A/N: One more chapter to go. Thanks so much for reading!
Chapter 29
Elliot was surprised that Olivia hadn't called yet. While it made him nervous, he didn't want to interrupt anything in the process that she and Calvin were going through. He hadn't been able to wish them luck in the way he wanted to, given he was at the precinct.
"Hey, you heard from Baby Girl?" Fin interrupted his thoughts.
"No and it's a little…"
"Disconcerting?" John filled in for Elliot.
"Yes," the detective admitted.
"It is for all of us and we're not even finding out what is going on with the custody decision now," Kenny spoke up. He was right. Nothing was going to be finalized until the judge met with the families in about a month.
"Everyone done with their D-D-fives?" Captain Cragen asked as he exited his office.
"Yup. This one is ready to send to the proper channels," John was glad to be done with this one. He wanted to go home and take a shower.
"Good. Fin, Munch, go check on poor Sheldon Small. They let him back into his apartment, but he needs to know that he won't have to testify or anything. Remind him that he can contact victim services if he needs help relocating or talking to a therapist. When you're done, go home," Don ordered. The two detectives nodded and grabbed their things before heading out of the bullpen.
"Kenny, go home," was the next order. Kenny made no arguments. That just left Elliot.
"My office," Don gave him a look. Elliot said nothing but left his seat and followed the Captain.
"Close the door and have a seat," Don said. Again, Elliot obeyed, not sure where this was going.
"You heard anything from Liv?" He asked.
"No. You?" Elliot raised an eyebrow.
"No and that's not exactly why I called you in. I want you to be honest with me. You and Liv… you're more than just partners, aren't you?" Don wanted to know.
"Cap…" Elliot started.
"This is just between you, me, and the bookcase," the Captain said. Elliot let out a breath.
"Yeah, me and Liv," he said. Don nodded.
"I don't think you need to know how I feel about this. You're my two best detectives and you both have been through a lot. I will deny I know anything of this, if One PP comes knocking," he said.
"I know. We didn't want to get you into this, but we wanted to come clean…" Elliot trailed off.
"It's a weird situation, but I have a feeling that she might need your help with this custody thing. She wants to be here for the team and she wants to be there for Calvin. You know that that doesn't always mix. While no one here expects her to not jump for Calvin every time, if she needs to be in court, when he needs to be heading to Vermont…" Don pointed out.
"That thought crossed our minds. I'm still her emergency contact, so Calvin's will also be mine," the detective explained.
"Good. Now go home and let us know what you heard in the morning," the Captain smiled.
"Thanks Cap," Elliot smiled back at him.
"Thank me by not breaking her heart. We both know what will happen if that happens," Don gave him a look.
"I'd take myself out before I do that," Elliot promised. Don nodded with a smirk.
"Good night, Elliot," he said.
"Night Cap," with that the conversation ended and Elliot headed for the door. He made it all the way out to the car before his phone rang and he immediately picked it up.
