Chapter 14: The Arranged Marriage

Stephanie and Pierre got home and noticed Ranger waiting outside their house for them to arrive. Pierre parked the SUV, and the two of them got out. "Ranger, what can I do for you?" Stephanie asked him.

"I came to talk some sense into your husband," Ranger replied. Ranger wasn't pleased to lose his second in command.

"Ranger, there is nothing to discuss. I need to do this. You don't understand that being a firefighter is in my blood. I am sick of hunting down the bad guys. I need a break from Rangeman," Tank explained.

All of a sudden, Stephanie threw up on Ranger's boots. Pierre looked at her, trying not to smile. "Here, little one," Tank passed her the keys to the house. Stephanie unlocked the door and walked into her home. "Ranger, you still have me for two weeks. After that, good luck. I will and still can own part of Rangeman, right?" Tank asked.

"Always, Tank," Ranger said and then left. Pierre walked into the house and saw Stephanie pacing in the living room.

"Okay, the baby does not like Ranger right now," Stephanie said, smiling.

"Good baby," Pierre said. He walked up to his wife and wrapped his arms around her. "It's probably the stress that causes your reaction. Let's get some lunch," Pierre whispered in her ear.

"Sounds great," Stephanie said. They went into the kitchen and grabbed a couple of sandwiches when Frank called. "Hey, Dad. What is going on?"

"The police want to question me regarding your mother's death. I have Albert meeting me at the station. I just wanted to let you know what was going on," Frank finished saying.

Pierre noticed that his wife's face turned pale white. "Dad, do you need anything?"

"No, Baby. I was at the lodge. Edna's collaborated on my story, so this should be relatively easy," Frank said and then was gone.

"Little one?" Pierre asked gently.

"The police are going to question my dad for the shooting of my mom," Stephanie said. Pierre put his sandwich down, walked around the kitchen table, and wrapped his arms around his wife.

Stephanie started to cry again in Pierre's arms. While Stephanie was crying, her phone rang. Pierre looked at the caller ID. "Valerie, it is not a good time," Pierre said over the phone.

"We are going to have a family dinner and would love it if you two could join us too. Five pm, tonight," Valerie said and then was gone.

"Valerie invited us for dinner. Would you like to go?" Pierre asked.

"I don't know, Pierre. I would like to think about it for a while," Stephanie told him.
