She woke to the sound of water running and she was momentarily confused.
She'd gone to bed alone right?
She rolled over, trying to place the source of the disturbance, before ultimately deciding that sleeping was a much better use of her time.
Shuffling her pillows onto the cold side, she closed her eyes and slipped into a dreamless sleep…the kind that reminded her of being trapped inside herself.
The kind that scared her.
Waking with tears on her cheeks and anxiety flooding through her veins, she felt herself being pulled into warmth and she allowed herself to fall into the embrace.
Lips brushed her shoulder as a soft voice whispered. She felt calmer than she had when she'd woken up and snuggled deeper into the arms holding her, reveling in the feel of the slightly calloused thumb brushing against her hip.
She felt her companion mumble against her shoulder blade and managed to get out 'Mmmm… .'
Her companion shifted up slightly higher so that they could rest their head on her shoulder. She wriggled as she felt their jaw moving against the blade, tickling her as the soft voice said 'I've been waiting all night for this. Missed you… .'
She smiled softly, snuggling closer to her companion before responding
'Missed you too. How was your trip?'
She felt her companion snort against her shoulder and respond 'Short. Where's the cat by the way?'
The cat chose that moment to kneed against their now entwined legs and her companion shook her head, muttering 'I must be tired… .'
She yawned sleepily in response, snuggling in as close as she could get when she felt a gentle kiss being pressed against the pulse point in her neck.
'Goodnight Elizabeth. I love you.'
She smiled, content, before responding.
'Goodnight Samantha. I love you too.'
