Ginny groaned, lifting her head from the pillow. It was too early. She knew it was too early because the room was still darkish. The sun hadn't even started rising and yet, here she was, awake. For a moment, she wondered why. Why had she woken up? Her stomach rumbled slightly and she felt her cheeks flushing. Right, she'd woken up because she'd been dreaming of a sandwich and was now hungry.
She glanced to her right, to where Sirius was burrowed under the blankets, snoring softly. She smiled watching him for a moment. He was blissfully asleep, dreaming about something, she had no idea what. Part of her wanted to wake him, tell him her news, but Sirius was always grumpy if someone woke him up.
It took two cups of coffee and something resembling food to make him agreeable. Ginny sighed, swinging her legs over the side of the large bed. She had never dreamed she'd fall in love with Sirius, never dreamed they'd be living in Grimmauld Place now that the war was over, now that their lives were completely normal and stable.
"Red? Something wrong?" Sirius' mumbled, wiping the sleep from his eyes. Ginny looked at him over her shoulder.
"No, everything's fine. Did I wake you?" she asked, already knowing the answer.
"Nah, dream got boring," Sirius replied, yawning. He stretched, wrapping an arm around Ginny and pulling her back into the bed next to him.
"What kind of dream gets boring?" she asked, laying her head on his naked chest.
"The kind where we live our lives as boring adults. You know, going to work mindlessly doing boring adult things."
"I can think of several adult things that aren't boring," Ginny commented, running a hand over his chest.
"Such as?" Sirius teased. Ginny debated giving him the answer he wanted, but instead an idea popped into her head.
"Drinking isn't boring," she replied, knowing Sirius would take the bait and fall into the exact conversation she wanted to have.
"Besides that, Red," he whispered, pressing his lips against hers slightly.
"Hmm, Harry says being a parent isn't boring, that kids provide hours of entertainment?"
"Kids? An interesting thought, probably right. I remember this one time I managed to convince Harry to say 'Padfoot' whenever he was asked a question. He didn't say it quite right, but it still got the message across. Lily hexed my ears to ring for a week," Sirius laughed.
'What did James think?"
"It was hilarious. Maybe I can do the same with Harry's kids, get them to say how awesome their Uncle Padfoot is?" Sirius suggested. Ginny nodded, a smile spreading across her face.
"What about our own, would you ever want kids of our own?" she asked, hoping he'd give her the answer she wanted, no, needed to hear.
"Little Padfoots running around, causing chaos and mayhem? Who wouldn't want that?" Sirius laughed. Even though it was dark in the room, Ginny knew his eyes were sparkling with joy at the thought.
"Good, although, we could have a daughter," she pointed out.
"A mini you then, Red? Now that would be something to see! Wait... how did we get on this topic anyway?"
"Talking about adult things that are fun," Ginny answered. "And there's kind of something I need to talk to you about."
Sirius sat up, pulling Ginny with him. With a wave of his wand, the lights turned themselves on. Ginny looked at him, trying not to be nervous.
"Red?"
"I... it's too soon if we'll have a little Red or Padfoot, but we're going to have a baby," she whispered, giving Sirius a nervous smile. What if had all been talk? What if he didn't really want a child?
"A baby. We're going to have our own baby," Sirius repeated, staring at Ginny. She nodded slowly. She couldn't tell if he was excited by the news or not.
"Yes," she whispered, nearly holding her breath waiting for Sirius to show her how he felt about this. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest and she tried to remember the last time she'd felt this tense. It probably had been the day she'd asked Sirius to marry her.
"Red! This is amazing! Our own baby! How long have you known? Why didn't you tell me sooner, I would have gone with you to the healer," Sirius asked. Ginny felt the tension release and a giddiness filled her chest.
"I only started suspecting a few days ago. And I didn't want you to get your hopes up if it was nothing. I mean, it could have been nothing, you know, it's not like we can set a calendar by my monthlies," she pointed out. Sirius laughed, pulling Ginny into a tight hug.
"We're going to be parents, this is... amazing!" he howled. "Wait until I tell Remus and Harry and-"
"You've said that already and yes, it is amazing. And how about we not tell anyone just yet? I mean, keep it our little secret for like a month or so? You know, just in case something goes wrong?" Ginny suggested.
"Nothing is going to go wrong, but alright, our little secret then," he smiled, giving Ginny a kiss and then kissing her abdomen. "Our little secret," he repeated, smiling larger than he had in a long time.
