponents, Anbu and Kizoku.

Enjin recognized the gesture, and knew that the Union won this battle.

"The victory is yours. However, this is just the start of our skirmish. Expect to see more of us." She applauds GUF force while warning them that KVL is just warming up.

"All units, withdraw immediately. Prepare for the second wave."

If this kind of scenario happened during early years of Sengoku Gensokyo (2006 to 2009), Gensokyo forces will surely be caught off-guard by this proclamation. However, ever since the Reunification, they decided to take it at face value. Reimu then decided to speak.

"A heavy unit already, and there will be more..."

Iseya then applauds all who participates in the FOB defense.

"The base still stands and some of Union forces made it in. Good work. Use the time to consolidate our strength. We need to hold out against the second attack wave. Phase Leningrad successful."

Intermission

After making sure that all of the currently available assets are fully accounted for, Iseya then approaches Marisa.

"Marisa-san, Kokusho's second attack wave is coming. This will be their retaliation following the Union's victory in Phase Leningrad."

The human magician is initially confused about that word (Leningrad) until she remembers the usage of codenames. "Oh. The previous battle, right? I got you. So, what do you need?"

Iseya then told Marisa the main objective of the next phase. "Magus Trio will play a crucial role in defending this base against the retaliation attack. We're counting on you."

The Star Magician grins. "Leave it to us."

Phase II (Brighton)
Defend the FOB and hold out against the imminent retaliation.

"Alice, a company of Void Primates have come to harass the base!"

Maybell reports to Alice about the incoming harasser unit from KVL. The one currently in charge of FOB defense is Magus Trio, and that means Marisa is the one who leads the defense. Knowing this, the doll master immediately forwards the report.

"The unit's total number is 120. So, who will deal with them?" Alice asks.

Marisa merely grins because she knew the real meaning of that question. "I'll go. You two just sit and watch the base. I'll take 80 fairies and 20 golems with me." She then leaves the FOB alongside the selected troops.

Reimu can only sigh seeing the eagerness of her best friend. She then contacts Marisa via the battlefield control.

(AN: Hold on, Reimu is the EVA for this phase?!)

"Do you read me, Marisa? Good. You already got the objective. Eliminate the Void Primates harassing the base, and then prepare for the incoming attack. Armored units are temporarily unavailable until this base is fully secured."

"Copy that, Reimu. Leave it to me."

It only took a short time for Marisa and her force to eliminate the harassing Void Primates. She then promptly returns to the FOB to discuss the unit deployments alongside Alice and Patchouli.

It just so happened that a huge KVL force is spotted at the same spot as the first attack wave. Reimu decided to tell the Magus Trio ahead of the time.

"Several units from Kokusho has been spotted at the exact location of first attack wave. Their numbers are far larger compared to the previous one. You have 12 minutes to prepare."

Patchouli then comments about the currently available units under the Trio's disposal.

"Armors are out of question for now, and my Arthropods can't be deployed yet. We better make do with the units that are currently combat-ready (fairies, golems, and dolls)."

Before they can depart however, Reimu gave them an unexpected news.

"It seems Amaterasu likes you, Marisa. Hotaru told me that she can lend 40 of her Bullet Curtains for your fairies to garrison. It's up to you where to place the Bullet Curtains. Double check to ensure that they got full coverage of the base. You better make sure this counts."

And there's another one.

"Oh, and Sanae said she'll help rejuvenate both your and Patchouli's golems, Marisa. If you ask me how it's possible at all, I'd chalk that as one of her miracles and leave it at that. She's already a bonafide goddess by this point."

Of course, Reimu already knew that what both Marisa and Patchouli refer as golems are in fact crude clones created by using DNA samples extracted from hairs of various Fighters up until 2021. That would explain her confidence of Sanae's healing miracles working on them.

XXXXXXXXXXX

First Assault

The preparation minutes have passed, and the Magus Trio are now waiting. And sure enough, 360 Void Soldiers charge forward as KVL's opening move. They're accompanied by 480 Void Primates.

"Here it comes! First stage!" Marisa shouts as she deploys 50 golems with 10 Bullet Curtains and 200 fairies to the frontline. Alice follows suit with 200 French Dolls and 80 Orléans Dolls. Lastly, Patchouli enters the battle with 100 golems to complete the number.

Once Kokusho forces are in range, Gensokyo forces immediately open fire, forcing the former to spread out in order to reduce the hit chance from the latter. Both sides fight ferociously, but it's clear that Gensokyo forces are winning. Seeing this, Kokusho decided to send an additional 120 Void Primates, 240 Void Medic Troopers, 180 Void Flame Troopers and 450 Void Shock Troopers.

"Wha-?!" That managed to caught both Reimu and Iseya off-guard, even if for a short time.

"Alright, bring it!" Marisa, on the other hand, grins. And in return, Magus Trio decided to step up their attacks. After the relentless assault, they managed to repel the first stage of Kokusho's second attack wave.

All of a sudden, the unknown voice speaks again.

"Greetings, Gensokyo Union Fighters. I am Onajimi no Rei, Marshal of Kokusho Void Legion. Your valiant defense just now forced us to step up our game. We will strike again soon. Prepare yourselves."

Immediately after Onajimi's announcement, Reimu then tells Marisa about the next step.

"We managed to repel the first stage. However, the Void Marshal is right. We can expect another stage in 12 minutes. Marisa, you may use your Hakkero Drones now."

"Sweet! Good thing I brought them with me just in case like this." With a grin, Marisa immediately launches 40 Hakkero Drones in the air.

Sanae then interjects from Nemesis Drone Gunship. "Um, Marisa-san? I can see Kokusho preparing for the next stage from the battlefield control."

"I suppose it's time for us to bring the heavy weapons, don't you think?" Alice remarks.

"Yes, it is. Prepare the Fire Cannons. We can expect their Armors in the next stage." Reimu answers.

"Much appreciated." Patchouli then calls in the Alpha Koakuma, Lilith. "Call your sisters, Lilith. Tell them to bring the cannons here."

With a nod, Lilith then calls 50 of her fellow Koakumas. Alice responds by sending in 50 Holland Dolls to the frontline.

Another 12 minutes passed with replenishing the losses and reinforcing the FOB garrison.

Second Assault

"That was the last 12 minutes we give you. Attack!"

At Onajimi's signal, the second stage is launched, with 125 Guard Armors as the vanguard unit, followed by 480 Void Primates, 450 Void Flame Troopers and 450 Void Shock Troopers.

"Armors inbound!" Maybell said as she saw the vanguard unit moves forward.

Just like before, Magus Trio forces wait until KVL forces are in range. This time, however, the Guard Armors stop midway, letting Void Shock Troopers and Void Primates take lead, while they accompany the Flame Troopers.

"So they learned, huh... Well, too bad for them, it won't work!" Marisa then directs the Hakkero Drones to fire at the Guard Armors' position, inflicting heavy damage on their ranks.

Additionally, the Fire Cannons proved to be effective on limiting Kokusho forces' movements, allowing Gensokyo defenders to repel the second stage.

However, GUF can only rest for a short time...

Third Assault

... since KVL launched the third stage after only 6 minutes.

300 Void Knights, 600 Void Primates, 125 Guard Armors, 270 Void Frost Troopers, and 720 Void Shadows made up the force composition for this stage.

Having seen what the Void Shadows can do personally, Marisa says something to Alice. "Hey, Alice. Set up those Seeker Wires of yours. I'm pretty sure they plan to ambush our backline."

Alice nods, acknowledging thev possibility of such tactic. "Got it, Marisa. Maybell, if you will?"

The living doll salutes and immediately directs several dolls under her Legion to make Seeker Wires formation.

If one were to describe Marisa prior to First Sengoku Gensokyo Tournament, one can say that she will use direct methods to get what she wants. After that, she became known as one of Gensokyo's brilliant tactician/strategist for her role in helping Reimu became the First Champion.

Sure enough, the Seeker Wires formation Marisa suggested allows Magus Trio to defend their backline from the Void Shadows.

Soon after, the third stage has been repelled. Onajimi then speaks again, both to herself and to GUF forces.

"My word... This is it. We're going all-in."

"All-in...?" Reimu said in confusion.

"Oh no..." Sanae is shocked, realizing what it means. "They're going to do a full-scale attack!"

"Well, it's a good thing we decided to keep our armors in reserve then." Someone proclaimed.

Reimu and Sanae looks at the battlefield control, and saw the rest of Scarlet Devil Army, Moriya Military Brigade, and Abendrot Teufel Reichswehr made it in.

"Damn... You sly Scarlets..." Sonia shook her head in amusement, realizing the reason Flandre is included as part of the Advance Force.

"So you realized it? Good for you. But that's beside the point. I'm going to give Pache some help." Remilia grins in return.

Patchouli sighs in relief. "Glad to see you here, Remi. Did you bring the Arthropods I requested?"

"Why, of course! Here you go. Also, you might want some fast vehicles just in case." At Remilia's word, the Arachnid Strikers and Scarlet Tanks joined the frontline.

"Alright, then! I'm going to deploy the Spark Tanks now." Marisa decides to join in the armor fest and sends the Spark Tanks to reinforce the FOB garrison.

Exasperated, Reimu give her thoughts. "You all... Oh, well. Get whatever units you need and prepare for their final attack stage. Sanae, your brigade will help Magus Trio forces this time. Repel this, and we can start our offense."

"Got it, Reimu-san." With that, Sanae leaves the Nemesis Drone Gunship to join the frontline.

The grace period given this time is about 18 minutes.

"... They sure got a lot of vehicles with them." Anbu remarks upon seeing the amount of tanks that GUF deployed.

"That, is the reason why we decided to create our own mechanical force. Sekigai already saw one of them in action personally." Onajimi says.

"Don't forget their air force. Our first attack wave got repelled because of it." Kizoku gives her comment.

"To the point that I'm forced to reveal the Opposite Armors earlier." Enjin laments about said fact.

Onajimi then claps her hands. "What's done is done. All we can do now is to strike with everything we got. Sekigai, get your Opposite Armors airborne to hold off the Union's air force. Jusha, Heishi, link up your divisions with my corps. We'll finish this attack wave."

As usual, the Void Commanders recite their motto.

"Abyssum irent protegat nos."
"Et lucem aspiciamus."

With that, KVL prepare themselves for the final stage.

The last engagement begins as GUF forces saw the Opposite Armors flying towards their direction, followed by a brigade strong KVL troops.

Yasei saw the movement and he takes an action. "Well, if that's how they want to play it, then let's give them one. All air units, engage the Opposite Armors! For the Union!"

Immediately, the armed helicopters began moving in to face the Opposite Armors. This time, they're assisted by the Fairy Division. In a way, KVL managed to deprive GUF of their aerial support. However, it also means they can't use the Armors to assist the attack force.

Thanks to their experiences in Sengoku Gensokyo tournaments, the Union forces managed to hold their ground despite Kokusho's superior numbers.

By this point, the result should be obvious. (AN: If you read the Prologue, this is what KVL counted on.)

"I applaud you, forces of the Union. Mother is pleased seeing that your strength is the real deal. However, this is only the beginning. All units, Operation Phil is finished."

All KVL units present then stop attacking and make an orderly withdrawal after Onajimi's message.

"... After defeating Makai twice, I know for sure that Kokusho isn't bluffing. I'm just glad this is over."

Reimu sighs, letting Iseya utters "Phase Brighton successful."

Intermission

With no further attacks from KVL, GUF managed to establish a huge base capable of accommodating all forces that participating in the invasion of Kokusho.

Now, the Union is planning their first attack, with both Yasei and Reimu are currently finalizing the plan.

"Okay, so what do you have in mind?" The Champion asks.

"Remember Misty Lake?" The Captain replies.

It didn't take long for Reimu to realize what Yasei plans to do. "That? Well... I have no issue with it, but who will go?"

Instead of answering, Yasei messages Vaati via an Augma. "Hey, Vaati. Come here with the Puella Gunners. I'll tell Lucy and Shion to do the same with SAO Veterans and Twilight Frontier respectively. We'll go Misty Lake on them."

Reimu facepalms once the message is sent. "I just knew that you'd do that..."

What she hear next made her flinch. "I said we, didn't I?"

Phase III (Vorkuta)
Push forward and secure a checkpoint.

"This is quite a large group you gathered, Yasei... Still, I say you make the right call here. Look around."

The one who became the Mission Control this time is none other than Yukari.

"From the recon we obtained, the Legion isn't kidding when they say they're ready for us. Probe their defenses by defeating one of their unit groups."

Someone then made an unrelated comment.

"Enlightened, they say... Hypocrites, I call them. I'm actually glad I decided to come down to Gensokyo now."

Everyone looks at Tenshi. "What? You guys already beat me for who knows how many times. Just let me vent my frustration regarding the dark truth of my family, will you?"

(AN: She refers to the VS Mode for Touhou 10.5 Hisouten, 12.3 Hisoutensoku, and 15.5 Hyouibana in case you're curious.)

Yukari actually sweatdrops when she hear this. "Um... Just proceed with the mission, okay? We can discuss the past later." She's secretly glad that Tenshi decided to oppose her own family because of their bad reputation once she found out how they became celestials in the first place.

At any rate, this is the groups that both Yasei and Reimu assembled.

Not long after, they detected the unit group Yukari mentioned. Namely, 480 Void Soldiers and 270 Void Frost Troopers.

"There they are. The Frost Troopers can slow us down. Good think we have them here." Vaati points to Mami and Homura. "I can't believe Yukari actually managed to weaponize gacha of all things to rescue the entire Puella Magi roster!"

"Don't forget the affected cities as well." The aforementioned Sage replies. "I had to make an effort to prevent the Incubators from infecting Gensokyo."

"Good call out there, Yukari-san. I'm pretty sure they will experience worse PTSD if we didn't do that." Iseya remarks.

"Okay, that's enough for now. Lucy, Iseya, Udonge, Tomoe, Homura, on me. We'll take care of the Frost Troopers while the rest will handle the Soldiers." Yasei finally speaks.

With choruses of affirmation, they split up and take care of the designated targets. In just a few minutes, they managed to eliminate the unit group.

"Keep going. Another unit group is detected near your current location. Yasei, Reimu, you may your signature Spell Cards now."

Yasei and Reimu look at each other, then nod in unison.

Hell's Fist "Drill Inferno"! / Divine Spirit "Fantasy Seal"!

They instantly decimated the next unit group (A whooping 1800 Void Shadows and 270 Void Frost Troopers!), sparing the rest the trouble of having to deal with the Shadows' annoying gimmick.

(AN: There's a very good reason why there are two versions of Fantasy Seal (derivatives doesn't count) that Reimu used in Touhou canon. This is why. As of Yasei's Drill Inferno, think of it as stronger fire version of Iku's Dragon Fish Drill.)

Even Yukari is speechless, despite already expecting that outcome.

"... Good job, you two. Flash news, Makai decided to join."

"Pretty much. We do need a good staging ground before we can proceed further." Reimu states the reason.

"I'm afraid we have to move now. They detected us!" Sanae exclaims, seeing a huge incoming KVL force.

"Fuck...! That's a huge force! Reimu, Wild-kun, you guys have to spam those Spell Cards!" Lucy retorts, and starts shooting.

Izayoi grins instead. "You do you, Thesda. But I'm pretty sure their Spell Cards need to be recharged. Until they can fire it again, I'm going to have some fun with them!" He then proceeds to jump straight to the fray.

"Oh, bollocks... Sakamaki is correct. We have to hold them off for now!" Vaati follows up by using the elemental magic she learned from Patchouli.

"Well... You heard them." Reimu looks at Shinki.

The Makai Goddess merely smiles. "Glad we arrived on time, then."

Without wasting time, both Gensokyo and Makai groups join the Outsiders in holding off the huge number of Kokusho troops consisting of 1890 Void Frost Troopers, 1080 Void Flame Troopers, 360 Void Shadows, 300 Void Knights and 240 Void Soldiers.

"The hell?! They decided to strike with their Fighters?!" Kizoku exclaims in shock.

"That, Heishi, is the reason why we were sent packing during the battle at Misty Lake." Enjin crosses her hands, having seen the Union's strike force prowess first hand.

Anbu analyzes the battle by using her Shadow Division that are currently taking part there. "I see... This would explain why they only have small forces compared to UNM."

Nearby, Onajimi was being called by Kyomu. "Mother, are you sure? ... I see. The Makai Goddess herself decided to join. Understood. I'll inform them about this."

She then approaches the Void Commanders with a serious tone.

"Mother said that she'll send 2000 of her Abyss Corps troops. In order to do so however, we must move to a new position. And don't worry about the lost troops. Jusha can replace her own, while Mother will replace the losses we sustained here."

Another Drill Inferno and Fantasy Seal later, Onajimi knew that the position is compromised.

"That's the cue. Withdraw to the designated position. We will make our last stand there before executing the next Operation plan."

Nodding to each other, Enjin leaves the theater while Anbu and Kizoku follows the Void Marshal.

The reason for this? Kleine apparently thought it's funny to invoke Cue the Flying Pigs trope by transforming into one! Flandre seems to also have a hand in this, if her giggles are anything to go by. Looks like it's enough for their respective benefactors (Sonia and Remilia) to do the aforementioned unlikely coalition, just to watch them!

Yasei then asks. "So... Who's leading?"

Cue a sigh from Sonia. "The Scarlets. They do have more experience compared to us, so I'll leave it to them."

Yukari interrupts before things get out of hand.

"While I do like to watch the drama between your houses, this time, you need to join forces. The Legion has assembled a last stand force, complete with a unit belonging to-"

And she in turn got interrupted by Onajimi. "That is correct, Sage Leader Yukari Yakumo."

All four groups in the strike force then looks at the source of the voice. Onajimi appears in person this time.

"Mother decided to send some of her troops. Let us decide who will claim this region."

"Be careful. The Legion's Abyss Corps is comprised of the best troops they can offer. They're truly the Void Goddess' top force." Yukari warns.

"And we'll be seeing more of them in the coming battles. For now, we need to beat them and secure this checkpoint. Get the Spell Cards ready." Reimu said as she prepares her Fantasy Seal.

"Oh no, you don't!" Onajimi immediately charges at Yasei and Reimu, forcing them to engage her.

Marisa watched the ensuing fight, and remarks. "Welp, we're on our own. No matter." She then whips out her Mini-Hakkero and powers it up. "Ready, Lucy?"

Lucy smirks and powers up her shotgun. "On your count, Marisa."

Both of them then takes off and fires their Spell Cards at the large concentration of KVL troops. It's fortunate that the Opposite Armors aren't there. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to do this.

Shotgun "Remington Break"! / Love Sign "Master Spark"!

(AN: You can google Master Spark yourself. As of Remington Break, the shot spreads and each of the spreads move towards the nearest target.)

Back on the ground, Flandre helps the rest of the Fighters dealing with the Shadows by tracking their movements via her Living Radar. Because there are so many of them, she split herself into five.

Taboo "Five of a Kind"! (AN: Stronger version of Four of a Kind from Touhou fangame Frantically Forbidden Fruit. In this case, Five supplanted Four.)

"Hey, Volucris! Go up and deal with their Shadow Master, will you?" Leaena jerks her head at Anbu's location.

"On it." Volucris expands her mechanical wings and flies straight to the Void Summoner. She looks like what you'd expect from a Greek: brown eyes, long black hair, and olive skin.

"Wha-?!" This managed to caught Anbu off-guard, since she has to dodge Volucris, who came at her with a freaking chainsaw!

"Kh... " Volucris stops midway, feeling that someone hits her. She saw that Anbu's fists are covered in a dark sphere.

"Surprised? I'm not your typical Summoner in Medieval Fantasy. Call it modernization caused by your Union."

As if to prove that claim, Anbu punches the air with her covered fists, and the dark spheres merge to form a wormhole. She then charges at Volucris with a number of Void Shadows that came from said wormhole.

"Never expect that I'd find myself a rival here. Gotta thank Leaena for this." The Daedalic Devil responds by revving her chainsaw and charges back.

(AN: I noticed an irony here. The actual Daedalus hates the fact that anyone could rival him.)

Meanwhile, back at Castle of Emptiness, Kyomu witnessed the battle via a wormhole.

"First, Sekigai is forced to reveal her Opposite Armors early. Then Onajimi herself enters the field. And now that the Makai Goddess is in the battlefield, I decided to introcude the Abyss Corps." She muses. "I wonder... Aren't we intertwining two different things into one here?"

Kyomu heard the phrases 'Leningrad', 'Brighton', and 'Vorkuta' from GUF side. On her side, only one phrase can be heard, 'Phil'.

"The opening level is about to end. I'll give it to you, GUF. I'll be waiting here when you all reach my castle."

She then closes the wormhole, just in time as Lucy and Marisa fire another Remington Break and Master Spark.

"That was close, indeed."

Reimu managed to disorient Onajimi long enough for her and Yasei to fire another Fantasy Seal and Drill Inferno. The four Spell Cards hits the battlefield, and it results in all but named characters wiped out.

"..." Onajimi fell silent, realizing that she failed to hold Yasei and Reimu long enough in addition of not taking into account the possibility of another Spell Cards like what Lucy and Marisa shows.

"Mother and I salute you. This region is yours. She'll wait for you in her castle once you push us far enough. Jusha, Heishi, we'll start the next operation."

Anbu and Kizoku nods. They then follows Onajimi as she leaves the vicinity.

Yukari made her remark. "Excellent work. The checkpoint is secured. Now we can start our offense."

Yasei nudges Iseya's shoulder, making the latter sigh in amused manner. She then says: "Phase Vorkuta successful."

Thus, Operation Void Barbarossa is concluded.

AN: Yes, you read that right, folks. I combined Red Alert 3 vanilla campaigns (names for GUF Operation Phases) and Kingdom Hearts series Coliseum Cups (names for KVL Operations) into one. Of course this won't be a Touhou fic without Spell Cards. And as you can see, when not bound by the rules, Spell Card attacks are decisive strikes that can cripple the opposing army by reducing a large number of their troops.

And on the topic of danmaku, I'd say they make a damn great suppression fire when unbound by the rules and keeping the bullet redundancy. However, let's face it. If it's an actual life-or-death situation, the first rule is to make every shot counts. This is why my rendition of Gensokyo readily adopts the Magicannon firearms created by Marisa in 2011 following Star Patchouli Conflict. That conflict also saw extensive use of robots from Patchouli.

Regarding an RTS topic, the troops itself. I've already established that many factions in Gensokyo have their own forces as result of Yukari creating Sengoku Gensokyo in 2006. And Reimu states that the Magus Trio (Marisa, Alice and Patchouli) are special cases, because of the fact that they have forces that can rival said factions. Patchouli in particular shows the growth of her personal force in Tasofro Patchouli Saga. Namely MegaMari (early prototype machines), PatchCon (golems that Marisa uses as well), and DynaMarisa 3D (Arthropod robots and mechas).

Oh, and I want to credit Touhou und Panzer Projekt by Pompmaker1 for the designs of Gensokyo tanks besides that of Shrine Tank, Flower Tank (both canon) and Shrine Flower Tank (my original design by tracing Overlord Tank from Command and Conquer Generals). Panzer vor, Pompmaker! I salute you.
