Chapter 19 The Arranged Marriage
A couple of hours later, Stephanie woke up a couple of hours later to an empty bed. "Pierre," she called out.
"In the living room," Tank replied. Stephanie entered the living room to find her husband with the fire chief. "Hey, Little one. Do you remember Chief Franklin?"
"Yeah, good to see you again," Stephanie told him. "How are you?"
"Okay, I was talking to your husband. There is a position open for an Arson investigator. I suggested it to your husband," Franklin told her, explaining his reason for visiting.
"I would not be putting out fires, but I would be investigating them, and how they started. It is a better pay grade than a firefighter, and I would be in less danger. I can do that while I am still working at Rangeman," Pierre explained.
"Sounds great. The sooner we get a house, the better. I don't trust Ranger right now. Regarding my earlier question about a puppy for the baby, have you given it any thought?" Stephanie asked.
Just then, she heard the sound of a dog barking. "Woof." Stephanie turned her head and saw a dalmatian puppy.
"Her name is Spots," Franklin said.
"The guys at the station bought her for us," Pierre told his wife.
Spots came up to Stephanie and sat down in front of her, with her tail banging on the floor. Stephanie patted the dog's head.
"My interview is tomorrow morning. I hope I can get it," Pierre said out loud. Franklin got up from the chair in the kitchen and left Sherman's apartment.
"I know you don't know this little one, but after my dad was injured on the job, he became an arson investigator. If I get the job, then we can start a new life away from Rangeman and Ranger, maybe. But Ranger is definitely acting weird, and we need to find out why," Pierre told her. "Now I have to go to work. I will see you later," Pierre kissed his wife on the lips and left his apartment after giving Spots a quick pat.
When Pierre got to his office, he saw Ranger waiting for him outside his office. "Ranger, what can I do for you?" Pierre asked him.
"I need to talk to you," Ranger said, Pierre went into his office, and Ranger followed. Ranger came in and shut the door. "Tank, I know who is torched your house, and who bombed your SUV. Your father put Randel Thompson away for arson a long time ago, and I have it on good authority that he is out for revenge. That is why I have been acting so strange. I have been undercover with Randel Thompson. My goal is to put him away. Please, take care of Babe, and that baby of yours." Ranger then walked out of Pierre's office, leaving Pierre shaking his head.
A few hours later, Pierre walked back into his apartment. He saw Stephanie sitting on the couch with Spots.
Spots lifted her head and wagged her tail when she saw Pierre. Pierre sat down beside Stephanie and watched some tv with his wife.
