JENNIE
Rosé comes back with a bang like always.
She pulls in this big black bag with wheels filled with gifts for the kids. She had styled her hair into messy pontytail her make up immaculately done and it makes me wonder where the hell she had been coming from.
I knew my friend was coming over early today and decided to work from home. I had left my phone in my room where I was sure ten of Lisa's unread messages sat because we had been talking and arguing about what genre of books were better. I had a thing for dystopian, because let's face it, we are going to head there soon and then before you know it someone will offer up their child as tribute or some shit.
I counter arguments were lengthy and maybe it was because her favorite genres to read were romance and fantasy.
"You keep doing this."
"They're the only kids I ever want to have, so let me spoil them." Rosé huffed. She drops the hands of the bags and pulled her in for another hug. Though we had been talking ever since she went on this second book tour, having her here and loud, was better.
When we pull apart, she peppers kisses all over my face.
"So how's the ex wife now recurring dating partner?" She asked as she pulls me over to the sofa. We take our seat, She placing her legs on my lap.
"It's going great. Should it be going this great?" I asked her, staring at her with wide eyes.
"I'm not sure. You two are different you know? Everyone has their love story but yours and Lisa... I don't even know the right adjective to describe your relationship."
"Rosé..."
"Though she makes me a little bit angry, you two have always been good together." She admits and I chuckles. She looked like her words had taken her time to let out.
"I want us to also see a therapist until we get to that point. The point where we are us, where we have trust, where we are on our own feet."
"That's a smart idea." She said. "Do you have anyone in mind?"
"I'm thinking of asking Vanessa. She might know someone."
"Why not her? She already knows you two and already knows your history, she could just help on out from there."
"I'm not sure. I'll talk to her and Lisa and I'll let you know." I says. "Give me a minute." I quickly gets off the chair and quickly went to my room to grab my phone.
I had four texts from Lisa.
Fr[Lis]
I might have arranged for flowers to be delivered got you It's Daffodils.
Fr[Lis]
They smelt so amazing that I just couldn't stop myself.
Fr[Lis]
Okay I might have added a single sunflower in the bouquet too.
Fr[Lis]
How do you feel about lunch tomorrow? I can come get you from work?
I giggles as I read the texts, my fingers tapping the screen as I types out my reply as I walked slowly back to the livingroom so I doesn't bump into anything.
To[Lis]
I love the flowers.
To[Lis]
How about I take you out for lunch instead?.
I adds as I walks over to Rosé who was still seated on the couch, this time with a small cup of yogurt with her.
"Is it the bes?" She asked and I nods. She lifts her legs and drop them back onto my lap when I sits.
"I'm hungry."
"We can order pizza. The hot peeps passion." Rosé starts.
"And potato wedges." I adds. She hums her agreement as I pulls up the the food panda app. It doesn't take me much time to place an order for the two of us.
It was a bit past one and the kids get home by three, three thirty tops. We still had time. Rosé tells me about all the shenanigans she had been up to while on tour, she tells me that her manager had to be the strongest person she knew.
"I might have met someone too."
This gets my attention, I sits up a little straighter. "And who is this person?"
"I can't say but we are pretty low key and want to stay that way for a while." She says and to my amazement, she was blushing. I could count on both hands how many times I has ever seen Rosé blush. This was serious.
I don't press. I knows my best friend. She was going to tell me sooner or later.
"So how did you two meet?"
"We were staying in the same hotel but some people caught wind of her hotel room and the next thing I know, she's sneaking into my room through the window. She thought it was empty."
"Rosé... what if she was a killer or a ca-"
"Don't think that would have been a problem since I kinda knocked her out with a choke hold." She says and I almost scream. What kind of friend does I even have? She could have gotten in trouble.
"She didn't sue?"
"Of course not. Once I saw her face I knew who she was, had a back up plan to blackmail her if she decides to sue."
"What was your back up plan?"
"I sleep naked." She said with a shrug and I chuckles. "I'd just said she snuck into my room, Incase's my privacy and sue."
Devious. She always has and always would be.
I makes sure to leave work early so I could go over to Lisa's place of work. I hadn't been here in years. Walking down the hallway felt weird, evening the receptionist, Sheldon, gave me a big smile as well as a wave.
I takes the elevator, tapping the button for Lisa's floor. Once the elevator doors pulled open, I steps out onto the hallway, heading right for the woman who was stationed beside The door with Lisa's name on it.
"Hi. I'm here to see Li-"
The woman stared at me with wide eyes. "JENNIE" She cheers and I takes a step back because I was pretty sure I has never met this woman before. She walks around the table and pulls me in for a hug.
"Oh my god. I thought she was joking when she told me. Oh my god." She screams. She must have been loud because the door to Lisa's door open and she herself steps out.
I looked at her over the woman's shoulder.
"Eugene get off her."
Oh, so this was Eugene. The excited woman pulls away, her cheeks warm as she looked between me and Lisa. She was practically bouncing on her feet. She makes her way over to me, hand slipping around my waist, pressing a kiss to my temple.
I think Eugene was close to passing out. She had a gleeful look on her face and looked like she was holding her breath.
"Love, this is Eugen, Eugene this is-"
"Love!" Eugene cuts in. She looked like she wanted to hug me again. I doesn't think I has met someone as cheerful and happy as her. She seemed great. "Jennie, it's wonderful to meet you. I've heard about you for two years, I have seen so many pictures of you. You are Lisa's favorite topic."
My cheeks heat up. I looks over to Lisa who looked very proud of herself, complete with a smirk and everything.
"Lisa..."
"What? I keep a picture of us on my desk, she saw it and began asking questions." Lisa said and it piqued my curiosity. I wanted to know what picture Lisa had on her table.
"It's your wedding picture and this cute little throwback one." Eugene teases.
"Can I see it?" I asked Lisa who nods.
"Okay. I'll leave you kids to it." Eugene says. She blows us a kiss and literally skipped away. I wants to ask Lisa where she found her but instead just made my way to the door, pushing it open.
The office was arranged differently.
"I had a bit of time and redecorated." She explained. The walls were white, the curtains by the large windows were black with abstract white shapes on it. Lisa's large table at the top in a raised platform, a seating areas designed with leather chairs, two doors and a large fridge in the corner.
I marches over to the table and takes the frame sitting there. It was a conjoined frame with two pictures. The first picture was that of our wedding day, we were both staring at each other, Lisa's hand cupping my face.
The other picture was that of we were age of sixteen. Both of us standing beside each other, young and laughing.
"Lisa..." my hand was shaking.
Lisa takes the frame from me and places it back in the table. I spun around, looking right up at Lisa, eyes searching.
"You... I..."
Lisa swoops in, hands settling on my waist as she closes the distance between us. Our lips pressed together, the two of us moving in sync, I am pressing close.
